Title: Cayin Tube CD Player

I just bought a stock Cayin CD player. Im very satisfied with it but I would like to hear from other owners. How big is the difference with the modified version. Is it really worth it?  I upgraded the EH 6922 to Telefunken and the mids and high improved.

Congratulation Sir!  I think Hyperaudio (Rene) can answer that! From what i hear more refine & more kick on the lower frequency.

bro, congrats...was able to hear the modified, auricapped, rivoed version...considering that stock tubes were still used, ang galing ng tunog...that's a good CDP, like the jolida jd-100...God bless! 8)

Sir Levi,

Was able to audition the Cayin paired with its monoblock and Duntonic amp Galing!! but not sure kung stock or mod na si Master Hyper.

Try 6H23 tube, great replacement for 6922. I think sir Rene has this.

Sir Levi any difference compared with Jolida? Cayin is using tube as CD Buffer (same as Consonance reference CD) it is not really pure tube Cd player, Cayin is not using OPamp but instead Tubes (Pls. correct me if i'm wrong). Any significant difference? Just curious!

I have not tried auditioning the Jolida so I cant give any comparison. Maybe Rene can give you a better explanation, Im not too familiar with the Cayin design.

fyi, jolida doesn't use an opamp as well...i believe most tube cd players nowadays do not use opamps...thanks! 8)

i auditioned this one . Definitely beats lower priced/model tubed cd player. Improvement in detail, lambing, sounstaging is worth the extra money. Nadagdagan pa ng "taba" ang tunog. Hay, pag mas mahal mas maganda talaga! ;)

i had a chance to listen to this cd player at hyperaudio's place earlier today... its very good. the blue mood light can be turned off via remote - and the display dimmed one step further :)

definitely a must listen if you're in the market :)

I heard the advantage of this Cayin is that you can tube roll unlike consonance  ??? correct me if im wrong ???  For its price range I think its very good.

Anyone else tried this CDP?

disadvantage - "what if..., what if... what if..." ;D

Tube rolling is your option, if your not confident on tube rolling, please dont! you might damaged your equipment ;D

Talagang d ako mapakali eh ??? Everytime na makita ko un Cayin CDP sa system ko, parang may mali sa tingin ko kaya ayun, after 3 days palit na  ::)  Theirs nothing wrong w/ Cayin, actually some tube roll & auricaps solve narin kaya lng d talaga bagay "look wise" sa system ko & un na audition ko na C_N_O_A_C_ eh un stock pa? Nakuha ko un tweak version kaya hay, milya milya. 

Anyway right now im very happy & panatag na loob ko  O0  this is the last missing piece in my set up & im glad tapos na  ;D wala ng upgrade parang awa nyo na hehehehe ^-^  Naku sorry OT na tayo :)

Cayin is very good value for money, I understand out of stock na biruin mo un, ganun kaganda ;D

look wise siguro nga parang meron kulang sir, kasi very simple ang design ng cayin both on CDT-17A and CDT-15A, but I would suggest to AB the Consonance with the CDT-17A. :)

I got my CD player and all I can say is "Ang Ganda na talaga tumunog". I need to breakin it further that means it will improve some more.

Tube from different manufacturers have different characteristics and sound. You can change your existing tubes with other brands but equivalent model thus changing the sound.

been out of the loop ever since my jurassic 5cd nad player broke down...
been looking for a replacement...eyeing a nad c542...
saw this tube cd player partnered with its tube amp...
kaya lang it would break the bank since i have to buy another pair of high sensitivity speakers...

The tube CD plyer wont be affected by sensitivity since it is a source.  As for the amp.  I belive you saw the MT-12 which we have successfully used to drive floorstanders. 

Best way to answer your question is to 1) bring in your speakers (if they are bookshelf) and we can hook it up and audition them.  2) schedule a home audition which we would gladly do.

      You don't need a high sensitivity speaker for tube amps, i'm using an Aurum Cantus Leisure 2se with 87dB sensitivity for my tube amp but when you hear my setup you'd go  :o :o :o.  Get a stable speaker that does not easily dip down.  High sensitivity speakers are easier to drive but does not equate to better SQ in my experience.  just my 2 cents

Yup yup... there is sensitivity and there is also "dippage" and impedance.  Plus to some extent different speaker companies seem to have different measures for their sensitivity.  You can try to test it yourself.  There are some speakers that in spite of their sensitivity is harder to drive than another with lower sensitivity.

