Title: Favorite TV Series that should be on DVD
Post by: firewired on Apr 15, 2001 at 02:17 AM
Now that they've started releasing favorites like The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, and Knight Rider - and 60s cult hits like Thunderbirds and The Prisoner are proven bestsellers in Amazon UK and Blackstar - what shows should they release next on DVD?

Let me start this off with the following:
[/b]
Also does anyone remember the Super Six animated series? Man, I'd love to see that in a premium boxed set.

I agree with China Beach, Seinfeld and Amazing Stories. The latter reminding me about how much I loved The Twilight Zone & Alfred Hitchcock Presents (Some episodes are included in the Alfred Hitchcock boxed set, but not the complete series).

I'd also like to hear about the whole Friends & ER series being released on DVD.

More titles off the top of my head would be:

I like Tour of Duty! Perhaps Falcon Crest? That was really popular in the eighties. I'd also like to see Robin Williams and Pam Dawber in Mork and Mindy.

I think Friends is already being released in region 3. Actually I already saw season 1 being sold at some outlets like Astrovision and Tower records. They go for 2400.00 for 3 discs (the whole season, packaged in a box). I would like to see Mad About You in dvd. And yes it will be a sin not to have Seinfeld in dvd. And also Buffy the vampire slayer. Charmed too!

Hey Archer, can confirm the Friends series on DVD. Saw it in Astrovision, too. MY sister's a big fan, and has a complete collection (Region 2, tho, she lives in Holland).

According to her, they're actually making a director's cut version for the next seasons (season 7 onwards) I have no idea what the heck that means inside, but in terms of discs, that doubles the number of DVDs, and probably the price!

Oh, yeah! Here are the series I'd love to see on DVD:

Action
Mighty Orbots
Transformers
GI Joe
The Real Ghostbusters
Whose Line is it Anyway

It's funny tho how certain regions, excluding Region 1 - the big kahuna of all DVD regions - have certain TV series on DVD like Friends. I wonder why... Do fans in the U.S. tape the series? Or are the producers just capitalizing on certain regions not having the show on TV? Dunno

Oh, yeah! I got another great series to put on DVD: Survivor (uno y dos) They only have highlights so far, yuk.

I don't know about what TV series SHOULD be on DVD. What do I know? This is is a list of TV series that I would personally like to be on DVD. I already mentioned limited series like Shogun and Highlander TV Series so I would also like to add:

Sapphire and Steel
Three's Company
V
Roots
Centennial
Man from Atlantis
Batman (with Adam West)
A-Team
Mission Impossible (with Martin Landau)
Equalizer
Mr. Belvedere (yes really!)
Voltes V and Daimos
I Love Lucy (meron na ba?)

For the meantime, masaya na rin ako sa aking Lonesome Dove  ;D

green_archer, I wouldn't recommend buying the Friends Season 1 boxed set from Tower Records since they charge P2,400 for the whole package. I saw the same set over at Electronics Depot and Astrovision; they charge only P650 per disc, which would amount to only P1950.

MultipleAngles What do you mean your sister has the complete collection? They've already released Season 5 onwards over there in Holland?

Komikero Ditto on V! Thumbs up!

Most Important of All:

The Simpsons

Others:

MacGyver
The Wonder Years
Quantum Leap
The Real Ghostbusters

Definitely The Simpsons - flyderman, I have a lot of episodes on VHS, though, taped when I was in the US. But not enough, and having them on DVD would rock.

Hill Street Blues
Sapphire and Steel - komikero, you rule for recalling that show!
Action
The Twilight Zone (the 1980s updated versions, not the 1960s Rod Serling originals which are already available.
Moonlighting
Connections - I wonder if anyone else remembers this extremely well-written "alternative view of change" by James Burke. PTV-4 used to air it in the 80's. Later on, updated versions played on The Discovery Channel, but nothing equalled the first run. I even have Burke's book. This science show puts the late Carl Sagan's Cosmos to shame.

Hi! This is my first time to join any discussion forum so please bear with me.

From the above list by Komikero, dag-dag ko na rin Space 1999 and UFO. These are the shows that I used to watch while surviving MIT (Mapua Tech). I'm thinking if I will spend hard earned money on the Thunderbirds DVD.

