Anybody watching this?
I saw the series marathon shown last Maundy Thursday and I was immediately impressed. Shot in high definition, this is not your typical, run of the mill tele-novela; it is a political drama series about a newly-elected idealistic Mayor Santiago in the fictional town of Lagros. He is committed on making reforms in the local government despite the embedded corruption in the system, perpetrated by the incumbent trapos governor of the province of Sibila played by veteran actor Pen Medina.

One surprising aspect of this series is the dialogue exchanges written for the actors sound very natural and don't come as forced (I especially enjoy hearing them whenever Pen delivers his character's lines).
Very timely for the coming elections. Bayan Ko airs every Sunday at 6:30 pm on GMA News TV channel 11.
Kudos to GMA for coming up with a quality program!
-
yup it was deliberately produced to raise the social awareness of the viewing public in time for the elections
-
^ Too bad it is just a six-parter. Hope GMA will produced more series like this instead of pseudo-historical/fantasy dramas ::)
-
I like it so far, cute yun asst ma girl
-
di ba ang galing? buti nga pinalabas nila sa channel 7 nung holy week. mas matino pa ito kesa sa basura nila gabi-gabi na mga soap na walang mapupulot at nakakabobo pa.
reminds me of jesse robredo...sana lang hindi sad ending
-
^it actually is based on his life story...
-
Intriguing. I'll give it a watch. This is the type of series we should be doing more of.

Bayan Ko DVD set is now available in your favorite DVD outlets :)
-
Yup. Saw it on TV as well that its already commercially available. Hope to get one this weekend. Any one here knows the going price?
-
^ Looks like it has two separate sets. Will try to drop by at Astrovision tomorrow.
-
It is a two-volume release with one disc each; 3 episodes per disc, sold separately. You have to shell out P900 to get both volumes. :(
-
may mga bago silang pinapalabas sa GMAnewstv ngayon: Titser starring Lovi Poe. At bukas ng gabi sa GMA, Katipunan starring Sid Lucero.

I bought this today. Needless to say, it's very disappointing to see a non-anamorphic widescreen DVD released in 2013. Bad trip, you need to zoom to fill your 16:9 TV, and doing that crops out the subtitles.
-
^ In this day and age, they authored the discs using non-anamorphic widescreen format? ::) Considering the mini series was filmed utilizing HD cameras, they must be taking the consumers for fools. "Pwede na yan" mentality at its worst. Basta makabenta lang, tsk tsk tsk
-
My sentiments exactly. And I'm the unlucky schmuck who actually bought it.
Glad to report that all the recent ABS-CBN/Star Cinema DVDs I've bought are already anamorphic widescreen. I'm not sure about other GMA releases.
