Please help to all Gurus!!!
Planning to get a new LCD TV... my target is a 42inch... would a HD-Ready only have a big difference in picture against a Full-HD.
Or would a 37inch be enough if I would be getting only a HD-Ready unit.
Budget is my factor...
Any advice and recommendations?...would primarily be use to watch movies (mkv & dvd)

i'm not familiar with the terms Full HD and HD Ready, perhaps because the marketing here in Canada doesn't use those terms much (or maybe i just don't pay attention)
at this point in time, go for something that would produce 1080p video and at least 120Hz refresh rate. i would always advice to go a little higher up the food chain than settling for a 720p and 60Hz just because its cheap, then one or two years from now you'd want to upgrade again. go for something thats a little more expensive but you know will last you longer

720p vs a 1080p does not matter if you don't have a TV that is 50 inches or more :D but if you could get the full HD (1080p) for a price just a bit higher than a HD (720p), then why not go full HD?
Your eyes will never see the difference anyway unless you are 1)Owl or 2)Superman.
To me what is important are:
1. Decent contrast ratio, anywhere north of 10,000:1 (nakalimutan ko term pero nde sya dynamic)
2. Wattage
3. Price

Agree that it would be better to go for Full HD 1080p (unless you plan to buy a cheaper 720p display). Nowdays most of the new models are in 1080p. However, for a size 42" display you can actually differentiate btw a 720p & 1080p given the correct viewing distance. I downloaded the latest "Clash of the Titan" HD trailer & watched it in both 720p & 1080p at 42" display and can easily see the difference.:)

In general you can't distinguish 720p from 1080p on the same screen size at a given viewing distance. But only if each has the proper bitrates. It's really more on bitrate than resolution. Even within the same resolution, say 480p, you can distinguish one with a lower bitrate from one with a higher bitrate. This is clearly evidenced by some pirated DVD titles using DVD5 instead of DVD9 in legit versions. Some of those downloadable 720p files have low bitrates that can make them distinguishable from a 1080p with a more decent bitrate. It's also possible for a 1080p file to look bad if it has low bitrate compared with a 720p file with high bitrate.
Going back to the OP question, always go for the highest resolution when getting a larger screen monitor or TV. 32-inch may look good in 720p, but 42-inch would look better in 1080p than in 720p. Reason: dot pitch. The larger the screen the farther apart the gridlines and the fewer the dots per square inch for the same resolution.

Bro, if you're primarily going to watch movies(mkv & dvd) why not settle for a plasma instead.
It's very well known that Plasmas are friendlier to SD material than LCD's and they output a more "fil-like" picture.

Yes, Plasma is a good alternative & at a much cheaper price. Panasonic has released some great plasma models. Check it out if it meets your budget.
