Title: So many brands, so many models to choose from. HELP!
Post by: alcavey on Apr 16, 2012 at 09:15 PM
Hello po mga master.
Nalalapit na po ang birthday ng aking ina
at nagpromise ako na bibili ako ng tv para sa sala namin.

Akala ko madali lang kasi pwede ko naman i search nalang sa net and surely may reviews ang mga yon.
Pero nagkamali ako. Kakagaling ko lang sa SM Appliance center. Kinuha ko ung mga models at brands.
Tas tnry ko na i google. BOOM! Sablay pala. Maraming walang reviews and of course wala ring comparisons.
I guess I should have expected na may variation ang models ng bansa nila from ours.

Anyway, gusto ko sana pumili from 32-42"
and my budget is 20-40k.

Pa recommend nalang po ng sa tingin niyong best value for my money.
Marami pong salamat! :D

or 42x30-- hd ready but good value for money. (24,000 +)
or samsung 43d490 --hd ready and 3d capable (P29,000)
kung gagamitin mo sa gaming at ikakabit sa computer,
sony 42ex410 LED (38,000)
or Toshiba

Pasensya na po at hindi ko naisaad ang plano ko :D

Uhm. Mga gagawin namin sa tv:

Confirmed:
1)Cable TV definitely
2)HD Movie Playback (yung tropa ko nagiimback ng hd movies sa external hd niya, pero as of now wala pa ko bluray or hdmi player.. pwede naman po i connect rekta ung hd sa mga tv ngayon diba?)
3)Connect to PC (gagawin ko po to paminsan-minsan. Para manood ng HD movies, maglaro ng 2k12, or pag trip ko lang mag facebook sa malaking screen! Kaya naman siguro ng Radeon HD 6790 ko yun)
Optional:
3)Console gaming? (wala parin akong ps3 or xbox 360 pero malamang bibili rin ako by June)

Salamat po sa reply sir halvert!

Hello sir airnolds. Ano pong model kinuha niyo?
I asked sir vic what 42 incher would be his top pick.
And he recommended the Samsung 40D5000.

OK kay sir vic of SnS.
Yung Samsung, may iba lang kasing minalas sa model na yun, like si oznola. Pero baka ok na ngayon

Sa SM cash price ba yung Sony 42ex410? Try mo sa market place dito, may seller nagbebenta for 34,500
http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,161334.0.html (http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,161334.0.html)

Finally, let your eyes decide. Pa-audition ka ng iba-ibang brands using one video source para makita mo ano pinaka-ok sa iyo

@halvert

Onga po chief eh. Nabasa ko rin yun. Nagka issue si sir oznola sa backlight bleeding.
Buti nalang nirefund ng samsung, albeit taking a long time to do so :)
Pag po mamimili na ko ng tv, aside from backlight bleeding, what other faults should i be looking for?

I've found something helpful on the net regarding ^ this query:
http://www.tested.com/news/how-to/articles/584-how-to-spot-5-common-defects-in-your-lcd-warning-cannot-unsee/
of course i would have to prepare my black, white, and rgb backgrounds but that shouldnt be too much of a problem with a usb flash disk

@mikz023

Sa mga nabasa kong thread ok naman daw po. Maski first person games pa.

bro, i've been using the samsung 43D490 (from SNS) since september 2011 for all my gaming consoles (ps3 & xbox360) and my laptop.. also the USB port reads every single HD file i throw at it (almost all pala)..

anyways.. there's a new model with less reflective screen and wifi..

so i suggest you go for the new samsung 43E490, it's 3d capable, plays all media thru USB /wifi PC streaming..
just got one kanina sa ansons ATC for 34k 12 mos.  ;) free 2 pcs. 3d glasses and a mitsubishi desk fan.. just ask for a price match if they give you that crazy 38k SRP...  ;D

another friendly reminder.. never buy from SM Appliance Southmall.. pricey and walang masyadong idea yung mga salesman sa product na binebenta nila.. so all you get is sales talk and nothing more except the price pala.. hehe  ;D

