For me, SONY for its SACD capability,  PANASONIC for DVD-Audio and CD playback but for movies and cd playback,  definitely Pioneer.

Yup,  the Pioneer Universal HTIB is good but too expensive. You can already setup a decent separates having same features and better AV quality for its price.

I completely agree, that's why we still opted for separates.

I was already supposed to buy a pioneer HTz700 a few months ago, but after auditioning them, I found the bass lacking (most have 75w subs). "Matining" ang sound, parang LATA. Or maybe the salesperson did not know how to adjust the settings.

I saw the JBL 6 speaker (75w satellite) system and the sound was truly awesome for satellite speakers, maybe due in part to its great 100 w subs. There is also a 100 w version of the satellites. But its a speaker package & not a HTIB cuz you need to buy the amp separately.

With regards to the LX8000sa anf the MX5700. I would choose the LX8000 simply because it has a faroudja DCDi. Though I have no confirmation yet if this DCDi makes a lot of difference as a high end progressive scan, the price of an separate DCDi player would make me favor buying the LX8000sa.

Porma and malakas ang MX5700 but it uses passive subs while the LX uses active subs, which makes the LX better IMO. Sayang, the speakers are just 35w each. I have auditoned the LX and it sounds good, but the JBL system would blow you away.

Anyway, I ended up buying separates & I never regretted the decision. Separates sound so much better cuz the speakers are bigger and better sounding, its also more flexible & easy to upgrade (gastos nga lang). But if you have a small room & you hate making "kalikot" to your system, HTIB is OK.

I am also about to buy the LX8000 soon just for its SACD player w/ DCDi, then I will sell the speakers. I hope I wont regret this experiment... :)

Tama ka pre, separates are better than HTIB

i try to auditioned Philips LX8000SA or MX5700D, tunog lata lang...
i ended up buying this package at Digital Dreams SM North:

DENON AVR-1705
JBL SCS260.6 (Simply Cinema)
Harman/Kardon DVD22 (free)

I happy with this setup, grabe ang Bass Reproduction, ang galing....

Thats great! When I was shopping around for my HT last year 2004, I almost bought the JBL SCS260.6. It was the best sounding satellite speakers I have auditioned. Galing ng bass nyan and hindi bitin.

In the end I opted for tower speakers cuz it sounded better, kahit masikip na sa house ;D.

By the way, the first time I went to www.htib.com, even the site itself admitted that "HTIB's dont compare to the quality of separates, but is a good alternative or secondary HT system (for smaller rooms, etc.)".

Try the JVC THA/THM series, they offer DVD-audio/MP3/WMA playback... medyo kapos nga lang ang bass ng sub (since passive nga lang sha  ;D ) but at least youll get a descent sound, may 1 or 2 optical inputs pa sha dava...?  O0

Pre, I've found a JVC TH-A35 in a store in a mall here in Phil. They sell it for 19K. Ok naman ang pag read nya. In fact yung salesperson pa nga nag lagay ng diff types of pirated DVD's. Ako din nag lagay ng mga dala ko DVD. Ok naman sya. Yun lang ba CONS nya. What do you think about the price here? Mahal ba?

Lahat pwedeng palitan, coz most active subwoofers have high level inputs anyway. So kahit yung speaker wires from your HTIB ang kabit mo, oks pa rin. This is what I did in my transition period from our old Yamaha DVR-S60 to my Yamaha/Wharfe separates setup, when my first step was to get a sub.  ;)

Videowise, these two are the same. Audiowise, mas maganda yung may SACD playback dahil siguradong mas magandang audio DAC ang gamit nun.

Pag computer room lang, then try JBL SCS 200.5 satellite speaker system, it will beat the Pioneer HTIB anytime. Bagay pa with your computer.

Almost P18k yan dito but without receiver pa.

If I am not wrong, I think I saw it on a bodega sale some time ago for 35k with a HK receiver. At this price (here in Manila), the Pioneer HTIB is no match for the performance & value of the JBL, IMO..

Post by: Poloman888 on Aug 10, 2006 at 12:06 AM
Hi. Since Philander recommends NextBase HTIB  :):  I'm selling my Next Base 5.1 set of speakers with amp. Model is HM-065 (latest model). 1 month old. Bought for around P9k. Selling for P7,800(neg).  Very practical for mid-sized rooms. Great aesthetics (silver-gray and black) and sound.  8" Sub w/ tower rears.

