Mod's note: Posts split from "DVD Release Calendar 2003" thread.

It's still coming out on April 1. Now the bad news -  the new release reportedly has the same UPC as the first one; I guess it's just a reissue, not a newer edition.

Still a bare-bone edition?!

That's really bad news for the fans of this brat pack classic including me!  :(

Hi keating. More news re Breakfast Club from dvdfile:

The holy grail of the cinema du John Hughes - Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science - is finally ready to be unleashed on September 2nd from Universal Studios Home Video. As the disciples of the pied piper of 80's teen cinema already know all too well, the long hoped-for reissues of these flicks have already been announced once and then postponed, so will this time be the charm? Let's hope so, and although full specs have not yet been announced, each will be newly remastered in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, plus trailers. Retail will be $19.95 each, or $39.95 for a 3-disc Brat Pack set. Stay tuned...

More news from dvdfile re Breakfast Club :

Finally, in bad news for John Hughes fans, those waiting for feature-laden new special editions of his holy trinity - Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science - will undoubtedly be disappointed by the upcoming reissues due on September. We've received the final specs, and although all feature newly remastered 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, there are no extras included at all aside from trailers, and Sixteen Candles doesn't even get that. While retail is a low $19.95 apiece, after all the wait and endless postponements, such bare-bones reissues are bound to be a letdown.

I think Universal Studios is fooling us guys...after this they will announce again that a new edition of what I consider the best Brat Pack movie...
THE BREAKFAST CLUB...a new edition will resurface!  >:(

Is the $19.95 a good catch for the
bare-bone edition?  ???

Hi Big Daddy - Welcome to Pinoydvd. Yes, Pretty in Pink has already been released in dvd.  It came out August of last year and it's the only R1 edition I know of.  There were no earlier editions before that.

Though it was remixed into a 5.1 Dolby Digital mix, sadly there are no extras on the disc. Here's a review (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_5/prettyinpink.html) from dvdfile.

Thanks for the split thread of THE BREAKFAST CLUB release dvd Boss Benny!  :)

ST. ELMO'S FIRE dvd also has a different artwork cover instead of the CAST ON BENCH.

But the good catch for this dvd are the tons of extras inlcuding Joel Schumacher's commentary about the 7 brat packers, trailers, music video of Jon Par's "man in motion"  and many others.

We'll just dream for the moment for the commentary of JOhn Hughes, deleted scenes & interviews of the five leads.  :(

We finally get a Special Edition DVD of The Breakfast Club!

Due on August 5, 2008, this "Flashback Edition" release includes the following special features:

1. Audio commentary With Anthony Michael Hall and Judd Nelson

2. Sincerely Yours feature

3. Most Convenient Definitions feature

4. Theatrical Trailer

Still no sign of the deleted scenes I chronicled on this post (http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=12428.msg192255#msg192255), but it's still much better than the previous trailer-only releases.

Audio is DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1.

SRP: $19.98

Artwork to follow.

Although I like the new cover, I think it's almost criminal not to use the original poster, which is as much an 80s pop culture icon as the film itself:

After a one month delay in its release date, I finally got it!  ;D

Reposting my thoughts from the Brat Pack thread:

I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The long documentary seemed really lacking, since there was no participation from Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, and most importantly, John Hughes.  :-\

But I did learn something new from the documentary which I found amazing, since I never noticed it before. When you look at the opening scenes, they focus on a wall, where they have the outstanding alumni per year:

Can you read the name plate, and can you recognize the face?

He went from being the school's "Man of the Year" in 1969 to being the school's janitor in 1984!

Brilliant!  ;D

No, not yet. I'm not sure if it will be. Magnavision's erratic on Special Edition releases of old titles.

Francis Ford Coppola's THE OUTSIDERS  2 disc-set was a blast also from the past! Its cool that they used the original poster artwork.

Mr. Hankey only the 3 cast members participated on the docu of THE BREAKFAST CLUB?

Definitely. The documentary and commentary for The Outsiders 2-Disc set was much better conceived/produced than the ones for The Breakfast Club.

Mr. Hankey only the 3 cast members participated on the docu of THE BREAKFAST CLUB?

Four... if you count Carl the Janitor (John Kapelos).

I didn't know (or I forgot) that Paul Gleason had passed away. It seems just like yesterday he was spoofing his "The Breakfast Club" role in "Not Another Teen Movie."
