Sabi ng voters sa 2013 VE shootout, the 1080p Sammy plasma looked sharper than the 4K Sony LED:

we have the following 4K tvs in our market:
the LG 84LM9600 (649T sale price, 849T regular price at SnS/ Anson's)
the Sony KD-84X9000 (1.2M at Anson's)
I'd rather get a projector than either of these two. ::) :P

Street price of the new 65 inch Sony 4K is about JPY 770,000 or USD7.7K. - and it's freaking amazing :) Of course bababa pa yon after actual release next month.
-
After staring at the new 65 and 55 inch 4K models of Sony for about an hour, I find it difficult to imagine how any 1080p plasma can possibly appear sharper. Even the new VT60 looked "dot-matrixed" in comparison. Also, these smaller Sony 4Ks appear even sharper than their 85 incher big brother.
Oh well, sobrang advanced pa rin ang TV tech compared to available contents and especially compared to TV broadcast.

Ive watched a few movies remastered in 4K
Ghostbusters: Definitely shows more details than the previous release
Glory: Same as above
Titanic: Very impressive for a 15 year old movie
Amazing Spider-Man: Freaking nice indeed!
There's something to look forward to 4K HD.

to clarify... remasterd in 4k but in 1080p?
-
Ganon na nga - downscaled to 1080p. There is no commercial player for native 4K yet. Pero maganda pagka-remaster ng Titanic and Spiderman. I suppose kung mas bago yung movie, mas impressive lalabas.
Ang nakita ko palang na native 4K movie is yung demo trailer ng Sony ng After Earth - pero pang store lang yon.
Interesting thing I noticed, parang mas maliit pa yung resulting filesize ng 4K remaster compared to previous releases.

baka sa audio or extra features nacompromise kaya smaller file size?
yung existing blu ray ba ng titanic, isn't that already remastered from 4k? pati yata yung ghostbusters (original blu ray release) 4k remastered na. Would you know if there's a significant improvement?
maganda nang pagplanuhan tong 4k na 'to. :/ hahaha

does 4k remastered bluray can run on 1080p bluray player w/a 1080p hdtv? just wondering about this...

4k remastered = 1080p pa din
4k = 4k. hahaha
yan na lang siguro para mas simple?
so pag may "remastered", as of now, 1080p lang yan. Wala pang native 4k source sa physical medium so lahat ng may 4k for now are at max Full hd/1080p pa lang. (except for trailers/ads/short clips...someone correct me na lang if i'm wrong. kainis na sony kasi yan e)
-
kinda confused about this, if the 4k remastered bluray is still a 1080p content then how come the remastered disc is much more sharper than a conventional 1080p? arrggh...????
-
Because the previous master/releases sucked - as in the case of Ghostbusters and Glory. Hehehe.
Pero bakit ang ganda ng dating ng Spiderman?
I think Titanic's Cameron decided to remaster in 4K before he even released his 1st BD. Correct me if Im wrong.

possible naman na maimprove pa yung existing 1080p with another 1080p. Pwedeng 2k scan lang pala yung ginamit sa unang release tapos sa next release 4k scan na ginamit. (wait, pwede nga ba na may 2k scan at 4k scan of both films? haha)
OR (ito yung sure ako), panget talaga pagkaremaster nung initial release tulad ng Gladiator at Patton. After its second release, napaganda na at sharper na yung images. ganun siguro. Kumbaga mas inayos pa nila lalo.
So for now, hold off na lang muna ako sa 4k remastered. hintay na lang ng actual 4k. :D hehe
-
may i remind you guys, there are still no 4k blu-rays. If you but the sony 84 inch tv you get a small media streamer with already preloaded 4k movies. You will have to download the 4k movies once more are available.
H.265 is the new streaming codec the streaming industry is trying to perfect, i think its still a year off.
The Sony mastered 4k is technically a 2k print, they also increase the color space.

Just dropped by the nearest Best Buy yesterday, wala pa daw silang natatanggap na unit for display,
mga mid-June pa daw, I'll try the other branches pag napasyal ako, most likely duon sa isang Best Buy na mas malaki ay meron na yan,...

^sa japan pa yata yun. hehe

Sa Tokyo - Bic Camera, Labi, Yodobashi - all big CE stores. Bumaba na nga ng konti ang street prices in Japan and actual delivery is about to commence (pre-order pa when I saw last month). Ayaw ng anak ko kasi masyadong malakas ang SOE effect when they played Skyfall on the 65 inch 4K model - parang CG ang dating. Pero ang ganda talaga ng linaw kung talagang linaw ang habol mo.

Only those who have tested it can affirm but I've read high praises for the clarity and detail of 4k materials on 4k tvs.
Pero kung 1080p on a 4k tv... yan ang magandang tanong kung maganda ba upscaling. Hehe

My son and I went back to Best Buy just to look around,
I met a Filipino salesman on the floor, and he was very much accommodating
sa lahat ng inquiry and requests namin, so we requested na mag-play ng 1080 feed
sa 4K panel na nakadisplay, it was the Sony 55" 4K unit, and right beside it was a Samsung 55"
LED 7450, colors were really vibrant on the 4K panel, very much fluid ang motion, considering
na upscaled signal pa lang yun sa 4K panel, it was really impressive, but according to the guy,
hindi gaano mabii ang 4K dahil sa mahal nga daw ng unit, most consumers choose the LEDs ng
Samsung, LG and Sharp, dahil sa price difference ay halos 80" and above na daw ang mabibili
sa price ng 4K, expect it to go down later this year, once sumunod daw ang ibang manufacturers
sa pag-release ng mga bagong units nila,...

seen this unit yesterday at SM Cebu a 55 inch. version would cost you 400k hehehehe...but the 70 inch. quatron 1080p really caught my attention and mind you not only me it looks likes the whole folks stare on that sharp's 70 inch. LED panel. So it means 4k at 55 inch. does not command attention unless the 4k panel is at least >70 inch. well that would be another ball game. lol...

H.265 is the new streaming codec the streaming industry is trying to perfect, i think its still a year off.
Check out libde265 (https://github.com/strukturag/libde265), an open source implementation of HEVC (H.265) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Video_Coding):
ibde265 - open h.265 codec implementation
==========================================
libde265 is an open source implementation of the h.265 video codec.
It is written from scratch in plain C for simplicity and efficiency.
Its simple API makes it easy to integrate it into other software.
Currently, libde265 only decodes intra frames, inter-frame decoding
is under construction. Encoding is planned to be added afterwards.
The library comes with two example programs:
- dec265, a simple player for raw h.265 bitstreams.
It serves nicely as an example program how to use libde265.
- sherlock265, a Qt-based video player with the additional capability
to overlay some graphical representations of the h.265
bitstream (like CU-trees, intra-prediction modes).
Building
========
libde265 has no dependencies on other libraries, but both example programs
require that you install the libvideogfx library, which you can get from
http://www.dirk-farin.net/software/libvideogfx/index.html
or
http://sourceforge.net/p/libvideogfx/code/260/tree/trunk/libvideogfx/
You can disable building of the example programs by running ./configure with
--disable-dec265 Do not dec265 decoder program.
--disable-sherlock265 Do not build sherlock265 visual inspection program.
Additional logging information can be turned on and off using these ./configure flags:
--enable-log-error turn on logging at error level (default=yes)
--enable-log-info turn on logging at info level (default=no)
--enable-log-trace turn on logging at trace level (default=no)

the SONY 55 inch 4K was amazing...grabe ang linaw talaga if you're playing a 4K content!
not recommended for people with bad eyes...sayang lang! hahaha!
maybe the best compromise is a 70inch or 84inch na 4K....assuming there's already an abundance of 4K content...crap! that means I have to update my whole library as well! nyeta!

I was thinking the same thing,...
^-^
-
I would be spending thousands of Dollars and time on current-gen downloadable contents first before this 4K thingy becomes mainstream...so not a bother at all. Besides, I don't like watching replays/catalogues and time is always insufficient for watching totally new releases. Anyhow, encoders should be able to figure out a way to compress native 4K contents efficiently.

100GB discs point to 4K Blu-ray
An announcement by Singulus Technologies, a maker of
replication machines that produce Blu-ray discs, points
toward a new standard for 4K Blu-ray.
by David Katzmaier
September 12, 2013 6:41 AM PDT
A physical media standard for next-generation 4K video now looks closer than ever.
A German optical disc replication equipment maker by the name of Singulus Technologies has announced details on a new machine, the Bluline III, capable of manufacturing triple-layer Blu-ray discs that can store up to 100GB.
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57602583-221/100gb-discs-point-to-4k-blu-ray/ (http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57602583-221/100gb-discs-point-to-4k-blu-ray/)
-
Oh my is this compatible with the present BD players?
-
Just curious if 4K displays is it worth considering 4K feature NMTs to pair. I've read of 4K NMT players, are there materials already out there and is it now the new standard? or would it do 1080p to 4K upscaling , and if at all, will they matter for our mostly 1080p
-
Oh my is this compatible with the present BD players?
No, definitely not.
The Bluline III can produce 100Gb triple layer BDs. That's about it. No specs or standards for any 4K BD yet. All the press release is saying is that the machine has the potential for making 4K discs.
UHDTV will use HDMI 2.0 (up from today's HDMI 1.4), Rec 2020 (up from today's Rec 709), and H.265 HEVC (up from today's H.264 AVC). None of today's BD players are capable of those specs.

65E810U 20,999rmb
1rmb = around 7php
madami po dun units... na wala sa sa atin kahit sa us.. specially on their sharp tvs... they have sharp tvs.. with built in windows.. nakalagay pa sticker powered by lenovo... with stainless frame.. hinanap ko po sa amazon.. wala po... sleekier looking than the 70 80 in sharps we see sa amazon... slimmer bezels din...
madami pa ibang brand na 4k.. di ko lang nakunan ng pictures

@AC
nakita mo ba yung 50" 4K ng TCL dyan? yun ang inaabangan ko na maging available sa Pinas. ;)
-
i think may display po ng TCL but.. kung tama alala ko. wala sila display na malaki puros 20s to 30s and no 4k. :D

This Ultra HD F9000 Series 9 just arrived last night from Samsung. I should have like this TV if not for the price.

noon pinagtatalunan 720p vs 1080p.. if its noticable.. hehe
1080p vs 4k.. it will even be harder to notice.. specially at smaller sizes.. unless gawing... monitor..
-
Question lang guys, will a 4K movie file play as it should in a Non-Ultra HD TV? What will be the effect? will i feel that im really watching a 4K movie or it's like watching a 1080p movie on a 1080p panel (not ultra HD)?
-
saw a demo unit of 4K UHD Samsung sa mall. kahit nasa kabilang store ako (across the demo unit, siguro around 10-15meters away) ang linaw pa rin.
-
Bilin ko na sana kaya lang out of stock.

lol malamang malinaw kasi malayo. kahit manuod ka ng dvd sa malayo malinaw. you would not be able to distinguish the difference ng 1080p sa 4k kung ganun kalayo unless you have superman eyes. hehe.

