Continuing the topic from Part 10 (http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php?topic=25320.0), since that thread's 5 years old already, and I'm bored. ;)
It might be nice if you'd post a review or a few words about the DVD you just viewed. It would make the topic a bit more fun to read through. Requested, but not required. ;D

ill go first..
The General's Daughter - also one of Travolta's stunning performance ;)
-
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
-Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Grey and Charlie Sheen were so young not to mention the luscious Mia Sara which was my dream girl then. I find this movie the best that could capture high school life. I realized it was a mistake that I let my daughter watch this. She might get some ideas... :-X
-
Die Hard 4.0 - very good sounds...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 1
First time to watch this, would you believe. Never liked this before. It's campy and teeny bopper still but not bad at all. Has enough humor and action to keep me glued till the 12th episode of the first season. I now know why it received such cult status. I love the final episode! Video is full frame and sound is 2.0 only and it looked pretty good in our conventional TV ( di na ako sa widescreen nanood ).
Angel First Season, episode 1
If Buffy is for teenagers, then Angel is for a more adult audience. Angel is now in LA and has teamed up with The Messenger and a more likeable Cordelia Chase. Angel has some cool weapons and he seemed like a caped crusader super hero. Episode 1 rocks! It has lots of action, kung fu moves, car chase, cool gadgets, pretty gals. I guess I'll be hooked more by this series than I was with Buffy. Video is still full frame and sound is still 2.0 but it's more crisp and bright ( versus Buffy ). Can't wait to watch the rest.

mattia, is your Buffy complete?
It will be a lot more fun and coherent for you if you watch Buffy Season 4 alongside Angel Season 1. Some episodes overlap, either full with characters crossing over to the opposite show for a joint storyline, or sometimes just little things like Buffy receiving a phone call where the caller doesn't speak so she assumes it's a prank call, then later on Angel, there will be a scene where Angel dials a phone number, then can't speak when someone picks up.

Nope. I only have Season 1. When I get hold of other seasons, I will definitely watch. Thanks for the tip! Although I'm not a Buffy fan, I think I can sit through the seasons naman.

Interesting. I like this Joss Whedon guy really.

Finding Nemo 2-Disc Collector's Edition
(http://i36.tinypic.com/286qoox.jpg)
Still enjoyable even on 2nd viewing! (I've seen this the year it was released ;D). It kept me awake till past 11 PM and even wanted to watch the bonus features of the dvd and the commentaries (though I have sneaked through few deleted scenes) but I have to hit the sack for there'll be work early in the morning tomorrow. It amazes me that aside from delicately and intricately drawn animations and graphics, it is fused with very good storyline (well atleast for peeps like me who are young :o uh huh okay... young at heart! :D) and facts and even the small details regarding underwater creatures. Will definitely check the remaining features of the DVD once I have enough time (watching the commentary alone is consuming another 1 hour and 40+ mins). Really love this PIXAR film 8)

Doubt
Powerhouse cast Philip Seymour Hoffman & Meryl Streep turn in solid acting performances, as expected. The last confrontation scene between the two gave me goose bumps. WOW. Definitely engaging despite being a dialogue driven film. Aside from Streep and Hoffman, I was totally impressed with Amy Adams. She can act! This former Hooters girl has really come a long way. If you want good acting, you can't go wrong with this one.

Nirvana Unplugged 5.1 version. - nice audio. Naging All time favorite rock band ko ang Nirvana when they did this concert. Sayang lead vocal Kurt Cobain died already.Actually this concert was set up like a funeral - a special request by KUrt according to producer. Yun pala he's going to die na.
Mostly covers ang kinanta nila that's why super OK. Tindi ng mga lyrics. malalalim ang kahulugan that's why I like this band.

12 Rounds Extreme Cut Edition
Thanks to JohnE and pchin, I watched 12 Rounds last Friday night. I was a bit hesitant because I didn't like John Cena in The Marine. So I gave him another chance.
And surprise surprise, it didn't disappoint. Despite its illogical plot and still dull acting from Cena ( duuhhhl ), this movie is every inch entertaining. If you like the 90s type of action flicks, you can't go wrong with this one. It's a Die Hard 3, Speed, True Lies all rolled into one stunt-happy guilty pleasure of a movie. That car stopping the train scene was cool! PQ and SQ rock! Shines on my widescreen and gave my HT a workout.

Re-watched Transformers The Movie (1986 animated movie) for the 7th time.
For a die hard Transformers fan, this is a very good animated movie. It also serves as a bridge of connection to the continuity of of the Gen 1 series of Transformers (season 2 to season 3).
I really liked the final battle between Optimus Prime (Convoy in Japanese) and Megatron.
Also the sountrack incorporated to the movie is awesome.

My halloween viewings last long weekend:
Drag Me To Hell
Love this. It's been a while since I got some good scares in a movie. Sam Raimi back to what he does best eh? Some surprise ending here. Horror fans will dig this movie.
The Haunted Mansion
Didn't like this when I saw this in the movie years back. But my kids still love it so pwede na din. Some cool cgi effects in here.
Monster House
It's a pretty scary movie for an animation film. I still feel it's too scary for kids but again my kids dig this so what the heck. PQ and SQ rock!
Cassandra's Dream
Not a halloween movie but watched it anyway. My wife had a craving for Colin Farell! Pretty depressing movie directed by Woody Allen. Not one of his strongest entry but watchable still.
Angel Season 1 ( finished up to disc 2 )
With demons and vampires and a guest appearance of Buffy on the 8th episode, this series is indeed great Halloween fun. Still enjoying this series so far.

Basic Instinct 2
Finally found time to watch this. I was really hesitant at first. As it turned out, I should not have watched this, if only to preserve Sharon Stone's original classic thriller Basic Instinct. This one's a real clunker. I should not have even considered buying this dvd. Yuck.
Ang T-Bird at Ako
Bought this on sale at only P99. Na curious lang ako on this Nora-Vilma movie. I tried playing it to check on a few scenes at walang planong panoorin kagabi. Surprise! Mula opening scene, I got hooked and finished till about 1am. Pacing is fast. Dialogues are crisp and witty. Some fine acting from Ate Guy and Gov. Vi. The best performances, for me, came from Tommy Abuel, Odette Khan & (the late) Dindo Fernando. DVD is a single layer and in fullscreen though. For only P99, this one's a real treasure.

Say Anything
Despite my being an 80s pop culture fanatic, I've never seen this film before, and this DVD has been sitting on my shelf for years. I saw an article about the film's 20th anniversary in EW about two weeks ago, so I decided to give it a shot.
Total chick flick, and unlike other films from the era, it feels very dated, at least to me. I can't see teenagers relating to it in this present day.
-

Pom Poko - Another excellent Studio Ghibli film. An effective cautionary tale on environmental destruction.
-