Also will be happy if UK will release on DVD (kahit tape) the numerous episodes that used to air in Channel 9's SST (Sunday Suspense Theater) after Nora's Superstar. I wish to recapture the feeling then of being surprised at the tail-end of the story.

I hope also to see the two seasons of V on DVD. I only have the tapes for the first season (?) when they defeated the aliens with a virus spread by balloons.

Next time, I'll be more comfortable using smileys. ;)

Ey Phoebus ! Yupyup, she's got all 6 seasons right now. I'm looking at em right now (am on Vacation here). They're sets of 3 DVDs too, but like I said, the producers are gonna double or triple the number because they'll add "directors cuts".

Thanks Gonz!  Sapphire and Steel truly rocked, in my opinion. Very creepy, strange, mysterious, very Xfiles even before there was an Xfiles. I remember staying up very late at night back in the early 80's just to watch this on tv.

Welcome, Viper!

Hello there viper! Welcome to PinoyDVD, glad you could join us. At least you remember the episode of V when they defeated the aliens. All I can remember are the rats! :P

MultipleAngles, Really? Any news if the series will reach PI anytime soon? All we have right now is Season 1.

flyderman Good call on MacGyver! Almost forgot that one.

Add to the list all the episodes of The Three Stooges (Amazon only carries a few random episodes.) Curly Is The Man!

I would love to see the following again :

Anna Liza
Flor de Luna
Yagit
Champoy
Chicks To Chicks
The Best of Lovingly Yours Helen
The Best of Kahapon Lamang

I know they are campy but they are still a lot better than what's on Pinoy TV right now.

Something I enjoyed as a kid was Three's Company, so if the dvd comes out maybe I'll buy it.  I'm not sure if I'll still enjoy it as much.  I wish there will be a Golden Girls box set - that I'l buy! and my favorite ------>

kakabanas I can still remember the theme song to John en Marsha!

Phoebus, Dilbert animation series was fun.Though it didn't last long, some video rentals here carry the episodes that were shown and new ones that never aired. I doubt if they will be availabe in DVD due to limited market.  :'(

I want the John and Marsha episodes, pre-80s ... with young Maricel Soriano sporting pony tails that were braided. And Rolly Quizon isn't married yet to that boring actress. Ahhh, I can still picture Dely Atay-atayan and Matutina together ... do you think they were version of so gay master-servant relationship of Mr. Burns and Smithers of The Simpsons ?  ;)

Kakabanas, I hope RPN Channel 9 had the sense of maintaining their archives of Martial Law era series like John and Marsha with the hope of making them available again to viewers like us and let our children see the difference between the shows now and the shows then.

A little trivia: Did you know that the episode-ending sermon of Dona Delilah: "Kaya ikaw John, magsumikap kaaaaa" is a requirement by the government censors then to put positive values in the show? ::)

I didn't know that. Thanks Viper.  :D

I remember two years ago when I went home, I think Channel 5 was showing old episodes of Champoy. I had trouble sleeping one night and decided to see what's on late night TV. Needless to say, I almost cried that night reminiscing the good old days. Wait, I think I have tear drop coming right now.  :-[

Subas Herrero is my father-in-law, so naturally I am happy to hear Champoy remembered so fondly. My Dad has many episode masters (though not all of them unfortunately) on U-Matic tape, and it has long been my dream to do something with them. First, a couple of years ago, I wanted to put up a Champoy web site, but we never got moving on that. Currently I would like to burn the tapes to DVD. Maybe when I finally get my G4 with the SuperDrive...

Will do Phoebus, but since RPN-9 still holds the copyright to the show and apparently sometimes still tries to exploit the show through reruns (all without paying royalties to ---or even asking permission of --the show's creators and talents, principally my Dad and Tito Noel Trinidad), any DVD copies I make will be strictly "for personal use only, reproduction prohibited." If you get my drift. ;)

Yup gonz, sayang. I was a big Champoy fan myself. Gary Lising was a major influence and shaped my sense of humor to my wife's everlasting regret! :)

Hopefully the local stations will wake up one day and realize that they stand to gain more by looking at cable syndication and home video formats like DVD. Plus, and more importantly, they can promise the creators decent royalty streams from these alternative distribution schemes.

Hmmm...

I actually enjoyed the first three years of Murphy Brown. So I guess that would be cool on DVD. I love Candice Bergen ever since I first saw her in Carnal Knowledge (I think) with Jack Nicholson and Art Garfunkel. I think that was her first movie straight from the modelling world.

