Title: single best NMT so far?
Post by: ǝʞɐɾ ʎzzɐɾ on Jan 19, 2010 at 06:52 AM

so far... what single NMT:

1.  is capable of DTS, DTSMA, Dolby True HD
2.  uses realtek chip
3.  does not stutter playing big 1080p files
4.  loads fastest
5.  has the best GUI
6.  has e-sata terminal/s
7.  has gigabit ethernet port!

what would the price of this unit be?  is there such a thing???

btw, does anyone have a link to the newest e-great 31b firmware?

thanks and cheers!

I got the FW from the link posted in the Egreat thread.  That practically eliminated the stutters of 1080p contents.  Excellent improvement in playability.

All links to egreatworld do not seem to work anymore and it's disturbing indeed.  Try to obtain the FW from any member who might have downloaded it when their site was still working.

I have the 31B.  Plays great now.

pag heavy na kasi sa action yung scenes on NTFS USB na hard drive nagstustutter na e.

pag EXT2 USD ok lang or pag NTFS IDE mas less yung chance

kung may pera lang, parang ang sarap itapon yung NMT ko e.

nakatikim kasi ako ng realtek based (ang bilis ng loading and bootup)

Ganyan din Egreat 34 ko.  Played it sa xtreamer, ok naman.  But I honestly like the PQ of my egreat better, so I am still on the fence with this.

Try to find that latest Egreat FW.  It effectively solved the NTFS external (USB/eSATA) drive issues - well most of them except for a few very very huge 1080p MKVs...and magaling talaga ang Egreat sa HD audiostream, kaya Im beginning to appreciate the value of my 31B more - kahit ubod ng kupad ang boot-up   ;)  the thing is, mas magaang pa ang playback ng napaka-lalaking BDMV/m2ts streams than MKVs - it appears the compression made the decoding process more complicated.

you can try the 1080p files of:

1.  The Saint 1080p AC3 HDTV 1997
2.  Edison 1080p AC3 Bluray 2005
3.  Mrs. Doubtfire 1080p DTS Bluray 1993
4.  True Romance 1080p DTS Bluray 1993

i think wala pa, based on sir jake's criteria.

mahirap yung criteria dahil may requirement for eSATA and realtek chip lang ang pwede ... Egreat lang yata yung may eSATA ... and putting realtek in the criteria disqualifies the Sigma-based players

personally, i would not include eSATA in the criteria coz the NMT would not really fully utilize the eSATA bandwidth ... USB 2.0 speed is already ok with NMT's - i haven't experienced any playback issues with my player on USB connected storage ... eSATA is an advantage for an external storage connecting to a PC

+1 sir raptor, but for me, am really looking at either further improvement of dvico tvix 6600 (realtek) or a sigma based player like a-200. to hopefully fullfill the more or less very stringent criteria of sir jake.  ;D

having a Gigabit Ethernet port is probably a better criteria than the eSATA - this would allow smooth 1080p playback over a wired network

yup..the Popcorn Hour A-200 and C-200 have gigabit ethernet port  ;) and you can add a wifi card for the C-200 to stream wirelessly even 1080p

alright let's revise the criteria.  lets make it a bit stiffer!

here you go...

so far... what single NMT:

1.  is capable of DTS, DTSMA, Dolby True HD
2.  uses realtek chip
3.  does not stutter playing big 1080p files
4.  loads fastest
5.  has the best GUI
6.  has e-sata terminal/s
7.  has gigabit ethernet port!

what would the price of this unit be?  is there such a thing???

btw, does anyone have a link to the newest e-great 31b firmware?

thanks and cheers!  ;)

Ok lang Cat5 in my case Bro - but I personally prefer docks. ;D

Hi Jazzy Jake.  You dont want to combine your 31B with a Mede8er or Xtreamer?  That would cover most of your requirements - not sure if Mede8er has gigabit LAN and cant say that Mede8er has the best GUI after seeing the jukebox styles of other makes - but it's a pretty smooth 1080p and pure BD rip (m2ts) player - but Egreat rocks on HD audiostreams.

Until when can you wait?

Note that in order to enjoy DTS-HD/MA or TrueHD, you'd have to get those huge files.  No problem acquiring those?    Very very very very very rare ang MKV with DTS-MA/HD,

If you're fine with DTS, and really want a Realtek based player, Im fully confident of the Mede8er already - and I think the Xtreamer owners are quite proud of their gadget too.

