Very good thread brader, this could also serve as a guide for those who are looking for one. Para they'll know what they have to look for in their search on this neverending upgrade hobby. :)

Mine is a Rotel RC 1550

A Very very good sounding preamp, excellent phonostage (couple of days pa lang on me but so far i am very impressed. :)
Maka Rotel talaga ako maski dati pa. :)

The preamp output of the Rotel RA04SE also is very good for preamp use. Very neutral.

mine is LUXMAN A3032 tube preamp for cdp, rtr, mm cart! -neutral and very musical
EAR834p for my mc carts -dead silent,(im running a 7meter ic from pre to amp)  maybe one of the best phono pre if you pair it correctly with NOS tubes.

yes bro, at least may magkakaidea ang mga katulad ko na di gaano familiar sa character ng mga pre amps since bihira lang ang mga brands meron dito.

I have 3 favorite preamps:

1. Aikido (designed by John Broskie) - I like it for it's being quiet, clean sounding (but not clinical), transparent and dynamic aside from it being a tube based preamp.

2. Lightspeed Passive Attenuator (Using Light Dependent Resistor "LDR") - No sound coloration. No noise/distortion since the signal does not pass thru any mechanical device, unlike potentiometers where you have the wipers in contact with each other every time it is operated.  Very clean sounding and transparent - you hear only your source. It's like a "straight wire approach", as they say since the singal only passes thru the wire and not to any mechanical device.

3. Aikido with Lightspeed as the volume controller

In the future, I hope I can buy or DIY a Tortuga passive preamp: http://6moons.com/audioreviews/tortuga/1.html (http://6moons.com/audioreviews/tortuga/1.html)

Favorite was/is a vintage Yamaha C-70. http://sportsbil.com/yamaha/c-x0_m-x0_t-x0-b.pdf (http://sportsbil.com/yamaha/c-x0_m-x0_t-x0-b.pdf)

It had excellent imaging, was dead quiet and had precise parametric equalizer to match the music genre of choice.
It was not high-end nor complicated, it was just right.

Then I made a mistake of having it serviced and since then it has not sounded the same. Sad every time I look at the unit gathering dust waiting for a trustworthy and knowledgeable repairman.

Thanks sir, actually the integration made it overly complicated as opposed to being simple as Nelson Pass envisioned it to be. But technology sometimes has a price, and the Salas shunt is a complicated piece to make but should serve you well. Unfortunately, wala ako separate Salas shunt that I can release now but it was one of my proposed stand alone projects because it can also be used with other preamps/circuits.

I suggest you finish your original B1, medyo picky lang sa input/output cap kaya yun ang gastusan mo then you can even power it with a laptop psu for starters.

In the future maybe you can build a DCB1, then whip up a Lightspeed for it's volume control or a nos Panasonic motorized pot for a remote control and you should be a happy camper. :)

I had the ARC SP9 MK1 and 2 before. Very open sounding but couldn't get myself to listen for long hours.
Could it be the hybrid design? ... I don't know.
The all-tube SP10 is still one of my favorites which I could listen to hours on end. I had it as a long time loaner but just couldn't afford its princely price tag.

The Flashback Audio pre amp posted above is supposedly a combination of the SP3 and SP6 ...picking up the best from both as they say.
That's why we dubbed it as Control36 ;).
I havent heard the SP6 and only had a brief encounter with a Van Alstine mod SP3.
So cant really tell if the combination in the Flashback Pre is a success.

Nonetheless,a great sounding preamp for me.

I got my inspiration from the first Sonus faber & Audio Research separates that I heard at the Hifi show last 2009. And every year after that, this tandem never fails to amaze me. I liked the synergy and even at low volume andun yung micro details at dynamics. Kahit mahina ang sarap pakinggan, kumpleto ang tunog. But that was the Guarneri & Ref. 3 if I remember it right. And last year was the Amati and Ref. 5 SE which I can not possibly afford for the rest of my life.
Kaya oks na ko dito sa LS17se which ARC claimed as their baby Ref. 3. To my ears they share the same sonic qualities in a bit smaller scale, just right for my smallish room but big leap from my previous pre's when it comes to improvements. Couldn't be happier, I'm a fan. :)

Guys, meron ba sa inyo naka marantz 7 preamp? Or diy man lang? Planning on getting a tube preamp for hybrid setup (NAD 326Bee as power amp). Sana tama ang landas na gusto ko puntahan heheh

this is the most cloned preamp of all time, specially today,
there are a lot of kits coming out of China and Hong-kong...

i heard good reviews from people who used this preamp....
i don't know why, but this amp seems to have a cult following...
i built a clone of this amp and indeed it sounded very good...

i have seen someone bought two of these preamps,
and used them as monoblock preamps, using only one channel per unit...
in the same manner as there are those using the X1oD buffers in pairs, as a monoblock...

Salamat ser tony! Concerned kase ko sa Nad kung ok ba siyang gawing poweramp kung itutuloy ko ang plano. Sana walang problema sa matching ng ss as power at tube as preamp.

when you are in town, you can bring your ss amp to the house we can pair that with my tube preamps for audition....so that maybe you do not do impulse buying...