-
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
-maybe this is the 3rd time I've watched this but I still enjoy it everytime. The visual effects and vibrant colors can keep your toddler glued to the screen of your HDTV. I like this version better than the original Willy Wonka maybe because of the more advanced special effects and better video quality not to mention Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore's exemplary performances. ;)
-
The Hottie and the Nottie
-had a few chuckles. Was looking for the hottie in the whole movie. ;D Oh so it was Paris Hilton....don't they have other options? ??? :P
-
Boondock Saints - critics are divided on this one and the film thrives on a small but loyal fan base. I choose to remain neutral since it's an enjoyable film, just not quite sure if i'd want to watch it again. Think Guy Ritchie with a religious twist to it.
-
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
-The movie was geared mostly on producing such amazing special effects without much emphasis on the story. It's the CGI that kept me glued to the screen. The robot fight scenes were just stupendous. Megan Fox concentrated more on looking seductive rather a heroine to save the day. Surround sound was great and I enjoyed every minute of it. Trully a popcorn movie that will give your HT a workout. What do you expect....it's a Michael Bay movie. ;)
-
The Terminal (Tom Hanks)
I love this movie... tom hanks and catherine zeta jones... there is always goodness in the heart of every people... but never expected that this movie was directed by steven spielberg...
Waterworld (Kevin Costner)
one of my favorite before....
-
Romy & Michele's High School Reunion
-Some people who try to be somebody else in a reunion might relate to this movie. One thing I've learned is just to be yourself and not acting somebody you're not. Great 80's music soundtrack. Good thing Kudrow who perfected acting dumb and Sorvino who's good at acting smart starred in this movie. They are just hilarious together. ;D
-
Monsters Inc.
-Never get tired watching this movie with my kids. Trully a visual treat! ;)
-
Coraline
-The characters in that other perfect world who had buttons as their eyes which was really disturbing. I thought my 6 year old daughter would be spooked out but she liked it. Maybe she can relate with Coraline who has parents glued to their PCs. ;D The stop motion animation was distracting and would make you think there is something wrong with your player or the DVD. The movie had the same director Henry Selick who did "The Nightmare Before Christmas" so you'll know what to expect. The DVD comes with a 3D version but personally I'd stick to the classic 2D.

Romy & Michele's High School Reunion
I can't believe the 2005 prequel to this, Romy and Michele: In The Beginning, still hasn't seen a DVD release, particularly since it stars Katherine Heigl as Romy. You'd think the producers would want to cash in on her post-Grey's Anatomy success, as well as on the first film's cult status.
-
Bordertown
A true story about crimes committed against women laborers in Mexico. Stars a blonde and quite chubby Jennifer Lopez. My, did she shoot this after giving birth? When she runs around, her bulges were bouncing here. Also stars Antonio Banderas with a funny looking hairdo and Martin Sheen as JLo's boss. The script was okay but pretty loose and the movie kinda lost steam in the second half.
Watched the C-Interactive dvd9 version and was very impressed with the PQ. It was definitely hi-def and crisp. One of the best I've seen in DVD. Bitrate here might be hovering between 8 to 9mpbs.

Fine performances by Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Cool soundtrack - Billie Holiday, Otis Taylor & Diana Krall! Booming gun fights. But nothing really happens much except that Dillinger robs banks, Purvis chases Dillinger and Dillinger falls in love with a girl. Not a memorable Michael Mann film for me.
Flight of the Phoenix
Watchable popcorn movie despite all the negative criticisms. DVD collected dust in my collection but it's not at all that bad really. I'd have to see the original though.
30 Rock Season 1 Episodes 1 to 3
What can I say? This show Rocks! Love it. From Tina Fey's opening "wiener" adventure to her "If I'm the President of the Philippines" punchline, I'd say this series is truly entertaining. And of course, long live Tracy Jordan!!

Enough action and tension to keep me glued and entertained. Despite the flimsy script, I found it highly watchable due to bankable actors like Travolta, Denzel, Gandolfini and Turturro.
Days of Thunder
Finally watched this, for the first time I think. Mixed feelings about the movie. The races are fun to watch though. A young Tom Cruise is still flamboyant and gung ho and Nicole Kidman is still curly tops here. The Mello Yello sponsor ad brings back memories. Soundtrack is somewhat 80s. Audio is superb and gave my HT a workout again.
When the credits rolled, I realized that both films were directed by Tony Scott.

30 years on, this remains one of the best tragically sad "horror" movies out there. pino donaggio's score of the movie remains a favorite. it'll take at least another 18 or so years before another movie score comes along with the same emotional whallop, imo, which was john williams' schindler's list.

I also love this movie specially during Christmas season. Are you asking about how Sinbad's acting career went or what happened to him in the movie? ;D

I actually have the answer to that: He's cast in the 2010 edition of THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE:

Kindergarten Cop
-I am always a fan of Arnold Schwarzennegger and this movie lies low on the action and brings out the softer side of him. Imagine a gargantuan teacher teaching the youngest and cutest students in school. John Kimble (Schwarzenegger) soon realizes that muscle is not needed to control these little freaks but more on caring and understanding. He becomes soft when he met a co-teacher (Penelope Anne Miller) who also happens to be a mother of one of his students. They have good chemistry by the way including Pamela Reed who posed as Ahhnold's sister from Austria. Her accent was good and funny.
The movie was well presented...light and bubbly. This just proved that Scwharzenneger can also do comedy not just high adrenaline action movies. Highly recommended!
-
House
-it started out as 2 couples got lost and sought refuge in the Wayside Inn. The house was not as normal as it seems and eventually each person is confronted with their past sins and guilts. When I was watching this, I never had any idea that this movie was based on a book written by Christian authors. Looking back, there wasn't not much cussing as expected from a horror movie. Honestly, I have watched better horror movies than this. Scare factor really depends on your "fraidy cat" meter.
-
The History Channel-Ancient Aliens
-documentary is entertaining and at the same time makes you wonder that aliens have really visited us as early as ancient times. They have left symbols in the desert, statues in easter island, some writings inside the pyramids and stonehenge. A lot of these incredible phenomena cannot be explained by just logic. The presence of aliens and advanced technology cannot be discounted. The interviewees even had references in the Bible proving that aliens indeed visited us long ago.
Documentaries such as these really piques my interest. For those geeks and nerds like me who love the Discovery and History Channels must watch this. Very intriguing indeed!

-Got the focus of showing young Valdemort but just can't get over with so much attention on the love story. Never read the book so I have nothing to compare here. Personally, the movie in itself is disappointing and dragging. I can't see the reason why this movie garnered good reviews. HP fans...spare me. Year One
-Obnoxiously funny Jack Black coupled with Michael Cera as a muttering wallflower had a weird chemistry together but hit it well off. I wouldn't recommend it as a family movie though with Black always wanting to have sex with women. Biblical stories were spoofed which might be offensive to some Christians. Nevertheless, it is a shallow & mindless comedy which would appeal to Black and Cera's fans.

The Taking of Pelham 123
-Why is New York always the city picked upon by terrorist in movies to carry out their dastardly plans? Large population density and the bumper to bumper traffic is just perfect to execute plans with a deadline. Very exemplary performances of Denzel Washington and John Travolta. Travolta really does really well as the villain. Still remember Swordfish? The moustache adds to the sly look. The movie is fast-paced and gripping but I expected more from the ending. :-\ Nevertheless, a very good edge of the seat thriller. ;)
-
District 9
-something different from the usual sci-fi flicks we've been watching. Start of the movie catches our interest with the aliens being refugees in Johannesberg. Somehow we always think that the aliens are the dominating and violent species but in this movie it just shows the other way around. I like how it was presented and becomes interesting enough to stick it to the end. :D

-better viewed the 2nd time in my plasma. The colors were so vibrant. Very good demo material for flat screen TVs. Carl is just too strong for a 78 year old. I can give Russel the credit though for giving comic relief and adding light to a depressing cartoon. I just can't understand why that explorer guy Muntz aged slowly being still alive even when Carl was already old. ??? After all has been said, it is still an enjoyable and entertaining Pixar movie. ;D
-
G-force
-Don't be misled by the guinea pigs as heroes and say this is one of those animal movies for kids. The guinea pigs are combat trained commando spies on a mission to save the world. Talk about Mission Impossible ala Ratatouille. Superb surround sound which goes as well as the action. That spinning ball vehicle scene was indeed action packed and funny. Adding human emotions and character to these rodents were really exemplary. Penelope Cruz's sultry voice in Juarez was just delightful. It's a Bruckheimer movie so it must be good! ;D