Saw the 4K Viera Lineup yesterday,...
WOW,..
That's all I can say,...

I guess it will be downscaled sa TV resolution mo sir

I tried some 4K samplers before and the tv would only display "unsupported".

what will be the benifits for having 4K TV with 1080p, 1080i data source/broadcast ?
-
the terrabyte optical disc (should be used for 4k) , matuloy kaya sa 2016?
-

There is a perceived sharpness and increase in detail as long as your display has a very good upscaler/upconverter. Sony does a very nice job in doing that. If you want to quantify it, I would say a 50% better picture than 1080p. Can't wait for REAL 4k content with my upcoming media player!
-
but heard 4k was bad for gaming? tama? at least the upscaled part introduces bad gaming lag..
tama ba? or was i misinformed?

I read some posts here in pdvd from members who bought the LG UB850T. Dun sa mga nakabili, is the PQ really superior compared to FHD, considering na 1080 and mga material na gamit? Nakakaenganyo kasi ang 69.9K na price sa SM. Napansin ko lang when playing the same material with an FHD na katabi sa display, parang mas fine ang picture ng UHD, but that is under store conditions. How about sa home condition?
THe reason I'm asking is that I'm torn between getting the 49UB850T or a 55" or 60" FHD 3D unit. Viewing distance is about 2-3 meters.
-
lg 49UB850T - wondering what's the price tag on this presently.

P69,990 cash at SM.
-
Thanks!
Im sure this will be a bit cheaper dito sa mga suking pdvd resllers natin. ;)
-
I agree na mas mura sa member-sellers. Yun lang, I would have to spend also for the freight to Davao, and baka may concerns sa warranty/repairs kung sakaling magkadiperensya ang unit. Sana may mas mura dito compared to SM Davao.

Cheapest I seen was 55k (OLX sellers - I believe Anson's Makati)
-
The seller from olx gave me the price of 70k for the 55 inch TCL UHD TV with skype camera. Really tempting. Add 10k daw and I get a 40 inch TCL smart tv.
Anyone bought the UHD TV from TCL yet? Wanted to know how it fares with input lag when playing games.

Can you refer a reputable seller at that price (preferably a member here)? Fear ko kasi is baka di makarating ang TV dito, or baka lemon ang ibigay. Thanks.

I was able to talk to one of the sellers in olx. You still buy the TV from Ansons. It seems that they will just get a commission from the sale.

Try mo e-reply / voltz5 / akong_man sa pdvd marketplace, you can ask them to price-match the one you saw at OLX
They are reputable sellers here

As a gamer, i did a little research on this. Apparently di pala maganda ang current models of 4k tvs for gaming. Even on game mode. The upscaling of graphics to 4k causes noticeable input lag. Pass muna for this year and maybe next until they fix this.
-
Even for 4K-native PC gaming?
-
That sir is a good question. Since i was limited to mostly to current gen game consoles when i was looking online, didnt bother to check for native 4k games for pc.
-
Any upscaling really causes input lag. Nothing new. :)
-
Prices are a lot cheaper than posted above for some of the niche brands in the Philippines. I'll try to move some photos from my phone so you guys can see it here.
-
try to check kung saan gawa mga panels ng may mga input lag na 4KTV (Samsung or LG) usually made in outside Korea (Mexico, etc) according to LG/Samsung, only their bigger size high end panels are made in Korea - 78" 4KTV and above to ensure panels quality are within their specs - didn't experienced input lag on LG's 79" UB980T - played with it for almost 3 weeks xbox 360/ps4/pc - 3 different units, eto yung time na puro may backlight bleed/flashlight effects ang nakukuha kong units and decided to exchanged it for Samsung 78" Curved (HU9000), on my 78" Curved, no input lag din, my son even streamed his game (fast action games) from his bedroom pc to his laptop connected to my TV (via LAN)i - no input lag!! :D ... all inputs on both TVs are upscaled to their default resolutions which is 4K - and the experience is FANTASTIC!!!! :)
-

This i know. That's why i was hoping there was a way to turn off 4k upscaling in game mode (pang movies na lang yung 4k upscaling kung baga) but then again, why buy a 4k display only to downscale it to 1080p? Lol!
-

this is for console gaming right? since most console games are at 720p and a few at 1080p.
sa PC kaya kasi ng 4k resolution so I'm guessing that won't be a prob for PC gaming? (I'm using a big screen tv for my pc gaming.pero not 4k yet. hehe)
-
this input lag made me decide against going 4k. was very interested in the upscaling, till i heard about the lag..
im glad i skipped 4k for now..
and most new gen consoles, they dont have 4k support rin.
plus 4k has no available content pa.

I saw the phenomenal prices of TCL and excluded them as I could not find pricing on sulit for 65" or larger models.
-
Skyworth na 4K uhdtv, ok ba? I think its about 50-ish?
-
While I was looking over 4K TVs I noticed that the cheap ones only have HDMI 1.4. This will limit resolution to 4K at 30p. The HDMI 2.0 spec has 4k at 60p.
-
Other than the Chinese brands what brands out there sell 4K TVs? I know Samsung, LG, Sony sell 4K TVs in the Philippines. Do Philips, Toshiba, Panasonic & Sharp offer here as well?

Yung lg may nilabas na mas maliit na screen 40UB800T. Parang buy one get one sa abensons.

May sense ba na mag-4K UHD on such a small screen? I'm referring to the LG 40UB800T. Sm appliance and abensons buy 1 get 1 at 80Kphp.

Apple came out with a 27-inch 5K display. :)

upscaling causes input lag. there's practically 0 4k content right now.
so what's the point of 4k today?
late 2016? probably. but 2014 to 2015? probably not.
-
I took the bait and ended up with the 55" LG UB85 4k panel...
If I continued to wait, I think the market will go beyond 4k models pretty soon... so will try to enjoy this as much as possible...

Congrats!

Good choice! Anything smaller than 55" might just be a bit small for 4k.

I don't see 8k being practical until probably after 2021, to be honest, particularly since most film restorations are being done in 4k format.
-
I'm eyeing the entry level UHD of Samsung, the HU7000. Ok kaya? 60hz native panel lang ata ito eh. Mas lamang pa yung H6400 (non-4K led) pero 120hz native panel. Yung HU7000 has 240hz clear motion rate while the H6400 has 480hz clear motion rate. Now I'm unsure what to get.

Maybe the owner shoots video in 4K or watches streamed content in 4K?
Until Netflix, Amazon or Sony brings their 4K service here, we'd be waiting for 4K Blurays (expected next year).
-
Sony has the best 4k tech imho, then Samsung, then LG fairs the last. Compared it side by side playing a 1080p HD download of Malificent.

on the consumer end GoPro has a 4K camera already. Some android smartphones have 4k video. Through a 3rd party app you can use your iphone to record 4k.
Outside of countries with 4k streaming services there are no 4k content.
This is a reason why I'm holding off purchase to as early as 2016.
4k computer display is lovely today.

Sony does not use LG 4K panels, they use AU Optronics. Sony is really the forefront of the 4K screen revolution and they have the most content available.
The 2014 SONY 4k models are quite future proof since they all have the industry standard for 4K like HDMI 2.0 and HEVC codec support of up to 4K*1/60p

"Sony opted to use LG IPS passive 3D panels in its W9 HD models, a move which appears to have backfired. These panels appear unable to rival the contrast performance of the latest Samsung panels, and it's resulted in a would-be brilliant Sony TV that's horribly undermined by some iffy black levels.
The conclusion is that they're out-performed by Sony's own cheaper and wonderous W8 series (which doesn't use LG panels)."

Well, not all 4k Tv's available here in the Philippines have the HDMI 2.0 and HEVC codec support of up to 4K*1/60p. Specially the cheaper ones from Chinese Brands.
LG and Samsung may have those but SONY still has an edge because of the content.
The Panasonic 4K tv your saying is not available here in the Philippines and Panasonic TV's in general are not that visible in the Ph market. This is a Philippines forum after-all.
People will forget about Plasma since SAMSUNG, LG and most manufacturers already decided to end producing Plasma TV's. So we cant compare it anymore. Plasma is dead.
The only thing they say that is better than 4k is OLED which is very expensive at the moment and it will not gain enough traction unless they produce cheaper OLED displays and produce enough yields of the panel.

They source from AUO when they can, but the larger panels come from LG.
Samsung, LG and Sharp make the biggest mass-produced TV panels so they would have to choose between the three on who to source from.
Sony makes good TVs, but I can't say that they are at the forefront of TV tech (at least not for flat panels). They are pioneers of 4K for projectors.

Stuff I expect in the coming years:
1. Deep Color Content
2. High Dynamic Range Tech
3. High Frame Rate Content
4. Dolby Atmos in Widespread Use

anyone here has a LGUb850T? i cant configure my cable box (sky cable) with the TV.

i don't trust devant or any chinese / taiwanese TV brand ever since. For an 85k i might as well buy a sony(55W800B) or a samsung(55H6000) both of those are only full HD but they pump out gorgeous images.