Hi gets! If you like Twilight Zone then you might be interested to hear that there's a six-disc 40th anniversary gift set now available.  It contains 19 episodes from the original Twilight Zone.  Amazon is selling it for $59.49:

Twili
ght Zone 40th anniversary gift set (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004STW5/ref=ase_pinoydvd-20)

Be warned though, I've read that rather than choosing 19 of the best episodes, the gift set takes the lazy way out and just bundles together the first five volumes of the current TZ DVD releases (which is currently up to volume 42, with vol. 43 to ship on June 12).

Also, you'll be pleased to note that each Twilight Zone DVD volume contains 3-4 episodes per disc rather than just individual episodes.

Viper, Yeh, I remember SST (Sunday Suspense Theater). This was the show that we were always waiting for during Sundays. I still remember their theme (you know, after the show's over).

Bet you still remember The Gemini Man, Donny and Marie, SWAT, Wonder Woman, The Man from Atlantis.....?

Wonder Woman - you mean Lynda Carter and Lyle Waggoner?  She of the bullet-deflecting wrist bands and he of the Air Force uniform and glinting smile?

S.W.A.T. - where Robert Urich got his "big" break?  Starring Steve Forrest as the Lieutenant?

The Man from Atlantis - starring a pre-Dallas Patrick Duffy, featuring that undulating swimming style that all the kids our age tried to imitate in swimming pools across the country?

Nope.  I don't remember any of that stuff at all.  I was too young.  ;)

Other stuff I don't remember:

No, ikinuwento lang ng kuya ko ;D

In fact, our TV then was already in stereo (dalawa spkrs), may apat na paa, wood finished ang body, may cover pa yung pinaka-screen (w/lock).

I also had a remote control then, my younger sister: "Ilipat mo nga sa Sesame Street."

Then the channel knobs would go "Tsug-Tsug-Tsug!"

"O, huwag mong ilipat pabalik, masisira ang TV!!"

See? now,can you guess my age bracket?:D

2.  The Superfriends
3.  DC Superheroes cartoon shows of the 1960's.
4.  Superman The Animated Series (1990's)

7.  Isis (Joanna Cameron was hot in the 70's)
8.  Plastic Man (the animated series)

Another favourite of mine is the E! viper, you'll be happy to learn that I saw Volumes 1 and 2 of Space: 1999 at Electronics Depot today.  Those two sets of three DVDs each cover the first 12 episodes of the first season, at two episodes per disc.  Each set costs P1995, which works out to P665 per disc.  That price compares favorably to Amazon's price of equiv. P1799 per set, excluding shipping.

Reading the above, it sounds like such a good deal I'm wondering why the heck I'm posting this info here instead of buying those two sets for myself. :-/

How about the following:

1. The Professionals - UK series from the early 80s (I think) that was originally shown on Channel 7. Favorite episode: "Doubles", where Doyle and Bodie trade-in their Browning autos for .44 magnums to stop a pair of assasins. Would you believe this series could not be shown in the US as it was considered extremely violent?

2. Hawaii 5-O - If only for the classic line, "Book 'em, Dan-O." Release this on DVD rather than develop a movie version ala Mission: Impossible.

3. The World at War - BBC documentary series with Lawrence Olivier as narrator.

and

4. The Benny Hill Show - Uncut of course! ;D

How about The Equalizer? yeah! Edward Woodward, he'll make them pay!! And that theme by Police drummer, Stewart Copeland.

Space 1999-was a favorite of my older brother, I remember, we used to have copies of TV Times, and some of the TV show's addresses where there (remember, remeber?), my brother wrote to Space 1999, and poor him......they never replied... :-[

We used to draw those space ships then..."korteng-tabako" yung harapan, di ba?  ???

11. Eat Bulaga - all episodes including all their female co-hosts like Chiqui Hollman & Debra Liz, pati mga Lenten specials - grabe ilan kayang DVD iyon?
13. Student Canteen - hanggang last episode with Francis M. crying. Mas konti ito kaysa Eat Bulaga.
14. 3 o'clock habit - all episodes... "in a few minutes from now..." - ito isang DVD lang.

Joke lang guys lalo na sa mga last ones.  Naging nostalgic lang ako.