Pero it's easy to imagine that next years' models would even be better.  But again, until when can you wait?  I ask this question because whenever I look at my HDDs, - it's not worth waiting too long.   ;)  whether it be PC based player or NMT.

there is this encoder/uploader in HDME who's experimenting with the HD Audio in his encode. he's initial test encode is the movie 300. at 1080p, 16.2Mbps video bitrate,DTS,  file size is 14.7Gb then a separate file for Dolby TrueHD is 1.93Gb, he gave instructions on how to mux the HD audio.  ;)

sorry sa OT. ;D

truth is am having a hard time parting with my 31b.

i still believe, if not for the sigma chip - it can give the others a run for its money.  the set-up option is nothing i found on my Cinematube.  although the briteview unit loaded 10x faster (even with 4tb connected) than my 31b can boot up with just the internal drive.  and you are right when you say that there are extremely few titles that have HD audio.  i just want a bit more flexibility though.

for now, i've sold my Cinematube (i was frustrated with the GUI and the set-up options).  will stick with the 31b for now.

i'd have to check out the mede8er though as recommended!

thanks! cheers bro!

sir, i think it's not the SIGMA chip ... it's the support and firmware of Egreat i think ... i just updated the post on my more than a year-old TVIX M6500 which has SIGMA chip ... i would say that it has all the features and more of the criteria that you laid out, except for the fast boot and eSATA ... almost a minute kasi boot-up ng M6500, but it's not an issue - gives me time to power-on the AVR and select the AV channel on the tv

am not certain if the boot up is firmware, but am sure the firmware affects 1080p stutter.  before i upgraded to the new firmware my 1080p files do not stutter at all.

lets wait a few more months i can smell it already  ;)

the boot-up speed is likely due to the older Sigma chip, i haven't read anything from the new popcorn hour, but there should be improvement as well on the new models

I was a bit disappointed with the CinemaTube when I first got it (realtek chip + component connection was the come-on for me).  The beta firmware changed all that.

The beta firmware that I've been using has been great since it can now access windows shares on Windows 7. GUI has also improved considerably.  Add that to the fact that the 802.11N card that I bought at CDR King is freaking compatible (haven't tested streaming 1080p BD rips over WiFi yet, though).

I prefer this now over the Sigma-based eGreat ang PCH. :)

Actually there are more than enough pure BD rips (mostly in m2ts streams) out there for anyone's needs, which both the Egreat and the Realtek players can handle (with some BUT  ;).  Kaya lang, talagang malalaki ang filesizes.

Pareho kami ni Raptor, I dont mind too much about the slow boot-up of the Egreat - just a little bit disappointed that the 1080p stutter is not 100% fixed yet even with the latest FW.  But compared to the previous FW that was released earlier this year, 1080p playability has improved significantly.

BTW, how's the boot-up of the new Sigma based WDTV Live?

It's not only "a bit faster" than the Xtreamer... it's MUCH FASTER.  :)   When I tried it in my setup, it fired up in like 2 seconds, compared to no less than 10 seconds for my Xtreamer.  But still due to my personal criteria, I kept the Xtreamer instead.

if you are just starting a set-up, this would be a good alternative. bluray, dvd and nmt. saan ka pa, but with a lot of us having the other players already... will have to think twice.

i could actually buy three pch a-200 or four wdtv live at the price (i mean including the shipping from u.s. to here).  ;D

but the build quality look really good (ala oppo) clean lines, really looks good on a spider rack....  ;D

I'm glad you guys agree with me :)

At $499, that's what one would spend souping up a PCH C-200 to match it so for me it's a good price.

Apparently, this is the only Blu-ray player I know off that allows DVD/Blu-ray region to be changed :)

Region Free Mod (http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18187) - allows dune players to change DVD & BLU-RAY regions[/url].

Also take note that their Prime 3.0 (with BD loader) can be set for Region Free Blu-ray which I haven't found anywhere else in the world (yet).

wow, another great feature. yes, if you want an all-in one machine. its really a worthy investment, less clutter is also an added incentive. three components in one.

dalin na yan sa shootout!  waaaaaaaaaaa!

kung meron lang member na meron na nito!
