Hello,
I'm in the market for an LCD projector for HT. Mainly for dvd's and vhs format.
all are SVGA with 1000 lumens only. more than this, it is above my budget. not more
than P120,000 sana.
Here are my choices:
1) inFocus lp 280 P97,000
2) Canon lv-s1 P95,000
3) Sanyo plc-sw20 P120,000
4) NEC lt-150??? (i don't know how much)
5) or other brands????
I will project it in a 120 inch draper screen. (I tried the sanyo already and it is ok naman
in my taste. No visible lines in my viewing area.)
Ano ba ang ok?
Thanks a lot....
-
Ay, sagutin ko na tanong ko.
1) the infocus lp 280 pala is not good for HT. for conference presentation lang ito ok.
No composite/component video in. bad for dvd's
2) The panansonic pt ae100 naman only has 700 lumens so malabo ito. plus, di maganda
ang reviews nito abroad.
3) NEC lt150? 700 lumens lang yata ito. i might be mistaken
4) THe sanyo sw20 is ok all around but quite expensive at P120,000 but with a 5 yrs warranty
5) the canon lv s1 seems to be the best with all the goodies such as a component video input, 16:9,
very sharp focusing lens plus cheap price of P95,000.
the bulb cost P30,000 though for 2000 hours only.
Ano kaya? baka there is something better from the ones on my list.
Thanks
-
Finally bought a projector:
A sanyo plc sw20. It is the best compared to any lcd around. The worst has to be
the panasonic ae100 with a very obvious screen door effect. Sanyo has a very fine
screendoor not visible even when you are 1 meter away. Actually, you will notice that
it only has a horizontal line but no vertical lines that can be seen unlike the AE100, infocus 280
or the canon and nec lt100. So what if the ae100 has 5000 hours, it only has 700 lumens and the picture
is really bad. You will waste your time and money with this projector
In the sanyo, The colors are perfect with the skintone, blacks and shadow controls set in auto.
I can even project it in a 200" inch white wall.
If you have P100,000 to spend, don't concentrate to much on AUDIO or Subwoofers, receivers etc.
they are all junk compared to the satisfaction you will get in purchasing a sanyo projector.
Try it yourself in electronics depo libis.
-
Madrigal, thanks for the info you gave . I too am looking at the sanyo. But my choice was the plc xw20. XGA projector
Microdata is selling this one at P145K w/ 2 yrs warranty and provides a service unit in case it needs repair.
Does electronic depot also sell the XW
-
Hello jambam:
I don't think Elect Depo sells the XW at the moment but I think they can order it. The supplier is
IMATECH. I guess there is only one supplier of Sanyo Projectors anywhere you buy it.
Haven't tried the xw xga of sanyo yet. It is over my budget anyway. I got the sw20 for P94,500.
the svga is not really that bad since the screen door effect is not too obvious.
The disadvantage of the lcd's from the 3 days I had it:
1) 2000 hours or less lamp life
2) You cannot turn it off or on like a tv.
3) needs a dark room
4) Dirt accumulates inside the lens easily.
5) Cable TV reception from VHS is Bad.
6) It runs very hot and needs a ventilated shelf
7) Pag binuksan mo na, don't turn it off and on again kasi masisira ang bulb.
8) Has a burning smell
-
Madrigal,
Thanks for sharing. BTW have you had the chance to look at DLPs? I am planning one but got sidetracked when a bought a Toshiba 53 RPTV last Jan
-
Audionote:
Yeah, tried the DLP's too but it was over my budget. Tried an Infocus DLP in
av driver shangrila for P250,000. There was a screendoor effect too but not too
obvious like a sanyo.
The dlp's is supposed to be superior with the inclusion of a faroudja technology line doubler?
but I think it looks the same as the Sanyo lcd's for only P94,500. You cannot tell the difference
if it was a blind test. With the P150,000 you can save, you can buy a Stewart grayhawk screen
plus a new speakers?
The CRT's of course is the best if it is in your budget.
-
Hi Madrigal, Did you buy any screen together w/ your sanyo. Any recommendations for the budget consious.
Also what is available and easy to setup.....
Thanks
-
Hi jambam:
As for the screen, I did not buy one and just tried to paint my wall off white to gray.
