dunno if this has already been discussed directly, but do you keep the speaker grills on or do you take it off? is there a difference in sound quality if you take the grills out or is this just for aesthetic purposes? ???
-
Grills are protection to so many things ;D
but since my surrounds are high enough to be reached by my kids, they are without the grills. To me theyre better or more detailed without them on soft listening. :)

Parang meron ng thread ng ganito in the past.
It really depends on the design of the speakers. Some speakers were voiced in the factory with the grills on to somehow flatten frequency response. I recall some speakers don't allow their grills to be taken out, they're fixed. Some speaker models of Sonus Faber have very exquisitely made grills that are really meant to control the sound dispersion as it was designed.
But in general, detached speaker grills can provide unhampered wave flow from the drivers with none of the diffraction caused by the grill frames.

so it's not just for aesthetic purposes lang. now the only concern here is to make sure that it's kept out of reach from mischievous hands or sharp objects ;D

I usually take the speaker grills of when listening to music or watching movies. I can't tell much difference though, although I am happy seeing the speakers.
-
Didn't notice any difference w/o the grilles, but if you have kids, I'd suggest you keep it on. ;)

Mas OK ang may grilles.
Grilles are intended to protect the speakers from the elements and from accidents. The only drawback is that grilles will unavoidably cause some diffraction for high frequencies, even if the grille's material is highly transparent sonically. Thus, removing the grilles should produce slightly less muffled highs.
However, some speakers are designed to be used with the grilles on. When speakers are already factory-voiced with grilles on, you get the correct frequency response with the grilles on, but a brighter output with the grilles off. In this case, removing the grilles would not be a good idea if you're looking for accurate reproduction.

i totally agree, problema pa yan. so we should keep our grilles on ;D

I just want to inquire the warranty on the wharfedale grills. Last night, while doing my first maintenance on my setup, I accidentally broke the grill of my diamond center channel.
Kita mo na... sabi ko na nga ba wag nang tanggalin e.... :(
-
ako with grills....mahirap na..... ;D....warranty doesn't cover.......accidental finger poking ;D

yes, with grills para sigurado.. especially may mga toddler pa ko sa bahay

matinding audiophilia na yan pag nadinig mo ang difference ng sound between with or without grills. ako hindi ko pa nadidinig so I keep 'em grills where they belong. ;D
regards
-
;D i'd keep my grilles on since there was actually a purpose why it was made and placed there...for speaker cone protection.
though sometimes it looks nice w/out the grilles on but ill keep it on. :D

habol ako dito sa thread..... for safety and protection (parang c****m), mas maganda na me grills.. for aesthetics naman, ok pag walang grills... sarap kasi pag masdan nung mga drivers pag hubad eh... pero pamindan minsan lang tatanggalin para hindi madumihan ang mga drivers.....

nice one... i agree

For some reason some speakers respond differently with grill on or without. For critical listening I usually take them off. Generally speaking (and like I said doesn't apply to all speakers) Taking off the grills usually produce a more open and usually slightly brighter sound. I'm using a pair of speakers right now that doesn't really care if its covered or not. ??? I guess it depends talaga. Just do what suits you the best.
-
really depends on what the speaker specifications says...some are really designed to work with the grills on while others wouldnt care if they off or on. mine would specify in the manual that they should be played with the grills on....and its really sounding very different with and without the grills.

with grills...
mahirap na ma-poke mo lang ng isang beses yung speaker mo ng hindi sinasadya iiyak ka nalang niyan sa isang tabi :P

With grills. It may filter some of the highs but I love to protect my speakers from dust. :)