Whew! Buti na lang joke lang. I mean, can you imagine someone buying the episodes of Eat Bulaga or GoBingo on DVD?
:D
They should be more like "Episodes That Should be Re-aired on TV" so that those of us looking for nostalgia will be able to see them again and have fun recalling our "younger" days.

There is a Boxed set of The Best of Friends in Region1, while the whole series of Friends is being released in Region2.  I think they are up to Year 6 currently.

hehehehe.
heres a link to most of the tv series (http://www.epguides.com)

ferris bueller had only 13 eps. but i enjoyed it when it was still on ch. 9 way back

the new twilight zone i want to see because i was too young to watch it then, not that i was forbiden by my parents but bec. it came at 10:30 on ch.2 and i was sleepy then, so everytime i watch it i was asleep after 10 min. (i was 7, i think)

transformers= whole series? yes! why not? it's less than 160 eps. kaya yan! like ranma 1/2 160+ pa

SNL= i would love to have the whole series but i'll be in a straight jacket by then. and not to mention be in the gutter, with my dvd and portable dvd player (after i sold my house, dog, clothes on me back,)

btw: i HATE you guys! its 2:49 and in still on this list talking about dvd's and looking for a geat deal on them. you guys have turned me into a DVD NUT!!! hehehehehe  ;D ;D ;D :P

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Jennifer Aniston was in Ferris Bueller tv series.

HATE is such a strong word. And some of the people logged on around this time are not in Manila. So, we're not actually losing sleep here.  ::) We're just not doing our jobs here at the office.  ;D

Wouldn't it be great to have the repbulic serials on DVD. There's the original BATMAN republic serial where they fight off nazi spies! Then There's the original KIRK ALYNN SUPERMAN against the Molemen I think! Then There's the GREEN ARCHER! Not the DC COMICS CHARACTER but an entirely different strain!KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER, saw this when I was a kid and it was way ahead of it's time! The IN SERACH OF ANCIENT MYSTERIES BY LEONARDO NIMOY! Comprehensive and fully entertaining It deals with the mysteries of AMELIA ERTHART( Right spelling? )to the LOCHNESS MONSTERand the BERMUDA TRIANGLE!And that classic docu/mockumentary, APPOINTMENT WITH DESTINY!

3. The World at War - BBC documentary series with Lawrence Olivier as narrator.

and

4. The Benny Hill Show - Uncut of course! ;D

World at War has been announced for a Nov 06 (R1) release. Is this the same series you guys want?

Potpot - if you want the complete Friends  series, by season, it's available in R2 and R4. R4 is cheaper. :)

charbit - I haven't seen any announcements or even rumors regarding a Charmed or  Felicity dvd release (yet).

Nov 13 is the release date for The X-Files Season 4 and The Sopranos Season 2. Yehey!

Without a doubt...one of if not the best ever cop shows, 21 Jump Street.  Classic.  Early flashes of brilliance from Johnny Depp.

I'm surprised more people (save Wedding Singer), didn't mention this show.  Probably one of my all time favourite TV shows.

*side note: my older brother was an extra in a few episodes. (I used to live in Vancouver, where the series was shot).

Very nice choice ekime ... This was a very good show .. and introduced me to sweet-innocent looking Rob Morrow (Dr. Fleishman, was that the right spelling?) ... before I appreciated him in Robert Redford's Quiz Show.

Another very good tv series ... thirtysomething. I think this was created by the same team who made My So Called Life (another great show) and the current family drama series Once And Again (again, another great show). I am watching re-runs of thirtysomething in Bravo.

I had a party last week and a couple of friends brought some VCD(karaoke). The first one they played was "As Sure As I'm Standing Here" ... It's been years since I last heard that song. And as my friend was singing it, I vividly remember the very first Lovingly Yours, Helen episode with Vivian Foz and Ariosto Reyes. I brought up the subject after my friend sang, and everybody shared their experience with that episode ... and all the other outstanding episodes (like the Ricky Davao/Jackie Lou Blanco one, where they were the only characters seen). One consensus though, all my friends (including me) cried over that episode.  :'(

SO yeah, I wanted to see select episodes of Lovingly Yours, Helen ... and maybe cry all over again.  ;)

i'd like to see the mini series Shogun and Rich Man, Poor Man Books 1 and 2 on DVD. also the one with Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward, the title escapes me for the moment.

