Post by: demented_angel on Jul 13, 2005 at 04:31 PM: It previewed yesterday at Star World. 15 Contestants vie for being the lead singer of INXS. Host of the said reality show were Brooke Burke and Dave Navarro. Heres the official site of the show. http://www.cbs.com/primetime/rock_star/

Btw MIG AYESA was born here in Manila, Philippines but now he's residing in Australia.

W-O-W! if you had to watch just one episode of this show... today's show is probably IT!

my favorites (and forecast for the top 5):

marty (what kurt cobain would've sounded like if he had voice lessons. his "brightside" perf was brilliant.)

jordis (the most "american idol" material of all the contestants. always gives a consistent performance.)

suzy (she grew on me... her versatility is quite a revelation)

JD (a bit cocky... and i HATE his "magic fingers", but he's as rock and roll as it gets.)

mig (his performance of frampton's "baby, i love your way" moved me... truly. needs to shake off a little of his "musical theater" style. but a great performer.)

For me, Rockstar kicks Idol butt! ;D Having Brooke Burke as host is also a major bonus >:D

Yeah, the show today was the best so far. Marty's treatment of "Hit Me Baby One More Time" was absolute brilliance but Mig blew everyone away with his fantastic vocals and piano playing! I actually found myself fumbling for my cellphone and text voting for him...

I hate JD... he really is too cocky and his behavior is better suited for Survivor or The Apprentice

Jordis rocks but I don't see INXS having a female lead (not that there's anything wrong with that)... look at what happened to the post Eli Buendia Eraserheads :)

Ty is also good but he's too much of a Guy Smiley wholesome type... He just doesn't have the bad azz Rockstar appeal

My prediction is Mig Ayesa will win this one. The judges have been very positive to almost all of his performances and he has major audience impact especially with the ladies. He exudes a rockstar appeal very similar to Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler and possibly even Michael Hutchence. He has the added advantage of being Australian plus he's half-Pinoy! (Is he or was he just born here? ???)

I've been watching since first episode. I agree, this show kicks Idol's butt (not Australian Idol though heheheh). I am having a grand time watching this. I especially loved it when MiG sang We Will Rock You, three or four episodes back.... I was cheering in front of our TV. ;D I also liked his performance tonight. Baby I love your way is one song I really, really like...brings back memories from 80's (high school), when that song became a revival. Though I don't think MiG will win. I think it's going to be Marty. He looks a lot like an INXS already. But if MiG does win, okay pa rin. ;)

I admired JD at first, but not so much now....though I especially liked what he did tonight, dun sa clinic (?) when they were asked to do an unfinished INXS song. His song really was the best of all 3.

His mother is from the LEGARDA clan... you know, after whom the street was named after. Last time he was here was roughly 5 years ago. I know all this because his maternal aunt is the chief nurse in the hospital where I'm connected. His cousin on the Legarda side is a member of the band Wolfgang.

It was an awesome performance by MiG, goose bumps all over. I voted 15 times for him... i even texted jetcmd and a couple of friends to vote for him! ;D

so he's pure Pinoy? He doesn't look Pinoy... he looks Eurasian or Amerasian...

Jessica's out! After being in the bottom 3 for 4x, INXS finally took mercy and ended her poor run...
All girl cast in the bottom 3... I knew a female lead would not really jive with the band and the fans know it...
Nice move by Mig inviting Jordis and Marty to join him in the Encore performance

Miguel Alfonso Ramon Legarda Ayesa, now known around the world as MiG (yes, that’s with a capital G at the end, like the MiG Jet Fighter) literally followed me into the world. The joke in our family goes that, just as my mom was being wheeled out of the hospital with me in her arms, his mother Tita Uko had gone into labor and was being wheeled in. He has always referred to me as “Older Cousin Suzie.”

i feel differently... i think a gal can lead INXS. i mean even michael hutchence had some "androgynous appeal"... ;)

who i DON'T see fronting INXS is TY. to be honest... i think he's a bit of a poseur. (and his motown-flavored perf this week kinda confirms my suspicions.) ;D