just go straight to ATC (ansons)..  ;D

Post by: alcavey on Apr 17, 2012 at 07:36 PM
thanks for the tip sir arudorin!
as a matter of fact, kakagaling ko lang ulet sa sm kanina.
just to look at the sony 42ex410, samsung 40d5000, and the lg 42kl450.
Grabe.. despite knowing what models to look out for.
Ang hirap parin pala talaga pumili kasi parang ang gaganda nmn ng picture quality ng mga nakadisplay.
One particular panel that grabbed my attention was the Samsung LA-40d550. Parang mas lamang pa nga ng onti sa UA-40d5000.
Will visit anson's town center as soon as i can! :D
Title: Re: So many brands, so many models to choose from. HELP!
Post by: arudorin on Apr 17, 2012 at 08:04 PM
yes, it's really hard to choose nowadays, sobrang competitive na ng mga prices ng samsung and LG.. unlike before.. one thing i learned is..

always remember to haggle and price match (not applicable sa SM.. hehe  ;D )
actually im on my way na sa SNS kanina, good thing we dropped by ATC to eat kanina.. nakasave pa ko ng time and gas.. hehe  ;)

my verdict is.. if you're looking for picture quality and features like 3d go for the sammy plasma.. but if you're looking to save on electricity go for led 40d5000.. good luck on your hunt..  ;)

This is a 42" Smart TV with an Android OS that goes for only 23K. :o
It comes with a Wireless Mini Keyboard & TouchPad and the Qube Subwoofer Speaker System, the keyboard is very much like the MEDE8ER,that approximately goes for 2K and the speakers are being sold for Php995.00, so basically you'll have a Smart LED TV, that goes for about 20K  ;D

(http://www.buyqube.com/Qube%20Website%20New%20Design/Products/Monitor/42%20Monitor/Qube42SmartTV.jpg)

There's a year's warranty for "Product replacement" afterwhich, your'e on your own.  :o
.........however if one makes full use of it and outlived a year, you'll still be a winner: it's just like youv'e acquired a Smart TV for a price of a 32" monitor. ;) ;D

So I was finally able to check out other stores aside from SM appliance center. Haha. I went to Festival mall and to ATC. Plus I had Sir Vic send me sns' pricelist. The more I know, the harder it gets to decide. So here's our contenders.

For 32 inchers:

Panasonic 32c3 (lcd)
>17k@sns [531pesos/inch]
>19k@ansons [593pesos/inch]
>18k@automatic centre [562pesos/inch]

LG 32LK450 (lcd)
>17.5k@sns [546pesos/inch]
>16k@avant [500pesos/inch]

Sony 32cx520 (lcd)
>19.8k@sns [618pesos/inch]
>19.7k@ansons [615pesos/inch]
>22k@avant [687pesos/inch]

Sont 32ex420 (lcd)
>22.5k@sns [703pesos/inch] w/ dvp-srp120
>25k@automatic [781pesos/inch]

The Panasonic 32c3 is a good choice for this size according to sir Carlo's review in the "Christmas Flat Panel Picks" thread. And so is the Lg 32lk450. I haven't come across the cx520 or the ex420 much on PinoyDVD though, so I'd like everyone's input on those because the prices aren't bad at all. As a matter of fact, I would have gotten the Sony 32cx520 if I didn't know any better.

The sole 37 incher:

LG 37lk450 (lcd)
>26k@avant w/ht356 [702pesos/inch]

I've heard that the lk450 series is a pretty solid buy whether its the 32, 37, or 42 panel your buying.
But I've heard that the 37 incher is less prone to backlight bleeding. Is there any truth to that?

40inchers:

Samsung 40d5000 (led)
>32.3k@sns [807pesos/inch]

Samsung 40eh5000
>30k@sns [750pesos/inch]
>30k@ansons [750pesos/inch]
>36k@avant [900pesos/inch]

Samsung 40d550 (lcd)
>30.5k@sns [762pesos/inch]

Sony 40cx520
>32k@avant [800pesos/inch]

I know for a fact that the Sammy 40d5000 is a good choice and is highly recommended by Sir Vic.
Its just that I'm kinda wary about this model because of sir Oznola's experience with it. And also, its getting harder to find this model since it has been replaced by the 40eh5000 which is also at a competitive price. And since the 40eh5000 is fairly new, its still kinda early to give a verdict if this model lives up to its predecessor. A lot of people are also happy with their 40d550 but as mentioned above, its been getting harder and harder to find the D series because the E series came out this month and the dealers seem to be proactively replacing the D models. And they didn't have the E model counterpart on display.
The Sony 40cx520 is just an after-thought here since i found it on sale at avant. What do you guys thing about that?