It is a huge wall that can project up to 200". The results were OK.
Now, I am about to get a screen since sayang ang capabilities ng projector since
a real screen would improve on picture brightness and color.
The best cheaper screens would be the da-lite brand. It ranges from P5,000 to P15,000
depending on size. Check the yellow pages for availability and prices.
I ordered a 120" wall type manual for P14,+++ whick will arrive by october.
Draper brand is mid prized at P22,000 plus and the top of the line would be the Stewart brand which is
almost as expensive as the projector.
Don't purchase a screen at hifi stores since malaki ang mark-up doon. Get direct from the
dealer. Also, a DIY screen from shell canvas is I think "crap" Ang mahal ng projector tapos
Do it Yourself screen lang? Plus, you can only get a 50" size maximum yata.

For more details on projection screen, you can check this out projection screen (http://www.pinoydvd.com/yabbse/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=1458) or you can send a PM to neo (http://www.pinoydvd.com/yabbse/index.php?board=8;action=viewprofile;user=neo).

The Infocus DLP projector at AVDI is being sold for 169,000 until the end of the month. I've tried a couple of projectors you've tested also and DLP is really way over them in terms of performance. The extra cash is definitely worth it.
I've also been actually looking for a projector/screen combo that would range from 150-200k. Funny thing is, I realized that a top-notch turntables such as ClearAudio or Project would give me more joy than a projector.
After trying out these systems for quite a while I realized that their novelty would wear off after a while. So no offense, but spending 100k+ on audio equipment cannot be labeled as trash. It all depends on the satisfaction it gives the person, right? ;)
-
To Hamann:
Hello, sorry. Harsh nga ang reply ko re: spending on audio.
In my experience, Iv'e been spending thousands on Hifi, power amps, speakers
sources etc...... been doing so since I got the audio bug since the 80's. I can say na
exhausted na siguro ako.
With the advent of the DVD, what is a good Hi Fi audio on dvd with a puny TV.
been using a 48" rear projector since 1990 but you can get total movie experience
with a 120" screen and a quality LCD or DLP projector on a stewart screen.
Just had a party last night ang all my friends were at awe with the projector on a 120" screen
than the dts audio or the room shaking bass of my subs.
Who cares if our tube amps or vinyl produces live sounding audio. You are staring at a blank wall listening to music!! when you can listen to superior DTS concert dvds viewing it on a huge screen. Entertainment
value is tripled.
People actually watch DVDs rather than appreciate the sound of the disc. Audio is secondary.
This is my experience.

Hi madrigal,
I'm also looking for for a 120-150" Stewart or Da-lite manual wall mounted screen. Where did you order yours? Thanks :)
-
Yup! whatever makes you happy. Where'd you get the projector anyway? How does it compare to DLP?
-
Oh didn't see electronic depot. So how does it compare anyway?
-
I'm working in Beijing, but I'll be coming back to Phils for vacation this December. I'm planning to get a projector that is portable enough as hand-carry luggage to bring to Beijing. It's just for my apartment system, so expensive models >P100K aren't needed yet.
A friend who works in Japan can buy a Panasonic projector at around P60K, so that's also an option. But if you can suggest a locally available model with comparable performance-value less than P100K, the better. Pls tell me where I can buy it, and if they do home deliveries.
I will be hooked up to the component video output of a Sony DVP S9000ES switched to progressive scan.
If possible, let me know of the most affordable, locally available screen that you've come by, too.
Thanks a lot in advance for the help.
Regards,
ARNEL

To Hamann:
Hello, In my point of view, the sanyo lcd (they have a promo now in the newspapers)
is comparable to a DLP of infocus (P200,000?) sold in avdi. I am not a salesman of sanyo but i think
it is really great for its price of less than P100,000. For the money I can save, I can get
an extra P100,000 budget for audio or a pair of lazyboy chairs...
For a demo of the sanyo, go to elect. depo. But do not buy since it is more expensive.
To jlo2: For my da-lite screen, the prices are almost the same in all the av stores.
The problem is the availability of the screen. You can get a 120" from Island
Photo (try the yellow pages) 84x64 model B. Matte white spectra video.
If there is no stock, try makati cinema square. There is a 120" there. I just
forgot the name of the store.