Star Trek
-the appearance of Leonard Nimoy was a blast from the past series but I am just bothered with the way he talked. Most of the time he gobbles up his words. Must be a case of bad dentures. Futuristic effects were good. Never was a fan of the series or previous movies either but this version is much appreciated maybe with the better visuals and audio treatment. I can't comment about its trueness to the original story though. I was surprised that the head of the Romulans was casted by Eric Bana. The fight scene in the giant drill platform was breathtaking. Zachary Quinto (Cyler of Heroes) as Spock was just perfect. I just thought Spock was emotionless...so what about that attraction with Uhura? Maybe Sheldon of Big Bang theory might review this movie differently. Personally, this was an enjoyable ride. ;)
-
Terminator Salvation
-so this is the aftermath after Skynet has killed most humans leaving a few rebels to fight the machines and end their rule. Firepower and earthshaking explosions are present as with all Terminator movies but I just don't find this as entertaining as the 3 previous ones or maybe...I just expected too much. Christian Bale's good acting and CGI effects uplifted the movie a notch. I missed Ahhhnuld. :-\

-
Paranormal Activity
-the amateur cam trick was great in making the movie seem realistic but after watching Blair Witch...this isn't anything spectacular. It is just so ironic that at the start of the movie they said thanks for those who provided the video and at the end credits it stated all of the characters are fictitious. What a party pooper! That guy's macho crap reaction to the weird and creepy activities was just too overacting. IMHO, this movie is overrated. :P

-Fantastic performances and excellent storyline plus the moving soundtrack will surely make you cry...I did! (http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/traurig/sad-smiley-001.gif) Haven't watched such an exquisitely done modern fairytale movie for a long time. I would love to watch this movie again and again. A brilliant masterpiece. (http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aktion/action-smiley-033.gif)
"Music is all around us--all we have to do is listen."

Fireproof
-this is not another Ladder 51 or Backdraft movie but a movie about relationships and faith in God. This is a Christian movie so expect non mainstream actors except for Kirk Cameron. The acting is a bit amateur and the video seemed like it was taken from a personal HD cam but inspite of these, it's the message that really matters. A perfect gift to couples who are on the verge of breaking up. I love the soundtrack specially "While I'm Waiting". This movie just might change your relationship and your life....
"Never leave your partner behind."
-
Beyond a Reasonable Doubt
-The movie was a good thriller on the initial watch. But on recap, I realized that the plot was stupid and those who took the roles of CJ (Jesse Metcalfe) and Corey (Joel Moore) were perfect for the "Romy and Michelle" characters. ;D According to them, their plan was well thought of but they were dumb enough to miss out that they too have a powerful and influential adversary...a smooth lawyer (Michael Douglas) vying for a gubernatorial bet. If you have incriminating evidence on a DVD, I would've made at least 10 copies of it. Only 2 copies? C'mon! Would it be easier to just back up the video in flash drives? The surprise ending just confirmed the major loophole in their plan.
This thriller is both fun to watch and criticize. :P
-
This is It
-This behind the scenes production of his supposed to be upcoming comeback concert. You just can see a genius in action from the melody of the songs, the dance sequences, props where he has a hand on everything. Too bad this concert didn't push through because of his demise. This could've been his biggest show ever with all the grandiose fireworks, pyrotechnics and effects. MJ is just too spectacular worthy to be named the King of Pop. Goodbye Michael! (http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/dancing/michael-jackson.gif)

Cliffhanger - wanted to watch this after getting to see Stallone in Over the Top. Overall, the film did not entirely center on Stallone being the ultimate hero. Thus, I got to see the different perspectives of each character in play.
10 Things I Hate About You - been a while since i last watched it. The father's hilarious!
"I've got news for you. I'm down, I've got the 411, and you are not going out and getting jiggy with some boy, I don't care how dope his ride is. Mamma didn't raise no fool."
"My insurance does not cover PMS!"
Jennifer's Body - swayed by a good review I've read, film offers nothing more but "Megan's Body". no loss here. :) Amanda Seyfried looked hotter imo.
-
Anaconda Enough action to keep me glued till credits rolled. The snake was pretty scary but looked fake most of the time.
Surrogates Wasn't thoroughly impressed. Aside from a great car chase scene, there's nothing really in this movie to involve me. I thought it's a forgettable flick that left me cold.
Star Trek (2009) I was never a Star Trek fan back in the day. But I must admit that Star Trek 2009 was a hugely entertaining movie. There are so many enjoyable material to be had here. Great sci fi film!
Tropic Thunder Laugh out loud movie, just don't take it seriously. Great action, too. Kudos to Ben Stiller who directed this movie. That Tom Cruise dance was a total blast!!

30 Rock Season 1 Finished watching season 1. Awesome awesome series. Love it. Liz Lemon rocks! Tracy Jordan rocks! JD (Alex Baldwin) rocks! Everybody rocks in this show. That secretary is hot.
Numbers Season 1 Finally done with season 1. Got stalled for a while for some reason. Started out pretty well then lost interest in some middle episodes but loved the last few. I'm not a math wiz but I like this show. Will definitely watch Season 2 ( which I also have but haven't opened yet ).
The Unit Season 1 Same as Numbers, I was never into it for the first half but I thought action and story picked up in the second half. I love it now. Got to get hold of season 2!
True Blood Season 1, first 3 episodes Is it worth all the hype? Well, i guess it was. Pretty solid show. A different take on Vampires. That male vamp (not the lead) look awfully disturbing. Aside from sexy Sookie, there are lots to love about this show ( the nudity and love scenes!! ).
-
White Noise
- I have passed this movie so many times and this is the only time that I really sat down to watch it. At the start it is hard to decipher the raw audio coming from the EVP and it's a good thing it was transcribed. There were some jump out of your seat scenes as expected but nothing extraordinary. Does EVP really exist? Even if it's real...I don't buy it.

Heroes Season 3 Disc 3

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl
-if you have watched Spykids 3D then you would immediately notice the similar video treatment and CGI effects. The style...real characters in surrealistic and animated backgrounds made to stand out in 3D. Although the DVD came in with 2D and 3D versions, watching it in 2D was good enough. Wearing the bundled 3D glasses won't give you anything but a headache & blurry vision. Obviously didn't last the whole movie with those. The colors and visuals are entertaining enough for young audiences. I thought all the while that Sharkboy (Taylor Laughtner) was Ernie Reyes Jr. (http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/ashamed/ashamed0002.gif)

Dorian Gray
- The gist: A young man who trades his soul to the devil in exchange for eternal youth and beauty. Very good acting of Ben Barnes smoothly performing the role from a soft spoken, mild mannered gentleman to a seductive charmer then to a more sinister and evil character. This is a dark movie set in 19th century London- Gothic and creepy. There are some nudity but was shot artistically. If you love Tim Burton's masterpieces then this might be your cup of tea. Picture perfect.

Elizabethtown - I've always been biased with Cameron Crowe's movies. Maybe it's the music & the images that evoked classic rock album covers like Time Fades Away in Almost Famous & The Freewheeling Bob Dylan in Vanilla Sky. Or maybe I'm simply a sucker for the sentimentality of his films (Jerry Maguire afterall is a love story for men). When this came out in 2005, this was panned by a lot of critics but to quote Russel Hammond of Stillwater "We play for the fans, not for the critics". Need I say more?

