I have this. Kahapon lang binili sa SNS.

As posted in the other thread, DTS is not supported. Which is okay since DTS is not supported based on papers. I tried some Mp4 HD files (720p, 1080p) with MP4 AAC audio, however I cannot hear any sound in either TV and Optical out. Based on specs AAC is supported. Will try other file types.

Sayang kasi parang may build-in Media/NMT player na itong Pana X30 pero limited naman ang audio support. DLNA and wired and wireless support pa, so you can set-up home network to watch movies from other sources.

Admittedly, the 'true cinema mode' color is bland/pale to my taste, Dynamic mode is too bright and too colorful.   Then again, you can always adjust to your desired color, contrast etc. Maybe Im just used in watching in my HD CRT. It may take some time to adjust my eyes.

Overall I'm happy. Very happy actually. For a branded 42" plasma with almost complete features except 3D and for only about 26K++, I have no complaints.

Anyone tried the Facebook and Shoutcast function on this model? I tried connecting mine via ethernet. Mukhang viewer lang  ito and there's no way you can post sa facebook.  Very picky din po ang built in player. Even the formats that are supposed to be supported won't play. Pero sa Picture quality po naman ... a lot better than the samsung and LG plasmas. Pa-share naman po ng picture settings nyo.

I think sa akin binigay (nag-iisang unit yesterday), sensya na. Wala po akong kinalaman dito.. In fairness with SNS, they checked first with their staff kung makakabalik ka to get the item before they decide to sell the item to me. Something 1 hour na palugit or hindi mo na maantay dahil may susunduin ka or something...

Actually last Saturday pa ako nag try na bumibili rin sa kanila, laging pag dating ko naubusan ako.

Anyway. Let's just enjoy our plasmas..

Just got my new and first ever NMT (Egreat S800).

At first, I was so happy already with my x30 by just watching my dvds with my old dvd player. However, the power and beauty of this beast will further shine and show using HD material.

I am just overwhelmed with this plasma tv and my NMT

I think its one year warranty. Good question on the "home service issue". I will ask once I find their O.R. and call them.

The reason I asked is I believe it's idiotic if the warranty is "bring the set to the nearest service center" since we are dealing with a very big, fragile electronics here.

It should always be Home Service for these kind of things. It's not like an oven toaster which you can bring with you conveniently.

I agree with you.  ;)

Going back to its display settings. I haven't tinkered with it yet. Ergo, I am still using its default settings and its already superb IMHO  ;D

Regarding burn-in period, though there have been conflicting advise, suggestions and opinions, there is no harm in doing it, thus, I did it on my unit just to be sure  ;)

reflective sya, but then again so are most of the plasmas out there. as the masters have posted in the 42/50x30 review thread, reflective but beautiful black unlike those with matte screens na black isn't really black. for me big improvement ang paglipat sa plasma coming from an LCD display. sa LCD kasi and daming noise na makikita like sa mga scenes ng Hurt Locker. sa 42x30 very minimal na lang. and for its price, you can't complain :D

only one question, how do you set-up the cable with this TV?

Same scenario at my house, two windows at left side about 2.5 meters away from TV.  Not that big of a deal.

Do you mean channel listing? Sa regions, chose others and pick American cable or american TV, or something along those lines.

IMO, the thing you need to tweak is not the TV, but your ambient light :)

that's strange.  Have you tried resetting the TV to factory defaults > other region > american cable/TV ?  It's been my experience that if you have the wrong region, TV won't tune properly both audio and video.

I was able to canvas one 42x30 at vmall 3rd level beside dynamic pc.

25k daw with 1 year panasonic phils warranty.  Wonder if SnS has adjusted thier prices.

Already set to get the unit but still waiting for a little bit more. No rush to get the item yet.

Wish that prices of the 42x30 goes down a little bit more to about 22k~24k before Christmas.... Mga October  or November...

i was finally able to transfer the 42x30 to my room and what can I say? grabe PQ talaga ng plasma! :D i don't think i'll be able to go back to LCD because of this. will, surely get one for myself once my mom returns from SG! ;D

+10! This is awesome! PQ is really great. Downside is its power consumption is high. It consume 200w, but it could only add I think 100 pesos on your electric bill and its tolerable! bang for the buck.

