the friends dvd season 4 has finally come out and i must say cool ng packaging nila unlike sa sac.and its  kinda cheap pa. Good news ito and available sa astro na.

With that note, I can confirm it's really identical to the R1.

You should try this quiz, CrUzSACK. It's much more fun than the one on the S3 boxed set. It somewhat recreates the mood of the Apartment Swapping Quiz they had on the show. But you should have teams at home when you do it for the most fun. :)

But no reward for doing well... I guess that was just for Season Two.

My girlfriend got Season 4... and I'm happy to confirm that these sets are identical in packaging and features to the current R1 sets available...except they're R3 and much, much more affordable...

Kudos to Warner Phils. on another faithful local release of great dvd titles...now if only they could keep it coming...

Season 5 R3 will be out later this month or early next month. Season 6 R3 will be out in January.

just spotted this at astroplus podium. 1700php. it looks like an exact copy of the R1 release.

OT: with season 4 & 5 being an exact R1 copy (with extended scenes), puede kayang mag re release ng season 1 to 3 na exact R1 copy din?

I purchased this and will confirm that it's identical to the R1, even down to the VERY IRRITATING Easter Egg.

Haven't seen any of the Director's Cut version of Season Three, though. Just the old set in a box. Maybe it sold out very quickly.

nope! R3 seasons 4 and 5 are identical to R1 but not seasons 1 and 6.
so far, seasons 1 to 7 are released in R1 and all have the same packaging
except the colors are unique per season. pagtabihin mo ang seasons 1, 4, 5
and 6 na R3 sa astro and you will see the difference. moreso, all seasons in
R1 are 4-discs but R3 S1 has only 3 discs. and R3 cover says it has the "I'll Be
There For You" video which is not found in all seasons of R1 except in the
series finale dvd.  ;)

I hate to correct you, but Widescreen, you are mistaken.

Season One has been re-released by Warner on local R3 already, and based on the sealed set/listed features on the front, the NEW version (that I just saw yesterday at Astro-Mega Mall) is identical to the R1, even down to the packaging: unlike the bulky packaging of R3 Seasons 6 & 7, the just released Season 1 is 4-discs in the fold-out style.

Other than the packaging in Amaray-style cases, R3 Seasons 6 and 7 are identical in content/features to their R1 counterparts, as well.

Yup, Hankey's right. The S1 and S2 re-release versions mirror their R1 counterparts. That's probably why Warner included the original season 2 discs (parts 1, 2 and 3) as part of their coming P299 sale.

ngekk!! napahiya yata ako. sorry po!!!  :-[  avid fan din kasi ako ng FRIENDS and i have all of its R1 dvds and the original R3 season 1 (the 3-disk UK version in white packaging). when i read the post of Chet last week, i thought its my obligation (as a fan and as a member of pinoydvd) to answer another fan kaya nagpunta agad ako nun sa astro glorietta to check. when i check the post again yesterday, wala pa palang sumasagot kaya i opted.

anw, to redeem myself, nagpunta po ako kanina sa astro glorietta to check again. unfortunately, wala na pong season 5 but they already have the season 7 set. the result: what i said in my post before is true. the season 1 R3 (in astro glorietta) has the same blue box and cover as R1 but it contains 3 discs in 3 separate amaray keep cases that makes it thicker than R1 releases and the back cover says it has the "I'll Be There For You" video. i just assumed that this is the R3 re-release since i have in my collection the R1 and original R3 versions. i even took a picture of the dvd set using my camera fon. if you want, you can PM me your email address and i'll send the picture to you. or better yet, check it yourself.

This is my observation as well.  I was really hoping Widescreen and I were wrong. Oh well.  :(

That's strange.

I'll try to check this again for you guys. I just came from Astro-Greenhills, but they don't have any stocks of Season One there, old or new.

I just checked this by phone. You are RIGHT, WideScreen! Although the exterior FRONT packaging is identical to the R1 (Down to the "Now With Footage You've Never Seen" printing), the listed features at the back are the same as the OLD R3 - just The Rembrandts video. Who knows if the actual episodes really do contain "footage you've never seen", either? So I guess it's buyer beware for this "new" set.

Sorry about that! It was beside the other seasons and looked thinner than the new ones, so based on my previous purchases (I bought R1 Seasons 1-4 and R3 Seasons 5-7), I made a what I thought was a logical conclusion.

