While we're on the subject of DVD producers, our good friend Michael Pellerin (who crafted the The Lord of the Rings DVDs) is featured in a new Hollywood Reporter interview discussing his work on the DVD version of Peter Jackson's upcoming King Kong. Michael and Peter also worked together to produce some of the features on Warner's soon-to-be-released DVD of the classic 1933 King Kong. According to Michael, Universal has set Jackson's Kong for release on disc in April '06. Expect LOTS of great extras.

another must-have DVD, another gastos....... :( 8)

Also today... and this would normally go in The Rumor Mill (so be sure to take it as such)... sources I trust are telling me today that Peter Jackson's King Kong is tentatively being planned by Universal for DVD release in early April of next year. That's a nicely timed bit of information, don't you think?

so true...... ;D ;D
anyhows, will get this one para naman magkaroon ng sense ang pagkuha ko ng Production Diaries...hehehehe ;D

Gastos...gastos...gastos!!! ;D I've already exceeded my quota for this year by a shelf. This year was a good one for DVDs but a bad one for my pocket. ;D Will definitely get this...liked Pellerin's work on the LOTR DVDs. I hope that he'll give this an even better treatment. :D
-
I'll definitely get this. If only to better understand the film. Wala akong na-gets na dialogue with noisy kids behind me at the SM Sucat theater last night. And I have no plans to rewatch it in theaters.

Hahaha... I'm very lucky that there wasn't single noisy kid when I watched this last Tuesday. Gonna watch it again tomorrow. BTW, I'm so getting this and if ever Peter Jackson will release an "Extended Version" of the movie on DVD.

Actually, according to some reviews, Jackson shot a scene in a cave where the protagonists were attacked by monstrous creatures but was taken out to shorten the fiilm.. With the theatrical version already 3 hours+ some reviewers cringed at the thought there'd be an extended version. ;D But I guess if you're a fan, you just can't get enough of that.

I'm expecting this to have an extended edition and a gift set hopefully with a miniature king kong from sideshow weta. Don't forget, the director is Peter Jackson. :)

Crossing my fingers na ganon nga mangyari. ;D

knowing peter jackson, he'll definitely go the extended version route. so is it safe to assume na di muna dapat bilin yung lalabas sa april na dvd...

King Kong (2005)
Word has it that director Peter Jackson's King Kong will be released in April as an elaborate two-disc set. According to DVD producer Michael Pellerin, they've saved a lot of behind-the-scenes material for this release that wasn't included on the recently released Kong Production Diaries. No word yet if Universal and Jackson will also release an "ultimate edition" extended cut a la New Line's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

King Kong (2005)
Peter Jackson's recent remake of King Kong looks like it will be released on March 28th. Keep in mind that the studio hasn't officially announced anything yet, but we're getting lots of emails from people in the home video industry alerting us to this date. As always, dates do change so stay tuned for further information.

this would probably be a great DVD. It would go well if you had the original movie. ;)

Definitely...still looking around for one. It seems that no one's disposing any of their extra copies. Limited kasi...high collectability value. ;) A real keeper!
I might be forced to order na lang... ;D
-
I'm sure Peter Jackson will not disappoint us with his "ultimate" release. Will be CooL if the extended will give us more an hour similar to the LOTR part 3. the longer the better! ;D

in related news, also from thedigitalbits.com:
Finally, eagle-eyed Bits reader Jason G. noticed an interesting omission from yesterday's list of the features on Universal's forthcoming King Kong: Special Edition. Specifically, missing is Prod. Diary 77: 13 Weeks to Go, which features a look at the recording of Howard Shore's music from the film. No doubt this had to do with Jackson's 10th hour replacement of Shore with James Newton Howard as the composer of the film's soundtrack (Jackson and Shore were reportedly having trouble finding common ground on the Kong score). You can view the original clip in Quicktime format here at Kong is King.net (while it lasts).
Stay tuned...

Just a day after we posted information about the possibility of an extended edition of The Chronicles of Narnia coming to DVD... we're now hearing that Peter Jackson and Universal may be planning a King Kong: Extended Edition as well. Arnaud Calistri, the editor of the French DVD news site DVDRama, e-mailed me yesterday to say that Universal France has just confirmed that a deluxe King Kong "box set edition" is being prepared for DVD release in November of this year, and that it will feature a new edit of the film itself. France will also be getting the same two editions the studio just announced for release here in the States on 3/28, but not until August. We're working with our own sources to try and confirm this, but it definitely seems like a possibility given Jackson's track record with his Lord of the Rings extended DVDs.

DVD.IGN Peter Jackson interview regarding possibility of an Extended Cut:
IGN: Looking at the Production Diaries, it appears that there were a number of scenes that were either truncated or removed, such as the swamp sequence.
Jackson: Really, there's quite a few scenes that were cut, yeah.
IGN: Do you have plans to cut them back in for a longer director's cut?
Jackson: I hope so, yeah. That's pretty much Universal's decision, but I'm hoping at some point we'll get a chance to actually have a longer version of Kong because there's certainly a lot of very good stuff; there's a lot of dinosaur action, there's more dinosaur sequences, and as you saw, there's the journey across the swamp. There's a couple of sequences between Ann and Kong that we trimmed out. There's actually some nice scenes that, well, that's one of the beauties with DVD is that often you do get a chance with extended cuts to finally complete those scenes and finish them. But that's a decision that's very much in Universal's hands and they haven't made that decision yet.
IGN: I had a chance to preview the extras on the DVD, and I noticed there wasn't a commentary track on this. Did you make that decision to hold off, or was that something you planned for that possible future version?
Jackson: It was basically a decision that was based on the way that we did the Lord of the Rings films, which was that we never did commentary tracks on the initial release of the film and we saved our commentary tracks for an extended cut. On the Lord of the Rings films, the commentary track - well, you can really do a commentary track only once, and we just got into a pattern on the Lord of the Rings films of saving the commentary track until we had the extended cut and then doing the commentary track to that particular cut. So we've done the same thing here, even though Universal hasn't made up their minds whether they want to do an extended cut, we're saving the commentary track so that if they do make that decision, that's where the commentary track will end up going.

Ofcourse, studios are often testing the market to see their reactions. And as Jackson intimated, there are many scenes cut that can be restored on DVD. And I wouldn't be surprised if the cuts will be restored not in one extended edition, but in many succeeding editions. Studios have plenty of gimmicks to squeeze out the juice out of dried turnips. And this one is far far from being dried yet. ;D
