Any word on what special features this release will have?

What's lenticular packaging, sir sgc_wdi?  :)

it's like a 3D packaging, wherein you get 2 different pictures on different angle viewings of the cover. Basically, it's like the poster of Terminator 3 in the theaters, where you see the TX's face on one side, and when you look at it on the other side, you see Arnold's face. My guess is, we'll see a New York city that's not destroyed, and a New York city that's destroyed (as seen on the cover).

Is it like with the Ghost Ship dvd?

I see.. and that only makes it more of a must-have  >:D

Would you know if the initial release will already be a 2-disc edition? And what features are included? Thanks  ;)

Well at least it has this lenticular packaging (i'm quite curious about this type of packaging), and what if the later release don't have this type of packaging? But then, if it will have DTS... oh I don't want to hate them when that happens!!!

Yup, I'll bet they do that para we'll be torn about which edition we'd want to keep and end up buying both versions!! Saw the Ghost Ship dvd at Astro, baka nga it'll be something similar to that. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see  ;)

There's already a review (http://www.dvdtown.com/review/dayaftertomorrowthewidescreen/12462/2347/?PHPSESSID=87f115bfa3f0cff63236ab5b5e596d90) at dvdtown. Although it does have DTS, the disc is sorely lacking in special features, save for the commentaries, a couple of deleted scenes, and some short featurettes. The good stuff on the making of the film is only accessible via a weblink..   :(

I guess they're gonna make us buy two editions of this..  ::)

quoted from dvdtown...

"The DVD keep case is enclosed in a cardboard slipcase with a 3-D holographic picture on the cover. It's similar to the holographic picture that was included with the "Independence Day" DVD, and looking at it is at least as entertaining as watching the movie itself."

So, it has a slipcase... I don't have a copy of the Independence Day. Anybody who can describe what the holographic picture looks like?

I was able to watch this last night. Maybe my ears or my sound system deceived me but the DTS track is a bit weaker than I expected especially with the scenes where I expected it to deliver. But, oh well, it still sports a very nice visual effect and I still like the scene where NYC was swamped by the ocean and also those three guys in Scotland who had still managed to inject some humor by drinking Scotch while awaiting their end. I would probably turn on the commentary the next time I watch this.

I'd seen this once in theater last summer, and it's only now that I recognize that the female actress who played the role who voluntarily helped Dennis Quaid is named Tamlyn Tomita... name familiar? She's the love interest of Ralph Macchio in Karate Kid 2. Her looks changed a lot...

or some clear plastic which creates a different picture or simulated view (ala 3d)

Hi RadicalDude, are you based in the States? I was just wondering if this title is already out in stores ahead of the initial street date?  :)

Oh, and Tamlyn Tomita also plays that b**chy girl in Joy Luck Club and is part of the presidential staff on 24 Season II  ;D

I was hoping that the bonus disc from Bestbuy would contain more supplemental material, but what it was was just a bunch of Fox trailers plus what looked like a promotional featurette on the CGI SFX used on the movie.. lasting less than 15 minutes, it's not really that insightful..  :( Lenticular packaging (admittedly the first time I've heard of this term) aside, it might seem that at P900, the 2-disc R3 version might be a better buy..  ;)

So from the listed features, this two-disc R1 is essentially the same as the two-disc R3 released on October 21st of last year.

The only difference is that the "Inside Look: Alien vs. Predator - Making the Creatures" on the R3 has been replaced by multiple trailers. Plus the R3 has those two virtually useless "features" - Global Watch and City Freeze.

Wow, a seven-month window of the R3 over the R1. This is amazing.

Way to go, VIVA!

It's hard to believe when these forums started, we were regularly cursing VIVA for their slow/feature-deficient releases.

Mr. Hankey.. i guess the R1 2 discs release and the R3 release are pretty much the same.  This title however was released in 2 disc collector's edition in all regions except Region 1. too bad for our north american counterparts.

this has a better artwork IMO. but, i am not sure if the lenticular slip case would be applied in this release. also, this is part of Fox Collector's Series (http://www.pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=24835.0), so i guess this would be in digipak.

i wonder what titles occupy the No. 17 & 18 slots..   ???

Most of the time, I noticed the DTS tracks in p-discs are simply DD tracks recorded at a louder volume and upsampled to a higher bitrate.  But upsampling won't put in any more details than is originally in the DD track.  Psychoaccoustically, anything louder is perceived to be better.

There are many pirated titles that have DTS tracks.  And I am often surprised to learn that the original discs don't have one.    Testament to the marketing creativity of those pirates.   ;D

All access is with slip case and in keep case.  But I think wala na mga slip ngayon.  The slip case is not lenticular but is glossy metallic.  The single disc edition is a crap.  Nothing new.  It's just like the previous ID4 release in single dics with "Limited edition" mark to attract buyers.  But
I think they didn't attract any because of the multiple releases.  Alot of DVD buyers now are in to forums so they get info 1st before buying.  Like us. ;D

IMO I'll get the HD version when it comes out.  But 1st save for the HD-DVD.
