Along with mostly what they've suggested (see above post), if you're getting a multi-region player, which is most likely what you should get, you probably also need to test the player with any of these:
- Any R3 DVD
- Any R1 DVD
- Any other region DVD, original or not original
- A DVD with RCE - like Gladiator (?)
- A dual-layered DVD - like Gladiator
This is to test if your DVD player can actually play ANYTHING and hindi siya mamimili. Because it would be so much of a hassle if you bought a DVD, say with RCE, which your player cannot read.
-
The DVD notorious for having RCE is The Patriot, not Gladiator.
I agree with CrUzSACK's suggestions, but in this day and age, I think bringing a DVD-R disc is also mandatory. Whenever I buy a player (for myself or for a friend - many seem to want to take me with them when they buy a player... ;) ), I personally bring:
1. The Patriot (R1, with RCE)
2. Any R3
3. Any R2
4. A loaded DVD-R
5. A pirated disc
If possible, I also ask them to hook the player to an NTSC television, to see if the player can convert my R2 PAL discs to NTSC, just in case my friend's television isn't multi-system.

;D ;D ;D
CD-R also for those MP3 that you downloaded over the net. ;)