My money is still on MiG... he's been very consistent and Dave Navarro and the INXS guys have been very kind with their feedback to him... I don't even remember them really criticizing any of his performances... ;D Ganda pa pala ng wife 'nya ;D

I really hate JD's guts... among all the contestants, he is the only one who is always aware of the camera in the mansion and he always "performs" for it... always with his hat tipped to one side... always with his brooding expression... and his endless schemes and strategies he discusses to the camera are irritating since he's the only one doing it... hope he gets cut soon...he should join Survivor next time... :D

I'm hoping to see Dave Navarro pick up the guitar and rock with the houseband... he's a fantastic guitarist although I didn't really like his work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers since his sound changed the sound of RHCP a bit... ;D

I think either of them can pull it off. Siguro maganda kung ibahin na rin ng INXS yung name ng band nila. I think The Farris Brothers yung first name nila so sana balik nila yun. INXS kasi for me is Michael Hutchence. Just my opinion.

I hate that TY used his being black as the reason for his ouster. Why did he bring it up just now when he was bottom 3 three times over? Maybe sacred that his non-black voters might be turned off?

If people didn't like a black guy leading INXS, he could have been booted out waaaaay before.

I would have agreed with him if he pointed out 'gender' instead NOT skin color. He looked gay to me. I tuned in mid-season and I'm wondering if he's 'out' in the show. Not that I have anything against gay people. :)

Got me up and about looking for Rolling STones CDs in AstroPlus-Podium (just one, with songs i didn't recognize) and O (Gblt 1). Ang alam ko lang sa Rolling Stones is "Satisfaction". Which I don't like as much. I also liked Wish You Were Here by Marty. Pink Floyd daw yun? Saka Bohemian, Freddie Mercury rules!

The best thing about Rockstar.INXS is that it made me realize that there are some great rock songs. Now I wanna know what Pink Floyd sounds like.

Ty was the obvious choice as soon as Gary Beers pointed out to him that he used the wrong words for one of the lines in the INXS song he sang... :-X Okay na rin that Ty got cut... I was never really a fan of his style of singing... too bluesy and R&B

I think the last three would be Marty, Suzie, and Mig... (feeling ko Mig is getting tremendous amount of votes from Australia & Asia)... I think the INXS guys are also favoring him a bit since he is a fellow Australian -- just a hunch ;)

yeah... i didn't get that either. ty's always seemed to be a spoiled sport. never accepting the fact that he's in the bottom three in all the times he's been there (thrice, i think.) making it a "color" issue was such a cheapshot! i'm glad he's gone... never liked him anyway. talented but with veiled arrogance.

shame on JD for raining on suzy's parade. she just stated FACT man... and if he can't accept that he totally sucked during the studio clinic, then i say just suck it in and don't lay it out on someone who did their homework.

oh, and have i said enough how much i LOVE suzy and marty?? ;D ;)

What a show again! The Rockers sang songs their fans wanted them to sing plus an original composition! This is really getting very exciting! I was not so taken by JD's Come As You Are performance but was totally blown away by his original... I even forgot that it was an original! It was a superb rock song! The megaphone was pure genius! ;D ;D

All the rest were good as well. I wasn't happy with Mig's performance again. Considering Hard to Handle is one of my favorite songs from my college days, he didn't give it justice. His original wasn't impressive also... I found myself thinking..."yeah yeah yeah... you can sing and play the piano... we already know that."