+1 on this
-
I dont trust them as well but I dont mind having second look in their UHD TVs.
Will find time to check the Devant 65UHV130 65in esp the backlight bleeding

Going with devant for me is a big no no mag uuwi na lang ako ng LED 65 inch ::) ::) ::) ::)

Any of you guys pulled the trigger on the devant 4k
-
I'm tempted by LG's 40" 4K tv. ::) :P
-
When buying any TV ask if it has a built-in ISDB-T tuner so you do not need to get a separate Mahiwangang BlackBox.
-
Ang laki na ng improvent ng LG sa 4K lineup nila, and ang ganda na rin ng pricing nya...
Am considering them now, dati ay Samsung at Sony lang ang tinitingnan ko, ngayon pwede na syang
isama sa mga contenders...

i don't think these models are 4k, but maybe mistaken...
-
Nope, by the look of those models, hindi pa 4K yan,...
Bagsak na ang pricing ng mga "ordinary" full HD kasi dito,...
the Samsung 75" 7150 is at $2800-2999,...
-
He mentioed that he
i don't think these models are 4k, but maybe mistaken...
Yes those are not 4K TVs; the poster is just implying to either of those FullHD models rather than getting the 4K of Devant.
-
Best price so far for the 4k 65 decant is around 83k. Will be biting the bullet tomorrow or saturday. Can you share a good test movie i can use to see if its really worth it.
-
I just came from ansons and was staring at the 65" 4K devant. Ang sammmmaaaaaaaaaa ng PQ! Mas maganda pa ordinary full HD ng samsung or LG. When i was watching the demo parang ang labo and dark ng picture. Even at that cheap price i wouldnt go near it. But kanya-kanya lang yan.
-
don't say we did not warn you, hahahaha...for 83k sir as i said before i rather buy a Sony 55W800B Full HD lang xa pero yung devant mo na 4k resolution cud hardly match up againts the Sony's 55W800B that's the fact. as we all know higher resolution does not relate to as an excellent image. DEVANT is a rubbish TV brand, yaks..lol..
-
a lot of us don't trust Devant, including me, but it would be better for you to test and possibly change the calibration settings during the test ... who knows, they may have already improved ... Samsung and LG started that way, dati Sony and JVC lang ang preferred and hindi pinapansin ang Korean brands
-
i wasn't able to try the devant, but tried the 4k of samsung, sony and lg and fullhds of the same brands. Used the first few minutes of age of extinction. for me 4k tvs have more detail than the fullhd counterparts. samsung and lg have good details. 3d better sa akin ang passive so sony(55 only) and lg for me.
-
Actually first time i saw it pq wasnt so bad it was pretty good actually then i saw it in display at another store and noticed it was really bad which is why to come up with an educated purchase plan to test it using some good movies to see how it pars against the LG6500 na 60
-
Check also 60" Full HDs of Sharp ;)
-
Check also 60" Full HDs of Sharp ;)
Sharp has 4K tvs in 70" size. I've seen Sharp's Full HD 70" alongside Samsung's curved UHD 78", the Samsung had terrible backlight bleeding whereas the Sharp had better blacks.
-
i've seen the sharp led TV yesterday i think it was a 60 inches(full hd). i don't know the model but the salesman told me it was a dumb tv that's why it was sold for 60k only any idea what's the model# of that sharp?
-
Are the 4K Samsung Curve "auto-depth" feature much better than LG's 4K implementation? Looking at the 65"... made the mistake of getting just the 55" LG 4K... my wifey seems to like the Samsung 4k Curve 65's, I am inclined to get the LG 65 with the matching Harmon Kardon side speakers bundled with it...
-
^how much is the LG 4K 65? Yung LG 4K 79 na lang kunin mo. Kayang kaya mo naman, only P280k :-)

looks like ito nga sir, thank you..ano kaya ang performance nito very attractive yung price for a jumbo screen.
-
sharp is ok naman. I use a 60". The only thing i hate about it is the channel surfing. Its soooo slow in changing channels. May lag ng mga 3seconds. Its ok if you use a digibox.
-
Imho picture is good and black is great. And i think this is bang for a buck for a basic LCD-LED tv below 60k ;)
-
^how much is the LG 4K 65? Yung LG 4K 79 na lang kunin mo. Kayang kaya mo naman, only P280k :-)
The price difference is still significant. It's about 180-190k and Samsung is higher by another 20k, if I am not mistaken at the 65" level. The 65" seems about right to the area that I need to install it at.
I like the "auto-depth" feature of the Samsung curves, but LG seems better of clarity and also the HK side speakers sounded very nice too...
-
LG's 49ub820T vs sony's 49x8500b, both are 4k. The advantage of sony is its 3d function, while lg is not. Sony is 9k more expensive. Both with superb picture quality. What will u choose?
-
Did a quick comparison kanina but inconclusive ako dun sa 4k na devant since i used there test movies eh medyo low quality. Will go back tomorrow and bring my own content. But i have it admit a while ago it was effin terrible i couldnt believe na this was the tv i saw at ansons na medyo napa wow ako probanly because of the content being played but if tomorrow di parin sya okay might end up getting an lg 60 na 6500 smaller display non 4k but at least may peace of mind ako
-
Yesterday as i was checking out the Sharp's 60LE650M there was this Devant 55 inches(UHD) setting beside so i might as well check this out. As i look into this Devant 4k sa TV's menu or its OS palang it is really lame for example, there's no setting or way to control the motionflow, automatic na daw wala din greyscale control(at least yung 2pt. control) lahat na picture control settings is naka preset na daw thru selecting picture mode. lol...
-
ot lang sir, how's 60le650m? when I tried it kasi with my usb it hanged when we viewed a dtshd embedded movie
-
ot lang sir, how's 60le650m? when I tried it kasi with my usb it hanged when we viewed a dtshd embedded movie
ok naman yung performance as expected for a price like that actually i was not really able to tinker around because they misplace the remote control thus i just watch their endless loop of the demo. btw this sharp is a dumb tv kaya pala ang mura anyway i don't care about those smart and 3d features as long the tv has a media player and be able to upgrade its firmware.
as what i heard dito sa pdvd hindi daw advisable to attach a large usb HDD to the tv's usb port it will burn daw the tv's components inside due to heavy current demand of the external HDD dapat lang daw USB dongle lang ang gamitin mo.
-
If you are going to test a display, ensure that you are going to use a BD player or NMT player, do not reply on the build-in USB player of the TV as this gives lower video quality and does not even support 24p playback.
-
Thanks sir opted to go lg already i think the devant was a major no no already brought my 500gb hard disk and it cant decode dts unlike the sony samsung and lg
Pq wise it was just really bad except for the anson display at ortigas i think that was well calibrated and lighted all the other stores automatic greenhills and galeria was just bad made me think twice also the interface and remote was flimsy too
-
Mga brader what can you say about Samsungs 4K UHD UA50HU7000R? It retails around 60K mura na kaya yun?. Anyone have tried or owed this 4K UHD? Is worth it? Salamat! :)
-
For 60k bro go for it the tcl and devants sell for 50k so for 10k more im all for it

Bro for peace of mind both sony and samsung are reputable brands in fact samsung makestheir own panels while sony outsources them

Remind lang guys, to better appreciate 4K (true 4K or upscaled) better get 60" or bigger TV.
For me, no sense ang 4K kapag 50" lang bibilin mo. Better go OLED kung okay ka na sa 50".
Lots of times ko na napanood 1080p sets side by side sa 4K tv with upscaled content, both being 50", and they don't look any different at all.
-
I was at fisher mall yesterday and went to western. I saw a 55 inch lg on sale. 4k na, around 84000. Im not updated with 4k pricing but this is fyi.

Most popular 4K TV that is not curved & larger than 70-inch at Amazon. It is a 2014 model that first came out in May 16, 2014. It sells for $5,497.99.
Really looking forward to 2016 model when 4K Blu-ray has a few months to spread. The NTC should have the implementing rules and regulations out for Digital Terrestrial TV in a few weeks time.

Am really surprised sa laki ng improvement ng panel ng Sharp and LG lately,
pag nakita mo sila in person, lalo ang mga 65" and above panels nila, WOW,...
Before then, Samsung talaga ang makakakuha ng pansin mo, but now, pag nagkatabi tabi sila,
ang ganda ng resolution and color rendition nila, though nagkakaiba na lang sila ngayon sa refresh rate,
and somehow, in my opinion, dun na lang magkakatalo talaga when making a purchase,
naka-set ako sa 75", still waiting, probably sa next batch ng release ng newer models.
Also, I wasn't considering Sony then, but lately, ang ganda ng panel din nya,... ;)
-
I've notice LG's 4K panels are not really that pricey case for example the 55UB850t only worth around 85k to 90k php and it has all the features specifically for 4K materials. I wonder how's their screen uniformity coz I know before, LG panels are falling short about this.

yung larger, higher end Sharp LED tvs (60" and up), maganda ang panel. nakita ko dati side-by-side, Sharp 70" Full HD at Samsung 78" Curved UHD, mas maganda ang blacks and PQ ng Sharp. yung Samsung, matindi ang backlight bleeding at di kasing-ganda ang blacks sa Sharp! :o

I went for the 4K LG 55" and 42" (went to the rooms) and also a Samsung Curve 4K 65" (ended up in the main HT room).
I can say, the free 4K 500gb from Samsung was great but was hoping to find more materials out there. I know that those who got the Sony 4K models have their own 4K freebie materials.
As for the built-in smart TV features, on the LG 4K 55" and the Samsung Curve 4k 65" had them built-in. I like LG's SmartTV OS using the (defunct HP product) called webOS.
On the other hand, Samsung also had it's own but interface wise, I like the LG implementation.
Anyway, I still think that using an external smart TV add-on is much better way to go. This way, I am not taxing the display units' motherboard too hard. There's already a slew of Android based NMT players those and some have good rendition of their 4K capable units. :)
I am also toying with the Openelec implementations on my HTPC gears (XtreamerUltra's).

Sony and Panasonic are shuffling panel suppliers. Sony was a long-time Samsung panel user for its higher end models; they have switched over to LG in the past couple of years. Panasonic has been an LG panel user for quite some time, and it is now using Samsung panels for higher models. Lower end models are often farmed out to Taiwanese/Chinese suppliers.
Both Japanese companies are in talks with the Korean panel makers for future OLED TV releases. LG Display is expecting to turn around its OLED production this year (start to make a profit out of manufacturing them).

was also at Abensons yesterday, dami ng 4K na less than 100k ... napansin ko lang nawala na mga OLED, at yung mga curved models mas makapal sa flat LED ... have they stopped developing OLED? or wala lang dito sa atin ... i was expecting na boom na yung technology this year

I think it's because of the price. OLED is priced waaay out of reach of most consumers. :-\
-
I think it's because of the price. OLED is priced waaay out of reach of most consumers. :-\
Plus the fact that despite the high price, LG and Samsung are losing money on OLED TV sales. Manufacturing cost is still very high at this point (partly because of BOM, and partly because of low yields). The makers won't push a product that they don't make money from. The high initial investment and development costs are apparently what stopped Panasonic and Sony from dipping their hands into an OLED joint venture.
If their fabs progress as expected, LG is projecting that they can start to break even on this product by the latter part of this year (I doubt Samsung would be behind on this). LG and Samsung are in such tough competition to get this product to the market that they are suspecting that corporate espionage is happening. Once the tech becomes truly profitable, the panel makers will surely ramp production and start pushing them to the shelves. Once they reach this point, they will start milking the technology with sustained premium pricing to pay for the original investment until other producers get the capability to deliver competing products.
Right now the 4 big panel makers are:
1. LG Display (Korea)
2. Samsung (Korea)
3. Innolux Corp. (Taiwan) - formerly ChiMei
4. AU Optronics (Taiwan) - formerly Acer Display
Most TV makers just source from these 4 panel makers. The largest Japanese panel maker (Sharp) is now a small niche player when compared to the market shares of the top 4.
The Taiwanese panel makers (Innolux and AUO) are closing the gap in terms of LCD performance, but they they may take some time to bring the fight to OLED (based on the time they took to develop their LCD tech).