I started collecting Friends on VCD when Astrovision put it on sale for P150.00 per.  Now I have the complete collection from Season 1 to Season 7(12 episodes).  I decided to collect it at VCD since it is easier to share this with, of course, friends.

Jokes lang vojdiaz. Gloomy kasi ang weather so I had to do something crazy para hindi affected ang mood ko ng panahon eh.

Welcome to PinoyDVD.

Actually, I almost started collecting Friends VCD before nang nagse-sale ang Astro ng mga VCDs niya - this was those P100 off VCDs promo pa nila before.  But instead of Friends eh puro Disney ang nabili ko which I did not watch naman and eventually just gave them as presents.

So what I did was just rent Friends na lang.

Yun lang.

Ang alam ko dati mayroon sa Pioneer Service Center sa 3rd floor ng Virra Mall. But they only do it for Pioneer brands ata eh.  You may wanna check it out na rin.

Why not post a thread sa Home Theater, etc. or sa VCD to ask the members for advise.

You may also want to included other US TV series na nasa VCD or DVD para hindi naman super magsawa ang mga customers mo.

Malay mo at pwede na rin i-convert to DVD player ang multi-disc mo eventually and you can then invest in DVD TV series.

How about Futurama? :)

It will be available in R2 UK next year. It's up for preorder at play247 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=front&r=home) (Mar 28,2002 release?) but they only ship mostly to European countries. I'll try to add a pic of the boxset later. According to davisdvd though:

"Fox has announced Matt Groening's Futurama for release on January 28th. The 3-disc set, retailing £39.99, will feature all 13 episodes from the first season in 4x3, DD 2.0 audio and with English, French, Italian and Dutch subtitles. Extras will include: audio commentaries on all 13 episodes, animatics, deleted scenes, scripts and storyboards, trailers, a featurette and a still gallery of concept art."

Also from davisdvd:

I received this email from reader Erik. I thought it'd be cool to pass it on:

"I just wanted to confirm that [Futurama DVDs] are indeed in the works, most likely for an early 2002 release. At the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2001, Matt Groening confirmed to the entire audience that he, David X. Cohen and a few others involved with the show have already recorded commentary for every episode as they did for Simpsons. They plan on doing commentary for all episodes for now, but the entire first season commentary has been recorded; and he added that they have a lot more to say and are a lot more enthused about Futurama than 12-year-old Simpsons episodes."

It seems though that the R1 release will be delayed due to syndication rights. I hope I'm wrong.  ???

I don't know about what TV series SHOULD be on DVD. What do I know? This is is a list of TV series that I would personally like to be on DVD. I already mentioned limited series like Shogun and Highlander TV Series so I would also like to add:

Sapphire and Steel - YES, YES, YES!
Three's Company
V
Roots
Centennial
Man from Atlantis - YES!
Batman (with Adam West)
A-Team
Mission Impossible (with Martin Landau) - YES!
Equalizer - YES!
Mr. Belvedere (yes really!)
Voltes V and Daimos
I Love Lucy (meron na ba?)

For the meantime, masaya na rin ako sa aking Lonesome Dove  ;D

Komikero,

Looks like we share a lot of all-time fave shows!

I'd give an arm and a leg for Sapphire and Steel. That's probably my all-time fave after Star Trek. Pity it was short-lived. And it's even tougher to find VHSes - most of them are in England and are in PAL format!

Aside from cult classics, two cult classics that I really like:

Beauty and the Beast - Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman whose half-human, half-beast Vincent, IMO, gives us the most moving picture of the Other in primetime TVm next to Spock

Forever Knight - Nick Knight, former knight of the crusades, was battling crime while wrestling with his vampirism to regain his humanity, long before Angel did it. The tone of the show is definitely darker and more adult. And Nigel Bennett's Lucien Lacroix raises the bar on what being a master vampire means: cool, calm, classy, very aristocratic and cultured, but deadly, if he cares to be.

First, a couple of years ago, I wanted to put up a Champoy web site, but we never got moving on that. Currently I would like to burn the tapes to DVD. Maybe when I finally get my G4 with the SuperDrive...