If you've read my previous post in HTIB, I needed to consume an SM Appliance Credit Memo worth P12k w/in 30 days. After buying a few small items for the kitchen, couldn't think of anything else needed for the house. Then bought this with the remaining P9k.  11 mos. remaining in warranty card.

Here's the photo with specs:
http://www.techpoint.com.ph/htm/hm_065.htm

many thanks for viewing. this is value for money HTIB  :)

I experienced the best HTiB last night at Listening in Style

A Meridian all-in-one thingie w/ dvd player, audiophile CDp, tuner, hybrid digital amplifier and faroudja video scaler. It was as big as a CD player only & doesnt heat upw/ its 5x100w (all chanels driven) hybrid digital amp. The sound was sooo clean!!!

The internal Faroudja scaler was just jaw dropping in its upscaling a standard DVD to crystal clear HD 1080p image  on a Panasonic 103" plasma. A 40  year old remastered "GOLDFINGER" was demoed and the PQ was so stunning, you could see Sean Connery's facial blemishes (pimples). Meridian representative claimed that 70% of the image was "fixed" by the faroudja scaler.

Slim On-wall speakers w/ ribbon tweeters surprisingly filled the 100 sqm. room with sound w/ just 100w. plus the Meridian sub.

Cost is 8,000 for the all in one thing & the speakers cost another 8,000.

in DOLLAR$$

After all, Meridian is the Ferrari of the HiFi industry.

If your DVD collection reaches $8,000. JR of LIS argued that its better to buy this instead of renewing your entire DVD collection to bluray or HD DVD. It really made a lot of sense. Now if only I can find $8,000. :D

I am new here and I want to congratulate everybody because this is really a great site! Anybody heard of Athena Technologies Micra 6? I asked my brother to buy it for me last year $350 including tax + Onkyo TX SR 503. More or else 38T at last year dollars rate. Looking back, I could have got a decent separates for that price. Before I got it I surfed the net for the best buy HTIB. It was unlucky that I havent heard of this site before. I am a novice so I can only compare it to the few HTIB (Sony and Pioneer). My sister has a 30t Sony home theater and I can say (like they say, night and day) that the micra 6 is superior.

Athena speakers are being sold as separate speakers, if this paired with onkyo it's not HTIB to be considered.

got it na and its fantastic for 21k...0% on 12 months.

ive been searching forever as well and this was the cheapest solution i found with 2 opticals and 1 coax. others just have 1 optical extra. theres a toshiba i think that has a dvd player included for around 14k.

Title: Re: Cheap HTIB with optical inputs
Post by: antikryst on Oct 25, 2007 at 12:29 PM
if this is the entry level yamaha htib i checked...around 15k..problem is it only has 1 optical input so that didnt work for me. there is also an onkyo entry level htib without a dvd player selling for less than 20. again, only 1 optical input.

i really need 2 so i chose the pioneer.

optical 1: xbox
optical 2: future upgrade (hd dvd player)
coax 1: current dvd player

this is why i need 2 opticals. i have no problems using my future hd dvd player as my primary dvd player...although since i am planning to get it from the States (soon) it will be locked to region 1.

How big is your room? For a small bedroom, an HTIB might do but for a bigger room or open area baka mabitin ka.  Also, if ever you go for an HTIB, stop browsing this site or else you might get infected with a very prevalent disease here, SARS.  ;D

I have not listened to them so I cannot comment on them. I was not impressed with the samsung ht-x30 when I demonstrated it. It is best if you can try each one yourself and see which one fits your taste but the Philips HTS3548 looks good on paper.

Don't you have any plans of going separates?

hi, my room is only about 4mx5m =)

20 sqm (4x5m) is already mid-sized. if you already have a dvd player, you would need just a receiver, 5 speakers, and a sub.  If you're not picky, there are a lot of bargain finds in the buy and sell section for pre-owned receivers as low as 8k. You can buy 5 Wharfedale Speakers brand new for 14.5k (9.1 at 5.5k/pair,9c at 4.5k, and 9dfs at 4.5k/pair).  Finallly, there is a DTX 4.15 sub in the B&S section at 6k.