Surrogates
-My interest would go for scifi movies involving the future rather than those concerning outer space and this movie caught my fancy. While watching this movie, I remembered Schwarzenneger's the 6th day but I realized that the concept would resemble Avatar more. This involves robots or younger looking and aesthetically pleasing surrogates that would replace human beings/operators in doing their daily work. A very nice and interesting concept of the future where the streets would be populated by robots and that if you come out as yourself, then you would be out of the norm. I just noticed that the texture of the surrogates from the start really looked like CG-enhanced mannequins but as the movie goes, they looked more human. Was there inconsistency on the make up or CG effects on the whole movie or my eyes just adapted and accepted the surrogates as real people towards the end? Bruce Willis as the star of the movie was a good come on for people to watch this. Even with his age I can still say he can still kick ass like John McClane. I am a Bruce Willis fan so definitely this is a keeper! (http://62.0.5.134/l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/113.gif)

I've seen both versions of Ocean's 11, and you really can't compare the two. Yung latest version, parang name lang naman ang ginamit and the basic idea. Funnier for me yung kay Frank Sinatra, and medyo mas believable. Mas entertaining in a techy sense yung bago.

-ultimate disaster movie to date. The effects were just astounding. Humans are just so helpless when mother nature gets back at them. Made me think if at this moment are there arks being built in someplace remote? California coastline diving in the ocean, tsunamis, the earth opening up and swallowing whole skyscrapers were just overwhelming. I'm sorry guys but I am just a sucker for disaster movies. No plot just pure brute mayhem and destruction. Had my wife watching beside me and man was she sobbing. While she delved in the depressing parts I just adored the CGI special effects. This is one movie you will talk about after watching it. So intense!!! Repent for the end is near! (http://www.iconwild.com/smilies/scared/scared-smiley-002.gif)

-I love Mike Myers eversince Wayne's World, Austin Powers and So I Married an Axe Murderer but I personally think that this is his worst movie ever. Where the Wild things Are
-Is this movie for kids? I just find it weird if they marketed this one for the young. It'll just might stick in their minds that you can just run away to a faraway land with fairytale creatures if you don't like your family. I just find it strange how those creatures had good American accents. The movie is depressing and boring. (http://planetsmilies.net/tired-sleeping-smiley-4638.gif)

Twilight! :D
-
Armored
-the story is a cliché heist thriller but packing it with a very good cast such as Lawrence Fishburn, Matt Dillon, Jean Reno, Skeet Ulrich makes it worth the watch. The story was predictable but fun. Matt Dillon as Mike, the mastermind of the $42 million robbery has been very good in acting such characters concocting evil plans. The key here is the casting of newcomer Columbus Short as Ty, a decorated war veteran, was in on the plan until he suddenly developed a conscience. He used the armored car as his panic room. ;D The armored car chase scene was a first but wasn't interesting enough. They looked like bulky brutes in a roller derby. The Austin Minis of the Italian Job was more fun to watch. This movie is a testosterone packed, edged of the seat popcorn flick. A perfect plan is always far from perfect. Enjoyed it! ;)

Yep, it's a cheesy, somewhat incredulous romantic comedy about ghosts but I still am entertained. Still hits me, I don't know why. Now let's sing the star spangled banner again with BB King!

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
-the werewolves vs. vampire concept was interesting enough but I just felt that this would be more appealing to teenage girls with the human-vampire-werewolf love triangle plot and the numerous half naked guy scenes. There were less of Edward this time and this gave Jacob (Taylor Lautner) the opportunity to shine. I must commend on the stunning visuals and rocking surround sound. Maybe I would've enjoyed this better if I read the books. CHEEZY!!!! (http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/ashamed/ashamed0007.gif)

The Fantastic Mr. Fox
-this movie was shown in stop motion animation which looked like it was lifted from a children's book. The animation was distracting at first and have tempted me to look for another movie to watch. I just stuck to it because of my kids and as it went on I was entertained with the funny scenes which would be really humorous in the method that it was presented. It had a great cast with the voices of George Clooney as the witty Mr. Fox and adding Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Willem Dafoe. I was sure that the voice of Kristofferson was Michael Cera's but I was wrong. This movie will be enjoyed by both kids and adults. Highly recommended! ;D
-
The Fourth Kind
-another movie that goes with the tradition of movies such as Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity. This one though looked more realistic albeit some of its flaws.
1.The policeman Abel acted weird in that when her daughter disappeared, the policeman was blaming her for everything that happened to his family and patients even with the video evidence up to the point of arresting her. How could this guy pass the police force.
2.Obviously at the end of the interview, there was a doubt of its realism because the camera panned out and revealing Dr. Tyler in a wheelchair paralyzed. Well, it was effective enough to produce some aahs.
3.I was expecting that all of the characters were fictitious but it wasn't shown in the credits.
4.Striking though is the face of Dr. Tyler during the interview. She looked like that the experience left her a living corpse. Good enough to scare you from the start. She looked anemic and a blood transfusion would be helpful.
The side by side presentation of the “actual” footage and the re-enacted one was a first.
Creepy and disturbing. Is the movie real as it was presented? Yes...no...whatever...it was entertaining.
-
Couples Retreat
-if couples watched this together, the result would be a realization of one's problematic marriage or it might be therapeutic. Just a warning that there would be scenes that would make a couple watching this uncomfortable. There were some really belly aching scenes such as that macho guy teaching yoga, Jay Reno's gifting of the animal spirits and maybe Vaughn's over reaction to a teeny weeny shark bite i.e. if it was really one. The Eden Paradise was just breathtaking. Definitely would look good with the next sequel of Into the Blue. There were some scenes that bored me specially the therapy sessions. Maybe the enjoyment you would get from this movie is how it strikes you personally. I wonder how single people would react to this movie though.

Perfect Strangers: The Complete First & Second Seasons
-I just watched the 2nd season and Cousin Larry and Balky were a barrel of laughs. I just noticed that Balky is just strong lifting Larry all the time. The "of course don't be ridicilous" line of Balky though was overused and watching through the series makes it less funny as he keeps on saying it. Mr. Twinklesettee was also funny with all his sarcasm. I love the skiing episode. Just reliving the 80's. ;)

Earth 2100
-What would be the earth on the year 2100 if we continue to overpopulate our earth and abuse its resources? This was presented as a documentary with a story of Lucy, born 2009 who grew in this world which was long abused by us and is experiencing the devastating effects of global warming, overpopulation, etc. Disaster movies we've watched such as The Day After Tomorrow would really happen and wouldn't give a warning for us to prepare. It will just happen. Imagine the Dark Ages all over again....chaos, no electricity, no communications and no internet! (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/109.gif)
This is a very depressing and scary movie of the future. It prevented me from going to the mall and use airconditioning after watching this. But...I still took a bath. Init eh! (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/14.gif)

Crossing Over
-I bought this dvd because of its great casting: Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta (in his fatest) & Ashley Judd. It is a movie about illegal immigration in the US and its realism not only how illegal aliens try all means to be legitimate but also how government agents/agencies deal with the situation. I just find Alice Eve cute & hot with some topless and nude scenes with Liotta. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/65.gif) The movie was presented with intersecting storylines and it just shows how people would do anything to live the American dream. An interesting watch! (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/1.gif)
-
Funny People
-I expected this movie to be funny in reference to the title but it was more of drama than it was funny. Somehow the stand-up comedy wasn't as uproariously hilarious as expected. The presence of Adam Sandler (as George Simmons, a rich well known comedian) as the lead role didn't help a bit either in the funny moments but was good in the drama. Seth Rogen starred as Ira, Simmons' assistant. I even enjoyed the the lawn fight of Eric Bana, Sandler and Rogen better. There were lots of cursing and references to dicks, balls, masturbating in the stand up comedy lines. It was just nice to see the big house of a rich comedian with all its automations, the garden, and all of his cars. Having 3 wall mounted flat screen TVs in one wall. WOW! (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/13.gif). A plus though was a short part by James Taylor. I'm a fan of Adam Sandler but this movie fell short of my expectations. I haven't seen this movie, pero I think it's great that they cast Morgan Freeman as Mandela. You can see the similarities kahit walang prosthetics. Kahit nung hindi ko pa alam kung tungkol saan yung movie, nahulaan ko na kaagad na Freeman was portraying Mandela.

