plan to get an edifier 5.1 will this be great affordable and complete for my needs..?

hi.affordability wise..yes. the question is from what you've mentioned "complete for your needs", i.e. movies, games, sounds or even karaoke. i doubt it. everything has it's limitations. it may satisfy your taste when it comes to watching your favorite movies, but has it's lows when you played your favorite music.
take it slowly. one at a time. ;)

actually, for starter ok na yan. if your intention is to just experience the multi channel of cinema, music or karaoke sound go for it. If you  don't have upgraditis habbit this is fine setup.  ;D

Got some friends who just acquired and setup their system, no upgrade or system change for years. They just enjoy and don't care of any new technologies or A/V formats have came out in the market.  :D

Best thing that you can do is try to audition the said unit, see if it will suit your taste and will satisfy your needs. ;)
