Title: X-Men 2 (R3) & X-Men 1.5 (R3)
Post by: firewired on Oct 31, 2003 at 10:44 AM: Viva Video announced Thursday, 30 October, that X-Men 2 SE and X-Men 1.5 will be simultaneously launched in the Philippines on November 25. Both are 2-disc DTS releases that closely mirror their R1 counterparts.

Disc details next week.

Just to clarify, Nov. 4 is the release of the VCD, not the DVD. The DVD won't be available until later this month.

Good or bad – because of Asia's piracy problem we get movies released at the same time or within a week of the US releases which is great – but even greater is that we get DVD releases in Hong Kong at least 4-6 weeks before the US to stop that leg of piracy – and the price of the DVD's are about the same price (in the US) so in a way the piracy problem has helped this movie fanatic in Hong Kong keep up to date with US movies.

I wanted to show you this HONG KONG edition of the X2 DVD box set.

It is the Hong Kong region 3 version of X2 which has been officially released this week – I believe the US needs to wait till the end of the month.

The HK DVD features are identical to the US version but this DVD comes in a metal can with the main poster art on the front – it slides open to reveal the DVD's on a cushiony black material. I'd say that was the only difference as I have seen the list of extra's and they look identical.

Loved the movie so I had to pick this up right away, but quick comments on the Special Features: lots of stuff there but nothing super exciting. The 1 hour making of documentary is insightful, the deleted scenes are nothing special, the evolution of the X-Men is redundant for X-Fans (and a bane for enemies of Uncanny X-Men writer Chuck Austen – he is interviewed about his Nightcrawler prequel comic) – great to see the step-be-step sequence of the opening Nightcrawler scene but the rest is just usual stuff – very informative nonetheless (did you notice Jean Grey’s "Phoenix" jewelry and clothes??? – I didn’t but did when they pointed it out).

Anyways – it's a definite buy DVD because this was the best film of Summer 2003. Here's looking to X3 – hopefully with Angel, Sentinels, The Danger Room and the other stuff they left out of this one!

indeed youre right the 400 bucks justifies the casing, i already saw the R3 version here in astro.

couldn't get the url right so I typed it in the google bar
the results returned a Hong Kong office. The conversion
ends up as only 1,107.47 PHP.

Hmmm... that's a little over 200Php + 30Php post over the local release.

The back cover only lists minimal features, but actually all of the special features listed in the R3 Hong Kong release are intact, but casing is genuine Amaray instead of tin case. An insert is also included. Price is P900.

Post by: toshiba on Nov 28, 2003 at 01:52 AM: 'also got the local r3 x-men last night. prints on the discs are identical to the r3 tin case edition. there are 10(!) subtitle options, including tagalog. the back of the dvd cover is printed, also listing the chapters so it can be transferred to a transparent dual dvd case if you want. unfortunately from what i know, there's no dual clear amaray case so why bother... :)

I was at Astro SM Fairview today and I was informed that X-Men 1.5 and 2 are both P900. If Music 1's price is indeed P700, does Viva know that Astro is overpricing their DVD?

The soundtrack says "DOLDY DIGITAL 5.1" Turn off tuloy ako. I'd rather buy the R1 copy. Sayang, DTS pa naman. >:( Attention VIVA DVD proof-readers..kung meron man...please be careful about these little details. These things are big factors when it comes to buying original R3 DVD's. It is one of the reasons why I dont buy p.....d DVD's. :(

I believe the covers are printed abroad, and not everyone knows the tagalog language. But Dobly Digital, cmon..almost everybody who buys DVD's worldwide knows about this "word" >:(

And is there a special two-pack containing x2 and 1.5?
I already have the first R1 release of X1...sulit ba yung features ng 1.5?

The guys at video city opened multiple copies and puro one disc lang lahat. Wala yung special features disc. Luckily, the manager said he'll "try" to get the 2nd disc for me but I have to wait for a week hindi sila nagrerefund. Does the regular x-men 1 have 2 discs as well or 1 disc edition lang sya?

AFAIK, Xmen 1 is a single disc release yung Xmen 1.5 ang two disc

Out of curiosity from what I've read on this thread, I peeked through the X2 opaque case and I could have sworn I saw only 1 disc inside, ala X1, so the usual caveats may apply. My older 2-disc X2 release came in grey amaray.

Also saw heaps of Passion of the Christ, and a whole lotta other Nick Cage movies, including Nat'l Treasure, all P299.

Anyone seen any X1.5 around?

Too bad that Xavier and Magneto's scenes together were too short. They were together again in The Last Stand, but that film was essentially inferior to X2.

Interestingly, the X2 DVD had a deleted scene that showed Cyclops being "re-educated" by Stryker. The scene explains why Cyclops went against Jean Grey.

One of the reasons why I bought X2 on DVD was not only because it is one of my favorite superhero movies, it's also because I read X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills.