4K TV owners, I'm curious, I noticed that 4K TV brands are advertising upscaling effect.
Does it mean that even though you are playing a 1080p content, screen quality is better than a regular HDTV?

nasa 380k yung 84"

nanhinayang kaya nag antay pa uli.. dahil may 4k lalabas... pag bumaba sana 79" hehehe kayalang malayo pa sa presyong gusto ko e.. :(
nakikita ko kasi lg 65" tapos 79" na agad.. akala ko meron in between.. mga 72" hehe

Im down to these three:
l
LG 65UB980
SAMSUNG 65HU8500
SONY 65X850B
yung lg top of the line. While samsung and sony is one step down.
LG and Samsung pareho ng price. Sony is 20k more expensive per sir vic's price in olx. If magdecide ako sa sony. Baka maghaggle ako kay sir vic to remove the free ps4 para pareho na sila ng price.
Curiously, parang downgraded yung version ng sammy compared to UE version or I might be looking at a diff model.
Notable yung pagkawala ng camera and ome connect box pwr sm appl. Will check ansons na lang to recon.

Sir the Samsung 75UH8550 is BEAUTIFUL,..!

Naglabas na ng patikim ang SONY:

Aquos UH30 (High End) - THX 4K Cert, Wide Gamut RGB Panel
Aquos UE30 (Mid Level) - Mainstream Large Panel 4K

Sobra ganda ng PQ ng OLED ng LG. Ang itim ng blacks sobra. Sana mag mura na sya agad. Ito lang kasing ganda ng plasma.
OLED is well beyond Plasma in contrast ratio and color gamut. The technology is being limited by the source material available, however. Currently available materials were designed for less capable display technologies (Rec.709 color space).
Only OLED panels are capable of reproducing the Rec.2020 color space faithfully at this moment. They are trying to further develop Laser and LED projectors and Quantum Dot LCD panels to get there however (as cheaper options to OLED).
HDR, Rec.2020 and Deep Color are now supported by the UHD Bluray standard. If film production companies utilize these properly, OLED will start showing its true capability. I think most will take some time to do so however, as most theaters cannot display that level of image quality (nor would the production companies have the equipment to fully maximize these technologies). Dolby Vision (one of the HDR specs) contrast ratio is 10x that of the best plasma TV measured. Netflix is readying HDR UHD material ahead of UHD Blurays. This should look awesome on HDR displays (I hope they start adopting Rec.2020 and Deep Color as well).
Color space improvement:
As you can see, Rec.2020 covers a wider range of what humans can perceive (the colored shape is the extent of human color vision). This allows for a more realistic image. With display technology improvements, they are getting closer to a "glass window" when it comes to image quality.
-
On the LCD end, QD backlighting on LG's and Samsung's flagship LCD panels are allowing wider color gamuts and greater contrast ratios.

The Taiwanese makers should not have much difficulty following this route (manufacturing these would not be as intricate or as costly as OLED manufacturing).

The new 2015 LG UF7600 series....Quantum Dots technology na kaya? It says in the article..."Color Prime Technology"...is it same as the quantum dots tech? Looks like Samsung and LG are really hell bent on outdoing each other...am kinda incline sa LG..ang ganda tlaga.

Hindi pa Quantum Dot ang UF7600. It uses a wide color phosphor led backlight to deliver improved color depth. This is an evolution of prior phosphor led backlight designs. Instead of using a single phosphor type, its backlight uses a multi-chromatic phosphor set to raise color rendition. It's better than the prior backlight designs, but not as good as quantum dot tech.
-
curious.. ano po ang quantum dots? hehe 4k ba will be the new standard?
parang 1080p?
dati kasi naalala ko pinagtatalunan 720p to 1080p.. hehe parang ganun?

In the simplest form: QD LED backlighting is a technology/technique intended to deliver a "complete" light (correct spectral distribution) to the panel. This in turn allows the LCD on top to cover a wider range of colors. The correct implementation of this technology allows TVs to correctly present all the colors that existing materials have, and have some surplus capacity to support the wider color gamuts of future formats.
You are correct. UHD and 4K are the next steps up in resolution (for Home Entertainment and Digital Cinema respectively).

Sir, saan mo nabili? Saka konting review sa TV kung may time kayo. TY
Got it from a seller at OLX. Ahente of LG or something apparently but the guy who had the ad was not employed by that appliance chain. Got an O.R. though.
Sadly, no time for a review as I just moved in to a new house so my schedule is pretty hectic at the moment.
-
Sony's Triluminos tech. is the same as samsung's quantom dot? if that is true then sony is way ahead for 3yrs.?

Thanks sir. Nag dadalawang isip kasi ako kung kukuha din ako ng ganyang model o hihintayin ko na lang lumabas 'yung 2015 models ng LG. :)
-
Sony's Triluminos tech. is the same as samsung's quantom dot? if that is true then sony is way ahead for 3yrs.?
They're the same. But it's not true that Sony is ahead of Samsung or LG when it comes to display tech (at least in terms of actual physical hardware). Samsung actually had QD array displays (which is far higher tech than any QD LED backlighting, though ultra-expensive) since 2011. LG had RGB backlit displays on professional displays since 2008 (this is superior to QD LED backlighting, but is costlier). Both could have made QD LED backit LCD TVs years ago if they really wanted to. They were too preoccupied with pushing OLED to production, so they didn't bother with QD LED backlighting. Both are now having difficulty bringing down OLED costs though, so they are now pushing interim products in the form of QD LED backlit LCD TVs.
Sony's Triluminos screens mostly come from AUO utilizing QD Vision optics. They do not own the technology. They only decided to use QD Vision's optics for their 2013 flagship and used a trademark for it (Triluminos). LG is using the same QD Vision optics now on their QD LED models (since this is cheaper than using their own RGB LED tech, and is better than their cheaper multi-chromatic phosphor tech). Samsung sports its in-house QD optics tech for now (which is what's in their current SUHD TVs), but will move on to licensed optics from Nanosys on upcoming products.
Samsung and LG are vertically integrated companies. They make most of what they use. Sony can no longer afford that kind of setup, and is now largely dependent on technology partners and suppliers.

sir stagea - so the sony's X8500B is a bang for the buck QD tv. you could only get it 115k for a 55 inch.

Color gamut wise, it's good (because of the advanced backlight). Contrast-wise, not so much (though it's not bad).

thanks, stagea it seems you are a TV engineer.

Not really, though I worked for a company making them for over a few years.
My suggestion: Don't look for whatever technology's behind the TV.
If you're not calibrating the screen: Look for a picture that you like from a brand that you trust.
If you're calibrating the screen: Look for performance measurements and available calibration controls.
Unless you're OC with PQ, you can go for a bigger screen and just skip QD for now if the budget is 115k. You can get a 65" UHDTV instead.
-
u can get a UHDTV 65" for a 115k? what brand would that be?

LG for 125k. A curved screen from Samsung is about 13k extra.

I'm torn between the 65uh8700 vs 65ub980t vs 65x8500b...Which one is the best investment long term? Planning on getting one this week...

This series Sony uses LG displays, afaik. It might even share a lot of parts with the 980t (they have different backlights though). Both have wider viewing angles than the Samsung. The Samsung model delivers noticeably superior contrast, however (the black levels make this a choice for darker rooms). I don't care about curved TVs, though some people may. It's a choose your own poison thing.
-
How's the built in Harman Kardon speakers on the LG 65ub980t? Ganda aesthetically ng model na ito, not to mention the price tag of around 150K :)
-
i don't care for curved either.. Hmmm.. Lg and Sony have the same panels? How's the light bleeding issue for both?
Problem is I'm in tarlac and it seems I have to rely on sm tarlac to get this units.. I got my previous tv's from sir Vic. But at this size I don't think it'll fit my car now...

Sony does not make flat panel screens so they source from willing vendors. AUO is now their preferred source, but they also source from LG. Before the current sourcing partnerships, they used to largely source from Sharp and Samsung. You can mostly tell where they sourced from by looking at the pixel structure of the screen.
AUO:
LG:
Except for Sharp, the rest of the Japanese makers do the same panel sourcing setup as they don't make their own panels.
Usual large panel sources:
1. LG (Korea)
2. Samsung (Korea)
3. AUO (Taiwan)
4. Innolux (Taiwan)
5. Sharp (Japan)
-
Sharp makes good panels from 60" up. 50" and below models are meh!
-
was in one of Best Buy stores in Orlando last week, 60-inch Samsung 4k LED tv selling for $1,099 ... hopefully prices drops that low here in the Philippines
-

I think they now concentrate on larger panels and value models.
They are struggling to make a profit. They tried to bank on the high end before with the Elite line and the Quattron models. What they found out is that the typical buyer is not willing to shell out that much on a similar sized screen. They moved on to supersized mass production panels under the Aquos line. That failed to move too. Now they are very cautious with releases and are putting most of their bets on mainstream sizes with a few differentiators.

I hope so too. Not even TCL prices that low over here.
Once the PROC panel makers get to the level of the top five makers, I expect prices to drop further. The top makers are already bracing for it by moving some of their panel production to China. They cannot be cost-competitive if they continue to operate from their home countries.