Other factors that you need to consider are:
1) room size
2) type of music "most" listened to
3) listening volume

The sound would be much warmer than solid state cdp.  You can connect this cdp to the cd input of your avr and you get a taste of tube flavored avr. :)

probably the same. Cd50 is the lowest model.  Try the cd15 since it already has 2pcs 6922 tubes in it.  There are some 2nd hand cd15's being sold once in a while in the marketplace which you may want to look at.

Do you think upgrading the cdplayer (capacitor to Mundorf and the stock tube to a better kind) will have big sound improvement?

Next time na muna tube amp pare.  Butas na ang bulsa.  I want to maximize my Denon receiver nalang instead of using a separate tube amp.  Ok na din sound pag naka PURE DIRECT mode receiver.  Feeling tube na din kahit isang 12au7 lang umaandar. hehe.

this is the same pathway im taking.....

im in the process of getting a cd50t & will hook it
at the cd analog in of my HK AVR....

will maximize the use of my Harman muna  rather than
buying another (tube) amp.

my question would be,
will i still put my MF X10D with the system?
cd50t--->MF X10D---> analog in of HK AVR

^ i believe you can try to check what works best for you.

but if you like the sound of the x-10d in between the cdp and the amp better than connecting the tube amp to directly the avr, then the price of the cdp isnt really worth it after all.  ;)

Now you can test yourself.

Your CD50T is ready with upgraded NOS Mullard 12 AU7. Wow!! Ganda. Try it with and without the X-10d.

FYI, the CD50T has one tube while the CD15T has two. If you hook up the CD50T with the X-10D, you will have 2 tube buffers like the CD15T. Am just not sure if the quality of the output will be the same.

Trust your ears, sir Jim. There will be a lot of takers for your mint X-10d should you decide to let go.

im now very very eager to go home & audition it! (sana 5:00pm na !!!) ;D

was a little bit disappointed on the crappy remote control
unit it came with.....

Congrats bro!  Yes, you need to open the top cover for any kind of modification.  I saw some units being modified when I got mine from AA.  Some changed to Mundorf caps and Mullard 12AU7.  I'm just not sure if there will be a big sound improvement if you will only connect it to your HK.  Hesitant din ako mag upgrade.  Siguro hintayin ko ikaw muna.  ;D

This is my first cdp purchased and I opted for a Cayin since I've heard a lot of people raving about it.  My set up consists only a cdp to an AVR.  I do not think im in the position to actually tell the performance of the Cayin.  So far, im happy with it but kinda expensive for a cdp.  Some say better to mate it with a tube pre-amp or dedicated audio ss amps.  I've come to realize that my ears cannot really distinguish good sound from a mediocre one.

malaki talaga difference if you're coming from a dvdp to the cd50t, iba ang playback nya ng mga cds kaya its like having new cds again.

I found the output very sweet, especially since it was hooked up to a Cayin SP-10A integrated tube amp. I've since purchased solid state stuff (for overall convenience), but I would keep an eye on the CD-50T and the VC-100i if I decide on building a tube set.

Ganda nyan system na yan sir, very polished and sweet yung output. Yung isa kong kasama thought one of us was whistling dun sa "Isn't She Lovely" na track.

Very lovely sounding setup indeed! I was with Stagea that day as we heard you all tube setup sir Adam Warlock. I'm impressed by it.  :)

Sir I have a NAD integrated on display, we can pair it with CD-50T, please visit us and hear it yourself. It will definitely make your system warmer and luscious , don't want to be bias that's why I'm inviting you to hear it  :)

My friend and I chanced upon the A-50T and the CD-50T in Spectra yesterday. We had them hooked up to PSB Image T55 towers and listened.

Wow, it's the best sound I heard at this price point. Probably not the most accurate or ultimately detailed, but the most involving thus far. The voices were very palpable, the stage was huge, and everything was just smooth yet defined. Punkrocker and I might go to your shop one of these days, as he has not heard the 50T set. We're both SS guys at this point, but I'm greatly swayed by the valve sound. I think he would be too if he gets to listen to these. :) Building a valve system is starting to get very tempting.

Is the CD-12A/MT-12A combo also available locally?
