this is a welcome development, at least for those who wasn't able to own the now very expensive Toy Story: The Ultimate Toy Box (r1).....it would be interesting to find out about this "improved video and sound quality"...... 8)

May 6, 2005 - Another sign that Pixar and Disney may be moving closer to extending their partnership: a listen to Pixar's first quarter conference call for investors reveals that Pixar CEO Steve Jobs had nothing but nice words to say about the studio who not long ago he put down. Jobs stated, "I've been getting to know (Robert Iger, Disney's CEO-to-be) a little bit, and he seems like a terrific guy. If Disney wants to strike a new deal with us, we'll see how things go." Later this year, Pixar is expected to announce their next three films slated for summers 2007, 2008, and 2009. Meanwhile, Pixar's chief financial officer Simon Bax announced that a DVD re-release of Toy Story 2 will likely follow September's Toy Story 10th Anniversary and could be out by the end of the year.

i think i've read it from the digitalbits that a 2-disc release of Toy Story 2 will follow later this year, so a box set for these 2 new releases may not be that far off...... 8)

i think you have to wait another year if you want to get the Toy Story boxset. we all have to wait for the release of Toy Story 3 which is due in theaters this year. :)

i doubt if disney would produce the same state of the art design of the previous UE release.

from digitalbits today.....

We have a little more details on Disney and Pixar's 2-disc Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition (due on 9/6). The film's picture and sound will apparently be "enhanced" with a higher video bit rate (think Sony's Superbit discs) and a new Dolby Digital 5.1 EX surround sound mix (done by the film's original sound designer, Gary Rydstrom). Newly-produced extras on the disc will include 3 featurettes (The Legacy of Toy Story, The Making of Toy Story and Designing Toy Story), a music video of Randy Newman and Lyle Lovett singing You've Got a Friend in Me and a Cars sneak preview. The set's other extras will be recycled from the original Ultimate Toy Box release.

nyehehehe thanks classicman!! buti na lang di pa ako nag preorder  ;D

flyboy, sometimes they do! inconsistent kasi amazon when it comes to changes in prices, nagbabago araw-araw.  so the best way to order is wait til the lowest prices they can offer.  yung lemony snickets, they were able to change my order to less 40% off na dati ko nakuha at 35% off yata.

just wait for an email from amazon, kung wala pa after a week, cancel mo na lang yung order then place another one.

sir Flyboy, amazon will charge you US$20.99 or the price when you placed the order, unless you write them an email requesting for a price adjustment (nangyari na sa akin dati yan :()......or you can cancel your previous order as sir krets pulpol had suggested & then place a new one (i did this early this morning as soon as i find out the price change ;D)

Yes that's a good move daigoro. :)  However, for some hard core fans out there, they will definitely get this edition in order to complete the various releases. As for me, I've no choice but to get this since I miss out the Ultimate Toy Box (now it's selling at over US$80!!)  :o How could I miss out in the first place?? Doh!!  >:(

June 15, 2005 - Just in time for Kwanzaa and Boxing Day, the 2-disc Special Edition re-release of Toy Story 2 will apparently arrive on Monday, December 26th. So says this brand new trailer  (http://www.totaleclips.com/player/splash.aspx?custid=3&playerid=2&clipid=e24040)for the Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition, which is due on September 6th. The unusual Monday and day-after-Christmas release date is a bit perplexing, but this holiday reissue of the blockbuster sequel was hinted at in recent weeks at Pixar's first quarter conference.

Now that the 2-disc Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition re-release has come in, we can immediately confirm some specs and extras without making you wait for a review, which will take quite some time. The feature presentation is offered with a DTS 5.1 track - a Pixar DVD first. Disc One also includes all-new previews for Pixar's Cars (hosted by director John Lasseter) and December's post-Christmas Toy Story 2 Special Edition, new animated menus (a basic text index is provided as well), a new DVD introduction by Lasseter, an Easter Egg of the film's Buzz Lightyear commercial, and the old laserdisc/Ultimate Toy Box audio commentary. The disc's highlight supplement, though, is the brand new 12-minute featurette "The Legacy of Toy Story" which edits together comments from a remarkable roster of important figures in animation and filmmaking at large, including lead voice cast members Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, acclaimed animation directors Brad Bird and Hayao Miyazaki, helmers of cinematic spectacle George Lucas and Peter Jackson, film historians Leonard Maltin and John Canemaker, and Roy E. Disney. Those fearing the loss of the Ultimate Toy Box's "Toy Story Treats" will be glad to know that there are many (exact number to be determined) scattered about Disc 2's menus as Easter Eggs. Among the second disc's bountiful supplements (all 16x9-enhanced) is an unannounced game called "The Claw."

The sound, courtesy of the DTS track, seems more spacious, if not fuller bodied.
My HT equipment is not able to deliver any conceivable changes in video.

Watched my copy last Saturday. I miss the Tin toy animated short, though.
I wish Pixar can release a DVD compilation of their animated shorts  ;D

my utmost gratitude to Artemis for the DVD set

after looking at the video comparison shots at dvdbeaver, the only significant difference is dts. since i already have the ultimate toybox, getting the new release doesnt seem to be a priority anymore

this release has better PQ and lots of new features.  most surprising is the interview with George Lucas and Peter Jackson, who btw is so slim i can hardly recognize him.