Splurged on 65HU9000. Used to be 220k+. Now you can get it for 158k

Hi Stagea. It seem ur very knowledgeable with LED TVs. I would like to seek ur advice. Im planning to buy LG 49" UB850T or 50" LB6500. However, while canvsssing prices at a Western Appliance store, a sales agent offered me Devant 50UHV130. He said it has good pic quality, is an internet/smart tv and cinema 3D at the same time and much cheaper than LG by more than php20k. Is devant brand ok particularly this model? I want a smart tv with 3D features. What other brand/models could u suggest with my preferred size of around 50"? Thanks in advance with ur review/feedback.

All are cash basis only.

Hello Stagea. It seems ur very knowledgeable with LED TVs. I was planning to buy LG 49" UB850T or 50"LB65.
I have no personal experience with Devant. They are made by the same people behind Skyworth, I hear. Though they have improved a lot, I've not seen a Chinese maker aside from TCL deliver a consumer grade TV that measures comparably to the major Korean and Japanese brands (not that I've seen a lot of them benched). If you like the picture and trust their after sales support, I do not see why not.
For the lesser known makers, AmTRAN is probably the closest to the big brands (this is a Taiwanese maker). Some of their TVs are quite commendable. Visio and JVC TVs are from them. Funai is getting there as well (source of Magnavox, Emerson, Sanyo AV, etc. TVs), at least on the entry level side.
Of the three, the 49UB850T will likely give you the best 3D experience. Just make sure that you have the latest firmware.
-
Stagea,
Just like Serchief, am as well torned between the two LG models. Am really inclined for the UHD if not for the price diff against the 6500 series. Now that in the online reseller the price had dipped to 57K something...I think this will really gonna be my first UHD TV. Am also waiting sana for the 2015 models but upon seeing the specs..the entry UF7600 series doesnt have those 3D features . So i guess its the 49UB850T for me.
Any idea what's the latest firmware for the UB850T model? Thanks.

Hisense 110" UHD TV:

TCL has a same-sized curved model.
Samsung released theirs late in 2013. There are no pixel close-ups of the TCL and Hisense models, but I have a feeling that they are running Samsung panels (I am sure Samsung does not sell that many 110" TVs).

Hindi na ako nakpaghintay na lumabas dito sa atin 'yung 2015 models. I bought the LG 42 UB820T yesterday, the only remote control that was included in the box is the "magic remote"? Dati kasi 'yung LG 42 LS5700 na nabili ko, parang "free" lang 'yung magic remote which I don't even use. Anyway, kesa bumili pa ulit ako ng bagong remote, masasanay na din siguro kami gamitin 'yung magic remote. :)

Sa OLX lang for 30K plus 500 for the delivery charge. Factory Sealed naman, we checked the time used sa TV nakalagay "0" pa. Sayang nga, nabili ni Sir brutalpanda ng 28K lang, kaso noong tinawagan ko na 'yung seller nya, tapos na daw promo, back to 33K na. Sa dami ng store na na-canvass ko, pinakamura na 'yung 30K.

60UB820T or UA55HU7200. Not sure about their HDD support, but the LG offers a big screen that allows you to enjoy the extra detail in 4k. Viewing angle is also better than the competition. The Samsung model on the other hand supports deeper blacks and 4:4:4 chroma subsampling.

Will wait for next year to pull the trigger on a 75",...

Its been barely 4 months, my friend's 75 4K just developed a vertical green line,...
We called Samsung Tech support, after 2 days, the appointment was set for a tech guy to visit him,
Later this afternoon, my friend called me and informed me that Samsung's tech guy just replaced the whole panel,..
Awesome support,..!

Capability to properly display HDR and UHD Deep Color material that is coming with UHD Bluray (currently only on Netflix).
These features need far more contrast and color range than what previous screens can display, hence the "Super" prefix despite having the same pixel count as normal UHD.

It is not any worse as UHD is exactly twice the horizontal and vertical pixel count of FHD. If the scaling is done well, then the image quality would actually be better (with everything else being the same).
Both 720p (HD) and 1080p (FHD) scale well to 2160p (UHD) because 2160p is exactly 3x3 of 720p and 2x2 of 1080p. Integer scaling is better than what we see with 1080p screens that do 1.5x1.5 scaling for 720p content.

Looking around at ansons trinoma yesterday and checked out the prices of lg led tv. Surprisingly the 2015 lg 49uf670t (4K UHD, smart tv) is cheaper than the outgoing model 49ub850t by 3Kphp. Baka walang 3D yung UF670t. Can't really find enough info pa on the 2015 model.

hi guys, ano pwedeng gamitin para maminimize yung lag ng Plex na application? Yung current set-up ko is NAS mapped to PC (primary media server) tapos Samsung 4k TV connected to router. Transcoded media will lag compared to direct play, which requires no conversion to be used on the target device.

LG for 125k. A curved screen from Samsung is about 13k extra.
What model sir is this the 2015 65UF850T?
-
saw a few weeks back in fairview terraces a sony 49x8500b that was being sold at around 64k, however comparing it with the newer 2015 model, this has better pic quality/3D and skype camera. The drawback is that it does not have android software. Will it be better to get that than the 2015 stripdown model? Tia

Samsung is aiming to be the first company to bring an Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray Disc player to market.
The South Korean tech giant announced the news (http://global.samsungtomorrow.com/samsung-electronics-shows-how-to-bring-the-internet-of-things-to-life-at-ifa-2015/)at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin Thursday. The player, which has a curved shape to match Samsung's curved Ultra HD TVs, is due in early 2016; no pricing was announced.
Fox Home Entertainment announced plans to make all upcoming releases available in the 4K Ultra HD format, on the same day that traditional Blu-ray discs hit -- and to have discs out when the player arrives. Among the releases in the works: Exodus: Gods and Kings, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Fantastic Four, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Life of Pi, Wild and The Maze Runner.

Naku its too many to mention sir...
Try visiting na lang Abensons, Ansons, Automatic Centers and SM Home Appliances for the brands and models.
Suggestion din po to go with the known brands(Samsung, LG, Sony, Toshiba, Sharp). Hindi pa kasi stable ang performances and reliability ng China brands like Devant and TCL...

First yun curved sound bar, ngayon ito naman. Hehe! They are really investing and promoting on curved TVs.

Guys any thoughts on the LG 65 LA9700 and the LG 65 UF850/860T? All these models are currently being offered at sub P100k prices. So far what I gathered is that the 9700 is an older model with a built in sub woofer at the back and sound bar like sliding speakers. The 850 or 860 are both 2015 models with 'improved' picture quality being offered at discounted prices by competing appliance retailers (SM and Ansons for the 850 and Abenson for the 860). I have seen both the 850 and 860 but not the 9700.
-
Planning to buy the Sony 49inch 4KTV, okay ba to buy na this month or should I wait for December baka mas mura? Cheapest I've seen is at P54,999.

I see, sabagay, good point...
49incher 4KTV looks good, pero parang mas sulit nga 'pag at least 60" but budget won't permit it.
Any place where I can get a Sony 55W800B? :) How much do they go nowadays? Lazada posts weird prices.

if i had the budget... would definitely go bigger din.. kesa 4k..

Anyone here experience a bit of backlight bleeding on Sammy 40ju6600? Just got one this weekend, there are some youtube videos that show a bit of backlight bleeding on the bottom part, though when using it for other videos (bds, hd cable, games) theres no bleeding visible - only on certain youtube videos lang talaga...
does that warrant a replacement na agad?

Some bleed is normal. Check other units. Pag excessive yung sayo, then report it immediately.
-
Thanks Stagea!
It is excessive, sa bottom part lang naman, and only on "some" youtube videos, will raise na din sa store para safe sa 7 day replacement
Thanks!

Guys, worth ba ang few thousand bucks more if I were to purchase a 43" uhd compared sa full hd lang? The source will be mostly coming from Cignal/Skycable. Which one should I get, uhd or full hd? Thanks.

Value for money depends on what features you value.
For UHD sets, the LG 60UF670T and Samsung UA60JU6400 both now sell for below 70k.
If you don't care about UHD, the Sharp LC60LE650M goes for less than 55k. It's known to deliver very good contrast for the price.
If your budget goes above these price points, consider higher models (or better yet, larger TV sets).

my lg 65uf860t just got a firmware update. HDR is just awesome. Ive seen the HDR Life of PI and Exodus sample clips

Yesterday already got an lg 55ug8700 @ ansons cash n carry, will install on wall today for testing, super excited!!

For those who already have these 4k uhd tvs, if your source is 1080p blurays, is there really a big difference vs 1080p?
Im thinking kasi just to wait until real 4k blurays are plenty na sa market before getting one.
Thanks

Just got an lg 4k uf680
Downloaded some 4k clips and played it thru usb. . It's really clear. Very detailed.
Here's the thing. When playing full HD movies through their usb, medyo Hindi sya detailed. Same with non hd movies.
Playing Blu-ray disc naman via ps3, ok lang. Nothing improve. As it is I'm still using my old full HD TV.
Any settings I need to do? Both on tv or ps3. Or I just need to have a proper Blueray 4k up scaling player

It seems like the built-in upscaler of your 4K TV is not up to your standards. In this case, the native Full HD TV will still look best, since it's 1:1 pixel ratio with your video source.
In many cases, 1080p and 720p sources play worse on 4K TVs, unless the upscaler on the TV (or the player) is really good. Unfortunately, depending on the person's expectations, the good upscalers can be expensive.

See specs here (http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/lg-55-4k-ultra-hd-ips-smart-tv-55uf8500/6000194125350)

my dad bought a Sony X83C 4K 49" price at Sony at around P41k. Tested out last NYE weekend. 1080 was great. 720 not too much improvement. Anime tested were clean and crisp. Not able to maximize Youtube 4k test videos as network was slow using a pocket wifi for LTE only. I think its a good buy at this price. Would try out 4k videos next.

I just got a hisense 40inch 4k 40k322 w/c is the same 4k UHV200 series from devant.
I wanted to use this as my monitor for my gtx 970. I was first skeptical about the TVs hdmi 2.0 support but it is indeed hdmi 2.0 and it can display 4k @ 60hz/60fps unlike 1st gen 4k TVs that are only ver 1.4.
Ok yung response time nya, no input lag, yung contrast nya ok. kaya sumabay sa panasonic plasma ko na 42px20. 120hz capable pa sya (1080p only) via nvidia custom resolution. (up to 480hz interpolated/smooth motion via menu)
All for 21.5k (19.6k cash). Although the LG 40 inch 4k is just 2k more expensive 40UF670T, yung hisense/devant na kinuha ko kasi mas ok yung response time. kita ko yung ghosting sa LG and may built in isdb tuner na si hisense/devant.
Ito yung review nya for the 50 inch version:

Since all 4K TV sets upscale the pic to 4K, I'd like your opinion on the upscaler of LG, Sony, Samsung. Primary source material is Skycable w/ SD and HD (1080i /1080p) channels, 720p movies, Blu-ray Discs, DVDs. I heard lousier PQ for SD, DVD and 720p. Is there a way to bypass Upscaling for any of the brands?

