I'm gonna wait for this one. Good thing I still haven't got the previous releases. Sana this it the last release, and sana it includes dts and better transfer or thx certified even :)

The two disc set is worth already.....what could be the added features of this one? Sir Ridley Scott's director's cut?

I hope they include a collectible booklet. The previous release only contain insert.  :)

As if the 1st release (SIgnature Series) wasn't good enough, here comes, I hope, a better edition. Hope they release this in a nice package, ala Troy LE. Plus the booklet that keating is asking for. ;D
Title: Re: Gladiator Special Edition
Post by: keating on Feb 09, 2005 at 05:54 PM
Yeah the booklet will be a good catch in this edition. Without those butts hanging around the movie itself much better than Troy.  ;D

i think this re-release is worth buying.. a quote from dvdtalk upcoming re-release thread..

Gladiator [Scott] (DC)
”DreamWorks is tentatively planning a multi-disc Gladiator: Director's Cut DVD for 2005, which will include Ridley Scott's longer version of the film (many of the deleted scenes on the previous DVD release will be edited back into the film, and there will be new bonus material as well).”

i am getting this for sure..   8)

Already bought this title four times.. but the movie's just that good! Chances are I'll be getting this one as well.. And a collectible booklet and cool packaging would certainly erase all doubt!

here we go again, uso na talaga ang double dipping, hehehe ;D.....i suspect this release will have 3 to 4 discs on it kaya gumamit ng words "multi-disc" as quoted above instead of the usual "2-disc" or "double disc" to describe this impending release..... 8)

no prob, i have a discussion of this sequel in another thread click here (http://www.pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=34225.0)  ;)

actually reports say that the sequel is more focused on the politics of the roman empire after the death of Maximus.

read this report:

"First, Russell Crowe will not be back. Second, the action will pick up where the first film left off, focusing on the next generation of characters. Third, the film will not have any Coliseum-style fighting, instead focusing on politics and other intrigue. And yes, the script is finished.
- Empire Online
[/i]

hmmm, 'politics and other intrigue' sounds like our regular senate hearings  ;D
i hope its not going to be boring though.  ::)

Early disc specs have arrived for the new extended edition of Ridley Scott's Gladiator which stars Russell Crowe. We'll bring you further details and the official artwork shortly, but for now here's the full rundown on the extra material. We'd like to extend our thanks to Lara Means for this one.

from digitalbits:

Finally, we've learned that there will be no DTS track, owing to the disc space demands of including two versions of the film on a single DVD disc via seamless branching, while still keeping the presentation quality high (an unfortunate but understandable sacrifice that will nevertheless likely be a sticking point with some fans).

 :(

I have second thoughts on this edition. Now that hemisphere said that DTS will not be included. If I remember right....Sir Ridley Scott prefers the theatrical cut of Gladiator same with his ALIEN
& HANNIBAL.

My R1 has a broken hole -- crappy disc holder on that DVD, yours too? So when news of this came out it seems like a good opportunity to replace it. But I won't. The reason is simple -- the high-def version will be with us in a year or two.

Ok, repeat after me: I'll wait for that one instead.  :)

from DigitalBits

Afternoon, folks! Well, in light of the information we posted yesterday regarding Russell Crowe having just completed a new audio commentary track for the forthcoming Gladiator: Extended Edition DVD (a track he recorded together with director Ridley Scott, by the way), we now feel comfortable offering you the COMPLETE and accurate spec listing for the 3-disc DVD set (which streets on 8/23 - no SRP, but expect the price to be in the $25-30 range). Here's what to look for:

Disc One will include two versions of the film in anamorphic widescreen video, presented via seamless branching - the original 155-minute theatrical cut and a new 172-minute extended cut - audio in English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 and English Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround, the all-new audio commentary track with director Ridley Scott and star Russell Crowe, a video introduction to the film by Scott and an Are You Not Entertained? subtitle-style trivia track.

Disc Two will include the feature-length Strength and Honor: Creating the World of Gladiator documentary, composed of 7 topic-specific featurettes (Tale of the Scribes: Story Development, The Tools of War: Weapons, Attire of the Realm: Costume Design, The Heat of Battle: Production Journals, The Glory of Rome: Visual Effects, Shadows and Dust: Resurrecting Proximo and Echoes in Eternity: Release and Impact).

Disc Three will include an Image and Design section with 2 featurettes (Production Design Primer: Arthur Max and Storyboard Demonstration: Sylvain Despretz), a production design gallery, storyboard gallery and multi-angle storyboard-to-film comparisons (with optional audio commentary) for 3 sequences from the film, including the Germania Battlefront, the Chain Fight and the reenactment of the Battle of Carthage. You'll also get a gallery of Ridleygrams (a sampling of the director's own personal storyboard drawings), a costume design gallery, an in-depth production photo gallery and a Supplemental Archive featuring VFX Explorations of Germania and Rome, a gallery of trailers and TV spots and finally, a collection of abandoned sequences and deleted scenes (Alternate Title Design, Blood Version, the Rhino Fight and the newly-discovered Chose Your Weapon deleted scene) including film footage, storyboards, VFX tests and audio optional commentary.

The entire 3-disc set was created by longtime Ridley Scott DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika and his team - the same people responsible for such great past DVD releases as Fox's The Alien Quadrilogy and Sony's Black Hawk Down: Deluxe Edition and Spider-Man 2: Special Edition - so you know it'll be damn well worth the wait. Even if it doesn't have a DTS track. Just remember, folks... there's only so much room on a single DVD-9.

I already have the Signature Selection. But with the nice packaging and exteded scenes, it would be very hard to resist double dipping .

Wow great pic Hemi, very tempting indeed! No double dipping for me... (I hope!!)  ;D Darn....why can't they just call it "LE" instead of "EE". If it's a LE, then I can buy it w/out feeling any guilt  ;D

why they call it AB-another buy,DDE-double dip edition,AP-another purchase. ;D
I'll get this one.Since I still don't have this title. :)

i still haven't made up my mind until now, am torn between the r1 & the r2 japan release na mas gusto ko ang cover art, the question is if both releases have identical discs contents, di ko kasi maintindihan ang nippongo, hehehe ;D......r2 UK is out of the equation coz it has a shorter running time at 164 mins. as compared to r1 w/ 171 mins...... ;)

so if anyone who understands the japanese language is kind enough to translate them & compare to the r1 release, it would be a great help for me & the others who are in the same predicament 8)

thanks in advance :)

Almost all Jap box set has Jap texts also. Yep, the British Board is very strict regarding censorship than any other countries.

The Deer Hunter (r2) has also a significant cut of about 7 or 9 mins. as compared to the U.S. release, for which reason i decided to get the latter although i really like the bonus features of the r2...... >:(

i just ordered Duel r2 in TIN & Double Indemnity from amazonUK coz of big price drop but i found out that both their running times are shorter as compared to the r1 counterparts, so i think the british classification board must be really strict :(
