me of all that I tried, it may seem un-believable but its the WHARFDALE Dentons. I would really consider this as a "Super Bang For The Buck Little Box"! Sound is really a good pairing on whatever kind of amp you throw at it. Whether its a Vintage gear, Tube or SS it really produces a very neutral tones, Deep Lows are even capable w/c my Vienna Acoustics cant handle on SAM SMITH's Stay W/ Me at a little high on the knob. On the HIGHs sibilance is really absent w/c sometimes can be fatiguing to our ears. Even TT Guru NOLY (TAS) came to the house & saw the little devils said These Are Great Performers. Indeed they are. Just sharing an experience for a bookshelf that cost no more than P14k ;)
-
Thanks Ken for sharing!
Here's mine:
Fair Priced: Tannoy XT6 Bookshelves
Mid-Priced: Tannoy XT6F Floorstander
Upper-Priced: Reference 3A De Capo MM BE, Tannoy Precision 6.2, Harbeth SHL-5/Plus
-
Magico Mini II for string and wind instruments
Raidho X1 for female voices
Vivid Audio Giya G2 for all music genres
Devore Fidelity Orangutan 0/96 for analog music
-
My favorite is Canton speakers, not sure if meron pa retailer dito, had mine shipped by my friend from Germany, bookshelf type yun akin but everyone says it sounds bigger than it looks
-
My two favorites for audio
1st Reference 3a De Capo BE
2nd PSB Synchrony One B
-
Abram speakers for me (aka JBL Everest clone)... :)
-
Mid 90's, Acoustic Energy AE1 in Quad carpark, forgot the name of the store. My jaw dropped, i could not believe the output these little speakers were putting out. I became an instant fan of AE. Several years later I was able to buy an Aegis 1. Had the same jaw dropping experience :)
-
tannoy fusion 3 - that started the hobby
psb imagine b - next big upgrade in sound quality
xavian piccola - first splash on 6 digit speakers
aurum cantus melody 103 - best value for performance FS
LSA one standard - my return to bookshelf
castle richmond 7i - very strong last song syndrome
;D
-
ive done a lot of auditions but these really stands out. pag nanalo ako sa lotto, eto una kong pagkakagastusan. hehe.
1. Infinity IRS. dito ko lang nadinig ang true bass definition. hindi mo lang maramdaman, easily distinguisable definition ng low frequencies.
2. Vivid Giya. tunog mayaman! in one word- spectral balance!
3. Devore/Naim. my type of sound. nothing stands out but nothings missing. conveys the sound with the right emotions.

It is not the best i heard, but this speaker was the reason i transitioned from HT to 2ch audio some 15 years ago.
Dynaudio Special 25
-
1. audiophile - aaudio proac clone (first generation) , dynaudio audience 42
2. rock - wharfedale 9.6, monitor audio rx2
-

Namimiss ko tuloy ang dati kong Sonus Faber Concertino pre-Home :-[
Super relaxing and smooth ang SQ ^-^

BTW, let me include Epos ES-11 and ES-14
-
Yikes ang mahal naman sa speakers niyo. Harbies are good, I mean excellent but they are in another different level especially the price. The Orangutan are Superb! heard it once in a shop in NYC but a whopping price of $7k something, it must also have to do w/ the high end sources used.
I'm intrigue w/ the DeCApo Ref3A but never had the chance to hear it, who's selling it in Manila?

Sayang to Bro Louie, For keeps nayata to.

Dynaudio or Sonus Bro...

I've heard most of the speakers that we dream about including the Magico U3, Vox Olympian, Tidal Sunray and so on, but the most sublime experience was with Perfect 8 The Force. Sound was so relaxed and realistic.. dito ko lang masasabi na kinilabutan talaga ako. Minsan you have to verify your impression kasi baka naman na overwhelmed ka lang during the first time, which I did by listening to a smaller model made by the same company, very similar din ang listening experience.
one owner said he had other more expensive speakers on his system but this is the only speaker he was able to trick his dog to follow a "sit" command through his stereo.
If ever I reach a point in life where I could afford to put together a $1m stereo system, this will be #1 on my audition list.
-
Most of the speakers I like kinda grow on me. After several years in the hobby searching for the Holy Grail , Here is my list in no particular order. Nothing too fancy.
1. Wharfedale dentons - just need a lot of open space and a powerful amplifier.
2. Celestion sl6 - hard to find a matching amp, nearly gave up but I found the "one" after almost a year of . experimenting.
3. Dynaco A 25 - an all around performer. Easy to match and sound astonishing with marantz 2252 receiver.
-
Infinity Primus 360, paired with a Sun 2a3 clone and LFD Zero mk3.
10 years with me and I think forever na.
-
For me
Monitor Audio RS 1 and RS6 paired with jojod's baby g
Proac that I heard at Audioworld forgot the model, but its a small bookshelf speaker anniversary seroes i think
Dyns ni father jim na naka pair sa dynaco na amp with lightspeed also from jojod
Svs ultra speakers paired with an entry level denon sa demo room ni mikec