42inchers:

Panasonic 42ut30 (plasma 3d)
>36k@sns [857pesos/inch]

Panasonic 42x30 (plasma)
>24k@sns [571pesos/inch]

LG 42LK450 (lcd)
>26k@sns [619pesos/inch]
>28k@avant [666pesos/inch]
>28k@sm

LG 42pw350 (plasma 3d)
>31.5k@sns [750pesos/inch]
>30k@avant [714pesos/inch]
>35k@sm [833pesos/inch]

Sony 42ex410 (led)
>38k@sns w/ davtz135 [904pesos/inch] dav-tz135 worth 10k 29k [666inch/pesos]
>34k@ansons [809pesos/inch]

I guess its just a toss up between models since they're all good panels. My first choice of course would be the 42ex410 (as recommended by Sir Carlo in the "Christmas Flat Panel Picks" thread). My only take away is that its rather pricey. The panasonic models, 42ut30 and 42x30 are held in high regard here at Pinoydvd. Its just that I haven't seen these models in action. Its kinda disappointing that in showrooms, there are lots of Samsungs, Sonys, Lgs, Devants, but only a couple of Pannys. And as usual, the lk450 is a solid choice for that price point.

43inchers

Samsung 43d490 (plasma)
>30k@sns [697pesos/inch]

Samsung 43e490 (plasma 3d)
>29.5k@sns [686pesos/inch]
>30.8k@ansons [716pesos/'inch]
>34k@avant [790pesos/inch]

Samsung 43e450 (plasma)(2ndtier?)
>27k@sns [627pesos/inch]

Samsung 43d450 (plasma)(2ndtier?)
>26k@avant [604pesos/inch]