So for a little over your budget, you would get a much better sounding system that would immunize you temporarily from the much dreaded SARS.  ;D ;D ;D

Just my 2 cents ;)

20 sqm is a big room for HTiB, Separates would be better. But truth is, it may cost more than 20k to satisfy.

But bottomline is, as long as you (are sure that you) arent picky with the sound then HTiB will do. Satisfaction is relative & subjective to each person.

If you are satisfied, I repeat what other members have said: DO NOT browse these HT forums anymore to avoid upgrade disease  :D. Dont audition separates in specialty shops or join EB's going to high end setups  ;D :D! Go straight to the DVD discussions na lang and promote buying original DVD's!  :)

DVD collecting will set your wallet back even more! I know people with DVD collections that are more expensive than their formidable HT setups.

thanks everyone for the suggestions. i'm not really picky in terms of HTiB since i don't really know that much in terms of this technology. same reason why i don't opt into assembling the HT by myself. right now, no plan upgrades as well in the near future since i still have other things to buy cause i'm building a new room for me. i just want to have clear picture, better sound (compared to ordinary component system).

currently i have the following in my list:
Philips HTS3548
Sony DAV-DZ555K
Pioneer (no specific model yet, any recommendations?)

hope i can make the right choice given all your expertise. i still have a week to decide.

What brand ang flat panel r u  using? Its better na cguru you get the same brand so that both system can sync w/ each other. Bravia theater sync for SONY , anynet for samsung, & vierra link for panasonic.
Though i agree that a separate audio system can be awesome, it requires much investments and its better if you can produce a dedicated room for that. Kung bedroom mu lng naman i feel pwede na yan mga entry level that meets your requirement and that fits into your budget coz eventually pagsasawaan mu din or technologies evolving fast and will force you for upgrades sooner or later.

If you're going to use it for playing music as well, I suggest you go the seperates route.

If you want to avoid SARS, refrain from reading any threads which concern equipment, speakers, etc. Just buy your set and enjoy your CDs and DVDs.

Warning: SARS is highly contagious!

got a bundled HT-Z210 player with samsung lcd tv in december. three weeks ago, the player of the home theater just stopped while i was viewing a DVD movie. could not get the dvd disc out as the player displays "protect" then shuts down. still awaiting replacement from sns now.

Wonder what happened. It should be easy to remove a disc in laptop or even PC dvd players, but there seems to be no manual override on this one   :(

maybe better not to get this one

Is there an HT set thats "upgradeable."  Meaning I plug in an extra player and use the existing HT so I can use all its speakers to blow my brains out  ;D

I'm eying either a Blue Ray player or PS3, maybe late this year. My existing HT can only accept RCA stereo inputs as auxillary, so at most it can fire up only three speakers.

Most HTIB's can only 'grow' with you up to a certain point.

This is the same reason why I went with separates 3-4 years ago when I first got into this hobby. At first I was also eyeing an HTIB, but decided to simply use my Xbox as the source (DVD player), hooked up via optical cable to a Harman Kardon AVR which I bought second-hand from a friend. I started with a pair of Wharfedale 9.4's, to which I soon added a pair of Wharfedale 9.SR's then a 9.CS. The total cost of everything came around only to around 32k, around the same price as an HTIB at the time.

Except, I got much, much better sound quality (esp. for music), and now I can replace any of my components with better ones. I've since upgraded my TV (to LCD) and 'source' (to PS3) and so now I'm eyeing a new receiver that has HDMI in/out (eyeing the HK 255, in particular).

My setup, though essentially unchanged, still sounds as great as it did when I first completed it 3-4 years ago. You can even see some people in the market place selling speakers/amps that are decades old. Player formats come and go, and receivers get new features every year, but good speakers don't really degrade or depreciate with proper care.

If I had gone with an HTIB back then, I would've had to dispose of everything just to upgrade, and I'd probably be getting back very little of my initial investment. By contrast, should I decide to upgrade my receiver, I can still sell my existing receiver for at least 50% of what I paid for it. My speakers (I just checked) are still selling brand new at around the same price I got them, so if I sold them (even second-hand), they should also still be worth at least 75% of their brand new price.

