Title: What's next after buying a new Panel?
Post by: alcavey on Apr 28, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Hello po mga kapatid.
First time owner po ng flat panel.

mga HD Trailers and Music Videos palang; approx 50mbs lang yun from youtube.
Masyadong malaki kasi yung full/tru HD movies para i download!  :'(
(currently downloading cars2. almost 8gb!)

So ang tanong po is, what's next para ma enjoy ko ang bagong tv ko?

>Ps3? (For gaming and bluray playback, di po ba? Kaso from what I've heard limited ang file format support and hanggang fat32 lang siya)

>Simpleng dvd player? What's that about?)

>Bluray player? (for straight up bluray disc playback. alam ko meron under 4k sa cd-r king? tama ba?)

or

>yung mga NMT that I've been hearing so much about? (Clueless po ako about NMTs.

And last question.. Kelangan ko ba talaga yang mga yan^?

Hindi po bat pwede ko naman i connect ang pc ko sa hdtv ko thru either a) vga to vga b)dvi to hdmi c)hdmi to hdmi? I don't mind the hassle of doing it everytime I wanna watch some flicks anyway.

As a matter of fact natry ko na nga po i connect using option A! ok naman po yung games.
Ayun nga lang walang audio. Haha. Hopefully may audio na sa option B and C (will try later)

And more importantly, iba po ba yung quality ng video playback pag ps3/dvd player/bd player/nmt to hdtv compared with
pc to hdtv (using vlc or media player classic) or same lang rin?

TIA PinoyDVD brethren!

Limited resolution yata ang tv pag ginamit as monitor via vga.If hdmi naman, hindi full hd ang laptop, unless your laptop can display full hd. I do not know via tv usb if kaya full hd. If satisfied ka naman sa current setup video wise, then sa sound ka nalang upgrade for that cinema feeling.. let the kulam force be with you..  ;)

Just get a media player w/ a 2tb HDD & you're good to go  ;)

..But if you seek for more like sound quality & explosiveness, naku then thats the start of the itch infection :D

Salamat po sa mga input niyo!  ;)

Big improvement na agad from the panel's feeble 20w speakers.

Nagexperiment ako dun sa pc connections.
May slight improvement siya kapag dvi, and as a matter of fact content na ko sa display quality.
Ayun nga lang, wala pa ring audio in. Haha.
So later bibili ako ng hdmi cable.

My friend brought over his ps3 and I also got to test out connecting my pc via hdmi cable and I could not fault the display quality!  ;D

So I'm definitely considering buying either a media player or a ps3(doubles as bluray player).
Or perhaps and external HDD first.

I suggest after buying a PS3, go get your self an NMT. If in case you want to watch your HiDef MKV's

congrats on your display panel.

if you like games over movies, PS3 muna

check your display with a USB storage if it works on all your files, USB ka na muna and grab a huge storage and randomly play video with various formats. however, if may sablay, (likely), go grab an HD player coz panels do not have codec updates unlike NMT. NMT = Network Media Tank, or HD Media player

I'd go for a simple NMT + 2TB disk game na yan :) 2TB ~ 300+ movies so decide what kind you like in them,  keeping in mind when its listed there, kids can access (if you have one at home).

The USB playback is definitely flawed.
At first, I had trouble playing .mkvs with dts and vorbis audio codecs, but I figured out how to change them to aac then remux with the video file using Popcord mkv audio converter.

My main problem now are subtitles.
Lots of my mkv files(anime) have soft subs which we can simply enable/disable when played on our PCs
but no option to do so in this Bravia's usb playback.

I appreciate it!

edit:
After a whole day of experimenting.. extracting the subs, saving it as .srt, .sub, .ssa, .avs, etc
changing it from UTF-8 to ANSI and Unicode, it seems like making soft subtitles appear is downright impossible.

So I gave in and decided to re encode the video file while Hard subbing it.
Took a few tries! Strangely, when I selected mkv as the container it would not show, but when I selected the mp4 container, it did.

So problem solved! Mapagtyatyagaan pala muna ang usb playback  ;D

ok lang to remux pero nakakapagod din over time if you have to do it everytime.  :)

try to move your soft sub to the same folder as your file, rename exactly as you named *.avi *.mpg, but with the subtitle extension (.sub or .srt, etc) hope that works for you.

you can follow this order -

1. NMT + large capacity HDD with goodies
2. AV Receiver + 2.0 speakers
3. Center Speaker
4. Surround Speakers
5. Sub-woofer
6. PS3, XBox, or Wii if you're into gaming or BD player - this may go into any of the sequence