Just got my x30 last week and enjoying it. Don't be so paranoid about image retention and burn in and enjoy your tv as your older crt tv. Ika nga, you already have a new model the time you'll see burn in.. This model is rated 100,000 hours to half life.. "Imba" ;D ;D ;D ALso, almost all forums i've read says that panasonic plasmas are the best when it comes to handling image retention and burn in (samsung 2nd, and Lg last)

It's great a lot of you guys are enjoying your X30!

I've been very busy, hence my inability to answer PM's of late...

Here are some of the recurring questions and my answers

1)Does the X30 need a break-in?

The break-in is not all essential but it's still something I recommend. A hundred hours go by very quickly anyway.

2)Do "break-ins" prevent Image Retention?

No, they don't, but as your panel ages, the "stuck" images fizzle out faster.

3)The X30 is 720p, so how could it be "better" than most 1080p LCD/LED

Let's put it this way, the only thing some LCD or LED panels have over this plasma is resolution. And that's  not enough to roll a better number from a dice. What the X30 lacks in the resolution department, it makes up for it with better contrast and color saturation.

I'm in love with plasma but I don't want to be a blind sided fanboy. There are also a number of LCD/LED models we've tested that clearly drown the X30! Samsung Smart series 6, the Sony NX720 and hell yeah... my new favorite TV...The Sharp Quatron! But for a 42 inch TV under 30k? My oh my! One should not even complain :)

4)Do you recommend the X30 for gaming?

Yeah sure! Use it for games! But if you'll play long hours do stay on the safe side and keep contrast to about 50% and mix gaming with other content.

5)Your test setting for this TV?

We test TVs in a pitch black environment, so it's always in "cinema" mode. Cinema in my experience with plasma (PV70/80/PY800/C10/G11/V20) almost always bring a more natural color and hardly crush blacks.

I'll look at our X30 later within the day then post em here.

6)Best plasma models you've had?

Not in any particular order...C10,PV80 and V20 :D

Be blessed,
Carlo777

I noticed the trend had been towards cost and ecology for the entry level Panasonic TVs. They've taken out the AR coating in the plasma models, and had reduced the default brightness and contrast levels in both plasmas and lcds. This way, a newer TV with the same panel and/or backlight design can quote lower power consumption, while possibly costing less to make (at least for the PDP models). Colors have shifted towards more green (which our eyes are more sensitive too) and blue (giving a heightened perception of brightness), presumably to allow for lower drive levels.

What limits people from adjusting the brightness in most cases (in case they care more about PQ than power consumption) is the fact that the lower model Panasonics don't have a readily accessible gamma adjustment. Panasonic chooses a relatively low gamma for its entry level models, and increasing the brightness just worsens this.

I have Panasonic TVs, and this maker does build good TVs. I'm just not convinced with the direction that they seem to be taking with these models. I like the fact that they're able to bring the cost down (and pass it on to the consumers) and I truly welcome the greener credentials, but I don't want to sacrifice image quality to achieve those numbers. I'm not sure if they're doing this as a part of their corporate responsibility, or to compare well against their competitors when it comes to quoted consumption levels (perhaps both).

Same here, that's why after the Panasonic C10, newer entry level models (though still quite good) don't give me so much of that "wow" effect the same way the PV70 or the PV80 did.

In all honesty, those who do have older models should stick to their guns unless power consumption is a big deal.

Anyway, I got a lot of requests to review the 2011 FULLHD U30, I'm holding it off in the meantime because it was a bit disappointing.

Amen! :) They've been rehashing the same tech and cutting costs in the process. Luckily, the reduction in price per generation is greater than the reduction in PQ (imho) -- thus ending up with good price/performance.

If you don't use it purely for gaming (say 50:50 with TV viewing), walang kaso. But if you play the same game over and over again (or for extended periods), you'd get pretty bad image retention.

hi,

Don't get me wrong the U30 is a good model...it's just that for a 2011 model, it does not seem to live up to the performance of our 2009 G11 and the 2010 V20. Sure it's not a neo-pdp panel plasma, but the colors and over-all "pop" seems to look just like last years U20.