Gonz,

baka pwede namang makahingi ng authograph. I really loved their skit called "WALANG SISIHAN"

Not my favorite but I've been catching the last half of Dark Angel lately while waiting for Charmed. Jessica Alba grows on you, I guess.  ;) I've seen dvd boxsets available, at where else but in Japan - at $100 a pop, ouch! (singles also available)

It is a fun show but I also think it is a little overrated and sometimes pretentious. If it wasn't from the makers of American Beauty, I don't think it will get picked up by HBO at all. But yes, I am looking forward to the second season .. afterall, Peter Krause is one of the guys I really like.

I would like to see the ff on DVD.

Practice
CSI - just saw the final episode on AXN last Teusday
Masquerade - i don't know if you guys know this series.
It's basically a special force but which recruits everyday people for a mission like your plumber or electrician because of their special skills. I saw most of the episode on Beta years ago.

Profit!

At only 9 episodes, perfect siya for a box set. When they showed this series on Channel 9 a few years ago, it had me riveted. Sayang na-cancel sa U.S. kasi amoral daw (as if naman may morals yung karamihan nung ibang shows). This was the show that makes the X-Files look derivative (same pa music composer nila, si Mark Snow). It's like what would have been produced if Lynch's Mullholland Drive had actually become a TV series. If you wanna take a look at it, I think a VHS copy of the pilot is still kicking around local video shops.

And I said I'm looking forward to the second season of Six Feet Under. It's not a bad show. It is fun to watch .. but I wouldn't miss it if they cancel it. And I don't think it deserved the Golden Globe Award it got for best drama series beating 24. Rachel Griffith is good in it though.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before... or if anyone here remembers the show... Tour of Duty.  It was a great series on the Vietnam War... it was aired during 1987 to 1990. It also had that great intro song (which I can't remember the title), but it was also the ending credits song of the movie "Full Metal Jacket".   :)

I think this one was cancelled because of low ratings. Kahit na "amoral" ang show basta mataas and rating, ayos lang. I remember some advertisers for "NYPD Blues"pulled out their ads because of nude scenes but the show was getting high ratings so its still around.

Good call buddy, that was a good show.  I believe the intro music was the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black," a nihilistic song that was popular among grunts in-country during the late-60s.

PAINT IT BLACK
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

I see a line of cars and they're all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens ev'ry day

I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facin' up when your whole world is black

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you

If I look hard enough into the settin' sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

Hmm, hmm, hmm,...

I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!

Kaunting clarification lang...when talking about nude scenes in shows like NYPD Blue, I think the adjective you're searching for is "immoral," i.e., "violating principles of right and wrong."

"Amoral" on the other hand means "neither moral nor immoral; lacking moral sensibility; not caring about right and wrong."

Profit was an amoral show because the characters plotted, schemed and acted out of greed, not caring whether their actions were right or wrong.

That's our word for the day.  :)

Thanks for the clarification Gonz. Maybe "NYPD Blue" was not a good example of amoral show. My point is a TV show's rating is the determining factor whether a show survives past the first season or not. Whether amoral or immoral, I still say Profit was cancelled because not enough people were watching that show. And that's always a concern each new TV season. You start liking a new show and if not enough people are watching it won't be back the following season. Case in point,Undeclared on Fox TV Tuesday nights. This show is neither amoral or immoral but I don't think it will be back next season because of its low ratings.

Actually, I have already forgotten about NYPD Blue until I've read this thread...  I'll admit that there were a lot of blood and skin(!) shown on that program, but I believe that what made the show popular wasn't the nudity, but the writing and acting on the show, particularly the first season.  I personally would give an A+ to that show's first season and would definitely grab a copy if that season came out on DVD...

...on a side note, local viewers never got to see those nude scenes...  they were chopped off by the censors before they got aired on RPN 9...  even the episodes aired on Star World were edited...  but there was this one episode where Sipowicz and David Caruso (forgot his character's name) were talking in the guy's locker room, and Caruso was butt naked, and this was shown in RPN 9...  although when this episode was shown as a rerun, the whole scene was cut...

Seaquest DSV (I don't remember how many seasons there were. Does anyone know if there were episodes after they landed on that water planet or was that the end of the series? I had such a crush on Kathy Evison ;D)

West Wing (I missed the first season!)

I just remembered another sitcom that for me was laugh out loud funny. I mean I like Friends and Seinfeld and such but they never had me laughing so hard and so long that my eyes were tearing and my temples were pounding. I'm talking about Doctor Doctor which starred Matt Frewer. Unfortunately I don't think it was ever widely appreciated so I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get my hands on a DVD of this. :( Anybody else here remember this show?

