Title: Anyone tried Dicksmith?
Post by: jalf on Nov 28, 2014 at 01:36 AM
As the subject topic says, has anyone of you guys tried any dicksmith tv's?

I found some DickSmith Flatpanel display at HMR and their selling 50" tvs for as low as 20,850 pesos! The Catch is, they are PAL versions.

So, my question is, is it worth it? Their panels are great, they run at 1920x1080 native resolution, the only thing that bugs me is their sound quality. Which can be solved by using a dedicated sound system for it.

I will mostly use the TV for viewing cable channels, watching DVD from an NTSC dvd player with only the RCA cable option available, and using my HTPC (Home Theater PC) through HDMI port.

My other question would be, how will PAL make a difference? We're using the Destiny Cable's 499 plan which uses a coaxial connection. Do I have to purchase a PAL -> NTSC adapter? How and Why would I need it or does it make any difference?

Thanks PinoyDVD! Nice seeing you guys/gals still here! Been a long time since I last visited this place!  ^-^

I bought a 26 inch version for my mom some 2 years ago as a gift. Working in perfect condition pa rin as of now.

A couple of things:

1. Audition the unit carefuly for dead or stuck pixels.
2. Do the same thing for basag or tunog lata sounding internal speakers.
3. you will need a cable box to get your analog cable's channels working properly with the unit. Dont worry about dvd players, bluray players etc as most of those will run on either pal or ntsc displays - check your player to be safe.

PS - hmr pioneer actually brought out 3 different units for me to audition kasi di pumasa sa akin yung categories 1 and 2 as posted above.

1. Dick Smith is an Australian brand, not american.

2. Hmr does offer warranty. Maybe not as long as other stores, but what can youu expect formthe price.

Thank you guys, Thank you! I appreciate the reply. I shall check with hmr regarding their warranty policy and the available units. Hopefully, there won't be any lemon units.

I'll keep you guys updated if I bought it, and post a semi-review about it here.

Thank you PinoyDVD!

P.S. More input would be appreciated regarding your experience with the DickSmith brand.
