Title: JFK (2-Disc Special Edition)
Post by: ThePatriot on Aug 29, 2003 at 07:38 AM
from www.thedigitalbits.com:

Speaking of Warner, the studio has sent word that they're planning on re-releasing Oliver Stone's JFK on 11/11 (MAP $19.95). This 2-disc JFK: Special Edition will include the film in anamorphic widescreen video with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio (the 205 minute cut). Also included will be the Beyond JFK feature-length documentary, 12 extended/deleted scenes and audio commentary with director Oliver Stone. We believe that this is basically the same disc as before, simply with the addition of the documentary.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22nd, Warner Home Video, along with filmmaker Oliver Stone, will be releasing a special edition DVD of the director's Academy Award winning film, JFK. Set to hit stores on November 11th, the 2-disc set will include the feature-length documentary BEYOND JFK, which explores the many conspiracy theories associated with the tragic events of November 22, 1963, including interview footage and eyewitness accounts that look at the conspiracy questions revolving around the assassination. Also included on the disc will be twelve Extended/Deleted Scenes and and a Commentary track by Oliver Stone. The movie itself will be featured in a Widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 with a 5.1 audio track. For those of you who may not have seen the film in a while or (gasp!) those of you who haven't seen it at all, just let me remind you of some of the amazing cast that Stone assembled for this historic film: Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Bacon, Gary Oldman, Joe Pesci, Walter Matthau, Sissy Spacek, Jay O. Sanders, Laurie Metcalf, Edward Asner, Jack Lemmon, Vincent D’Onofrio, Michael Rooker, Pruitt Taylor Vince, John Candy and Lolita Davidovich, just to name a few. Damn, that's good casting!

that why they are re releasing it.. 8)

from dvd.ign.com:

Warner Home Video will release a two-disc Special Edition DVD of Oliver Stone's controversial Academy Award-winning film JFK on November 11, just two weeks shy of the 40th anniversary of President Kennedy's death.

The new two-disc edition, now the third release of the film on DVD, will contain the 205 minute film in widescreen anamorphic format with a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio soundtrack. Among the special features will be Beyond JFK¸ the documentary that explores the many conspiracy theories associated with Kennedy's assassination. The documentary contains newsreel and interview footage, eyewitness accounts with many of the true-life people portrayed in the film JFK. There will also be 12 extended or deleted scenes and a commentary track by director Oliver Stone.

JFK will have a suggested price of $19.95.

What's the difference between this release and the snapper 2-disc edition? Is it just the case? Or are the features different as well?

Grabe! Mukhang mapapabili na naman ako nito. Binili ko yung unang 2 Disc Set nito...I think noong time na yun, di pa alam ng Warners kung paano ipapackage ang DVDs nila that needed 2 discs at least. I think this was the very first one, maybe correct me if I'm wrong. Pero their solution back then was to just insert the 2nd disc somewhere in that damned snapper case.  Nakakascratch tuloy.  Then they went for a DVD-18 for Superman. Some people like those discs pero ako ayoko talaga ng DVD 18. Parang sobrang delicate hawakan. Buti na lang naisipan nilang gawin yung packaging nila which started with Citizen Kane, I think, yung slipcase. I really like that packaging na, and I'm glad ganitong packaging gagawin nila for this new 2 Disc of JFK.

According to the review, the only difference with the previous release is a new documentary and the packaging. the other features and transfer has just been ported over from the previous release.

The Blu-ray Disc features premium hardcover book packaging with press material and photographs from the film. The disc includes the director’s cut of the film and all of the extras from the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD release. The new documentary featured as part of the UCE DVD release out the same day is not included on the Blu-ray release.

SD with more features than BD ???

SD with more features than BD ???

I love this movie and love to see all the documentary..This is what I really don't understand, thats why sometimes I'm getting to hate hidef ;D..If BD is a premium product over dvd then they should make it all worth it. All features should be there imo..I'm sure bd version is more expensive pa?

Good observation.

My theory is that they included less features for the BD for 2 reasons:

(a) The customer will buy it to get the advantage of a high def format; and
(b) Other features can be included later in a subsequent BD release to convince you to double-dip.  ;)

The standard Ultimate Collectors Edition will be priced at $39.98 SRP, while the Blu-Ray, which will include a hardcover book packaging and press materials and photos from the film, will be priced at $34.98 SRP.

No, probably because SD has better packaging than its BD counterpart  ;D

"Premium hardcover book packaging with press material and photographs from the film" are for the BD, right?

On the live action front, just in time for the Presidential election, Warner will deliver a 3-disc JFK: Ultimate Collector's Edition on DVD, including special packaging, 3 hours of bonus content and collectible memorabilia, as well as an all new documentary, The Kennedy's: America's Emerald Kings. This title will also be available on Blu-ray Disc format in Digibook packaging.

Is digibook the same as digipack?  ;D

According to the site, yes. Sounds like SD was treated better in terms of packaging.

Is digibook the same as digipack?  ;D

So I guess Digibook is a hardcover book packaging  ::)

That's a good trend for packaging.  That way, the pirates will not be able to keep up.

So the DVD is really more expensive  :o  I assumed it was a typo, and the prices were accidentally interchanged.

Can we still say that BD is for the elite?  ;D

As for digipak and digibook...

I think digipak looks like this:

And digibook looks like this:

No, I don't think so.

I hotlinked the picture from this site:

My impression is that Warner is only doing it for the classic titles.