Ninja Assassin
-the 1st 30 minute gore and dismemberment galore just gives you a preview that this movie isn’t for the faint hearted. It was nice to see Sho Kosugi, an icon of 80’s ninja movies coming back. Korean actor “Rain” wasn’t bad himself although he looked a lot different with the actor playing the young Raizo. A lot of the scenes were dark because of the ninja’s fighting environment but the lighting was just enough to appreciate the action. There was a scene were the chain knife looked like it would almost go out of the screen. A 3D treatment would put the icing on the cake. The effects now are better than previous ninja movies because of CGI but I just find the blood ketchupy. Nevermind the story as it never deviated from previous plots of revenge, redemption and fulfilment of one’s own destiny. The scenes were just AWESOME!!! TOTAL CARNAGE! Speaking of Adam Sandler...
My wife & I found Reign Over Me in the bargain bins a couple of weeks ago & was able to watch it just last night.
This is a serious & offbeat role for him & he did fine. Plus the Bob Dylan "Blonde On Blonde" album cover appearance was really cool.
And of course, what would an Adam Sandler movie like without music? It was awesome man - Graham Nash's "Simple Man" opened the film then there's Springsteen's "Out In The Street", Pretender's "Stop Your Sobbing", Jackson Browne's "The Birds Of St. Marks" & Eddie Vedders version of The Who's "Love Reign Over Me".

ok din naman pero talagang kelangan may suspension of disbelief as I wouldn't buy Mulan being able to hide her identity after 12 years of commanding an entire army. ::) plus, masyadong maganda si Zhou not to be noticed as a woman! but it's also reminiscent of the same role she potrayed in Red Cliff! :D

Astroboy
-the presentation was fast paced, never a dull moment with very good surround sound. The 3 dumb robot revolutionaries were just so funny. I also loved the Robot Games where Astro has to fight different killer robots. I have noticed some themes though that weren't so suitable for young kids such as the rejection of Astro by his father and showing the kids having fun in an environment without any parents. I have seen Astroboy when I was a kid but never get to watch and finish and episode. I just dunno the trueness of the story to the original one but I enjoyed this. Chariot of Fire
One of my favorite best picture movie. Great lessons and principles in life... "In everything we do put God first" and He will do the rest. Sunday is for God, we must never substitute it to any activity.
As a result of having insufficient time for both running and rugby, he chose the former, aiming for the 100 meters in the Paris Olympics. When he learned that the heats were to be run on a Sunday, he switched to the 400 metre competition as he was not prepared to run on a Sunday. He won a gold medal for the 400 metres and a bronze medal for the 200 metres at the Paris Olympics.

Same here. I love watching movies in 3D but my first full length attempt at home viewing gave me headaches too. I also didn't like that the red and blue hues dominated the colors. I watched some scenes in 2D and I liked it more because at least, the colors are alive. Anyway, I got the C-Interactive release and so far, impressed na ko sa new releases nila. The 3D glasses are made in US pa.

Pretty watchable bollywood film. Performances are okay and the soundtrack is nice. Watched the film in two installments since I fell asleep halfway. But yeah, managed to sit through the credits. It's a movie that's nice to to watch ONCE. Not really a keeper for me. PQ was very good as well as SQ.
Married Life
"Do you know what really goes on in the mind of the person with whom you sleep?"
Cool plot and good acting from Chris Cooper ( one of my fave actors ), Pierce Brosnan and Rachel Mcadams. Clever script. Would have been better if there were more love scenes and half naked scenes ( hahaha ). I like it. Entertaining, provocative and, despite the somewhat twisted plot, it has a happy ending. PQ shines! SQ is okay considering it's a dialogue driven film.
Atonement
Started out slowly and boring but picked up halfway. Cinematography is excellent. I love those sweeping shots of the English countryside. Shines perfectly on my screen. Keira Knightley is hot! It's a romatic tale not for everyone. Some might be disappointed in the ending. PQ is above average. Musical scoring is also very good.

Somewhere in Time (for the nth time)
Love the story. The period-piece costumes are amazing. It makes me feel like I'm really back in 1912 and I never get tired of traveling back in time with Christopher Reeve to see Jane Seymour. :D :D
I also love the haunting musical score. Rachmaninoff's variation from a theme by Paganini is one of my all-time favorites. :)

Still an awesome series. I love the twist at the end. Glenn Close again delivering fine acting as the shrewd Patty Hewes.
Blade The Series, first 3 episodes
Surprisingly engaging! I got hooked on the first three episodes. Sticky Fingaz as Blade ain't bad. He's more good looking than Wesley ;D And Jill Wagner is HOT! Action scenes and explosions are pretty cool.
OT -- there's some navigation defect in the dvd and there's a rather long pause due to layer transition! then i realized it's a C-Interactive release. that's why. but PQ and SQ are above average for a C release

Fincher's attention to details is unbelievable. Great ensemble acting - Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downer Jr., Mark Ruffalo etc. I haven't purchased the director's cut but will surely include it in my priority list.
Fight Club is still Fincher's best, however I still can't decide between Se7en & this one as his 2nd best!

Alice in Wonderland
-A fairytale with a modern twist with lots of CGI and effects. It elevated Tim Burton’s creations another level. The visuals (chesthire car, jabberwocky) sounds were just astounding. Johnny Depp loon personality was very fit for the role of the Mad Hatter. Aussie actress Mia Wasikowsky wasn’t mainstream but was just perfect. I love the movie. ;D

The Blind Side
- I watched this alone and it really had a great impact on me. It was nice to know that there are still some people who still have Christian virtues intact to help others in need. The movie had a lot of morals and is a must see. Sandra Bullock had an exemplary performance with that motherly role. A very nice heartwarming family movie that made me cry specially the end credits with pictures showing the real Michael Oher. Oh I see.... (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/46.gif)

Clear & Present Danger
-
Legion
-one bad ass action movie with lots of gunfire and gore. The grandmother and the ice cream man was just scaringly funny. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/21.gif) The story isn’t really bibilical but it was laid out to create a scenario for some popcorn entertainment. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/41.gif)

Corky Romano
-this movie never fails to make me laugh. Chris Kattan was just hysterically funny. I don’t know if he’s effeminate or gay but the important thing is …he delivers! (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/113.gif)

American Werewolf in Paris
-As American Werewolf in London was a classic, this movie is not in any way in relation to the former. Maybe the producers think that riding on the title of the classic will sell this movie. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/23.gif). You couldn’t decipher if this is a horror, comedy or both. Tom Everett Scott’s "alaskado" face (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/35.gif) and Julie Delpy’s pretty face can be a reason to drag you to to the end. Paris is not really a haven for lycantropes and I just find this a trying hard wanna be werewolf flick. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/7.gif)
-
Mr. Bean the Movie
-this is a part of the boxset and after watching the Bean episodes why not watch a full length Bean movie. There were some scenes which are just rehashed Bean slapstick specially after watching his short episodes. But the movie can stand on its own without you watching any of the series. An ultimate laugh trip. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/24.gif)
-
Mr. Bean Holiday
-Watched this after watching Bean the Movie. This really deserves a repeat viewing. I find this funnier than the previous movie. There were lots of hilarious scenes which were worth watching again and again…bean’s operatic rendition, bean eating raw seafood in the French resto, bean joining the shooting of a commercial wearing a German military outfit among others. This is a classic! (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/4.gif)

