Title: UK version vs US version?
Post by: yasmin on Jun 24, 2010 at 11:07 AM
what's your take on this?
which one would you prefer to collect?
in terms of packaging?
picture and sound quality?
special features?
price?
 :D

I prefer the US version.

My primary reason is packaging.  The UK versions usually have fatter cases.  They're a waste of shelf space.  And I think those BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) logos are really ugly:

Picture and sound quality shoud be the same.

But as for the special features, I still avoid the UK versions because I don't like PAL format in SD video.  Special features are sometimes presented in SD resolution.  And when a UK disc has an SD special feature, it's going to be in PAL format.

I'd rather have a Philippine Region A than a UK version, actually.

i agree... sana nga lang may steel cases din ang u.s versions. those re really nice and more durable compared to the plastic ones. ;)

Me too, I prefer the U.S. versions for the same reasons cited by sir barrister.  Generally, the quality should be the same but there are cases wherein the UK version gets better review than the U.S. in terms of special feature and contents. In such cases, I would go for the UK release.

Meron naman po U.S. steelbooks like the Bond movies, the Disney steels, Halo Legends, Hurt Locker - most are BB exclusives.  And I don't know about durable... kasi parang mas durable ang plastic cases kesa steels.  ang steelbooks kasi madali ma-damage, konting tumama or madaganan, may dent na kaagad or may scratch na.    :-\  But I agree with you... steelbooks are indeed nice.  ;D

US version is really the first choice.

UK and other versions are just, let's say, versions.

One British said that he ordered U-571 from US because it had better quality than the UK copy.

I just watched the UK version of "Gladiator".  It is practically the same as the US version.

I have also watched the UK version of "The Bourne Trilogy".  Also no difference with the US version.  Cheaper actually to buy the UK version than getting the US version.
