mine would have to be Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. Growing up in a time of conformists this graphic and nauseating mix of sex, drugs and violence with surf music serving as a soundtrack boldly pronounces that being different is a good thing.

american pie :D(the 1st one!)

So you also wear the Michael Jackson V Shape Jackets which BTW introduced here as a FAD by a young Aga Mulach in the 80's??
Me, I cannot forget it while I was at the 3 level elementary wearing the Thriller Red V Shirt of Michael on Christmas party... ;D

Man, I am counting the years...
For Teen to College Angst: THE BREAKFAST CLUB
Post-Graduation Insecurities: ST. ELMO'S FIRE (MY ALL-TIME FAVE)
Reality Check with the World: WALL STREET
One night, I happened to catch Rob Lowe as the pragmatic White House adviser in The West Wing, right after viewing St. Elmo's Fire. The transformation was jarring: from hedonistic sexy bum without a future to a self-confident man of the world not above pulling a few dirty tricks now and then. And I wonder: how have WE aged?
-
The Wedding Singer...those nostalgic new wave songs and sappy melodies.
-
Forgot to add this: teen issues with a sci-fi angle:
BACK TO THE FUTURE 1-3
Teen issues with an action angle: KARATE KID 1-3

Teen issues with an action angle: KARATE KID 1-3
I really loved this movie back when I was in elementary, particularly Part 1! I hope a special edition DVD of this is in the works... :) right now kasi, Pan & Scam version with no bonus features pa lang ang available!

Yeah, a making-of would be cool, plus interviews with Morita and Macchio. Listening to what the villains have to say should also be interesting. Then maybe we can have an expert discuss the various moves they used for the movies. I had wanted to snap up Karate Kid 1 in Astrovision, but the lack of special features was a letdown.
-
Trekker, me mga magazine tunkol sa Karate Kid sa Book Sale na indepth ang discution tunkol sa movie. Anyway siguro meron pang magandang edition pang lalabas diyan so wait na lang tayo.

;D ;D ;D
The movie that I remembered watching when I was a kid was Star Wars

I grew up a sci-fi fanatic, so the defining movies of my high school days would have to be Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) and Blade Runner. The former transports the familiar gothic "house of horror," Hammer films formula to outer space with chilling, atmospheric results, while the latter is perhaps the finest example of cyberpunk film noir.
Although Blade Runner exploits its material and milieu to travel well beyond the boundaries of traditional film noir, to become a dark meditation on the human condition, the yearning to rejoin with one's creator, and what it means to be truly human. For which we have Philip K. Dick's feverish "Do Androids Dream of Electric SHeep to thank. But Ridley Scott must be lauded for packing so much dense, purely visual information and subtletly into this movie. I've noticed, though, that younger audiences tend to zone out at the film's deliberate (read: plodding) pace. Nevertheless, for me Blade Runner represents a high point in the short history of sci-fi cinema.
-
The Wedding Singer
Lots of great 80's songs (especially liket the soundtrack) and with a cameo of Billy Idol to boot
;D
-
Wall Street. The epitome of 80's excess.

None, as most Filipino movies are not released on DVD.
-
I love the 80's so the movie that I can relate with is of course my favorite movie of all time...ST. ELMO'S FIRE! :)
From its soundtrack of David Foster to Jon Parr's "man in motion", the story of seven friends having difficulty about life after college.
THis movie did not get a single positive review in the entire United States of America during the year of 1985 but the whole cast became a household name.
Sure, Joel Schumacher mess-up Batman & Robin, but his early movies are my favorites because of pop culture and filled with beautiful youth. Only indication that this old man is full of talent and now an A list director.
-
:D - bistohan na! - St Elmo's Fire!
Tx, it seems that we are both on the same age! ;D
-
Mine would be Grease not because I grew up in the fifties ;D but because it was the hot movie during my high school days!
-
But all of these movies are made by Americanos.
-
American Pie! 8)

There is no apt description for my generation- the 80's.It is relative. It could be a very political generation- just think of the rallies after the Aquino assasination that culminated the EDSA1 and the chain reaction it got from all over the world. Or it could be a pacifist generation because in our desire to live peacefully,we torn down the walls of oppression, division. Unlike the 70's advocates, we abhorred the extremes and tended to live within our comfort zones. But we also loved sex so much that after a long time, we produced pornographic movies ( started by Joy Sumilang's Sabik followed by a host of porno flicks). And the Aids. It was in my generation when religions, psuedo-religions, cults, and fellowship groups flourished, hence I can say that my generation is a spiritual one. My conclusion is that two dvds define my generation- Porky's and Caligula.
-

shempre "bagets", hanging out at QUAD and dunkin donuts, listening to 99.5 RT, pa-akyat-akyat ng Baguio, pa beach beach sa tagaytay, pa-party-party sa greenhills at valle verde...Struggling to pass high school and dealing with the intricacies of teenage life sa manila...

The Cannonball Run

Though I belong to the 80's generation, I found out that 80's movies were predominantly mediocre compared to other generations...70's, 60's, 50's, etc.
IMO, the only movie I'd seen that defined my generation is "Bagets"
;D
-
In the 80s the only good Pinoy movie that I really liked was Bagets (1 and 2). Now that defined being young in the 1980s. Technically, VCD copies pa lang ang nakikita ko nito -- no DVDs. But I'm sure there is/will be one.
As the 90s rolled by, it was Singles. Preferred it much more to Reality Bites, which was oozing with so much angst-ridden BS that I actually consider its cast of 90s archetypes willing participants of the Gen X labels they fight against -- unemployed, pseudo-intelellectual, yuppie, gay.
-
it might not apply to others but these were the movies that defined my growing up years, i love movies because of these films..
jaws
carrie
star wars a new hope
superman the movie
the empire strikes back
raiders of the lost ark
e.t
return of the jedi
ghostbusters
back to the future
...there have been better films, but i never get tired watching these titles over and over!
-
As far as i can remember, these are some:
Batman
Jurassic Park
Little Rascals
3 Ninjas
Ninja Turtles
Robocop Trilogy
-
i consider "singles" and "reality bites" like my generation (90's)
but i'd say these dvd's/movies also had influence on defining the generation ;)
speed - every other male schoolmate had the semi kal look.
space jam ! the movie was so popular since MJ was at the peak of his career that time!
batman and robin - geez everyone, even me had the clooney hairstyle! ;D
titanic - all the girls like jack! :-\
jerry maguire - "you had me at hello" - 90's contribution to cheesy lines!
forest gump - oscar best movie with another tag - "run forest run"
brave heart - oscar best movie. one of my all time favorites!
anaconda - the launch of j lo!
goodwill hunting - add ko lang since i like the movie :P
-
hehe, I was shy to post anything here before, until now.
I grew up in the nineties so the movies that really were apart of my growing up are
- The Land Before Time
- The Lion King
- Batman Forever
- Face Off
- Street Fighter
- Mortal Kombat
- American Pie
- Jurassic Park
- Independence Day
and many others :D
-

LOL ;D ... :Di remember those phoebe cates days!
-
Well, I assume that generation means mostly those of the high school days and early years of college. If that's the case, mine would be:
Bagets-the high school movie of the 80s
Zapped!-the very 1st R-rated movie I saw in betamax
Porky's
Revenge of the Nerds-Lambda, Lambda, Lambda
The Beastmaster
Blue Thunder
Return of the Jedi
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Back to the Future
Breakin'-Turbo & Ozone inspired most of my class to breakdance to the extent of headspinning on the teacher's table
Re-animator
Terminator
Top Gun
Aliens
The John Hughes movies (Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller etc.)
and a few more movies in the era that were already mentioned by the others
