i agree......it should be the video transfer, & not the extras nor the packaging, that would somehow encourage me to double dip on this 8).......both the frst release & the SE have terrible transfers to say the least :( >:( ???

Been holding off buying any previous release because of video transfer issues. It will definitely be a plus if they improve the transfer. Great movie... ;)

Here are early details of the UK version:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment/MGM has announced the release of Platoon: Ultimate Edition for the 6th of March, priced at around £19.99. The disc will feature a digitally remastered anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, a collector's booklet, exclusive postcards (x4), a commentary by Oliver Stone, a second commentary by Captain Dale Dye, a 'Bringing it all Back Home' featurette (15mins), a 'Lights Out' featurette (10mins), a 'Tour of the Inferno' making-of documentary (50mins), still galleries (behind the scenes and poster art), the original theatrical trailer and TV Spots (x3).

Johnny Depp had a minor part in Oliver Stone's Platoon, which won four Oscars. His role expands on the Platoon 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition DVD, due May 30 (Sony, $25).
Depp, who plays a private in the film, appears in some footage that hit the cutting-room floor. The film stars Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe. "Oliver Stone remembered additional footage he had shot," says Marc Rashba of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. "We finally found more than 10 minutes of footage mislabeled in film archives."
The two-disc DVD set also will include new interviews with Stone and three new documentaries about the Vietnam War and the making of the film.

that's correct! that's the prob with the current UE-R2 release. it's DTS but the audio is way down the audio standard.

di ko agad nabalitaan na lalabas ito sa double disc but im already contented kasi kelangan ko lang naman ito para makumpleto ko ang American Film Institute's 100 greatest american films

No problem sir redge...I know that a lot of people are waiting for this release kaya I try to look for any kind of news on this everytime schedule permits. ;D Details about packaging are still sketchy...Still hoping that it does come in Digipack since MGM 2-Disc CE. But the inclusion of a DTS soundtrack and photocards are enough for me to decide on purchase. But of course, a nice Digipack in an even more nice looking slipcase will be a bonus already. ;) Mejo expensive nga sir...

Looks like I missed reading this thread... glad I saw. I still don't any previous release of this one, and now because it's 2-Disc, it becomes a definite buy on my list...

Had the same problems with my copy. I think the slipcase or the shrinkwrap is too tight so it is very difficult to remove & return the Amaray case. What I did was just push & pull it out firmly but carefully. Will finish watching everything before returning it back to the slipcase. Regarding the transfer, I have not seen the previous editions so cannot compare. However I think the 20th Anniversary transfer still leaves a lot of room for improvement. There are still noticeable specks & dirt. For me, the best thing about this edition are the SPecial Features.

hey.. would this release be similar to R2 in terms on contents? i would order the R1 for the price but still prefers the Region 2 UK release packaging-wise.

sir redge, it seems that the R2 UE is similar to the R1 in terms of contents...the booklet for both is similar. No postcard for the R1 though. Disc art is different for R2. Content wise...same listed features also. Ganda ng R2 sir redge... ;)

checked transfer late last night...it isn't what I expected. I haven't seen the previous editions' transfers though it seems that this isn't deserving of a re-issue since the transfer isn't any good. But the slipcase is kick-a**! ;D
I guess it'll do for now... ;D
