Title: Dazed And Confused - Criterion Collection (06-06-06)
Post by: hemisphere on Jan 15, 2006 at 08:54 PM
This appeared in the Arts & Entertainment section of today's Austin American Statesman:

"2003 marked the 10th anniversary of Richard Linklater's enduringly great 'Dazed And Confused,' and the film's hometown - Austin - partied in appropraite manner with a thronged anniversary soiree thrown by the Austin Film Society. Having the cast and the producers in town for the bash made it easy to film all the key players in one place, and that's what AMC did for the new doc 'Making Dazed,' premiering at 9pm, Sunday on cable channel 63.

Shot at Linklater's bucolic home outside Austin, the fun, illuminating program includes behind the scenes footage of a shaggy haired Linklater at work in 1992 and new interviews with actors whose careers were launched by the movie: Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey, Ben Affleck, and Adam Goldberg. Hear about the passion, the struggles, and the '70s wigs in this festive slice of Austin movie lore. And keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming deluxe DVD of 'Dazed And Confused' from Criterion."

Wow! I never thought that a movie where people listening to rock music and smoke reefer could make it into the Criterion catalogue...(sa bagay, a movie about comic books and lesbians did make it).  This is one of Linklater's good movies, I haven't bought any edition of this. And I guess, if the Criterion edition comes to fruition, it's about time I did. ;)

About the film's new transfer:
Dazed and Confused is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are normal for this format. Director Richard Linklater and director of photography Lee Daniel supervised this new high-definition digital transfer, which was created on a high-definition Spirit 4K Datacine from a 35mm interpositive. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, and scratches were removed using the MTI Digital Restoration System. To maintain optimal image quality through the compression process, the picture on this dual-layer DVD-9 was encoded at the highest-possible bit rate for the quantity of material included. The soundtrack was mastered at 24-bit from the original stems, and audio restoration tools were used to reduce clicks, pops, hiss, and crackle.

since this is a new released title, i bet they'll still be having tons of stocks by the year ends (when we have enough resources to save). i guess redge is right that during the holiday season there will be special promos.

To wait, i think is the best option right now. "Patience is a virtue bros..."  ;)