I didn't even bother voting for MiG... Me thinks MiG will be in the bottom 3 this week... :-\

....loved Brooke Burke's outfit ;) (hey... ba'' wala na yung "devil smiley???") Parang nightie ;D

LOL.) down to whole "raised lip" thing. ugh!

suzy wasn't stellar today... but i'm hoping it's enough to keep her in.

bottom two for me have to be mig and jordis ... if jordis' fans vote their brains out this week. mig could be in serious trouble. :( i just hoppe local mig fans aren't too caught up in the whole PBB phenomenon to forget voting for him. ;)

and ... oh yeah, will someone please tell mig to stop dressing like a gay guy in mardi gras! he's got the abs to pull it off but it's not helping him at all. ::)

actually even the way JD uses his hands (specifically the fingers) constantly during his performances are reminiscent of The King ;D

MiG has lost his magic for me... the others kasi seem to be stepping up already while he's still doing the same things... I just hope he wakes up and starts to kick butt again... I would still hate hearing "MiG, you are just not right for our band INXS." :P

Goodbye Jordis... I think the pressure got to her. She's so young kasi and still inexperienced being in the limelight compared to the rest... her performances really deteriorated including the one kanina when she sang Need You Tonight-- she had no energy whatsoever :P Sayang but kudos to her for reaching the Final 5

MiG is one lucky dude again escaping the bottom 3... IMHO, JD shouldn't have been in the bottom 3 but competition is really tight now and I really believe MiG is getting a lot of votes from Down Under and possibly Europe and from Asia ('Pinas siempre ;D)... JDs poor attitude through out the competition may also be to blame for his being in the bottom 3 -- maybe fans are just not too eager to see him to the finals... :P

With Marty, MiG, JD, and Suzie left, the final elimination next week is really going to be something to watch ;D

it's easy... note first if your post will fall on a "light grey" or "dark grey" box...

if light grey, use the this color: #EEEEEE

if dark grey, use: #DDDDDD

really?... i actually liked the guy from day one. the whole magician thing is so 70s rocker. no one really does that anymore. LOL.

Marty is good although he somehow reminds me of a young, blonde Steve Martin especially when he has his intense performance face on ;D

I think he sings the grungy rock songs very well but "He is not right for our band INXS..." IMHO lang po... His style is not really a fit to the band as INXS had also pointed out before... I hate to admit it but JD's voice and style (these latter weeks) seems to be the one suited to step into Michael Hutchence's shoes... :P

SPOILERS AHEAD:

What a show! What I had been wishing for was granted! Dave Navarro picked up his ax and played along with the house band! He really rocks!

Suzie had to sing Whats Up? and Interstate Love Song. I love that song by STP and IMHO Suzie didn't really give it justice.. .yeah, yeah her stage performance was good especially when she went down to the crowd but her singing didn't impress me today :P

JD again did an amazing job with his re-reperformance of Pretty Vegas. He brought the house down again and with Dave on lead guitar doing his signature slides and bends, the song got a metal edge! Even JD's perfromance of Money was... right on the money ;D I am convinced this guy will get the job or at least be in the Final 3. ;D

Marty also reperformed his Trees original this time he did the acoustic version with himself and Dave playing guitars. He then sang Creep but as with Suzie's performance, I prefer the original version :P

MiG, MiG, MiG ??? INXS was right in their assessment that MiG is too "goody goody" and too much of a theater performer to be a Rock Star. He was given a very dark and heavy song - Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones - this song I also love because it was used as the theme for Tour of Duty... but MiG again managed to "sterilize" the darkness out of the song... his rendition was too sedate... even his rendition of Seal's Kiss From A Rose was not up too par with the original nor did it even come close...

I think with MiG's performance today plus the comments coming from INXS that he is too good natured, he may be the next one to go... I am pretty sure INXS will eliminate him if he lands in the bottom 3... :P

"pretty vegas" works because it sounds like an INXS song! listen to "the strangest party" and "the gift". and main INXS songwriter andrew farris sees that. (andrew IMO is the TRUE genius of INXS ... i'd say about 70% of their catalogue is his music with michael's lyrics) :P

i thought the whole family picture thing is a cheapshot. LOL. JD is just trying to brown nose INXS all over again... he's got charisma, i'll give him that. but andrew was quick to point out that he's irresponsible and difficult to deal with.