The VT30 though, is what's getting us excited.

As Carlo mentioned, the X30 and the U30 models are for the most part just redressed X20 and U20 models. They are almost exactly the same in terms of image quality. The reflectivity, color balance and gamma of the predecessors were largely carried over.

I think it's the PS51D490 that displays 3D content. If 3D matters to you, then this model would likely appeal to you.

This is off topic.

If you dont have one yet, you need to get an AVR (audio video receiver) with either 5.1 or 7.1 channels. You also need to get a center speaker, which will have problems with a smooth crossover with your kenwood speakers (bec. they would be of diff brands.) . Lastly you need to decide how many back speakers (or surrounds do you need/want).

I'm now the proud owner of a 42X30 which I got from SNS last Saturday to replace my  Full HD 42U20.

I must say that I am impressed with this set as it exhibited better PQ than my previous set.

After adjusting the picture levels for "break-in", I went 2 notches down for the resolution output of my DVD to 720p and adjusted the picture levels on my DVD player so that the picture wouldn't be that bland.

Here's my problem...as i turned up the brightness on my DVD player, I noticed that the black standby picture suddenly became grainy, this is looking up close of course...is this normal for a Plasma? Now, I noticed that even when playing movies there's a bit of grain the picture. This is my first Plasma and don't know how it really behaves.

Since I sold my media player, I couldn't test images from another set.

I've read in a couple of other forums that this might be a problem with the HDMI ports (which I hope it isn't).  I didn't want another problem with my new set. Or am I just being hypersensitive about it coming from the floating blacks dilemma of my previous U20?

Overthinking? or cause for concern?

Maybe Master Carlo can give some inputs...

TIA guys...

For the owners of x30, how did you break in this unit?

sirs, mga fellow x30 users, question lang tungkol sa optical output nitong plasma.,
im using a htib with one optical input., i would connect x30's optical directly to my htib.. Kung kakabitan ko ng media player,ps3 or any source thru hdmi, will the x30's optical audio out simply pass its original audio from hdmi? (ex. Dts input from hdmi, dts also from optical out.)
sorry medyo magulo hehehe..
TIA..

To answer your question.

First DTS and MP4 AAC audio files are not supported by X30, even pass-through DTS/MP4 AAC is not supported.

It will be useless (in DTS) if you choose this option:

NMT HDMI Out ---> X30 HDMI ---> Optical Out of X30 ---> Optical In of HTIB

So if you have NMT, then connect NMT to the HTIB. Since you have HTIB with 1 optical input, I guess you can only use one at a time, thus bypassing Optical Out of the X30 and you can only listen to analog out (2CH)  or TV speakers.

Also, it better to use NMT for media player rather than build-in media player of X30

so follow up questions lang

1. does this apply to watching TV and MOVIES? DVDs, etc.

2. i read different story on how a "burn in" should be done, but im really confused on how to apply it.
meron kasi watch in full screen, etc........

can someone here explain it to me any further.

Id appreciate it...thanks and gud pm ;)

yep sa lahat, avoid black borders during the burn-in period, channel logos is fine as long as you switch to other channel once in awhile, if not.... i suggest every 30 minutes you turn overscan OFF or ON to shift the picture slightly to a different pixel to prevent burning.

others use color slides to burn their TV, i read others run it straight for 24hrs. you can find color slides sa net if you wish to do this. gudluk

Maganda na ang technology ng Plasma ngayon, may mga build-in anti-burn features na Pixel Shifter or Orbiter or wobbling

http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PlasmaFAQ?storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&langId=-1&catGroupId=24973

5. I've heard that plasma TVs can "burn-in" over time. What is "burn-in" exactly, and is it really a concern?
"Burn-in," or image retention, is an uneven aging of the phosphors in a display device, can occur on any display that uses phosphors to generate an image, including tube TVs, projection TVs that use CRTs, and plasma TVs. Such uneven aging happens when bright, static images are left onscreen for an extended period of time, which can leave a visible "shadow" effect.

Improvements in panel service life to over 60,000 hours have minimized the risk of image retention. In addition, screen savers, pixel shifting, and brightness level adjustments can dramatically reduce any chance of image retention. Use common sense when it comes to your plasma TV; don't pause video games or watch TV stations with station logos onscreen for long periods of time, and use one of the many display calibration DVDs available today for properly setting brightness and contrast.