The Golden Compass.
Very good fantasy movie, without the religious controversy from the source material ("The Northern Lights" book by Philip Pullman). I also watched the movie with the director's commentary (very funny and entertaining!) and watched all the special features in Disc 2. Ang ganda :)
-
The Wolfman
-the setting was in old England to add to the authenticity of the story complete with the mist rising above the city and landscapes. Although the setting was right, I just find the story and the scenes dragging. Benicio del Toro looked like a werewolf even without the makeup perfect for the role. The funny thing is the werewolf wrestling match at the end that looked like it was choreographed by WWE. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/21.gif)

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief
-I wasn't expecting much on a movie with some teenagers as protagonists brought back to mythological times were gods, demi-gods and beasts were present. Thought to myself that it's another Narnia wannabe. I cannot comment in its trueness to the book but it was a good watch...not as good though for a repeat viewing. Narnia still is my fave when it comes to these types of movies. ;)

Yes, Jodie Foster started her career at a very young age - at 3 years old. TV commercial yata muna and then eventually sa movies. Matagal na nga yan Candleshoe - it's from 1977. She made several movies for Disney.. that's how i first came to know of her. Mahilig kasi ako manood ng Disney movies noong bata pa ako (actually, hanggang ngayon naman). ;D Kaya familiar ako kay Jodie Foster even before Bugsy Malone or Taxi Driver.

The Rundown
-Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Seann William Scott were just funny together.
"Hey, remember your friend, Mr. Thunder? How 'bout his buddy, Mr. Lightning? Ooh, I know you know him. You know him real well, don't ya?"
Ernie Reyes Jr. is older from the last time I watched him....TNMT II??? He has some cool moves in this movie with so much energy.
"What is that? That's like spinning Tarzan jujitsu?"
-
National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1
-this is a replay viewing after last watching it in VHS. Imagine Samuel Jackson and Emilio Estevez doing a cheesy comedy following the tradition of Naked Weapon, Top Secret and Hot Shots. There were spoofs of Die Hard, Basic Instinct, Silence of the Lambs, etc and if you haven't watched these movies, you wouldn't get the pun. Cameos included Bruce Willis, Whoopi Goldberg, Charlie Sheen and Chips' Erik Estrada. It is still funny but was funnier though when the spoofed movies were still fresh. ;)

Postcards From The Edge
Dr. Frankenthal (Richard Dreyfuss) : Would you maybe like to go out with me sometime? Catch a movie or something?
Suzanne (Meryl Streep): Sure. We can go see "Valley of the Dolls." We'll say fate brought us together. (Valley of the Dolls is one of the first movies of Richard Dreyfuss.)
My first time to see this movie and I love it. Very entertaining. It's peppered with witty lines and comedic turns all throughout. Dialogue driven but never boring. Powerhouse cast led by Meryl Streep and Shirley Maclaine. Learned that Streep used her own voice in the two song numbers. Man, I didn't know she can sing that good! No wonder she was casted in Mamma Mia.
For a 20 year old movie, I'd rate the video quality as very good. Sound is average. No HT workout but who needs that when you're busy listening to the script and jokes.
This DVD is a keeper for me. I got this from a sale for less than P100 so it's a real steal!

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
percy jackson dont really care for his mother base sa ipinakitang emotion after niyang malaman na hindi pala panaginip ang lahat and to think na nawala ang mother niya before his eyes.
-
In the Army Now
-Bones (Pauly Shore) and his friend Jack (Andy Dick) applying and joining as an army reserve for the perks and salary. They chose the most menial job of water purification hoping to have an easy way but unexpectedly was assigned to a war in Chad, Africa.
Whatever the plot is, Pauly Shore can make you laugh all the way. Andy Dick was funny as well specially getting naked in the middle of a desert after seeing a mirage. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/21.gif) Definitely of high replay value. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/15.gif)
"We're the few. The proud. The WATERBOYS! "
-
Wayne's World 2
-I first loved Mike Myers in Wayne's World. The comedy is of a different tune but funny and original only Mike Myers can deliver. There were a lot of cameos such as Kim Basinger which is by the way sizzling in this movie. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/38.gif) Tia Carrere is sultry as ever. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/9.gif) Included here is poker faced Christopher Walken as the producer snatching Cassandra (Carrere) from Wayne. And of course don't forget Aerosmith as the guest band in this sequel. Lots of funny scenes such as the classic “we're not worthy”, the dubbed kungfu fight of Wayne with Cassandra's dad and the Village people stint of Wayne and friends at a gay bar. Stupid movie but can garner a lot of guffaws. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/24.gif)

The Last Samurai
Perhaps Edward Zwick's best film since Glory.
A lot of criticism was hurled due to this film's ending. I'm not a critic but felt the same way - Algren should've just died during the battle.
Despite it's flaws, it's a film that merits repeated viewings.

The Family Man
I finally watched it again after 10 years, and it hasn't lost it's magic. Very funny and at the same time very heart-warming. The "What if" idea has been done many times before, but is executed really well here. Fun and deep, highly recommended :) I absolutely disagree with the Rotten Tomatoes critics that this is too sentimental and predictable. Try it and see if you can predict what happens ;)
The local region-3 DVD is from C-Interactive. The box only says "Dolby Digital 5.1" but the disc actually has a DTS track as well. Also the box only lists "widescreen edition" as special feature, but there are a lot of deleted scenes and bloopers, a beautiful music video by Seal, director's commentary, wallpapers, etc. Video quality is superb, one of the best I've seen (using my Philips 5986k upscaling player).

The Happening
-another weird movie only M. Shyamalan can think about and put together. What I like in this movie is the engaging plot that builds up slowly towards the climax. What I don’t like is the flat ending which has a lot of questions unanswered. The movie didn’t center on the etiology of the "happening" but more on the survival of the characters. Very good cast of Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo as supporting. Bad acting by his wife Zooey Dechanel who looked weird and who would just crack anytime. Her blue eyes were tantalizing in a uncanny kind of way. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/43.gif) Just my 2 cents. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/3.gif)

John Q
- It would have been more dramatic if he (John) has given his own heart (ala that korean music video of a girl gone blind, kinda thing) but then the movie served its purpose of showing us a wealthy country's problem about health care and by that, I like it. Denzel is really the man! :)

Terminator 2 (Ultimate Edition)
-although I have watched this oh so many times, the ultimate edition really rocks. It is loaded with some included deleted scenes such as The Terminator (Schwarzenegger) trying to create a smile which is by the way I find so funny and also I noticed that when the T1000 touched a bar with yellow and black stripes, his hand imitated the color of the bar. Didn't notice these scenes before. I am not so much of watching the special features but the line up such as the making, etc. should be worth the watch. Watched it in amazing DTS-ES guaranteed to rock your room. Still is the best installment of the series. ;D

Terminator 3:Rise of the Machines
-John Connor here looked very different than the 10 year old one in T2. I am not being chauvinistic or something but even if the T101 is an old model but being masculine looked like he had the brute force to tear apart the sexy newer model T-X Terminator. I must commend though Kristanna Loken's amazing acting for the role. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/41.gif) Her foxiness justifies a repeat viewing. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/9.gif) My daughter in fact was rooting for the poker faced antagonist rather than Ahhhnuld. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/40.gif) I find this installment paling in comparison with the previous 2 but I enjoyed it the 2nd time around. Dear John
Was waiting for the tearjerker part. Missed it. Never happened. Not even my wife ( a sucker for dramas and love stories ) shed a tear. It's a so-so movie. Had enough going to finish it.
My One And Only
Good movie for Renee Zellweger fans. Plus some fine actors Kevin Bacon, Nick Stahl and other familiar faces. But the star, for me, is that teen Logan Lerman. Realized that Logan is also Percy Jackson and was that kid in 3:10 to Yuma. Pretty good light and funny movie based on the childhood recollection of actor George Hamilton.

