Hi PDVD,
I recently got a new headphone amp (they call it energizer) and it uses 6FQ7 / 6CG7 tubes. Stock tubes are really good, smooth highs and some body in the lower end. Would like to ask if you guys know where can source these tubes locally for rolling. I prefer sound leaning towards the warm side.
Thank you!

Try mo kay Egghead at Shangri-la re Stax.

Parang hirap to mga 6CG7 dito, if you cant find any just get it in TUBE STORE Canada, they ship naman right through our doorstep. HTH

6cg7, 6fq7, and 6gu7, 6n1p 6n30 pwede rin....drop ins...
6cg7 is younger brother of the octal 6sn7, while the 5814. 5963. 6211. 12au7 are the smallest brothers...

Pwedi pala 6n1p, I have an extra piece here but I think you would need a pair for your STAX

6922. 6dj8. 7dj8, 6bk7, 6bz7, these cab be tried if you have them...
-
try watson's in raon, or eleshop..

Sir Tony, at_sunset_blvd,Nelson, thank you for the replies, i'll look into all these. The only other tubes i have are 12ax7, 5670 and el84.
Will try to visit raon after undas break. Sabayan ko na ng multimeter for bias haha.

when using the 6N1P, make sure the filament supply is capable of the extra current required as this tube takes more filament currents than the other siblings of the 6dj8..

when you tube roll, please look at the datasheets for the tube,
the important parameters are the plate resistance, transconductance, and amplification factor.....
you will see the differences between each tube types...
so then that will explain for the most part why they sound different...
-
the sound differs as the amp operating points are set in your particular amp, so if a tube sounds very good in your amp, that is no guarantee that it will sound good on another unless it were the same model and make..

So aside from checking voltage and/or current bias (there's a thread in the net about adjustments, i'll follow that,https://www.head-fi.org/threads/tube-change-biasing-a-stax-006t-ii.415385/page-2) i'll have to double check the specs of these tubes? Or just need to take not so i'll know the difference?
-
no need, most small tubes are operated at a small fraction of their plate ratings, so that most of the time you can get away with it...
all i am saying is that if you hear differences, the datasheets will tell you why...if you want to know,,,

Ahhh, so i get a reference how one model sounds different from the other. I'll keep an eye out. Hopefully i find different tubes. (Puyatan to!!!)
