NAD C315BEE / C316BEE, Cambridge Audio 340A / 540A, Marantz PM5003, or Rega Brio 3 --- depending on your preferred sound. The Dared VP-16 is also an option if you'd like to venture into valve gear.

Amplifier design has not really enjoyed radical improvements to make 21st century stereo amps any better than the finest amps of the 70s and 80s. For about 2T to 3T, those japanese surplus stereo integrated amps from Sansui, Kenwood, Teac and Onkyo at the pier that were once high ends during their time will trounce any stereo amp you see in today's AV stores. These amps were made in Japan exclusively for their local markets, not for international markets which are said to be inferior to Japan's consumer electronic standards for local consumption.
Of course, it's a bit risky. But for the price, It's a cheap gamble I won't mind. Sometimes, there's benefit to be had when your country is a dump for what used to be other country's treasures in the past. ;D
But if you are in the market for budget amps, the pier is a good start. Correction, they're not budget amps because these amps were mostly mid to high end in their time. I prefer to call them high value amps. I don't know about you, but Made in Japan still rings a better bell to me than Made in China, with all things equal.

That said, I have seen Technics SU-V6, SU-V7 and the NEC A-700 (Little Chatty's) at the Pier. I think these are good "starter" amps. Personally, I have a Technics SU-V9 and have paired many different speakers - Diatone, Sony, Coral, Sansui and have not had any complaints.
You should check out http://www.niji.or.jp/home/k-nisi/index.html (this website features the top models) or http://www.audio-heritage.jp/ to familiarize yourself with high end Japanese hifi. So, when you go to the Pier you can easily spot which are the "better" ones.

Thanks for the inputs, I just borrowed my Dad's vintage Pioneer amp for the mean time. Model is SA-8500 II.

He bought it from Denmark during late 70's. My 9.1 is singing well using a DVD player for my CDs.
I might try NAD amp and player and hear if there is a big difference. Thanks again!

that's a great amp! dual mono amp, selectable tone controls, decent phono preamp, built like a tank. i don't think any budget amp can beat that. my advice: wag mo na ibalik sa dad mo! ;D

Best bang for the buck would be well maintained / good condition pre-owned amplifiers - look at the market place. Once in a while, you get a chance at amazing gear - great sound for really low prices. 5 channel power amps for less than 20 k, great speakers at 20 k, some stereo amps for less than or at 5k!