Wyatt Earp
A friend of mine called this "Quiet Earp". That's understandable because he's a huge fan of Tombstone, a film depicting Wyatt & the Earps duel with the "Cowboys" at the OK Corral.
This Kevin Costner starred film on the other hand takes us on a 3 hour ride with the legendary shootout taking a backseat to Wyatt's other & lesser known exploits.

"The light that burns twice as bright burns for half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly..."

I haven't seen this in a long time & kinda forgotten how good it was. Way, way ahead of it's time plus this is Ridley Scott's preferred cut.

Unthinkable
A good thriller but you could see from a mile away what SLJ would do to make the terrorist speak up. Carrie Ann Moss looks old already. Some familiar faces here and there from TV series like Weeds, The Shield. Brandon Routh is also here with a minor role. Not an edge of your seat thriller but it kept me on my seat alright.
A Mighty Heart
Fine acting from Mrs Brad Pitt! A preggy Angelina Jolie displays her acting prowess as the wife of journalist Daniel Pearl who was abducted by Pakistani militant fundamentalists. Video is a bit underwhelming, though. Presented in a washed out contrast, intentional by the director i guess.
-
Mission: Impossible 2
This movie has aged well - still looks spectacular. It also has the best DVD menu ever, bar none. Special features are very interesting (how they did the stunts), and the Ben Stiller parody "Mission: Improbable" had me laughing off my seat!
Mission: Impossible 3
The best MI movie of all. Funny how my memory disagrees, since I remember being more enthralled by MI-2 than MI-3. But watching them back-to-back, it's very clear that MI-3 is the winner for me. It's more mature and gritty. Just the right amount of special features too (under 1 hour).

New York, I Love You
Short films by different directors that include Brett Ratner and Actress Natalie Portman. Some are good. Some are so-so. For me the best is the last one directed by Joshua Marston about an elderly couple taking a walk down the streets of NY. Very funny! Very good transfer. I like the PQ.

Let's talk audio quality. Presented on HBO in stereo surround, The Sopranos (http://www.stardvdcity.com/the-sopranos-seasons-16-dvd-boxset-p-189.html) has been remixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital for DVD. While the audio always sounds smooth and clear, it's not an especially active mix. The surrounds are used almost exclusively for music fill, with only occasional ambience heard during the on-screen action. Much of the soundtrack is very screen-oriented, but the front soundstage is nice and spacious. A Dolby Digital 2.0 matrix surround mix is also included (the 5.1 version edges it slightly in dynamics, as expected).
While this boxed set is not as feature-laden as I would have liked, HBO did throw in a few extras. There are two behind-the-scenes featurettes, which are less than five minutes each and were probably used on HBO to advertise the show. They offer almost no insight into the series, and are barely worth mentioning. A commentary track with the show's creator, David Chase, runs through the pilot episode. It's fairly informative, but Chase is a rather bland speaker. Don't fret though, because the real treat of the supplements is the 77-minute interview with David Chase by filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich. This interview covers almost everything a fan of The Sopranos (http://www.stardvdcity.com/the-sopranos-seasons-16-dvd-boxset-p-189.html) would want to know, from the genesis of the show to the development, writing and music… you name it. While I normally like to see more variety of features on disc, this interview provides enough depth and information to cover all the bases. The only missing element on this set is more involvement by the cast. I'm sure I'm not the only Sopranos fan out there that would like to hear an interview or commentary with James Gandolfini or Edie Falco. Gandolfini has so much presence and power on the show, that I'm totally drawn into not only his character, but also Gandolfini as a person and his acting style. I want to know more! My hope is that when The Sopranos (http://www.stardvdcity.com/the-sopranos-seasons-16-dvd-boxset-p-189.html) : The Complete Second Season debuts on DVD, HBO will leave off the fluffy promo pieces, and offer more with Chase, Gandolfini and the rest of the cast. A really good documentary would also be a welcome addition to future supplements.
While the DVD format is a collector's medium, it's not often that a studio will release a title (or titles) that can truly be considered special. It's even more rare when that kind of treatment is given to a TV series (only Fox's X-Files DVD sets have really stood out thus far). Rest assured, you can definitely add The Sopranos: The Complete First Season to the elite list of the best the DVD format has to offer. The Sopranos (http://www.stardvdcity.com/the-sopranos-seasons-16-dvd-boxset-p-189.html) is not only a benchmark of television drama, it's also one of the most provocative shows to debut in years. If you've missed it on cable, this is the perfect opportunity to see what everybody's been talking about for the last two years. Highly recommended.

Kick Ass
-Aaron Johnson plays well as the nerdy kid who had the guts to try to kick bad guy asses. Nicholas Cage who had an exemplary performance specially until he was being burned to the balls. He really does well in superhero movies. The girl Chloe Moretz (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) as Hit Girl just showed some girl power here. I just find her acting and dressing up mature than her age. Seeing her with Big Daddy fighting those bad guys really want you to cheer her on. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/41.gif) Thought initially that this was made mainly for teens and kids but I was wrong after seeing all the gory scenes. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/13.gif) Probably influenced by the anime era and Kill Bill. Kids would identify with the young heroes but this could also have bad influence with the violence.
Not your average superhero movie. Highly entertaining. Looking forward to a sequel. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/4.gif)

Death at a Funeral (2010)
-This movie didn't just merited the comedic acting of just one person. With such a great cast (Chris Rock who by the way was serious, Martin Lawrence and remember hilarious Keith David from Something About Mary , Danny Glover. I just think that remaking a 2007 movie is just too early but enjoyed it just the same. I suggest you turn on the subtitle. These black guys just talk too fast. It took me awhile to understand the relationships of the characters. A recommended funny movie.

Marmaduke
I have watched a lot of animal movies using CGI to make them move and talk as humans and this movie executes it very well. It teaches the value of family & being true to oneself. Perfect movie for pet lovers. It gets emotional in the end. Highly recommended family movie. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/113.gif)

Date Night
-Steve Carrell really plays nerdy roles quite well. Carrell and Fey compliment each other. The car chase scene where the Audi hooked up with a taxi cab chase was just cool and funny. Tina Fey's pole dancing was such a riot. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/24.gif) Supporting actor Mark Wahlberg is buffed as ever and never wore a shirt the whole movie. Not much lines too! A good reason to watch this movie by Twilight fans.

You dont have to be a baseball fan to like this HBO movie.

This was said to be the first major shift of Adam Sandler from his usual comedic stuff. It was interesting in a sense that there was no telling where the story would go, but in the end, it wasn't memorable enough.