Used to go over to the neighbors to watch this.
they had the only tv in town.  I stayed there too long they often turned the house main switch off and tell me there is a power failure to make me go home.

also Dick Tracy

three yrs later I joined the dick tracy club. Had a badge too.  By that time we had our own (steel cabinet) tv (used.... from clark i was told).

I would like to have all the original disney series that i viewed in black and white on dvd and in color of course.

Twenty years ago, around the early 80's, back in Manila, I used to watch Iskul-Bukol (Tito, Vic & Joey) and For the Boys (Ariel Ureta I think was the host). It'll be nice kung available sa DVD, although I highly doubt it... :(

I remember that there was a movie based on Iskul-Bukol tv show with the same title. Alam nyo ba if this is available in VHS  ???

UFO IS FINALLY OUT ON DVD!!!

As an elementary grader back then, I slept through it because of all the talkies---though i think i'd appreciate it now. But what I really remember with fondness are shots of those gleaming UFOs, that fantastic theme song (which reminds me of the Mission: Impossible theme) and Commander Stryker's cool blond bangs!

It looks like one of my favorite TV series will be on DVD next year.

News from dvdreview.com:
Quote
Oh, Boy. Quantum Leap on DVD.

The floodgates are open. Releasing television series on home video was completely unpractical six years ago, but the convenience of DVD has showed studios that fans will buy up television programming on DVD. As many television shows have been announced over the last month or so, it appears that a great deal more are coming. Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Warner Brothers Home Video and Paramount Home Entertainment have all recently announced commitment to television on DVD. One of the first new series coming from this announcement is the science fiction drama Quantum Leap due in 2003.
Before Scott Bacula traveled through space as the captain of the Enterprise, he traveled through time as Sam Beckett, a scientist who discovered the ability to leap through time, from person to person, within his own lifetime. Along with his friend Al, who appeared to Sam as a hologram from the future, Sam used the ability not for personal gain, but to help fix other’s lives which had gone astray.
Although the pilot of this series is out there on a discontinued DVD, it looks like the rest of the series will follow. Although no information is available on prices, specs, or features. Information on the show and likely many other popular series will be coming down the pipeline soon.

Oh, lord, you jsut reminded me of one of the most embarrassing phases of my adolescence. At the age of 11, I had a huge crush on the show's star, Johnny Whittaker. I thought the monsters were hokey and the plots silly, but I really dug his curly hair and apple-pie look. Now that I remember it...groan.

Last I heard of him, Whittaker became a Mormon, quit the acting bug, and became Marie Osmond's bodyguard for a time.

<De-lurking mode>

While browsing through other dvd sites, I found out that

1. A-Team is already on DVD, Region 1, exclusive at Columbia House TV  Greats something. You buy DVDs from them and then they give you 2 to 4 episodes of A-Team for purchase of _____ or something like that. Basta pa-tingi tingi. You have to subscribe to them and buy their DVDs often. Same with Airwolf, The Cosby Show, Perry Mason - I love this show!  and Xena...All in Region 1.  Columbia House have really inexpensive DVDs so this must be worth a try.

2. ER is also on DVD! but it is in R2 Japan NTSC, with the Japanese text menu, it's Season 1 to 6 pa. Samantalang wala pang Season 1 in R1  ::)

3.  Storyteller is also on DVD in Holland R2

4. 21 Jumpstreet again R2 Japan, up to Season 4

5. Beverly Hills 90210 in Japan pa rin

What's with Japan? ???

6. Frasier, Miami Vice, Moonlighting, The Incredible Hulk, Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman[/b] in UK R2, check Amazon UK I think it's all there.

7.  They have Columbo[/b] in R2 Japan too!!!

The good news is......in 2003 - many TV shows will be coming to DVDs in Region 1.  Yey! Yey! and double double yey! ;D

My very first post in PinoyDVD almost two years ago!
Marami na rin nasa DVD that I  own particularly Sapphire & Steel, V, Space 1999, UFO.

Now I am still looking for Connections and SST on DVD.

Also, I would like to see the old series "Living Tomorrow". It was a sunday morning filler before the movie trailers but I remembered this british tech series to have a very important impact for me as it piqued my interest in science and inventions.

