Post by: Junnel_ on Aug 22, 2013 at 09:07 AM
I'm setting up a home system starting with a 3D/ SamrtTV which is a 47LA6910. Sabi sakin it can play MKV daw.

If I ever I would need a separate player, since SmartTV ito, kailangan ko ba bilhin is BD player or yung ibang players like multi-media ba yun at home theater PC?

Would appreciate your help.

Or magdala ka ng files (3D or 2D with DTS/Dolby) para matest mo.

Thanks for your response. If ever po may slight issues ang TV sa pagbabasa ng files, can I opt to buy something alternative sa BD player, like HTPC ba yun or NMT? Not sure how they work eh. Pero mas mahal ba ang mga yun? Mukhang for now ang magiging source kasi namin ay files eh, not the disks itself.

if you're going to collect blu-ray discs, get a bd player. otherwise, get a media player.
if you want something more versatile/powerful than a media player (or if you want to turn your blu-ray collection into digital copies on HDDs,) build an htpc.

Thank you.

Yung NMT ba yung media player? If so, what else can it do? And bakit po ito ang sinusuggest nyo?

Also if possible, what are nice brands na di mahal?

Believe me, I really didn't want to ask that question, but I couldn't help it.  ;D

Thanks! :)

Until now I don't have a Bluray disc player. But i am still planning to get one soon. Why? Because my dvd player is conking out so ipapalit ko blu ray disc player that could play all disc formats.

If you have a dvd disc collection, i think ok pa rin magkaroon ng blu ray player to play your discs.

Thank you.

I don't think I would still need a multimedia player since SmartTV naman ang kukunin ko at parang mas marami pang mura na BD players eh. Isa pa, BD players can also play files from the HDD thru USB connection. Plus, yun nga, sometimes, we are fond of collecting classic disks. :)

Ano po ang pinaka mura, matibay,at efficient na BD player na kaya din mag decode ng lahat ng video and audio formats thru disk player and USB? If ever there's one?

:)

do take note that blu-ray players (and firmware updates) released by 2012 are required to implement cinavia content protection.

if you try playing an unauthorized copy of a movie via a blu-ray player's media file capability, cinavia might engage after about 10 minutes of playback, that is if the media file has the audio watermark in place. search for the topic re: cinavia for more info.

Blu ray players are not very good at playing files from HDD. In my experience, mas ok pa media playing capability ng LS5700 and LA6910 tvs ko kesa sa blu ray player ko

Depends on the blu-ray player..  OPPO blu-ray player can play HDD files just fine.. :)  There is no need for a media player in my set-up anymore..

Yeah, i should've qualified na most blu ray players. Haha

For its price, I would be furious if Oppo did not have all the best in the tech that it has.

Doc, have you tried connecting a 3TB HDD to the Oppo?
Based from my experience hanggang 2TB lang narerecognize nya...
But PQ wise Oppo is still better than NMT even the Sigma based and most HTPCs when playing media files(MKVs) ^-^

Sana in future pwedeng install ang xbmc sa OPPO..that would be awesome! Ito ang hinihintay ko!

Actually isa pang kagandahan sa Oppo is may dual HDMI Input cya...
You can connect those NMTs and HTPCs(with XBMC) and use Oppo's video processing ;)

Balak mong mag upgrade brader?

Why not use it diba? ;)
If you want to use the Oppo as a dedicated CD player then 105 is for you but if your just after the PQ improvement then 103 is the practical choice... ^-^

Video processing dapat via OPPO while sound processing via AVR naman.. Throughput lang ang sound from player..

Depende sa receiver or pre/pro mo.

You can shoot both...kaso gastos na naman..kaya budget ang final decision. PQ is really good for 103.

Pero I guess if Oppo 105 ang player then puwede audio processing sa player.. In my case, audio processing is via my ONKYO 5010..

Electrocompaniet EMP-3

Electrocompaniet has done what many companies faced with the same problem has done – buy an off-the-shelf OEM Blu-ray player, and make it EC’s own. In the majority of cases today, that means buying an Oppo, as Electrocompaniet used as the backbone for the EMP3 multichannel universal player. That way, Oppo is the license payer and the audiophile brand gets to act as hot-rodder. But, in so doing, brands like Electrocompaniet invite potential censure; Oppo makes a good product at a keen price and invariably the brand using that Oppo as a platform for its own product needs to add more than a front panel to justify its existence.

In the case of the EMP3, Electrocompaniet takes the standard Oppo BDP-103 platform and runs with it. The unsullied BDP-103 is a fine Blu-ray player in its own right, capable of full 3D picture replay and this part really isn’t touched (screensaver aside). It’s an Oppo strong point and why mess with what’s already good. However, if you paw over the reviews of the Oppo conducted by hi-fi magazines especially, there’s a common consensus that the sound quality of the standard Oppo output stage is a bit of a weak spot. This is where EC comes into its own.

Kung pure analog ang gusto mong marinig, 105 is better kasi it was designed for that sa mga sensitive sa two channel at ayaw gumamit ng DSP. Kung like mo DSP, 103 is enough for PQ and use your 5010 for audio which is good for that (movies and music with DSP). Or all the way sa 105 kung walang problema sa budget.

my take on the topic, a separate bluray player is still good. i think remux hd files take up too much HD space plus it will take time to transfer files kahit usb 3.0 na siya. then there is that delightful feeling building up your bd collection :)

I think yung beta firmware pa lang ata yung sakin...

This I got from OPPO email regarding 3TB HDD:

As long as you are using the latest Official 50-0422 or later Firmware the player will support up to 16TB drives formatted using exFAT and NTFS.

Now I can definitely buy 3 or 4 TB HDDs for my ProBox.. :)
