Title: Need help in my HT set-up
Post by: kofranks on Sep 16, 2012 at 07:00 PM
I need assistance on how and what to use for my HT set-up at the least price.

I have the following HDMI video sources: Bluray player, DVD player, Media player and Sky Cable HD box.

I want to hook these to both my Plasma TV and Projector all via HDMI.

Sound will be hooked to my Yamaha RX-V459 receiver via optical and/or coax. My AV Receiver does not have HDMI port.

Any idea on what I need? (switchers or splitters). Where can I get these.

Currently, this is the set-up:

To Plasma:
Sky Cable HD box is hooked to HDMI port 1.
DVD, Bluray and Media Player is hooked to HDMI port 2 using a 3-port switcher.

Video to Projector:
Sky Cable HD via component cable to Component 1
Bluray via component cable to Component 2
Media player via yellow video cable to Video port
DVD player via s-video to S-video port

Audio to AV Receiver:
Sky Cable HD via coax cable to DVD coax port
Bluray via coax cable (shared with Sky Cable HD) using splitter
Media player via optical cable to DTV/CBL optical audio port
DVD player via optical cable to DVD optical audio port

Want to connect all video via HDMI to maximize picture quality. If possible also to maximize 5.1 channel audio to my AV Receiver.

Thanks.

kofranks,

few options:
a. PM mo si brader anya, i seem to recall may optical switcher siya  + HDMI switcher

b. If its mostly HDMI sources you have na, I've seen HDMI switches as well (multi HDMI in, single HDMI out) . this is most ideal rather than wiring everything to your PJ.

if DTS 5.1 ka lang and dont foresee any upgrade in the next 3 years ng AVR, option b. (since it has HDMI video and audio from your primary HDMI sources). Keep in mind between composite and component video, go for component (1080i).

c. long term, might be worth investing sa DTS-HD / TrueHD , ipon mode na lang coz it will reduce the amount of cable and para all HDMI ka na :) save up for $300 and meron ka ng very decent preowned AVR. the marketplace preloved/preowned is a great way to catch a bargain from upgrading members