marty came off a little too cocky... but i still like the guy. his argument makes perfect sense tho... he can sing INXS back catalogue AND bring a new sound to INXS... something kids today can relate too.

suzy needs a personality implant... she's too jaded at this point. wake up girl. (or at the very least develop some semblance of a rock personality. LOL. she can learn a lot from JD and marty) i was disappointed at her version of an STP classic too. but i think (and this is just me...) next to jordis, she probably has the best studio voice of all the finalists right now. from what little i've heard, her version of the INXS song in the studio clinic was AWESOME!

mig... if u ask me... i think he just might be the next to go. he wask okay but i could see the band members wince deep inside as he roll-called his theater credits. LOL.

Goobye Sweet Suzie McNeal... I knew INXS would not really go for a female lead! Suzie's weak performance of Suicide Blonde also didn't help her case... I do not like Suzie's versions of INXS songs... parang out of breath 'sya palagi...

MiG finally lands in the bottom 3... his rendition of What You Need was fantastic! I think it did him good to finally let the band hear him sing one of their songs... He actually sounded like Michael Hutchence... creepy...

So on to the finals next week! Grabe! This is exciting!

OT: I went to my sister's house and saw my bayaw's CD collection... I was happily surprised to see cds of The Rolling Stones (40 Licks), Queen (Greatest Hits I, II, III), Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon), etc... Almost all the classic rock songs sung in Rockstar I found in the CDs like Start Me Up, Money, Paint It Black, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc... All of them now loaded on my iPod ;D ;D

yup... it's all about chemistry. and when he performed with the band for the first time, you could almost taste it. ("never... never... never... taste it!"... LOL. sorry. got carried away! :P)

i just hope he doesn't blow this chance of a lifetime... INXS isn't squeamish about firing a lead singer if you don't deliver. the other two will have flourishing careers in the music industry for sure. (hoping the same for sweet suzy... ;))

final thought (minor spoiler): maybe the *filthy tee shirt* is what landed him the job... cheeky! LOL.

I think the winner deserves it. His style really blends well with INXS compared to the other guy who gives the band a very grungy sound... ;D

I was hoping he'd win (and win he did) but felt that INXS would go for the more mature and scary-looking MARTY..Having had the chance to sing INXS songs when he landed in the bottom three countless times must have made the band realize that he could be the "One". As for MIG, "Bohemian Rhapsody" must have been the fly in the ointment, the hair that broke the camel's back. Well, at least he thanked the Philippines..

** i LOVE LOVE LOVE the studio version... andrew's new arrangement is soooooo INXS! INXS singer broke, homeless after being fired from band

SYDNEY (Reuters) – The lead singer of Australian rock band INXS, J.D. Fortune, who was picked to replace the late Michael Hutchence in a contest on a reality TV show, said he has been fired without warning from the band.

Fortune, 35, a Canadian rock singer, was living out of his car when he won the CBS network's 2005 reality TV series "Rock Star:INXS."

He became the frontman for the six-man band, taking the place of 37-year-old Hutchence who was found dead in a Sydney hotel room in November 1997 with a coroner ruling he had committed suicide.

With Fortune, INXS released the album "Switch" and went on a world tour in 2006 and 2007 to promote the album that featured the singles "Pretty Vegas" and "Afterglow."

But Fortune told Entertainment Tonight Canada that INXS fired him literally with a handshake at an airport in Hong Kong, leaving the band without a frontman and with a new album on hold.

"I found myself really alone because I had travelled with these guys for 23 months," Fortune told Entertainment Tonight Canada without saying exactly when he was sacked.

He acknowledged that he had been taking drugs including cocaine while with the band but said he had been drug free for two years.

Fortune said he was now back living out of his car and had spent all his remaining money on a solo album called "The Death of a Motivational Speaker."

"From the street to the air back to the street again. It is only me," he said.

A spokeswoman for INXS told the Australian media that she could not comment on Fortune's sacking.