I think iba ibang models per brand, iba iba din ang upscaling niya. Someone told me that the more expensive models have better upscaling.

Internet Connection Speed Recommendations
Below are the Internet download speed recommendations per stream for playing movies and TV shows through Netflix.
0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality
5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality
HD Video Quality
Movies and TV shows that are available in high definition will play in 720p or better with a fast enough Internet connection. To watch Netflix in HD, ensure you have an HD plan, then set your video quality setting to High in the Playback Settings for your account.
Netflix Bandwidth Usage
Higher quality video uses more bandwidth than lower quality video. If your service provider applies a bandwidth or data cap to your Internet service, you can Manage Bandwidth Usage by changing the video quality settings to Low or Medium to consume less data.
... Nice!!!...

Good news to those who are patiently waiting for this to finally happen!
UHD Premium Cerfitication finalized (http://www.avsforum.com/ultra-hd-premium-certification-at-ces-2016/)
Not so good new to those to already succumbed to current 4K releases.

They may not be certified, but higher-end 2015 TV releases would likely still meet the specs required for UHD Premium. Samsung's SUHD models and LG's OLED and Quantum Dot UHD models should do quite well. LG is now naming their Quantum Dot models as "Super UHD" (very similar to Samsung's "SUHD").
Those who have 20Mbps or better connections can now watch UHD material from Netflix. Netflix' material does not take full advantage of the features of UHD Premium TVs though because of the color space used.
Amazon Prime Instant Video is where we can get Rec. 2020 material. If Netflix makes it big in the Philippines, maybe we can get Amazon PIV too. The main hurdle would be the local internet infrastructure.

Agree. Most people would likely run Netflix at SD res... pretty sad.
Netflix Data Rate:
Low Def: 0.3 GB per hour (0.7 Mbps)
Standard Def: 0.7 GB per hour (1.6 Mbps)
High Def: 3 GB per hour (6.7 Mbps)
Ultra HD: 7 GB per hour (15.6 Mbps)
Those with fast connections may be held back by fair use policies throttling connections midway through a movie/show.
-
^^ should not impact on PLDT Fibr subscribers. I wish Netflix would host some of their servers here so congestion would not be that bad.

Do you have Netflix available on the app.store? When I got my 4k TV, wala Siya. Not even available for download. But I heard Samsung and Sony just updated their app.store so meron na. LG wala pa.
Another thing is, I'm subscribed to pldt 3 mbps and Netflix ultra hd. I'm getting 480p up to 720p resolution. Is that normal? Sorry because I'm new to this Netflix and 4k TV thing

not yet sir. Netflix still doesn't show in the list of apps for download in LGs app store. Been using my ps3 to watch Netflix.
I'll just settle for a media player that plays all kinds of files including mkv and 4k movies and can accommodate external hard drive.
Was thinking of Roku 4 but then it won't play mkvs and 4k movies via the usb. It can only stream 4k contents via Netflix. Need something that does both specifically the ability to play all kinds of files including 4ks.
Any suggestions

Do you have Netflix available on the app.store? When I got my 4k TV, wala Siya. Not even available for download. But I heard Samsung and Sony just updated their app.store so meron na. LG wala pa.
Another thing is, I'm subscribed to pldt 3 mbps and Netflix ultra hd. I'm getting 480p up to 720p resolution. Is that normal? Sorry because I'm new to this Netflix and 4k TV thing
I have an LG Smart TV though it's only full HD not 4K but it now has Netflix even without downloading it from the LG app store:

To 4k or not 4k?
Hi guys I'm planning to replace my Toshiba 46 PB20 in the next couple of months.
I'm currently debating if I should go 4k or stick with Full HD?
My main concern with 4k is perhaps scaling issues with non 4k and 1080p material.
Here's my primary usage
- Movies!! MKV and Blurays
- DVD's!! I held on to my DVD's and I would like them to look decent enough to watch. I fear 4k might make them look bad.
- Gaming
- PC monitor (heard a lot about scaling issues especially very small text)
I care nothing for "SMART" features. Budget is below 50k so I'm looking at the Sony KDL 50w800c or Sony KD 49x8000c
What say you? TIA

I've not had issues with scaling. 480p is about as viewable as 480p gets in my case, though I do use a PC to do all the resolution scaling (just letting the TV do the frame interpolation).
Input lag is also now very low for most of the new UHD TVs (unlike in 2013 and 2014). You can always bring in a USB jump drive to playback 480p, 720p and 1080p content on UHD TVs on display. That'd give you a better idea of how the internally-scaled image will look like.
-
Thanks for the input Stagea.
Yup DVD still accounts for about 20% of my viewing so it's very important.
I've read good things about the Sony X1 4k upscaler, I just need to get feedback from fellow peers.
-
Which players/tv's have the best upscaling at the moment?
-
The Samsung js9000 and js9500 have very good 4K upscaling as well as the Sony x9400 series...

I'll check it out at the shops. Hope they let me play my USB stick.
What about media players? Or software for HTPC's?

Scaling to 4K is a bit heavy on processing without hardware acceleration. GPUs do it quite well (recent dedicated and integrated units). If you're looking for HDMI 2.0 support, current Nvidia units have it natively (current Intel units need a DP to HDMI dongle to get HDMI 2.0; this is also true for AMD except for the Carrizo APU). Fully-accelerated HEVC decode is another Nvidia GPU advantage at the moment (the only other x86 solution at the moment is the Carrizo APU).
While PCs can likely do better than most consumer devices when it comes to video scaling, it currently is in a disadvantage when it comes to native UHD content. UHD Blu-ray drives are yet to be seen.

Check out the NVidia Shield Android TV and HiMedia Q10 and H8...
The Oppo 103 has very good 4K upscaling too but is not a native 4K player...

Hi guys, any recommended 4K tvs available here with 4:4:4 chroma sbsampling? I dont find here the models recommended in the US (ex. Sammy ju7500 or ju6500). For PC use.

When looking at Samsung TVs, check the Picture Options menu for an "HDMI UHD Color" entry. If the TV has that option, it should be capable of 4:4:4 UHD @ 60 Hz.

Kaso mataas kasi reviews ng Sony and maganda daw pq.

This is similar to the x83c and x830c models. Very good video processing coupled with a low contrast panel (shallow blacks).
As for the reliability part, go with what you're comfortable with.
-
Well, mataas relative to its price which is 4k under $1000. Although kaunti lang yung nabasa ko na review for this (x830c/x8000c/x83c).

I agree about the durabililty part about Samsung. we owned both a Samsung and LG 32" lcd tv. the Samsung developed vertical lines after 2 years making it practically unusable. the LG? still works fine till today.

Ayan nadagdagan pa doubts ko sa Samsung. I honestly think na their questionable durability is being overlooked by reviewers. Di talaga maganda experience lo sa kanila. Meron din pala ako isang Samsung product na nasira kaagad which is yung htib ko dati. Wala pa 1 year naka ilang repair na.
I'd love to have a bigger screen but not at the cost of durability. So I guess I might go with Sony on this.

consider also the LG equivalent. :)
TBH, I think the next display upgrade for me is the LG 55EG910 Full HD OLED TV. there is hardly any 4K material around that it's mostly irrelevant. I'd rather have the best blacks, color, PQ, than extra pixels and eventual backlight bleeding. hehe.
-
Ngayon kasi naka-50" na rin ako. Medyo parang bitin na sa sharpness. Also had a look at my friend's 4k TV and while content is not yet there, ganda ng upscaling to 4k while playing an xb1.

Took the bite and got the Sony 49x8000c earlier. Got it from Abensons for only ₱42,000. ;D

Oo master Stagea. I'm using this as a secondary monitor as well just like my old 50" HDTV.

meron bang 4k TV na basic TV lang hindi SMART? Please advise kung ano pwede ko mabili na 4k sa budget na 35k lang?
Thanks.
-
I was at Anson's Makati in front of Landmark earlier. They had the full lineup of OLED tv's from LG on display (55EG910 Full HD, 55EG920 4K, and 65EG965 4K) all had excellent picture quality and blacks! I did notice that the 4K models are sharper than the Full HD model. The 55EG910 also had a slight bluish hint compared to the 55EG920. The 65EG965 also has HDR mode and has the best picture quality of them all.

The only ones I've seen with no Smart functionality are generic ones like Seiki. If you're after image quality, might as well go for a bigger maker and just ignore the smart functionality.
You can get a 55 incher from Chinese brands (Haier, Hisense, etc.) for less than that. There are also online sellers in OLX from Anson's Cash and Carry that sell the LG 50UF830T at 37k+. Imo, it's a good price for a quantum dot display.
-
after a month of tv hunting..i end up with Sammy 65JU6000 instead of curved JU6600....di ko na rin kasi naabutan yung sale..kaya kahit same prize sila non curved na kinuha ko.

congratulations on the buy sir!

hi! anyone familiar with tcl 55E5800 4k tv? just had this tv 3 days ago, shipped from dubai (a gift from my sister), i'm also using cignal HD and WDTV player, pansin ko lang parang pixelated or low res masyado tingnan kapag nagpplay ng 1080p movies and channels, sobrang pansin na pansin yung mga pixels, ganun po ba talaga? or may settings ba para maupscale ng maayos to? para kasing mas maganda pa yung picture quality sa luma naming tv (panasonic 42x30v plasma) ineexpect ko kasi kahit 1080p movies lang ang iplay sa 4k, maganda pa rin sya or mas maganda pa sya dapat kesa sa normal full hd tv. first time 4k user here. thanks in advance!

Check if the TV is cropping the image. If you can turn that feature off, it'd likely sharpen the image quite a bit.

Good morning!

There's a lot to consider (image quality and features, for example). A big chunk of it should depend on your distance to the screen and your source files. The larger screen will be better in most cases (very few people sit close enough to the screen to appreciate 4K from a smaller panel).