Quote

Like I said, I also just got a PS3. Because I got a proper receiver, everything works well enough with the Xbox, the Wii, and so on. When I my Oppo 980 arrives, I can also plug that in to the receiver (but the HDMI will have to go straight to the TV).

@sevenblues: Bro, if you're equally into music as well as home theatre, if I were you I'd go for a good, second hand receiver and start with a good, entry-level pair of floorstanding speakers just like I did. That'll easily fit within your budget with room to spare. Or, like the others said, a complete Wharfedale 5-speaker set can still fit within your budget including the receiver.

You'll be glad in the long run.

I agree sony will sound better compared with samsung for the simple reason that sony employed a 3" drivers & woofer in better enclosures that can articulate better the mid & low freq compared with samsung's 2 inch drivers in ho-hum enclosure and woofer in a so-so bass box.

Feature wise, samsung Z210 is better.

To enjoy samsung, use other speakers than what is included in it - then you will discover they dont sound bad after all. Replace the subwoof with powered one (with speaker level input) and you end up with simplified setup that sound decent for a home theater.

Then you may find yourself keeping your system long time.

I dont think we already have here locally. Usually you can have it in the receiver. I found the Samsung HT-TQ85, online and it has HDMI in.

Title: Suggestions on HTIB
Post by: bogart.2006 on Sep 01, 2009 at 09:36 AM
Hi All.

Pretty new at setting up Home Theater Systems so your inputs are appreciated.

I'm in the market for an HTIB for my LCD TV.  Here are my considerations:

  1.  Price - Bang for the buck :-)
  2.  Space - Should not take up too much space
  3.  Sound Quality - I would prefer those 5.1 HTIB's except that I'm not too inclined on doing the wirings.

The HTIB will be used primarily to play DVD's and a WDTV (Ipod connectivity would be a bonus).  I wouldn't mind if the system doesn't play loud so long as the SQ is ok and it'll be compatible with my gadgets.

SnS suggested I go with Speaker Bars, except that they are a little expensive.

I saw this at Abenson's yesterday (http://www.abenson.com.ph/shop/products.asp?product=1077&categ=119), and the audition seemed ok.  Still a little pricey though.

Any suggestions? ???

Depende kung anong inputs available ang receiver mo.

so what input po ang kailangan in order to connect the blu ray player and enjoy surround sound? gusto ko po kasi ung reviews ng jamo model na to and since mejo mahal i wanna make sure din na there's an option for upgrade in the future (blu ray discs). thanks.

Honestly, i'm not familiar with the interconnects. Pero all i know is dapat malaman mo din kung ano ang available outputs ng bluray player mo. The most common is HDMI (High Def. Multimedia Interface) for audio/video. Masmaganda into kasi digital signalas na ang ginagamit. Meron din digital coax and toslink for audio.

Iba iba kasing players and receivers, iba iba din ang gamit. Of course the higher the model of your gear, mas-complete though may mga HTib din na may HDMI, digital input and output.

Yan din ang problem ko sa HTib ko. Walang HDMI input. Pero, you can connect the HDMI directly to your monitor and the audio signal via digital interconnects of your bluray plasyer to your receiver. Assuming na may digital output din ang player mo.

You can also use the RCAs pero most of the time, masmaganda ang digital signals for transferring data. Let your gears decode it. Sa RCAs kasi, may tendency na magka-loss kasi analog signal.

The Z220 is pretty decent for the price, when used for movies or Xbox 360. Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 surround effects work pretty well. If you're not used to high-end audio gear, or simply can't afford them at this time, this is a good starter system.

But also check the web for known issues about Xtreamer and optical audio connection, mentioned here: http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php?topic=109147.30 (http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php?topic=109147.30)

I've owned the Z220 for 2 months and just recently upgraded it's speakers to A-Audio ;D

what is A-Audio? pwede pala gawin yun na palitan speakers? mga magkano naman yan? pwede din ba gawin yan sa logitech z5500? naliliitan kasi ko sa mga speakers ng z5500.
Title: Re: Recommend a HTIB
Post by: Levijones on Jun 22, 2010 at 05:40 PM
Pwede palitan speakers ng Z220, pero matrabaho. Naka permanent connection kasi yung speaker wire sa speakers, so kailangan mo putulin, tapos ikabit sa bagong speakers. Eto yung ginawa ko for reference: http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,70456.990.html (http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,70456.990.html)

A-Audio speakers ay DIY speakers in Anthony (diy_master). It's cheaper than branded, pero comparable ang sound quality.

