What is the best DVD authoring software that could burn AVI,DIVX,XVID and Mpeg files?

Is it adviseable to convert DivX/XviD files into DVD format for viewing on a standalone non-DivX capable DVD player or will there be a degradation in the quality?

From compressed format, then compress again, not that good.

you may want to try ulead's dvd workshop. they give free trial here http://www.ulead.com/dws/trial.htm
I have tried using it a few times but I don't have enough video types to play around with. I was only able to try avi, mpg, quicktime, haven't tried divx/xvid yet.

im planing to make a dvd, i have no idea what authoring software to use! i wana create sana all those menus with video and sound playing at the background. What's easy to use? its my first attempt afterall ;D

Bro i use Adobe Encore. I havent tried other DVD authoring suites though. Kasama lang sya sa bundle ng binili ko kaya yun ang gamit ko.

try dvd workshop or sonic dvdit pro, very easy to use...
if you want unlimited possibilities, try dvd lab pro...
anyway, i dont recommend using authoring tools to handle the conversion. the worst video quality i've seen is using nerovision...
try to use different tools like cinema craft encoder or tmpgenc to do the conversion then use your fave authoring appz to create menus. etc...

I've used Cyberlink PowerProducer (came bundled with DVD writer). Results were surprisingly good for a no-frills quick and dirty divx straight to DVD conversion. Since you're dealing with divx, I doubt it if you're concerned with such things as menus and chapters.
If you want something more advanced then TMPGenc converter and TMPGenc DVD authoring is very good

Since divx doesn't come with chapters and menus in the first place, I don't think it is something that will be missed.
But hey -- if you enjoy doing that and have the time to burn for it, go ahead and have fun. To each his own.

That is why you are goign to use DVD authoring software to create DVD menus and chapters to any souce video file youe want.. be it divX.
With Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5 or DVD Workshop 2, you can create DVD with motion menu, motion background. With DVD WS2, you can create subtitle, multiple audio tracks. With DVD MF5, you can create 16:9 menu, menu transition and many more...

Agree with you. That's why I spend the time and effort authoring DVDs for my home videos. Those are keepsakes that are well worth the effort.
But for divx..especially the kind you get off the net...might as well spend a few pesos and get the p_D_D if you want the menus and chapters. Again just my point of view. :)

Most DVD authoring software should be able to do this as long as it has the option for you to make a custom menu.
Karaniwan kasi sa mga predefine menu templates eh 4-6 chapters per page lang ang kaya. Kapag more than eh magkakaroon na ng susunod na menu pages.
Pero kung predefined menu templates ang gusto mo, TMPGENC DVD Author 1.6. There is a predefine menu template that can accommodate up to 24 chapters.

I have a Sony DCR-HC90 MiniDV camcorder and I wanted to buy the 4-channel optional microphone, specifically the HQP1 to create a home movie with 5.1 surround sound. I only know of one software that can capture the sound recorded using that mic and that is Click To DVD which only comes with a Sony VAIO laptop. Sony customer support can't even suggest any software to do that. >:(
Good thing Avant in GB3 allowed me to capture a couple of minutes to test if I can output the 4-channel audio captured using the HQP1 4-channel mic before buying. When I tested it using my sofware (Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus) it wasn't able to output the audio in their proper channels.
To experts out there, do you know of any software that can make use of the recorded 4-channel sound and output it in dolby digital 5.1? I'm getting desperate. If you want a test file (in AVI format), I can provide you one. My ultimate goal is to create a descent quality DVD with menu, and dolby digital 5.1 audio, using (if possible) only 1 software. I have created a number of DVDs (home movies) with excellent picture quality with good menu in Studio 9 but was unsuccesful outputing the 5.1 surround sound.
Any suggestions?