I was crazy about that show too! Matt Frewer was hilarious. I wouldn't think twice about parting with my hard-earned money if that show ever comes out on video.  ;)

This was a long thread to go through but it sure was fun reading other people list shows that I got so much entertainment from too, like Misfits of Science, Perfect Strangers, Greatest American Hero [You know the steps that need to be followed before the suit can fly? It's standard procedure when I have my superhero flying dreams haha], The Equalizer [with the ad in the paper that goes "need help? the odds against you? call 555..."..something like that :D], The Golden Girls, Newhart, Newsradio, Champoy!! [Mr. Boom-boom...]...& a whole bunch of other shows.

I'm not too sure about getting all of them on DVD though...budgetary constraints and all :). However, I'd definitely get Seinfeld when/if it comes out. Also, here's a list of kiddie shows that I'd want my future kids to have the chance of enjoying as much as I did:

does WONDER YEARS have a dvd.?

They've had two DVD releases. The first was a really lousy The Best of the Wonder Years. Lousy because the video only ran 71 minutes, and was composed of the 2-part series finale and a 20+ minute series of highlights from all previous seasons. That's all. Not even the pilot episode.

The second was a compilation of the all the Christmas episodes of the show, called (quite appropriately) The Christmas Wonder Years.

Neither releases were remastered in any way, and both are already out of print. I'm not aware of current plans to release full seasons of the show on DVD, but I haven't been following this title too closely.

Sorry for the 9 month delay in answering.  ;D

Starsky and Hutch Season One will be out on March 2. L.A. Law: The Movie is actually the 2002 reunion tv movie. The entire original cast returned except Jimmy Smits, who was shooting his scenes for the Star Wars films, and Blair Underwood, who just refused.

I'd like to see

SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN

It's unlikely that this will see an R1 release in the near future, due to a licensing rights issue between Universal and Dimension. There's a long article about it here: http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/Dvd-Guy/Arent-Original-Bionic/800023655

On the bright side, if you can order online, the R2 version of Seasons 1 and 2 are now over 50% off at Amazon-UK.

Personally, I bought the initial episodic R2 releases, and after watching a few episodes, I felt the show didn't stand the test of time. It seemed very dated and hokey. So I never went after the season sets when they were released.

Thank you for the quick response and valuable info.  I saw this series when I was, what, 10 to 12 years old and I loved it then.  Outdated na pala?  Maybe you're right.  Unlike say, Wonder Woman?  I have Wonder Woman Season 1 and I still find it entertaining and my kids love it.

Oh well, I'm better off looking for the John En Marsha series!  Thanks.

Hehe - we're in the same age range. This was my favorite show when I was in Grade 1. My childhood best friend and I still laugh at our "bionic" fights when we were kids. May sound effects pa yata.  ;D

That's why I was disappointed when I watched the DVDs I had. It was with high anticipation, then ultimately was a huge let-down.

That's because there's a huge difference between seeing Steve Austin punch Bigfoot in slow motion and seeing Lynda Carter run bounce around in that costume.  ;D

Agree! Doesn't matter if she runs, bounces, spins or whips that "honesty" lasso of hers, Lynda Carter will always be a wonder to behold.  And she still looks gorgeous in Sky High despite her age.

Oh well, I'm better off looking for the John En Marsha series!  Thanks.

I was incredibly surprised to see that "John En Marsha," the series, is already out on DVD!  :o

Five volumes so far, Php 200 each. No indication on the packaging how many episodes per disc.

This was an even bigger shock than Oro Plata Mata coming out on DVD.  ;D

Sliders and Outer Limits are available in Amazon. For me, I'm patiently waiting for the family comedy series Still Standing. At least now Season 1 will be available soon.

Its 2008 and still coming soon  :'(

+1 on Voltes and the other early robot cartoons ('anime' wasn't even coined yet in the Phils).  :D
You see Voltes VCDs on the shelf at around P2k pero siempre mas magandang DVD na rin ang bilhin if you'll collect...  ;)

my apologies. Upon checking dvdasian.com, nawala ang list ng kamen rider black (don't know why)

Ang natira lang dun ay yung mga contemporary Kamen Rider Series with Kamen Rider Den-o as the latest in the release.

Yes, very original storyline. I have the pilot episode that I got from an issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY! It's actually a promotional dvd for the upcoming TV show then.