HTH.  ;D

Good Morning Sir/s, hope you find the time to entertain this noob here Smiley.

I would just like to know your inputs/advice as I am considering to purchase/use an Altec Lansing VS4121 or Altec Octane7 for a basic 2.1 speaker set-up to go with my pioneer dvd player-LG Plasma set-up.

I understand that originally these are PC/Laptop/MP speakers by nature but I'm currently on a budget and considering I only plan to put them in a  small-medium sized room, I figure I won't need anything too powerful naman to fill it up with sound while watching movies.

I also know of Altec's MX and Expressionist lines which could have been more suitable for my intended use but sadly stocks here are very hard to come by plus they cost twice as much than the VS and Octane7 series. Has anyone tried using their VS or Octane7s with their DVD Players? Will there be any negative effects on the dvd-tv set-up in the long run?  Huh

Currently, I tried plugging my Creative 2.1 desktop speakers/Sub to my dvd player (via 3.5-RCA conversion cables) while my dvd's hdmi is plugged to the tv. Tried running tokyo drift's race scenes and no problems so far.

Would the experts advice against this kind of set-up? Huh What are the cons of this set-up po?
Hoping to get your inputs and suggestions mga Sir/s before I go out and purchase the VS or Octane7s. Grin

Thanks in advance. Grin

napakingan ko ang bigger brother ng Pioneer HTZ180DVD the Pioneer HTZ 202. okay naman yung sound quality ng Pioneer HTZ 202, more on bass sya and weak for dialogue so it will do well for movies like Transformers, anything with explosion and action. (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff26/marcyao/harman_kardon_sb_16_1.jpg)

we have the new harman kardon sb16 in the shop. it's quite amazing as it uses a 10 inch 200 watt wireless subwoofer. you guys have got to try it out. :)

interested parties can reach me at 0917-3273083 or 216-1948. :)

harman kardon® SB 16 At A Glance:

Stylish, sleek 2.1-channel soundbar speaker
Wireless subwoofer
3-D virtual surround processing
Optical and coaxial digital input connections
Works with your TV remote
Magnetically shielded speakers in the soundbar and subwoofer
Dual-position EQ switch
Soundbar trim switch
Music sense switching
Subwoofer volume, crossover and phase controls
Wireless code switches
Wall-mounting hardware for soundbar
Energy-saving features
Give your TV a stylish complement.

Designed to fit elegantly alongside your flat-panel TV – or wherever you’d like using the included mounting hardware – the SB 16 soundbar speaker is a sleek 2.1-channel system housing left and right speakers with built-in amplifiers. Thanks to digital signal processing (DSP) with virtual 3-D surround circuitry, the soundbar is a classic overachiever that skillfully works in tandem with a wireless subwoofer to transform the flat sound of your TV into a complete surround-sound experience. And the best part? You won’t need any extra speakers. Simply plug the SB 16 into your TV, DVD or gaming console, and let the exceptional audio begin.

A wireless subwoofer you can put anywhere.

With a grand total of zero wires and connections going into the soundbar, the SB 16’s wireless subwoofer offers you unprecedented flexibility in terms of placement. With a 10-inch (250mm) magnetically shielded woofer and built-in 100-watt amplifier, the wireless subwoofer delivers an impactful one-two bass punch when combined with the soundbar speaker. And thanks to a down-firing bass-reflex enclosure, you can also expect more realistic bass performance and higher bass output, since the subwoofer loads against the floor instead of against surrounding walls.

Impressive 3-D virtual surround processing.

Whether you’re watching a sitcom or a blockbuster movie, you always want to feel like part of the action developing on screen. That’s why the SB 16 produces a complete 3-D virtual surround-sound experience for anyone sitting in front of the soundbar. Bring home a rich, full-bodied theatrical experience without having to add a bunch of extra speakers – or merely give another level of depth to traditional stereo playback. It’s your choice. Just prepare to be impressed.

Receive lots of input (digital and analog) from multiple sources.