I've seen the 43e490 in action alongside 5 other samsung panels (at western, festival) and I must say, it does make its case as a top pick for those shopping for new panels. I don't really know much about the difference between the d490 and e490, but I'm sure its going to be harder to find the d490 if I ever opt for that one. The d/e450s here are just after-thoughts in case you guys have something to add.

~~~~~~~
So even, after all this research. I still cant decide which one to get.
Can you guys tell me your top 3 choices para mapagtabi tabi ko sila sa stores?
Get a 2012 model, if you can.  I would recommend the 40eh5000, a fairly good sized LED with HD movie support.  And the tv looks good, too.
thank you for posting the prices,alcavey.so i guess i narrowed it down to these 3:
pana 3d full hd th-42ut30s 37K
LG 42pw350 31500
Samsung 43e490 29500
i guess pana wins,eh?unless i opt to go for a 50' non 3d tv in the LG 50pa4500 for 35k.
thoughts?
Given those choices po, I would go for Pana 42ut30 kasi po nirecommend ni sir Halvert.
Although ang nakikita ko palang in action, yung 43e490 and it is impressive.
But, if the 43e490 is no different from the 43d490, you might want to read this first:
ganda nga nung ichura nung sammy..pero the reviews are middle of the road at best.
hindi naman talaga kelangan ng 3d,as i doubt we'd be watching in 3d all the time sa bahay..so i guess itong panny,samsung at yung 50' na LG na lang pagpipilian ko.
maaudition nga sa SnS to so i can judge with my own eyes na lang rather than through someone else's  :)
Dumaan ako kanina sa Sights and Sounds, shangrila plaza.
Unfortunately, wala si Sir Vic, and wala ring stocks ng mga choices ko :(
So I ended up going to ATC Anson's.
I let my eyes decide between the Bravia 42ex410 and Sammy's new 40eh5000.
And I went home with the lovely Sony 42ex410 for 33.5k straight cash (with free wall bracket!)
I'm currently downloading HD clips, gonna put it on my usb stick, and plug it in later.
Imma record the unboxing process as well  ;D
Thank you everyone who contributed on this thread, and of course thanks to PinoyDVD for helping me make my choice.  ;)
Will do.
Still trying to get my hands on true HD clips.
Parang nakukulangan pa ko sa mga nadownload ko sa youtube eh.
Kahit na 1080p na mp4 files (na less then 50mb) parang "meh"
Unlike yung mga trailer sa showroom na rekta media player > hdmi port and I would assume na large size video files. Wow na wow.
PS: Yung avengers trailer na nadownload ko sa youtube (approx 77mb looks fantastic!)
And also I tried looking at these;
http://www.pbase.com/jackcnd/1080p_tests
and so far so good!
I'm also downloading demo clips from the manufacturers themselves at
http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/high-definition-trailers.php
Haven't watched those ^ yet, pero I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Parang ayaw na namin ipa-wall bracket kasi mag-aagawan sila ng attention nung painting, so pinatong ko nalang sa narra coffee table.
I'm not sure kung kelangan pa namin kumuha ng more decent looking tv stand kasi it serves its purpose naman, and its sturdy!
I also hooked it up with my 2.1 speaker system para may "ooomph" naman ang movie viewing ko, and so far I'm content. Maybe further along the line, I'll get myself a 5.1 or maybe even a 7.1. Ipon ipon muna.
As far as HD movies go, wala akong masabi.. Its everything I hoped it would be.
Sa video source nalang magkakatalo. I acquired a copy of Cars2 (7.65gb bluray rip) and it was perfect.
And then the Transformers Trilogy (1.7gb each. Really good encoders. Despite the low size, still 1080p, albeit not as perfect, still a very acceptable compromise)
Napa mura nga yung tropa ko when I invited them over!  :D
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8028/7139040389_3abf13507e.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/alcavey/7139040389/)
_DSC5059 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/alcavey/7139040389/) by JntLee (http://www.flickr.com/people/alcavey/), on Flickr
And then of course, connecting my rig.. Tried VGA to VGA, DVI to HDMI, and then finally acquired a standard HDMI to HDMI cable (1.8m 250php from PC Express).
As expected, hdmi offered the best quality as far as my eyes could tell, plus no need for additional audio in.
Gaming bliss.. 2k12, Lost Planet2, Skyrim, Devil May Cry4..
This bravia boasts incredible greens.. I have some 1080p photos here with grids, 1 pixel text, gradients, bars, etc. The red and blue weren't as perfect but that should be fixed with some calibration.
Unfortunately though, it looks like not even Sony is free from clouding/backlight bleeding.
Impossible to see when there's a source of light, and barely visible when in complete darkness.
At first, my friend and I didn't see any bleeding at all(even with the lights off).
But I just had to make sure and see it thru the lens of my camera. And then lo and behold, there it was.  :'(
I contemplated whether I should return it or not, pero sabi ni Ma wag na daw.
I was overreacting daw and they don't even notice it.
Sa camera lang talaga kitang kita. So I decided, that I could live with the flaw, plus sigurado hindi rin nila makikita sa Anson's yun kasi ang liwanag sa showroom. And hindi rin naman guaranteed na wala ring sakit yung replacement panel.  :-[
Tama yung sinabi nila, dapat hindi mo hinahanap ang backlight bleeding.. Haha. Mabwibwiset ka lang.
Moving on!
Ang reklamo ko lang sa kanya is USB playback.
We already know na it doesn't decode dts, but it also doesn't decode vorbis.
So I had to covert them to AAC then remux with the video file. No biggy.
Ang hassle lang is soft subs with mkvs.
I'm fond of watching anime, and most of it are in mkvs nowadays.
I tried everyting.. Extracting the subtitle file (srt, ssa, etc) then renaming it exactly the same as your video file then putting them in the same folder.. Didn't work!
Eventually gave up and decided to just reencode the file and hard subbing it.
Strangely enough, even after selecting BURN-in subs in Handbrake, it still wouldn't display it when I selected the container to be MKV. But it did when I selected mp4.
So para makaiwas sa hassle, pag manunuod ako ng may subs, rekta pc nalang via HDMI.
At the end of the day, ang masasabi ko lang.. I've fallen in love with this particular panel.
