Sharing our HT set up in the family room.
TV - Toshiba 42 inches
Front & center speakers - Danspeak (gift from generous cousin and uncle)
AV - Onkyo 808 (bought used from another PinoyDVD member)
Rear speakers - from an Onkyo HTIB (included with the 808)
Media player - Egreat R6ii (from toys4geeks way back 2012)
PS3
Pioneer DVD player
The layout of the room is not ideal so we made do with what can be worked on. This is almost the whole room. The brown thing at the lower right is already the stair railing going downstairs. For the rear speakers, LAN, and subwoofer cables, the wife would not allow to be installed on the walls (even with covers), so a cheap carpet was the compromise.

The "rear" speakers are actually placed at the sides. So the HT effects are not perfect.

These are the "kids" PCs, in quotes as the Dad is a heavy user :) The right rear speaker can be seen above the right CPU.

Here's the sub location, together with the seats, and the left rear speaker at the background.

Feel free to comment on how we can improve the set up, specially if it will not involve additional expenses :). Thanks.

I will play around with speaker placement a little bit, spread it out a little more if possible and maybe move it away from the wall.. this will improve soundstaging, esp when listening to music.. I cannot make full assessment of the layout based on the picture, so I'm assuming you set it up this way because of room constraints..
If no room to move, don't sweat it, just enjoy

nice sir. thanks for sharing.. buti ka pa my dedicated room for your HT.

Thanks, the fronts are really limited in movement. The left is already beside a door, the right will hit one of the computer chairs if moved further.
I can move the fronts a little forward though, to be aligned with the rack. Thanks.

Thanks, di naman talaga designed for HT, more of an area where we are together when watching TV and on the PC (so we can see what the kids are up to, hehehe). Nagawan lang ng paraan na madagdag yung HT.

I wonder if there will be bad effects in putting the TV on top of the center speaker?

Stability or the lack of it will be a factor. Next is vibration.
Is wallmounting the tv out of the question?

l
Hesitant to mount it in case we change the layout of the area.

Since temporary setup yan, better kung ilipat mo na lang muna ang center speaker sa 2nd layer kapalit ng playstation para mas stable ang pagkapatong ng tv sa rack. Before you know it baka nasa sahig na tv mo. Pwede naman yata sa sahig ang nakalagay sa 2nd layer.
-
Thanks. Sakto naman yung TV base sa ibabaw ng center, ang worry ko talaga e yung vibrations pero mukhang kaya naman so far.
Question regarding playing of videos from the PC (YouTube, Netflix, etc.), I can't figure out how to do it.
My network connection is as follows:
Connected to the router (Asus RTN12): 2 PCs, receiver, media player
Connected to the receiver: TV, media player
I can play video files from the PC but not streaming media like YouTube or Netflix. Can I do this with this set up or do I need an additional component?
Thanks.

haha ngayon ko lang napansin nakapatong pala mismo sa center mo ang tv mo. sana nilipat mo nalang. kawawa naman ang center mo sir. kala ko my mounting bracket ang rack mo.

Sir may picture ka nung wall ng windows and the side with the door and staircase? Baka pwede kang magpj sa side na yun with the pj screen covering the windows tapos yung sofa mo on the other side. Baka meron pa sa AVDI na energy in ceiling surrounds(eas-6) sir I think 2,500 pesos for the pair, it would be a good option for you. The left and right speakers can be separated a little bit more sa area na yun.

Thanks, the PJ would be a nice upgrade, but still far in the future.

The after pic looks so much better. I'm sure it also sounds much better with all the additional diffusers and absorbers. :)
