The biopic of one of the most interesting and political figure during the Marcos era comes alive finally on the big screen under the helm of Marilou Diaz Abaya produced by Cesar Montano's film outfit now on its pre-production stage. Being an alumni of People Power I, this movie is a must for me!
I wonder how will Abaya present the assassination at the tarmac and who will play Ferdinand & Imelda Marcos?
The cast so far:
CESAR MONTANO- Ninoy Aquino
MARICEL SORIANO- Cory Aquino
Thank God, Kris Aquino has turned down one of the most important roles in this movie. ;D
-
Kris could've played the NAIA tarmac to much acclaim...
Anyway, I thought Montano was going to direct this. Knowing that it's going to be Abaya --- well, I still feel the same reservations. I feel that this biopic will be one long glamorized retelling of Aquino's life (basically what Abaya did with the antiseptic Rizal) and not a deconstruction of his life and the myth surrounding him, which would be far more interesting.
-
I believe that if they're going to make a film about Ninoy Aquino, they should focus more on the assassination since it'll be more interesting and less pretentious than the life of a politician. Speculate, if they must.
-
I would have preferred someone like Ricky Davao to play Ninoy than Cesar, buy i guess Cesar draws much more box-office clout...
who's gonna play Kris? :)
-
Wait, you mean Kris is the daughter of Ninoy and Cory? Why, I never...
-
After watching Pio de Castro's SOLTERO, the late Jay Ilagan is so perfect for the part of Ninoy Aquino! He has depth and tremendous range as an actor. Too bad he is no longer around. :(
The former Pres. Corazon Aquino has already agreed on the casting of Maricel Soriano to portray herself.
-
this project has the makings of another Jose Rizal...
-
Let's see if Abaya will make a good shot of it, will it beat the high-escalating budget of Jose Rizal? I hope she learned from her mistakes.
Montano was almost eaten alive by the supporting cast of Jose Rizal from Jaime Fabreagas to Peque Gallaga and Pen Medina.

There was a film before that Marilou shot after the Edsa Revolution, 4 DAYS IN FEBRUARY if I'm not mistaken. The torture scene of Anjo Yllana was filmed already, cast includes the late Charito Solis.
Marilou and Charito Solis were on the streets in Edsa while the revolt was happening while Abaya's film SENSUAL was also being shown theatrically. The Edsa Revolution will be very vital in the biopic of Ninoy Aquino.

will they go on location in the United States to film scenes of Ninoy in exile in Boston? I know what role Kris can play, she can play June Keithley. Since Kris is a TV host herself anyway, it wouldn't be too much of stretch since June keithley was also a TV host who fould herself on the forefront when she broadcasted from the newly liberated, formerly Marcos-controlled TV station RPN 9.
-
They will go overseas, probably. Shooting will start January next year. June Keithley is a wonderful host and actress, check her out in Lino Brocka's LUNES, MARTES, MIYERKULES, HUWEBES, BIYERNES, SABADO, LINGGO.
-
I know June Keithley. Very classy woman, and Kris Aquino she ain't.

You took the words out of my mouth, Noel. If they do not want to cheapen whatever effects this movie will have on the public they should not even consider Chlamydia Lady for any role.

Tessie Tomas can still play Imelda Marcos whether comic or serious. She's a stand-out in that stage play and excellent in A DANGEROUS LIFE.
-
Tomas is a tremendous actress and actually a quite sharp scriptwriter. She did the script to--uh, Separada, I believe, but a lot of the good parts weren't used.
-
Was it TESSIE TOMAS also who played Imelda Marcos in Rono's ESKAPO? The film has a distinctive look that takes you back in the early years of Martial Law.
-
That was Teresa Loyzaga. She was magnificent, and for maybe less than a minute screen appearance.
-
well, Kris obvoulsy can't play herself, she'll have to lose a few pounds and shrink down a couple of bra sizes to play a 13-year old, but I have to admit when I first saw Kris on TV in '86 I thought she was kinda cute, in a mousy knd of way. I was only a few years older than her so I thought "Hmm, bagay kami!"

Man, I didn't know that it was Teresa Loyzaga. She has no dialogue but her presence exudes very well on the screen as Imelda.

Cesar Montano stepped in for his 2nd directorial effort after PANAGHOY SA SUBA. Cory Aquino now wants her daughter Kris to portray herself.
Kris would be better in horror movies, and they have very different and contrasting personality. Principal photography will start next year.
-
Panaghoy was Cesar's second. Mananabas is, if I remember correctly, his first. Was not impressed.
-
I can't remember MANANABAS, Noel. Sorry its Montano's 3rd directorial effort. PANAGHOY SA SUBA was included in Joyce Bernal's top ten best Filipino films.
-
natawa ako sa observation ni nestor torre na malayo yata masyado ang itsura ni cesar kay ninoy!at kailangan daw ng real acting talent for kris to become cory! ;D
-
huwag na sana si kris ang gawing cory aquino. she acts too hystrecal! her performances in "vizconde masscre" and "myrna diones" were at its worst.
