Title: speakers appropriate for vocals
Post by: maximusIII on Jan 18, 2007 at 10:09 AM
hi. i like to listen to oldies music where the vocals of the singer predominates and with minimal accompaniments. think johnny mathis, nat king cole and tony bennet, shirley bassey, norah jones, sarah machlaclagn.  when i listen i want to close my eyes and imagine they are in front of me.

question. what speakers could you recommend for the abovementioned listening experience?

tia

Sir,

Ribbon speakers do particularly good in vocals mainly because of their ability to produce silky smooth mids and highs.  Please consider Aurum Cantus speakers.  Pretty good value for money loudspeakers.  Check out this link from Australia regarding ribbon speakers
http://finallink.com.au/aurum.htm

Feel free to call or visit us anytime.  Contacts and addy in our website www.audioamplified.com

thanks for the quick reply.

my current avr is a denon 1907. are they a good match with the aurums. can you please pm me about the net prices of your book shelf aurum cantuses. ( i just find the book shelf sexier to look than the floor standers and i currently have a velo to produce the bass anyway.)

please pm me the price from the entry level to the mid price. (friendly price ha)

Vocals music?  Try the B&W 600 series 3 speakers.
They sound excellent with vocal, jazz and classical music.

i would suggest you give a listen to dynaudio audience 42 and 52. they are a bit costly but this is what you are really looking for...
be careful also coz these are 4ohm loads and your current amp might not be suitable. give it at least 150W of power power channel for best results.

Pangit Usher X-719 . pangit yan..kasi wala ka nang mabili..out of stock na !!!  hehehe

Others that I had in the past that would be nice

AE EVO 1   - around 12K  for a new pair
Celestion SL 6si  These are old legendary loudspeakers but are very smooth..expect to pay 10K for a used pair
Celestion Sl12si - the big brother of the Sl6si ... with better bass as it has 2 6.5 inch woofers, its a large long bookshelf..saw one at Sensible Audio in Makati Cinema Square..  around 15K for a used pair

Both of these are a "dark" sounding, very relaxing as the highs are silky smoooooth, they present the singers a couple of feet behind the loudspeakers.

and yung pangit na Usher X-719, pag nahahanap mo ayun maganda na siya... nice sounding and nice looking pa

Try to find Usher X-719..