Very useful tip for choosing a panel upgrade.
Take a look, too, at this matrix posted in www.the-home-cinema-guide.com (http://www.the-home-cinema-guide.com) and see how your home theatre setup can be optimized:

4K TVs are future proof. But for your option, i'll go for the 50" FHD, you cannot enjoy UHD in a 40" TV, time will come (sooner than what you expect), mabibitin ka due to it's size...
Konti pa lang 4K sources ngayon unlike 1080p sources :)

connected my mini-itx pc to my lg 4k 55 tv...ayos na ayos yung graphics specially if set sa 4k resolution....yun nga lang nung sa mismong game ko sinubukan (GW2) ganda sana graphics compared to 1080p setting problema pag nag move na yung character ko may chopping...he he he.. di kaya specially with integrated graphics only...

A high end GPU is recommended for 4K gaming. If you have the power supply and casing to support it, the GTX 1080 may be the right way to go.
-
you need at least a GTX 980Ti or a GTX 1080 for playable frame rates in 4K. :)

If you do not have different image settings per input, It should not make a difference (unless you get stuttering from insufficient bandwidth). Loading times may be different, however.

Can you guys recommend a 4k UHD 40 - 43"TV? Thanks :)

I saw a Devant LED UHD in S&R during the weekend. Model is 65UHV130 priced at 39,999.95. Is that a good model considering that it's already 65" and 4K?
I would appreciate if someone here owns one and can comment.
Thanks!

Sharp is brandishing its "8K" XU Series TVs in Anson's and Abenson. Don't be fooled, they do not have 8K panels (though they are good TVs). They scale internally to 8K but display on a 4K panel.

I hope to check those new Sharp Aquos TVs the next time na dadalaw ako sa Ansons Makati.
Sya nga pala, Quattron Pro adds "Yellow" into the typical RGB mix. Noticeable ba ito?

It used to allow for more saturation/intensity in the green to red range versus other displays running the same backlight. Displays with conventional LED backlights (high CRI dual phosphor ones in Quattrons and other higher end TVs, and single phosphor ones on many cheaper models) tend to quell the blues because LEDs tend to produce a lot of blue output. With the yellow subpixel, the reds and greens get a boost per pixel (larger transmissive area) -- balancing things out across the spectrum.
Quantum Dot backlights have eliminated the need for the yellow subpixel though, as they are normally very balanced as it is when it comes to spectral distribution.

It should be good. It's implementing what's essentially their Q+/Quattron Plus technology on UHD. Q+ allowed their FHD models excel years ago (link below).

I'm not sure how well it'd fare against the superior backlighting (RGB-optimized quantum dot) on traditional RGB arrays from the competition, however. Current quantum dot backlights don't produce a lot of yellow light, making them unsuitable for a Quattron panel.

Using a 6 series Samsung with similar specs. I'm satisfied. The smart TV function is quite good and can play 4K videos from USB hard drives. Netflix HD also works and my unit updates the firmware when new ones come out.
The remote is also very simple without so many buttons.
Although it's not officially an Android TV, the OS running it is called Tizen which is kinda like rebranded Android OS for Samsung so it functions similarly.

If you also have the Mi Box, the HDMI CEC function works perfectly with the Samsung 6 series, You actually just use 1 remote now (the TV) to control the tv and the mi box. I haven't also touched the Onkyo remote in quite a while.

HDMI CEC compliance is so iffy. You have to find out yourself if your box's firmware implements it well enough.

Haven't been up to date with the 4k tv models available today. Really need your advise on what tv to get.
We were initially looking at LG SUHD. I know some of those people here are suggesting samsung, but we feel like their tvs volume is lacking. We also looked at panasonic for their 650 series which is around 40k for the 49 inch. Do you think panasonic 4k tv is okay or should we go for the LG or even Samsung?
-
Lol sobrang inferior naman ng tingin mo sa Samsung. It's the reputable sites like rtings that have tested the panels and they know what they are talking about. It's not only what you're implying na "some of those people here" Lang na opinions lang nila why they recommend Samsung above all else with regards to non OLED TV's.

Didn't mean to offend anyone by the comment. I have two samsung tv's at home but they are not 4k tvs. And yes, they have nice picture quality, but like I said I just want good speakers on my tv, especially on instances that I'll use It on watching cable tv.
The reason, I put that comment in there is for me to solicit opinions on the other brands aside from samsung or even opinions that prove me wrong on my take on samsung. And I don't belittle the opinions of people in this forum. If i did, I wouldn't post my inquiry here. In hindsight, I should have re-worded my comment as to avoid any confusion on my intent.

I thought the same thing when i saw their tv's in Anson's. I couldn't compare it with samsung or lg at that time though. I miss sights and sounds having a physical store and can compare different tvs side by side. Does anson's or any other store allow that?
-
When I bought my tv at abensons, I requested na pag tabihin yung tv na gusto ko compare. Ginawa naman nila. Siguro that time madali gawin kasi di naman naka mount sa wall mga choices ko.
-
Sige, I will try to ask the store if kaya nila gawin. Thanks, Sir!

Finally, a competitor to Sharp's Wallpaper mode!
I spent the entire December looking for local Sharp models that have this feature... kaso halos lahat wala, only the top-end "8K" Aquos and older overpriced models na HD pa. I even went to 2 Ansons, 1 Abenson and 1 Western Appliance but none of the Sharp reps knew the feature.
In the end I stopped looking and set my sights on LG instead.

Question naman just curious as im planning on getting a new set of tv. If im streaming netflix/iflix would there be a difference if im using a 4k tv against full hd tv? Will the 4k tv display better than the FHD since it will upscale the source to 4k? Im eyeing the sharp 60 FHD against TCL 65 P2 model. Or it will not matter as these are not top of the line model.
Thanks to those who will reply.

I have Samsung 4k curved. Yes, there is a difference even just watching FHD on Netflix, on a 4k set but you'll surely appreciate a 4k set even more when watching Netflix 4k material and they're growing their library. I haven't seen the 2 TV's you mentioned, but I would instinctively prefer the Sharp based on brand alone.

Watch them side by side to validate. I happen to have 60" FHD and 65" UHD TVs, and I am not bothered by the FHD pixels from 8 feet away. If you like filling your field of view (sitting close to the TV), then UHD is definitely an improvement (especially if you are watching UHD sources). UHD at that size will look great even if you sit 4 to 6 feet away from the screen.

btw same brand pala ito master, magkamukha din panel and stand. though obvious yun pagka "cheap" nung 1080p display

UHD models typically get more capable processors/scalers. 720p is also an integer scale to UHD (3x of horizontal and vertical pixel count), which results in a lossless translation. 720p to 1080p is a 1.5x scale, and will never be as good (with everything else being the same).
-
The best 720p to 1080p scalers will scale 720p up to UHD internally, then scale it back down to 1080p. This is the cleanest conversion possible (which is still not as good as just 720p to UHD)
-
^thanks master! i was in the impression that the 720p to 1080p and 1080p to 4k is the same ratio
-
^thanks master! i was in the impression that the 720p to 1080p and 1080p to 4k is the same ratio
That's part of the beauty of UHD resolution. Properly done integer conversions do not cause any loss of data.
480p OS (432p) to UHD: 5x linear, 25x pixel count
HD (720p) to UHD: 3x linear, 9x pixel count
FHD (1080p) to UHD: 2x linear, 4x pixel count
480p OS (432p) to 1080p: 2.5x linear, 6.25x pixel count
HD (720p) to 1080p: 1.5x linear, 2.25x pixel count
UHD (2160p) to 1080p: 0.5x linear, 0.25x pixel count

BT.2020 HDR/WCG (Ultra High Def HDR) vs. BT.709 (High Def) in terms of color volume:
X Axes - Color Space
Y Axis - Intensity in Nits
As we can see, UHD HDR TVs have much bigger shoes to fill. No current TV can display the entire BT.2020 space, so there is a lot of space to grow. A lot of current TVs do better than the BT.709 spec.

nice, ibig sabihin nito master "future proof" yun UHD tvs now?

Ibig sabihin nyan hindi limiting factor sa image quality ang current data formats, if you take compression out of the equation. Even the best screens available cannot display the entire gamut spec nor deliver that intensity range.

I'm not a fan of RGBW or IPS panels on TVs, so I'd gravitate towards the KU6000. Test both TVs for yourself, factor in your brand bias, consider aftersales support, then decide on which one suits you.

I just got my Samsung 65ku6000. I am quite happy with its performance. I don't regret getting this. For me it was a choice between this and the Sony.

How about Samsung 55MU7000 for 68k? Successor of the KS7000? Need expert opinion before I decide to buy.

It's not a successor to the KS7000. Its performance is above the KU series, but below the KS series.

Thanks sir.
The X850D selling price is hurt by the smaller screen sizes using IPS panels. The 85" model uses a VA panel however, which works in its favor. If you don't need UHD Premium levels of intensity and contrast, this is a good alternative (lower SRP, plus well discounted being a 2016 model unit). Sony skipped the 85" size in 2017 models, afaik.
-
Sony is transitioning more of its model lines back to VA panels for 2017, which is a refreshing change. Only the lower end models are now running IPS panels.

Pardon my ignorance sir,
I have the Samsung UNJU7100, and I love its picture quality,
I seldom rely on reviews online, I rely on what looks good to my eyes,
I have been seeing some discussions about IPS panels on the LG tv,
I really have no idea what it is though, I don't even know what panel is on my 75,
well, anyway, is it an advantage or a disadvantage if the panel is an IPS,..?
Saw the Sony XBR-85X850D up close, but somehow I felt that the Samsung still has the edge in terms of
color rendition as well as picture quality,...

JU7100 (and almost all Samsung) TVs have VA panels. The 85X850D runs a VA panel too (the smaller X850D variants use IPS panels).
Generally, IPS allows for wider viewing angles but suffers in terms of contrast, black levels and uniformity. VA panels offer superior contrast, black levels and uniformity, but are worse in terms of viewing angles.

I prefer QLED. Much higher contrast ratio and better color volume. It's still VA vs IPS, afterall.

I tnink Q9F will start at 75inch. here in the philippines and with that scenario Q9F will be commanding more than half a million price maybe thats why where not seeing this tv here. As i said saw Q9F in the states and its PQ was incredible in HDR of course.

Dami pala dapat iconsider sa screen technology and different features ng bawat tv. Lol! Nahilo na ata ako. Haha. Daming info nakuha dito lalo na kay sir stagea! Info overload! Tungkol sa Kung anong panel ang gamit; suhd o uhd, may premium uhd pa; yung hdmi kung 4k o ilan ba ang 4k hdr na hdmi.

