Title: Networked NMT's UI Controlled via Tablet/Phone
Post by: m0b1u5 on Oct 04, 2013 at 04:13 PM
Hi All,
I had started digitizing my audio CDs for better management and easy access.  I'm currently using WD TV Live (1st Gen, with LAN via ethernet) to play my music files. I would like to have a more convenient way of navigating the contents/playlist in my library as I find it cumbersome to go near the unit or it's line of sight to access the UI. here's my current config

Ext. HDD --> NMT --> AVR (as DAC) Pre-out --> Power Amp --> Speaker
              |
              V
          HDMI to VGA
           converter
              |
              V
          LED Monitor

I want to further simplify this setup and make it more accessible. Is there an NMT in the market that can be connected to a router and control it's UI via an app in tablets or phones. Thanks.

been pondering on this idea too. was thinking phone-to-control-a/v-equipment type app. for all we know there could already be an android app that can control any IR gadget na.

If the need is for your  ripped audio CDs . You can do something like this

Alternately there are commercial units too.

Nice topic.  I have inquired this in one if the popcorn hour thread but no one has replied.  I have a pch a300 and also would like to do the same as what the OP asks.

Available mobile  apps for nmts function just like remote controls . So your UI is still on the monitor or tv

so I guess i will be better off in using a laptop/netbook as my music source then as I can just do a remote connection? or is there a tablet/phone app that I can use to control the players UI?

I use a netbook with a HRT Microstreamer DAC running Foobar200 controlled by Monkeymote for Ipad. Monkeymote is like a mirror of my netbook except it looks better.

It works like a dream! It sounds better than most budget CD players. I started ripping all my CDs to a 3TB seagate central NAS so no wires.