Since it comes with optical digital, coaxial digital and analog input connections, the SB 16 gives you the flexibility to run several different kinds of systems. Play your TV, DVD or Blu-ray Disc™ player, and satellite or cable tuner with your soundbar – without having to unplug wires every time you change systems. Optical digital and coaxial digital inputs also let you avoid unnecessary electrical connections, so you can experience better sound and image with less signal corrosion over time.

Easy pairing with your TV remote.

Simplify your life: Direct your entire home theater system with one easy-to-use remote control. The SB 16 soundbar is compatible with, and easily programmed to respond to, your TV remote control’s power, volume and input commands. This benefit eliminates yet another remote from that mounting pile on your coffee table. To get the best audio performance out of your SB 16 system, it’s recommended that you switch off the sound coming from the TV’s loudspeakers. (You can do it by using the audio-setup menu on most current flat-panel TVs.)

Please recommend a decent but cheap (very) 5.1 HTiB with DTS/Dolby capability and Optical in?  Yung compact lang ang speakers since wala ng space sa TV stand ko.  Maski pre-owned but in good condition.   Di naman ako masyadong maselan and sa small room lang gagamitin.  I used to do away with a small Altec Lansing 2.1 with my Devant LCD connected through the headphone jack.  But when I upgraded my TV to a 32" LG LCD parang bitin ang tunog.

I have an LG ht805 pm hooked on my LG 32LE5500. I would say the SQ is good. I think cash price runs about 9k or 10k now a days.

Hi! Newbie here and looking for suggestions for a 5.1 HTiB for my bedroom. Medium size bedroom lang of 30 square meters (5 meters x 6 meters). Since it's a bedroom, I would prefer smaller/compact speakers. Will mainly be used for watching HD movies and sports. Receiver needs multiple HDMI inputs for BD player and Digibox.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Mga Sirs.

Please give me an input po.

It really depends if your samsung is capable of decoding DTS, DD etc via optical input. Plus the fact that you can't take advantage of the HD audio from your BD.

Just sharing my feedback on the Pioneer HTZ-222BD Bluray HTIB (P 11,990)

+
2 HDMI inputs (pass through)
2 Optical inputs
2 USB ports
LAN - DLNA, Youtube
DTS HD MA
Dolby True-HD
3D Bluray
MKV playback
SACD

-
Speakers sound BAD
Bluetooth card is not included
Volume is a bit low compared to other HTIB
MKV playback not as clear as a media player
Just youtube for net content

It has a lot of features for the price,  just the 2 HDMI inputs make it a great option to simplify some setups.  Xtreamer Prodigy, Apple TV and the Bluray all through one HDMI to my Projector. Unfortunately I was not satisfied with the sound, it sounds hollow and has a slight echo.   I ended up replacing the speakers with the ones from my Samsung HT-X30 and it sounds much better.   If the features meet your needs be sure to audition it first to see if you are satisfied with the sound.

Hi guys, pwede po ba ako maka hingi ng opnion nyo regarding sa pag-pili ng sound setup ko sa bahay?

Pang living room lang naman sya na katamtaman lang ang laki, actually pwede nga sabihin na maliit lang sya. :D

Not sure how to start, but anyway may nakapag suggest sakin ng Onkyo HTIB na ang price range daw ay 25-30k.

3. Onkyo S6200

Ano po sa tingin nyo? Also feel free to suggest anything. :)

don't get the S3400. it doesn't have a subwoofer pre-out and its subwoofer is passive.

I would add to your list the Denon 1312XP.

but if I were you, I would build my system slowly starting with a receiver and front speakers.

Ok lang ihalo mo. Just don't play it too loud baka masira ang acoustimass mo. Kung contented ka na, then your good to go!

For P20-25k, makakabili ka na ng pre-owned receiver, center, left and right speakers na maayos. Ang kung maganda ang timing mo, baka makakuha ka pa ng surrounds sa budget mo.

For sub, there are also preowned around P6k-P12k. There is also pilyo sub for P12k ata.

Question, are you really keen on using your acoustimass for a little serious HT use?

