Me? Yes, because I still don't have an HDTV or a Blu-ray player or a Blu-ray disc yet.
-
Yes because if it is on sale and at the same time if the movie is just good to see but not to collect.
-
Yes. A lot of DVD video quality still looks great, even on 32-inch LCD screens. Especially the older DVDs.
-
Mabuhay!
Yes!
-
Yes! Of course, price would still be a primary factor.. :)
-
yup becuase most classic, vintage and rare and cult titles still use the DVD format
also big studios at this point don't see any potential big profits in converting old grainy movies for high def video release with the exception of Criterion titles which is a niche market
HD pushers are too busy figuring out how to milk the present crop of big-budget blockbuster CG intensive movies for all they're worth
plus old TV shows that were made to fit conventional 3:4 TVs won't be coming in HD any time soon
-
Very rarely. Usually just rare movie/TV titles that I purchase abroad, or for local movies.
And other than Star Cinema titles that never go on sale, I usually wait for local/foreign titles to go on sale before I purchase them. No more rush to watch anything. I still have a very big backlog, anyway.
-
Most blurays I buy are of sci-fi or fantasy movies. Or if the cinematography is really good or there's a certain look to the film that a director applied. I recently got the DVDs for Source Code and Jackass 3 on sale at Astro. And I don't need to see a 'frickin bluray of You've Got Mail, The 40-Year Old Virgin or Bagets 1 and 2 and Mano Po.
Of course, I can't wait for Himala and Oro to be available on bluray.
Here's my loot from my recent trip to HK. I'm not being a curmudgeon or defending the DVD format in any way but, whether bluray or DVD, it's just a matter of preference as of now. As always, change the price, you change the preference.

ETA: By the way, the Empire Records Remix: Special Fan Edition, is terrible. The original version had better pacing and was better edited.

Yes. Hindi pa afford ang Blu Ray this time, pero hopefully makapag upgrade na din.
Note: I agree with the post above me.
-
Yes I still buy DVDs, I collect WW2 movies and documentaries and most of them are in DVD format
-
I do.
-
Not anymore since I started buying BDs
-
-
since the birth of hdd-based HD movies, NO.

the last dvd i bought prior to the tdkr dvd i bought 2 days ago was the last harry potter. i only bought both to complete my sets. frankly, i lost interest ever since the studios started pushing blu. my thinking was, if i shift to blu, what happens when they roll out the next new format?

It's a question we never fail to ask ourselves since the betamax days. ;D
-
Still do. There are some films that don't look good in HD, methinks.

when I started buying blus, I stopped buying DVDs.. 3D is here and Im starting to buy titles I still dont have in BD format. Just the same, most of the 3D titles has the blu-ray version in the package. I dont think Ill upgrade my blu-ray titles to 3D unless the movie is really a favorite..
-
After buying Avatar Extended Edition R1, I decided not to buy anymore.
Will buy blus instead.
-
If an opportunity presents itself like tv series, I would still buy the dvd.
-
This is actually one of the more interesting topics I've encountered here in pdvd inawhile.
And it's actually about DVD's ;D
Well, I share the same sentiments as Dan.
I buy my favorit blockbusters on Blu such as Avengers, The Dark Knight etc. etc.
But for old movies and TV shows I still buy DVD's though the frequency of my DVD purchases have greatly decreased compared to the past 3 years.
-
Some of us may also have overlooked the fact that most bd packages contain the dvd version kaya we are actually still buying dvds di nga lang nagagamit.
-
yes. lagi parin naman kasi may DVD na nilalabas sa mga new movies. so malayo pa siguro mawawala dvd. parang audio cd, til ngayon meron parin. saka mura. :)

for tv series I tend to just download them unless the blu version of a fave tv series is on sale. pag 9.99 per season pinapatulan ko na rin..
-
The only time na napapabili ako ng DVDs ay kapag nakapackage sya sa bd na bibilin ko. I stop buying DVD only last 2010

I use the included DVD to transfer the film to my portable devices.
-
Wala na akong nabili since last year but I plan to buy ones that I enjoy watching. They're getting really affordable. I still look into stores and check for titles I might like.
-
yes 2x a month. pero puro sale! :) non Viva released. :)
-
Hahahaha O0...
-
Most of the remastered pinoy classics probably won't come out on blu-ray, so DVD's will still have to be on the shopping list for the foreseeable future.
-
Yes, I still buy DVDs and Blu-Rays, and sometimes even still buy vhs tapes if I see them in a thrift store.
-
-
Yes Tagalog movies ;D
-
Yes definitely.
For movies I like that are not in BD yet. My bro in NZ recently got me a dvd of A Bronx Tale. It's on sale. Wala dito. And wala sa BD :(
For DVDs on sale at di naman kelangan BD ;D Recently bought Margot at the Wedding, Straw Dogs on sale for P100 only.
-
I still keep some of my dvd lalo na yung me mga special features na wala sa bd version. But since i experienced dvd rot gus2 ko na ibackup lahat yun sa hd.
-
sa multimedia player he he he, hirap kasi mag maintain ng dvd nasisira at nagwa warp sila
-
^advocating piracy? ::)

I dont know if the humidity has something to do with the rot coz fortunately for me, i havent had a single rot in my collection. All are stored inside my HT wherein no sunlight goes in, year long room temperature? Imagine a room in a basement.
To answer the TS, i still do but only the blockbusters, most especially what my kids like..but no more hoarding this time.
-
Yeah I think humidity and average room temp. My very first DVD that I bought in 1998 and the newest ones in 2006, wala ni isang rot.
Kaso I dont buy DVDs or CDs no more kasi a good friend introduced me to something in 2006.

I think I also met your friend. Good guy and very reliable...efficient and convincing pa! :D
Aside from the room temp, all my DVD and CD's are sealed with a plastic....dust free. I was able to buy that DVD plastic in Japan wherein i use a hair dryer to vacuum seal my DVD. As for the CD, i bought that imported thick resealable plastic cover years back for 25cents each. Guess the extra cost is all worth it after all.

bibilhin ko next is Miami Heat 2012 Champions, then next Miami Heat 2013 Champions.