Saw the re-release for Season 2 as well.  It's in one of those ubiquitous keepcases-in-a-box combo.  Three disc set that SEEMS to list all the extras of the R1 (can't confirm because I didn't buy it and I don't have the R1), unlike the re-release for Season 1, which only lists the Rembrandts video as an extra.

Warner, I honestly don't know what to make of these, so I haven't bought any of them.

I just bought the seaon 2 boxed set pero wala yata yung mga special features. It clearly indicated in the box that it will have special features on corresponding  discs pero nung pinanood ko wala namang special features doon. All it has is the music video and that's it. I bought it before I even found this thread. I bought it at spectra but I don't think I can return it anymore. Sasabihin na naman nila na it's not their fault and they are just selling those dvds.This is the 3rd time that I have been burned by r3 dvds.

Took a while to get feedback but Widescreen's right. The re-release sets do not mirror the R1 versions even if they use similar packaging. Bit of confusion in Warner as to why there's an error in the Season 2 label that misrepresents the features.

My question is: the listed special features are wrong/incomplete, but do the discs actually at least contain the extended versions of the episodes, or are they still the same broadcast versions present in the old boxed sets?

theres actually no indication. but i know those episodes like the back of my hand since i recorded it back then sa betamax pero there is no indication of any additional scenes. On season 2, the box indicated a complete version of the smelly cat video pero wala naman. Very frustrating!!!

The easiest way to check for sure, though, since you bought Season Two:

In "The One Where Ross Finds Out," is there a scene where Ross & Julie are actually at the animal shelter trying to pick out a cat?

Kung wala yun, Warner should really repackage these again, since the "Now With Footage You've Never Seen" label on the box is a very misleading lie.  >:(

Hey thanks for the reply. pero wala yung scene na iyon. so my question is, do you think spectra will still accept the return because i bought the set like a week and a half ago? im assuming they wont give me my money back and they will just try to replace it with other dvd of my choice w/c isnt really my choice in the first place becasue i really wanted the friends boxd set. kinda like what hapnd to me when i purchsed the back to the future r3 set ( you know, the one with the misframing issue? ). I had to talk and argue with the manager and convince them to give my money back but in the end wala rin . do you think that if I talk to warner management they will persuade spectra to return my money?

I'll have to turn you over to boss firewired for that one, sorry. I really don't know.

In similar situations, Astro has been very accomodating of me - I've exchanged maybe 2-3 DVDs already for different titles altogether due to misleading notes on the packaging. Maybe with Warner's help, Spectra will also be as accomodating with you.

I haven't bought the R3 version but in R1, after you answered all of the trivia questions, you will get to see the complete version of the smelly cat video.

I'm kind of confused here. The original R3 releases weren't identical to the R1s because they didn't have the extended scenes? And the re-release still doesn't have them even if it says so in the packaging? I have Seasons 1-9 kasi on vcd and I want to replace all of them with their dvd counterparts. Should I just go R1 all the way?

You can buy R3 versions of Seasons 4-6 (so far) and these are identical to their R1 counterparts as far as special features are concerned.

That's apparently NOT the case for the R3 rereleases of Seasons 1 and 2. From the reports on this thread, they are just the same as the initial releases, with the broadcast versions of the episodes and just the Rembrandts music video as a sole special feature.

I haven't seen a Season 3 rerelease yet.

Saw the Season 7 boxed set kahapon sa Astro.  Are you sure its identical sa R1 also?  It's three keepcases in a cardboard box tapos parang ang konti ng extras.

What about Season 8? Any news on when Warner plans to release that here? Per Amazon, R1 comes out November 4.  :)

Not that it affects the content of the discs, but I just tried to add the R3 Friends Season 7 to my collection list at DVD Profiler, and when I entered the UPC (under the bar code), to my surprise, it was the same UPC as that of the R3 (and R1) Season 5 release.

Warner really shouldn't be making up/duplicating UPC's on their releases. It makes the titles seem like pirated material.