Pero kung mas malaki lng sana ang place namin, i-dispose ko na ung acoustimass and will go for the bigger ones... :D

Great. So you're good na with acoustimass. Swak sa iyo. Teka... hindi usually the acoustimass comes with a Bose proprietary receiver?

good day po, planning to buy HTIB, tanung ko lang kung ok sya pang videoke for home use lang po, planning to buy a platinum videoke din, advisable ba na ipar sya sa HTIB? I am planning to buy an LG 1000w http://www.lg.com/ae/audio/lg-DH6630T these are my concerns:

1. sound and voice quality of HTIB kung gamitin sya for videoke
2. Durability ng HTIB speakers (tatagal ba sya sa videoke)
3. kung may marecommend po kayo na HTIB na mas maganda po, budget is up to 15k

medyo newbie po kaya no know how to set up a proper home theater kaya HTIB is my first choice.

Suggestion ko lang po, HTiBs were not designed for karaoke use.  Ibang application po yun.  Of course pwedeng ipilit pero mas short ang economic life ng unit pag ginamit sa karaoke.  If you are into karaoke, get bmb brand system or visit elite showgears (formerly hi-end audio shop- t.morato cor. roces) they sell karaoke systems.  Another way is to just buy sakura amp with mic input and dai-ichi speakers, theyr a lot more durable for karaoke application than a HTiB. Remember, HTiBs are for small room & for not so loud music or movies application only.  Hope it helps

Thanks for the reply, I am planning to buy also a Platinum t40 for the karaoke hoping the lg htib was enough as an amplifier and the included speakers can deliver, mukang marketing lang ng lg at samsung yung nilalagay nila na karaoke mode, for your suggestion na sakura amp and dai-ichi speakers can I buy a Bluray player, then add a Sakura amplifier, a daichi 5.1 system, and a Platinum T40, and achieve home theater quality also for watching movies naman, or talagang I cannot achieve having a home theater and videoke in just one system setup?

Post by: HiFi FreQs on Feb 20, 2014 at 11:47 PM
The platinum t40 is nice but it doesnt really solve your problem of having both worlds in one solution.  So I would suggest this:

If you have a limited space get a HTiB with small 5.1 satellite speakers with decent sound matched with a basic 5.1 ch standard AV receiver (need not be branded if budget doesnt allow).  But this AV receiver must have speaker B (speaker A for your front satellite L/R mains).  Now for your karaoke application, buy a robust speaker system (dai-ichi perhaps) connected to the speaker B of your AV receiver.  To finish this off, buy a DVD player (that can read midi files from cd) with mic inputs and echo function.  Now you have a compact HT & karaoke system in one place.

Here's another suggestion.  If your budget allows, buy a mic with reverb effects NOT ECHO.  Reverb will make you sound like a pro-singer just like in recording studios...  Enjoy sir!!!!

I just saw a pioneer MCS-333, rated 1000watts, ok sya sa price range ko kaso parang anliliit ng sat speakers nya, ok lang ba ito pang home theater and videoke setup? Or kung pwede palitan ang sat speakers nya with larger ones or balewala din kasi magiging underpowered?

Saw at their website that the speakers are 170w each pati sub,ok po ba lakas nito, kasi limited din reviews, medyo kailangan ko pa mag google para mag research sa home theater (noob talaga, first time to buy one), kaya I am starting small in htib.
Title: Re: Recommend a HTIB
Post by: HiFi FreQs on Feb 23, 2014 at 01:08 PM
Well, the mcs333 i think can do the job as a compact HT but rated at 145w power consumtion, i suspect its only around 25w rms x 6ch (note that the subwoofer is passsive & will get power from the receiver).  Looking at the specs, the mcs333 is well equipped except for the power output.  1000w pmpo is misleading, but at around 25w/ch rms is good enough for a small room.  For the karaoke function during parties, turning the volume excessively will surely break the tiny speakers off and eventually burn the power amps. As i have mentioned in my previous posts "pwede naman ipilit" just be careful with the volume.  You can do your karaoke thing on this unit at normal listening levels lang.  Another option is to buy karaoke (designed) speakers (use only 4ohms as required by the amp) and every time you feel like singing, just replace the small ones with these.  But it doesnt mean that the volume of the sound will be any louder since the amp as i said is only at around 25w rms. But rather, the speaker will be able to accommodate a little more freq range that the sats are not able to, to prevent it from busting the speakers at louder volumes.