HiSense has been upping their game since their big marketing push beginning 2016. They used to rely on technology transfers from Japanese companies (like Sharp, Matsucrapa, and Sanyo) but have since brought in more talent and tie-ups with Chinese universities should bring in innovative ideas.
I haven't met anybody who's owned one of these yet so YMMV.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171002/ca61a4d57d8209da98cf1ce8af222869.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171002/cc69a8f3be21c787e5c5a6c60486be7c.jpg)

got the hisense 4k tv last year it was 50 inch. i forgot the model of that tv and it was really bad it would crash on 4k netflix content, good on 1080p material and after several months of use its wifi module cease to operate so i switch to LAN. funny thing is after a year wall mounting the tv. i found out that the supplied stand legs is making the tv not level flat on my tv rack because the supplied stand legs was not for my tv model i dont know how it got there in the tv's boxing and lastly no tech support directly from hisense only 3rd party licensed tv repair shop. stay away from hisense folks.. btw the tv was only a 60hz. panel with that i experienced frame dropping on 24p material and its motion smoothing is always engaged even i turn it OFF.

Went to Best Buy yesterday to scout out the latest models,
the Samsung QLED was indeed stunning, but too stunning for my taste,
meaning it is way too bright, hindi na makatotohanan ang images and color,
to my eyes, medyo mabigat na ang eye strain nya lalo kung 3 hours kang nakatitig sa kanya,
unlike my previous 75JU7100, then I saw the 82MU8000, this one was perfect,
it was warm to my eyes, and maganda ang color rendition at hindi masakit sa mata,..

For the heck of comparing with Manila's prices, here's what I had seen over the last weekend in one US store with tempting pre-Black Friday price cuts for two models:

Okay, let's do some math using today's (October 11, 2017) current exchange rate of $1.00 - P51.47 to see how they stack up with Manila's prices:
Samsung Q7F 65" $2,299 --> P118,346
LG C7 55" $1,899 --> P97,755

meaning it is way too bright, hindi na makatotohanan ang images and color,
to my eyes, medyo mabigat na ang eye strain nya lalo kung 3 hours kang nakatitig sa kanya,
unlike my previous 75JU7100, then I saw the 82MU8000, this one was perfect,
it was warm to my eyes, and maganda ang color rendition at hindi masakit sa mata,..

Wife wanted to take it home already, sabi ko hintay muna ako ng ilang months,
Black Friday is just around the corner, plus a 30% discount from the wife's work, that would be a nice deal,... ^-^
why does wifey have a 30% discount? does she work in bestbuy? Baka pwede mo naman ako masama at paship na lang dito sa manila :D

No sir, wife is a nurse, and part of her benefit sa hospital na pinagta-trabahuhan nila ng anak ko ay
may discount sila sa kung saan saan na shops, theme parks etc etc,...
And sadly, as much as I want to help you out,
hindi pwede sir, solely for family lang talaga,...

Hi, can you suggest me a bang for the buck tv within the 25-40k range? Atleast 43" and above mainly used for streaming, youtube and some light games. Is it a good time to buy a tv now or wait a little longer till the 2018 models comes out? Maybe the 2016 and 2017 models will drop their prices??
So far, ito pa lang mga na canvass ko.
Sony 49X7500E 40k cash
Sam 55MU6103 37k cash
Sam 55m6300 38k cash
Sharp 50ue630x 39k cash

After much anticipation, I ended up ordering the Samsung UN85JU7100, which is the sibling of my UN75JU7100,
wasn't really impressed with the newer MU8000 series, and I love the JU7100 series, good thing may stock pa nito,
and its a steal ngayong BLACK FRIDAY,..!

Ako naman I got the Sony 75-incher from a (surprise) Lightning Deal over at Amazon where it was priced at $1300 pre-tax.
Even with shipping fees, this is cheaper than the Php130k I see in Manila. Well worth the wait while it's out at sea.. now to pray that it won't have any defect :D

After the screen size, what's the next most important factor in buying a 4K HDR screen?
I'm shopping for a new TV soon, and I'm fixated on getting a "wide color gamut." Am I wrong in this?
As much as possible I want it future-proofed and I'll be sticking with it for at least 6-8 years, fingers crossed that it will last that long.

Future proof means youhave to get the latest and best and biggest model if you have the budget now.

I just recently bought a 4k screen a few months ago. Prior to making my purchase I was hesitant to get a 4k screen, I was initially just looking for a really great 1080p set.
Finding a really great 1080p set today though is an exercise in futility as majority of 1080p sets today are budget models with build quality not fit for the discerning HT enthusiast. So no choice for me but to go 4k.
Made the jump and I think it was a good decision (I wish I had the budget for an OLED TV though)
With more and more devices supporting the 4k format, most recently the Xbox One X, I feel I am more equipped for what's to come in the future.

Look for set that have all the HDR support such as HDR 10, HLG and Dolby Vision...
If you are not inclined in getting an OLED which is considered the best of the best, get the TV that has Full-Array Local Dimming technology (FALD) instead like the Sony X9000 series.

And future proof sometimes mean risking on the technology used by the manufacturer. Minsan the gadget lasts long pero the technology doesn't.

Or the other way around, yun gadget nasira right after the warranty. And it’s cheaper to replace than to repair. Sa recent trend ng mga manufacturers, wala na talaga forever, kahit close to forever. Gadgets are not built to lasts na, unlike before na sobra tibay, sawa ka na eh hi di mo pa mapalitan.
Ang name of the game is buy what is within your budget and intended purpose muna, no need to spend so much on something that will be below the cahin in just a year or two.
-
For me besides 4k to 720p files that i watch, i also considered as a factor to consider the contents lesser than those i mentioned. For this purpose my cheap samsung 65 mu6303 is more than capable for this intention.
-
To be honest with you guys, I never did consider other fancy stuff on any of my TV,
For as long as it preforms well with the source that I feed it, I'm happy... I really don't give much about HDR etc etc,...
I never own a UHD player anyways, all my source still are remux files, the 75JU7100 that I have performed really well,
though it was really pricey when I bought it, and the 85JU7100 then was just clearly out of budget,
and with the performance of the 75, I never did had second thoughts on pulling the trigger on the 85 this black friday,
did not expect that it would be priced at a fraction of my 75,...
My suggestion to my friends, always get the biggest and the best your money can buy,...
^-^
Oh and just to add, I only have 2 requirements sa mga TV na pinipili ko,
High motion rate, which is 240, then hindi masakit sa mata ang picture and color...
Less eyestrain... That’s it...

Go to Settings then General then System Manager from there go to Usage mode and select Home mode.
Btw, Samsung calls it “Retail mode”.

I have a question mga sir, just wanna ask how come when i play a 4k file using my zidoo connected to my onkyo 720 and my samsung k7000 when i press the info on the tv it is always at 1080p only but when i press the info on the file on the zidoo it is a legit 4k file. Even the full 4k blu ray file it is still 1080p on the tv info. Is there something i need to set to make it 4k output.
My hdmi is 4k capable so that is not the culprit.
Your thoughts are most welcome mga sir.

Taking a stab in the dark. the connections of your system is not Clearly described. So your Zidoo is passing the video output through the onkyo? if yes, that might be the culprit.
Zidoo ----(AUDIO and VIDEO) ---> onkyo---->KS7000

Yes sir you are right with my set up. I dont think so because i already tried to isolate the problem by connecting directly the zidoo to the ks7000 and the problem stays the same.
Plus the onkyo rz720 is capable of 4k display passthrough, hdr, dolby vision and hdcp 2.2 compliant.
-
baka sir my setting ang player na ginagamit mo from zidoo..
sakin naman naging problema lang HDMI ko. after ko nagpalit HDMI nag 4k na sya sa tv.
kahit ibang file na 4k same result?

is putting a pressure on the edge of the TV can eliminate/minimize backlight bleeding?this is the most common answer but i can't find any proper demo on how to perform this. found a bleed on my TV in my room.
thank you in advance.

Hello! Wala ko makitang existing topic kaya dito ko na lang ilagay. Last January 2017, nakabili ako ng Sony 43x800D for 32K sa A*enson. Last week, nagkaron ng defect yung unit. Since under warranty pa, pinacheck ko kay Sony Center. Reply sa kin, for replacement na lang daw yung unit sa pinagkunan ko. Ang problema, wala ng 43x800D na available. Ang inooffer sa kin is 43x7500D for 35K or 437007E for 30K. Both models are a downgrade from my TV and an upgrade sa price.

Upon checking, mine is around 720 hours na.

"I'm happy with 4k and not jumping to 8k" is what I'd like to say but then I said the same thing with 1080p to 4k. Haha
But I dont want to imagine the file sizes of remux 8k files when the time comes. My goodness.

sa mga naka-LG 2018 or even older models AT merong 4tb or more na HDDs, nababasa ba yung external HDDs nyo? Sobrang liit na ng 1tb for 4k video files. So I'm thinking of upgrading to a bigger storage sana. Problema, naalala ko years ago, limited to 2tb nababasa ng mga tvs. Not sure if nagbago na now.

nag TV testing ako yesterday. LG, Samsung, Hisense, TCL, Sony nababasa ang 5tb seagate ko.

on another note, usually the 4TB and up hard drives have their own power supplies ... if you're planning to use high capacity drives that do not have their own power supplies, it's better to test on the unit you are planning to buy

it does sir, yung FAT kasi na format has a 4GB maximum size limit, so it will not be good for full HD or 4k videos

Guys your thoughts on Sony x8500f price at 150k more or less for the 75" Mas okay kasi kung mas malaki. on the other hand yung x9000f naman eh nasa 200k+ na more or less nasa 70k ata ang difference nila kaya medyo masakit na.

I saw the x9000f, it's really impressive ... probably best to get it if budget permits ... you can ask sellers here at the market place, they give better pricing but normally cash payment

I'll go with the OLED if that's the case, but at that price are you sure that the 65-inch OLED is not a display unit?

I got myself a Chromecast Ultra yesterday and transferred my original Chromecast to my non-4k TV ... the Chromecast Ultra is intended for 4k TV's ... there's a very noticeable difference in quality from the original one when streaming 4k contents and NBA games via League Pass ... I'm very satisfied with the purchase, it's highly recommended ... one more big difference with the original is that you can connect it via wired Ethernet, hence the network connection is very stable
