Title: What currently available DVDs will be out of print in the future?
Post by: turbospaceman23 on Dec 05, 2005 at 12:47 AM
I'm referring to DVDs that are currently available out there but are fast becoming hard to find or scheduled to be cancelled (i.e. limited copies only).  :)

Actually, this is to help out people like me who have a long list of DVDs to buy but are not sure which ones to buy first.  :) For instance, I've been putting off buying certain 80's cartoons like G.I.Joe and Jem or the Army of Darkness Boomstick Edition because i've been buying other stuff only to find out na out of print na pala. Sayang!  :'(

So if we know which ones are fast running out, yun nalang unahin natin sa list hehe

umm, is this is a stupid topic? mods, delete nalang kung useless ah, sorry

According to Amazon.com, Disney have discontinued making the Lion King DVDs as of January 2005. (Just search "Lion King" under Amazon). They will continue selling daw until stocks run out. Considering that the R3 is now very hard to find, I can assume that the R1 will follow soon.

Those who don't have a copy yet should try grabbing one since this is a real Disney Classic.

Most Disney titles are said to be preparing for their release in HD-DVD or Blu-Ray formats next year. No more DVD releases.   Can anyone further confirm this?

nope. not true. though discussions re releasing The Little Mermaid PE in the new format have been lingering. (this is in the spirit of historical relevance since TLM is the first film released on DVD by Disney.) they wont abandon DVD especially with continuing Disney Treasures Titles and Platinum Edition lines sched til 2008/09.

i find this topic difficult to support since studios dont usually disclose legality or duration of licenses. for disney platinum edition, each title is given 1 year in the market and then discontinued.

Just curious... if a title carries the Limited Edition mark, does it mean it will go out of print immediately or the soonest???

it depends if the title is really a hit or it offers unique packaging and the works. but there are old LEs that until now its still available. memento for one is an example.

My feeling is that different editions are released to keep sales up. Ownership is made secure through lobbying, which changes laws and extends copyright terms. For example, it's now 75 years in the U.S. and 50 years in most parts of the world. Further lobbying and pressure can lead to copyright ownership of 100 years or more.

What I'd do is to let a title go out of print, drum up hype about a new edition or new format, and let the buying frenzy happen once more.

Bambi II.  It's OOP in the States (according to Amazon), but still available until stocks runs out (again according to Amazon).