But the most important part of this exercise is your enjoyment.  If you think you will enjoy using the mcs333, then go for it.  But of course there are gazillions of options im sure the other readers also have solutions to your requirement.  Ciao!

I purchased the Pioneer MCS-333 only three weeks ago, and I am very happy with it.  However, please note that I bought it for very different reasons.  I need an HTIB since I live in a condo, and the MCS-333 serves me really well.  With the volume max of 50, I usually turn it up only up to 30 and it is loud enough already when watching HD movies in the confines of my three-bedroom condo unit.  When playing videogames, volume is usually around 20 only.  I bought it mainly for the 4 HDMI inputs (for my WDTV Live, PS3, and PS4).

I didn't even realize that the MCS-333 had karaoke functions until you pointed it out.  I don't even know how it is supposed to work.  Last week, I had a karaoke party but using SingStar in PS3 and everyone had a blast.  I think volume was only around 30 out of 50 and it was really very loud already.  Walls in this condo are solid concrete so I have no issues turning up the volume.  It's just that I haven't had the occasion or reason to turn it up to full volume since 30 is too loud already.

So, for the price of Php 11,500.00, you get an entry-level but capable HTIB.  I recommend it for indoors use only (but then again, HTIBs are really designed for indoors use).

newbie here. ano mas maganda tunog. HI-Fi System or HTiB? kasi currently gamit ko lang yung Sony LBTLV100AV (old sony stereo model) na component stereo left and right speaker na may center. so 2.1. hindi 5.1. naka set lang sa ProLogic setting nung stereo. pero maganda tunog malakas. pero plano ko sana palitan ng LG BH6330H kasi LG TV ko para lang same brand and more functionality.
Kung icocompare ang tunog ng HTiB at mga HI-FI system like for example yung bago Sony LBT-SH2000
ano may maganda at malakas ang tunog. salamat.

If your budget and space allow, go for the full blown 5.1++ Home Theater System.  You get more realistic localization of surround while the center channel reproduces better sound than most of the 5.1 HTiBs.  Otherwise, a basic 5.1 HTiB will do as long as you're happy with the purchase! Cheers!

good day mga bossings, nakabili na ako ng mcs-333 kaso me problema ako, may hissing sound sya from all speakers, una akala ko sa rca cable ng videoke or sa mic kasi everytime na tinatangal ko yun dalawa nawawala, so pinlano ko bumili ng bago cable, kaso naglaro ako ng xbox saka nanood ng movie thru usb and the hissing starts from a low pitch to an annoying noise na, nawawala sya kaso kailangan ko i-on off yung unit, anu kaya pinagagagalingan ng hiss sopunds(wala sya ahas sa loob...lol) unplug ko na lahat speakers hindi ko ma-isolate.

there are plenty of good reviews on Amazon. but you might want to replace the stock speaker wires. you also might want to consider the new HT-S7700 and HT-S9700 Atmos-ready HTIB's. ;)

another HTIB I'd recommend is the SVS Prime Satellite 5.1 system:
http://www.svsound.com/speakers/prime-series/prime-satellite-5-1 (http://www.svsound.com/speakers/prime-series/prime-satellite-5-1)

you still need to get your own receiver though. but I think it's worth it. :)

With your budget, you can already have a decent 5.1 HT system like what DTNS mentioned - SVS Prime 5.1, and forget about HTIB. You may want to pm mike c (local distributor of SVS) or visit his website mkcinternational.com

why settle for a simple HTIB, for small room lang ba? for your budget, my vote goes to a full blown home theater setup.

if you want a full blown home theater setup, maybe it will help if you will provide us more facts on your present situation and preference:
   1. estimate size of your room;
   2. are you more on movies or music;
   3. floorstander or bookshelf speakers;
   4. do you want a subwoofer or not;
   5. 5.1 or 7.1;

maraming experts dito, dont worry much on technical aspects. pdvd members are here to help you.
your question kasi is too general and broad.
mag sound bar ka na lang kung gusto mo walang kahirap hirap.

YOu still need a receiver and a BD player for the Onkyo HTP-2.

Also the LG DH-6630 and the Philips HTD3540 are DVD capable only, so better pa rin ang MCS-333.