Alien Raiders
On reading sir mattia's short review, it piqued my interest to watch this. I take my comment back! It was nothing like Starship Troopers. Yup it was a cool B-movie. I just hated the dark lighting where you cannot really decipher what was happening specially those parts when the alien monster thing attacked everyone. But what the heck, it was a good popcorn flick! (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/4.gif)

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
-Jake Gyllenhaal (did I spell his family name right?)from a nerd in The Day After Tomorrow now with a very different role with a buffed bod had very good delivery in this movie. Gyllenhaal ang Queen Tamina played by Gemma Arterton was just fun to watch with their constant bantering. Add Alfred Molina's (Spiderman's Doc Oc) funny role as a greedy sheik which added a good energy to the movie. I must commend the beautiful cinematography of the Moroccan landscape and deserts.
It's a Disney fantasy movie but it catches more mature audiences rather than kids. Remember that the first release of the video game was when computer monitors were still monochromatic. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/10.gif) Too much talkies would drag them to boredom. The CGI of the turn back time sequences was amazing though. Enjoyed this, the daughter didn't. Edge of Darkness
-I kept my expectations to a minimum from this movie, knowing that Mel is nearly a has-been actor who would try to make a comeback to the bigscreen. I am a Mel Gibson fan so I didn't let this movie pass. I was wrong. Despite his age, Gibson still can deliver such demanding roles. The story was fast paced with a lot of action consistently keeping its momentum towards the end. Keeps you thinking and guessing. Revenge thrillers are Gibson's game. The Exorcist (The Version You've Never Seen)
-a very good video treatment for this 1973 horror flick. There were some added scenes showing Regan's numerous tests that just baffled the doctors. The devil as a shadow or glimpses of his horrific face had more exposure in this version. The scene where possessed Regan was going down the stairs upside down was a very good addition. I just couldn't connect the first part of the movie where the archeologist priest found the demonic relic and the possession of Regan. With or without the additional scenes, the Exorcist is the classic horror movie. The Eye
-Jessica Alba wasn't stunning in this movie being a violinist as compared to her other bikini wearing roles. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/38.gif) I must commend her though in learning to play the violin and reading braille in preparation for her blind musician character in the movie. As I was terrified of the Asian version, this version didn't trigger any spine chilling moments. It's a disappointing Hollywood remake of the original HK flick. It isn't as bad as it seems and the key here is...don't expect much. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/40.gif)

It's "Open Water" ... on ice. Started out cool (pardon the pun) but felt a bit too stretched for the 94 minute runtime. Even had to force myself to watch the 2nd half, just to find out who lived and who got devoured by the other creatures in the movie. Funny but most of the scenes remind me of Dumb and Dumber when Jeff Daniel's tongue stuck to the frozen steel.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
-goes on with the tradition of the 80's series but this time with better visual effects and crisper video. This is with the modern twist such as the use of the internet to search for the others who were haunted by Krueger. The one liners and pun of Freddie cannot be missed and was well used in this movie to bring a few chuckles but not to take away the scare factor. Although Jackie Earle Haley had a good portrayal of the horror icon I still missed the original Robert Englund. The kids as always cannot win an award in acting here as expected with slasher movie's victims. No need to watch the original to appreciate this remake but it would help in comparing the two. Nice to relive the Fedora Hat, the striped sweater and the clawed glove once again.

October Sky
-It's a story of Homer Hickam who at a young age had an interest in rocket science. Showed how he was able to create a functional rocket even with the resistance and detest of his father and eventually was able to win a national science award. A story of healing of a father and son relationship, giving honor to a science teacher who gave him his inspiration for his project and inspite the odds was able to pursue his interest. One of the first movies of Jake Gyllenhaal. I just love true stories and it adds drama to this film. Trully a classic.

The Book of Eli
-looking beyond the swashbuckling moves of Denzel Washington is a wonderful story behind this movie. The dark and desolate sepia tones were appropriate for the post apocalyptic setting. It was so effective I found the movie heavy to watch at the start. As the movie progresses, it became Mad Max-y then ending it with a surprising twist. The surround sound and low frequencies were just amazing! i just love the movie and a must have in a Christian's collection.

How To Train Your Dragon
Not DreamWorks' best, and not the best animated film in my opinion. But it was enjoyable! Toothless is cute. The other dragons though looked a bit wacky and way too goofy for me. The first 7 minutes could've been better. But it was still really good!

World's Fastest Indian
-one of the best movies of Sir Anthony Hopkins. Very good acting, very good true story. Highly recommended!
-
Valentines Day
-star studded cast with Ralph Fiennes,a gay McSteamy, Patrick Dempsey (still in a promiscuous doctor role), Jamie Foxx, Ashton Kutchter, Taylor Swift, Jacob of Twlight, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Gardner, Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba. Very cute and funny movie. Like the Brit movie Love Actually in a California setting. Thought of it as a mushy movie at the start, but enjoyed watching it till the end. I just love a movie where different stories come together in the end. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/3.gif)

Avatar Extended Collector's Cut
the +18 minutes gives us a completely different opening sequence focusing on Jake Sully's life on Earth as a paraplegic. it also gives a glimpse on Dr. Grace Augustine's backstory and other interesting bits :D

Knight and Day
-this is a spy movie you wouldn't take seriously. A lot of action partnered with humor. I just hate Tom Cruise' pretty boy expressions though. Amidst the gunfire, Roy (Tom Cruise) was just talking casually with June (Cameron Diaz). What do you expect from the star of Mission Impossible? Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. Cheesy title by the way.

Cats and Dogs The Revenge of Kitty Galore
-it's one of those animal movies that just let you think that these animals were real human beings. The technology is getting better. This would be great for children ages 6 and above. My 2 year old son walked out after the first 15 mins. The Hannibal Lecter scene would only be appreciated by parents who grew up with Silence of the Lambs. It's just fun to know that Christina Applegate, Nick Nolte, Bette Midler's voices were the voices that gave life to these characters. It's an enjoyable watch with the kids. Titanic
-I just missed the Jack and Rose tandem and of course the magic of James Cameron's biggest blockbuster. Tested this with my new gears and sub, and enjoyed it once again. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/113.gif)
-
Shrek Forever After
-I didn't remember this movie to be enjoyable when I watched this in the theater. But I found it more fun to watch the 2nd time around in the comfort of my home. Shrek's roar was a subwoofer treat. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/4.gif)

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
-when it's a fantasy Disney movie, expect Nicholas Cage to be in it. Very good visual effects and CGI. The surround sound and low frequencies were just enjoyable although the story was so so.

The Last Airbender
-Never saw the cartoon series and I just find this movie enjoyable. Riddled with special effects, surround sound and LFEs were reference material. The flying creature that Aang rode in reminded me of Neverending Story. It is unexpectedly an M. Night Shyalaman movie and this is one of the few that I liked. Nice to see Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire again.
I would consider this movie of good replay value not because of the story but the entertaining CGI. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/16.gif)

Tempted to buy the cheap BD, I watched again my dvd copy. Guess what? I'm not buying the BD anymore. And I'm not gonna touch my DVD again, for a long time! Not even my love for Jennifer Gardner and my fascination for kung fu and special effects can save this movie from extinction.

Fanboys
- The comedy of this film captures a certain market and may not be for all unless you can relate on all the Star Wars excerpts and punchlines. Perfect movie for die hard Star Wars fans, Trekkie haters and Big Bang Theory viewers.

-one of those survival movies where you just wait either nature gets the characters or them escaping from its wrath. You get to feel the fear of the characters & their will to live. Gripping and full of suspense. An interesting watch.

Drag Me to Hell
-after watching some excerpts from a friend's house I decided to watch the full movie. Being familiar with Sam Raimi's Evil Dead I just found this movie similar but this time the protagonist played by Alison Lohman battling some evil possessed hag Mrs. Ganush. Although this movie has been classified as horror, I just found myself chuckling at some parts specially that basement parking scene. I find this movie fun to watch and definitely has good replay value. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/113.gif)