I'm just curious.. do the Friends R3s play on strictly R1 players? When I viewed my Friends R1 Season 1 on a locally-bought region free player, it displayed warnings for R3, but displayed no FBI warnings in a strictly R1 player.. Don't have a dvd-rom so I can't verify if indeed it's both R1 and R3 encoded. Which would be weird because the R3s don't mirror the R1s..   ;)

Warner should make sure their decriptions are accurate... nakakaloko sila eh... Should have bought R1 then...  >:(

I myself went for the R1 for Seasons 1-3.. Apart from the discrepancies between the packaging and the actual content, I also have issues with Warner releasing them in bundled Amarays instead of the nicer (IMO) digipack hubs of the R1s.  ;)

Season 1: Broadcast Episodes only, different (simple) special features, Amaray-type packaging

Season 4: Extended Episodes, special features the same as R1, Digipack

Season 5: Extended Episodes, special features the same as R1, Digipack

Season 6: Extended Episodes, special features the same as R1, Amaray-type packaging

Season 7: Broadcast Episodes Only, special features similar to R1 but missing commentaries and trivia game  , Amaray-type packaging

To complete the list in the previous post, I'm confirming that the episodes/special features of the R3 release of Season 10 are identical to those of the R1, based on listed features at Amazon. I didn't check for DVD-Rom features, though.

Apparently, the powers-that-be have decided to release Friends: The One With All Ten Seasons Collector's Box here in Asia. The packaging will be different from the Region 1 version but the set will still come in a hefty box that should look impressive on most shelves. No word on pricing or availability yet but this will probably be released in the first quarter of 2006.

Buti na lang di pa ako bumili ng kahit anong season.  Was about to buy Seasons 1-3 kagabi.  Good thing I changed my mind.  I do hope na same pricing as Season 1-3 or lower.

You know, I haven't seen this season in Metro Manila stores in over a year, but I see it is in stock at pinoydvd.biz.

It might be the right title to try them out, if you feel so inclined...  ;)

Yeah.  Warner seems to be big fans of Friends.  With so many forms of Friends out there...  if it was in the Php 5000 range, I might buy it if it is like the 2006 R1 version...   Maybe when Summer comes around, and it's sale time...  R1 is currently (Amazon) $185 (list price $299.98), so just marginally cheaper...

i think i'll stick with my r1 dream boxset (2nd set). i'm not sure if there's a PQ difference between the two, but i've always like my r1 purchases before compared to r3 FRIENDS

anyway, i'm probably sure there are HD plans for the series, which is slowly sucking my dvd-buying mojo  ;D  well at least for regular releases...

As per Warner's leaflet, the local release looks exactly the same as the Korean release.  I did chance upon a Hong Kong release a few months back and it is also identical with the Korean release.   ;D

The Good: Friends: The One With All 10 Seasons R3 is available NOW in the Philippines, Php 7950.

The Bad: It was supposed to come out in March, so it's almost a 3 month delay

& The Ugly: Man, that is the worst "boxed set" I've ever seen. They apparently took all ten boxes (the thick "new" versions for all of them, not the old slim Digipaks), then placed them in one HUGE printed box the size of a small crate! It's the bulkiest DVD set I've ever seen. Absolutely not for those with storage space issues.

I have phone cam pictures, but will post when I get back from work.

maybe they have lots of individual seasons that are still unsold.  The ugly packaging might just ruin it for me.   Wait ko na lang if they put it on sale, baka... but not at it's present 7950 price.  It is already cheap (795 per season) but hirap i-cash out in one transaction...

The mini-crate is not that bad looking.  I was expecting worse. But still too much of a space hog considering how small the repackaged R1 is.  Not being a big 'Friends' fan, I'll skip this Unless it's put on sale at 50% off, then the irrational collector in me just might buy it. :)

For those who haven't bought this and have a way to avoid customs duties here, the R1 version of this set in the nice slim case is currently on sale at Amazon for only $159.99.

So that's about the same price as the R3, and this one will fit on any conventional DVD shelf, too.

Sorry for the late reply Boss Chino, it is made of hard cardboard but very sturdy. Nope, haven't viewed it at all, not my forte, my wife did watched it and she was done in a week.  ;D

Is it good enough to purchase? I would definitely say yes, especially if you love FRIENDS, buying it would cost less than buying it individually, and it also eats a lot of space in your room.  :D Pwede gawin side table or footrest.  ;D

So am I correct in assuming that the Seasons 1-3 and 6 of this set contain the Broadcast versions of the show and not the extended versions?