The rule of thumb: if you don't worry about your traditional tube TV, you don't have to worry about a Panasonic plasma TV. [/i]

Heart Live in Seattle

*I haven't explored yet the other features such as the media player, streamer, internet and LAN capabilities.  This is a 50 inch plasma but with only a 720p resolution.  The PQ isn't as sharp as one would expect from a full HD panel given the size of the screen.  The merits would be the blacks i.e. after some calibration and the color rendition which I think would give a lot of weight in one's decision making. Not to mention Panasonic's track record in durability and quality of plasma TVs.  :D

Congrats on the new TV sir! :) I really think that Panasonic still is among the most consistent makers when it comes to reliability.

As for the video settings, I think they really botched the default settings on purpose to make the higher models look good and to improve power consumption numbers. I hope you do find the best balance for acceptable viewing, despite the lack of a gamma control.

Thanks sir Ivan! I am happy with it already after calibrating it initially with Avia for reference then tweaked a little more to suit my preference.  I'd leave more advanced tweaks and calibration to the higher models.  :D

I will recalibrate after 100 hours to see if there will be an improvement.

Just bought a Panasonic 50X30S today from SnS.  Still tweaking the video settings as the color settings are reddish in color out of the box.  So far settled with tweaked Cinema settings and tamed the color a bit.

Hope you can post your display settings boss...I've tweaked it to my preference but use the "Normal" display mode...but settings from a fellow user will always be welcome.

TIA

What's your viewing distance on your 50X30? Ganda..I am within 8 ft of my 42x20. Ok naman sya. Im wondering if a 50 HD ready panel with the size increase with my fixed distance would give me noticeable difference like the samsung 50 i have auditioned in malls.  Parang screen door effect nakikita ko.

My viewing distance is also 8 feet.  The TV I replaced with the 50X30 was a 42 inch plasma.  I didn't notice much difference in PQ given the increase in size with the same distance.

Thanks Bro. Considerable din kasi price difference between a full hd panel na plasma like the 50ut30 and st30 line vs the likes of the 50x30 and kung di naman heaven and earth PQ difference, practical din to choose the cheaper one for those that are into the hobby.

Not to be OT, what avia are you using? Cheers.

I'm pretty sure that you can tell the difference if you look for it, especially with good material. The big question is do you look for flaws when you're watching or do you just sit back and enjoy? If you're the nitpicking type, then it probably pays to get the best TV that you can afford. The latter types (majority of us) would likely be satisfied with a more value-oriented purchase.

It really depends on your use.  This is for a bedroom setup where most of the time analog TV is the most viewed material.  Even full HD panels wouldn't give any added benefit to this source.  Much more buying an LCD or LED of the same size.  I view occasional MKVs from my HTPC which can render very good PQ even on an HD ready plasma panel.

I have a full HD PJ (Epson 8350) in another room for critical viewing of BDs and other HD source material.   ;)

using the meralco app on my blackberry, assuming the 42x30 consumes 200watts, if you use it 12 hours for each day of the month, it will cost you P808.57 or P2.4 per hour.

My rarely used 42x30 just died. Bigla na lang namatay and won't power on na. I just bought it october last year. Kamalas nga naman. Bihira pang magamit parang once a week lang.

I had it checked up. It's either the power supply or the main board na. Any idea how much damage nito? Is it better to buy a new one.

TSK TSK TSK!!!

Kung mga power supply yan around P6-7k.  Good that you were able to use it for more than a year. Ako less than a month lang ang 42x50 ko coz It developed a spider crack due to misuse.  Cost of the repair...P20k wala pang labor yan.  Pamapalubag loob lang.

Sad to say cracks in the panel aren't covered by warranty.  I now have a 42 inch paperweight lying around.

Anyway, dito una akong nagbasa ng reviews ng 42x30 bago ko binili as gift to my wife last year. After 1 year watching on the plasma ang masasabi ko lang ay hindi na ako nanonood ng movies sa sinehan. Hahaha...gandang manood lalo na at naka-set-up ng home theater.