Brother Tirso Kumusta kana, nice to hear from you & its sounds better than any Speakers :)
-
from the Marantz Showroom in Makati:
1. GoldenEar Triton 7 - good
2. Martin Logan EM-ESL - better (much bigger soundstage than the Triton 7)
3. B&W 805D - best! (the Triton 7 and ML don't hold a candle vs the diamond's clarity!)
all powered by the Marantz PM-11S3 reference int amp.
PS
my personal setup is a GoldenEar Aon 3 powered by Emotiva XPA-100 power amps. I'm content with its SQ. :)

Best speaker I've heard is harbeth 40.2 in Sounds N Images. Best harbeth if room and budget is not an issue otherwise I can already live with my SHL-5 which can also sound very good when properly tweaked.
-
Looks like the next upgrade of nolax will be a Harbeth Monitor 40.2...WOW! :D

OK jen Thanks for the info. Good Luck on the sale for the AUDIO NOTE. ALMARRO na ba yung next :)
-
The discontinued Sonus Faber Cremona Floorstanders with ring radiator tweets powered by an Audio Research Pre/Pro is totally heaven to my ears. Probably one of the few speakers where I can't find any fault with. Thoroughly engaging!
-
Yung harbeth speakers during the hifi show last 2014

Haha Gastos naman to. This is just a speaker experience thread. Well mai konting pagkukulam naman :D

My Holy grail has always been the Dynaudio Special 25 paired with twin REL's and Classe electronics. Been looking far and wide for a good pre owned pair but no luck yet. My system is built already around it unfortunately obtaining it seems to be elusive. I do love my Contour 1.8MKII's but the Special 25 is indeed a level above it.
-
Adding Voxativ in an Ampeggio DIY box. Reference namin ni Paeng sa Pink Panther theme. Mahangin
-
I have very limited experience with other's set up..but there is one that stand out when I was auditioning for speakers intended for HT usage. The Aurum Cantus Melody 102/103..really loved the sound out of this.
If I will be able to get my own place in the future I will buy back my Dentons lol or use my father's JBL 4312a..maybe a proper set up will do them good.
-
I miss my Infinity 4.5s driven by the ARC D79/ Threshold Stasis combo.
Old school pa rin. :)
Well, that was some 30 years ago.
Have been out of the audio loop na so I can only talk about “old stuff”.
Am a soundstage guy so my partiality to planars … but you need lotsa room to let these breathe. I once hauled a pair of Tympani’s in my smallish bedroom (which was my listening room then) much to my wife’s annoyance. :)
Didn’t work.
Replaced them with the old Quads. Fantastic midrange reproducer but had to let these go since I was wary of it’s reliability.
Downsized to SMGa’s. Loved the Maggie sound so I got the MG 111’s when I had a bigger dedicated listening room. For me, this broke the myth of planars lacking the lows.
Given the adequate power (yes, these babies are hungry), the 7.5 sq foot area can push air enough to get those lows.
I still have the 111s but been hibernating for some time now.
Right now, my daily driver is a pair of Onkyo Liverpool 2 bookselves.
I’m happy with these. Reminds me of my old SL6s.
These rotate with the Sony La Voces.
https://bb3blog.wordpress.com/2015/09/08/the-sony-ss-a5-la-voce-speakers/
I’m sure most modern speakers have that holy-grailed neutrality unlike the colorations introduced by those dinosaurs mentioned above.

JBL 4425, 4343, 4344, 4345 :D
-
I only use vintage and from what I've had, the AR-9, Yamaha NS-1000, JBL 4312, and JBL L-112 were the best sounding.
-
JBL 4425, 4343, 4344, 4345 :D
Ganda 4425 studio monitors but I think it would cost a fortune nowadays :D

Uy David pinost mo pala dito heheh. I'm not worthy but thanks again brad glad you like it.
Di pa din tapos ang gulo pa ng kwarto.

Here's my take if its going to be the best.
Not in particular order:
Wilson Alexandria - Dan D' Agostino
Magico Q5 - Hegel
Von Schweikert VR9 - KR Audio Kronzilla
Vivid G3 - Simaudio
Raidho D5 - Aavik
Focal Utopia - VTL Siegfried
Different flavors but the above combos for me are all engaging, effortless and have the "in the room" effect that is so addicting.
-
Great system Sir Luther ;)

Another one of those vintage speaker To-DIE-For :)