-
Check the papers last saturday oct 13. there is a promo of a sanyo plc sw20 at
P99,000 with a free 70x70 screen.
The sanyo is the best there is for less than P100,000.
Forget the panasonic. The screendoor effect really sucks. the AE100 in particular.
-
So where did you buy your Sanyo for less than 100k?
-
Thanks madrigal. I hope you won't mind if I PM you regarding installation once I get the FP screen.
-
How about the lower-spec Sanyo PLC SW15? Is it any good?
Thanks.
-
Hey madrigal, sorry to burst your bubble, but I was browsing through the pages of the Sanyo and it stated that this product is also marketed as the Eiki LC-SM3 (Eiki is also owned by Sanyo).
Sonny Tuason of the Home Theater is selling the Eiki LC-SM3+, the upgraded version with 1600 ANSI LUMENS, and I think a 400:1 contrast ratio, for around P85,000.
This was the projector I tried out in his shop, and yes, it's very good indeed for its price.
-
Hamann,
Are there any other Eiki models available , also where is this shop....
Thanks
-
Yup he does have other models. Call Sonny at 8125235 tell him Ryan told you to call him :)
-
To Hamann and to people in the market for a projector:
Great to hear that. I did not know that Eiki brand is also a sanyo.
It is good that you liked its performance. Also, at 85,000, it is very cheap.
Post here what projector you will decide to purchase.
When I saw the sanyo, I immediately bought it in a few days after auditioning various brands.
Would have saved P10,000 if I have seen that Eiki a month ago
the sanyo at 1000 lumens is perfect for me. From what I researched on the
internet, a projector bulb with a 1600 lumens or above has a LOWER life span.
maybe 1200 hours or less
A panasonic ae100 for example at 700 lumens can last up to 5000 hours. Picture brightness
is not really noticable as long as the room is really dark.
I guess you know why people like higher lumens. (for corporate presentations
with uncontrolled lighting conditions.,) But for a dedicated DVD HT, a 1000 or 1200 lumens
is perfect.
-
madrigal,
another question is , did you get your screen and how do you handle 16:9 material,
what I plan is to connect it to an HTPC once I get a projector, I have been reading a lot in the AVSforum and they say you can get a better picture thru a PC.
-
Hello jambam:
Ordered a 120" dalite screen spectra video format. 84x64 inches. But as of now,
I am using a DIY screen on a fixed wooden frame with a 120" screen size.
It is a 4:3 aspect so if I want a widescreen then there will be black bars. I prefer this
4:3 since I can watch tv shows, vhs tapes etc. undistorted.
The sanyo can project a 16:9 or a 4:3 depending on its setting but you cannot
buy a screen with a widescreen here unless you order in avdi.
As for the PC. I am not knowledgable with this. But it guess it will work.
I just think a quality component connection to a dvd is unbeatable with the best clarity and
brightness.
-
what I plan is to connect it to an HTPC once I get a projector, I have been reading a lot in the AVSforum and they say you can get a better picture thru a PC.
this is correct since the vid card output displays at high resolution, if ur vid card can display 1024 x 768 resolution at 32bit color quality witout any problem, then i dont think a DVD player can match this, not even a progressive scan one (well i could also be wrong you know)
this will be my future setup if i can get hold of a good but very reasonable projector..only problem is the controls esp when ur accessing the special features section :-)
-
Madrigal,
Do you have the number for imatech , i would like to check if they will be importing the Sanyo plv-z1, w/c i think will be the projector for me.
thanks
-
I am currently demoing an Epson EMP-TW100 LCD projector. And boy, can this machine deliver stunning video with amazing color and clarity.
I want to measure it against the performance of other projectors such as the usual NECs, Sanyos and Sonys.
Anybody interested with a shootout? :)
-
Hi revskie.
I'm up to the challenge,........... Get that Epson and let's compare it with my projector and other projectors
like a panasonic, nec owned by other pinoydvd members......
Let's consider picture quality and Price. Mine cost less than P100,000. lets see if a P180,000-250,000
projector can beat my sanyo.
Txt me at 0919-594-1655
-
Hey, Madrigal!
Thanks, ha.
Let's set the shoot-out this weekend kung pwede. Saturday, November 9. Do you know of a place where we can do it?
OK sana kung dalawang screens side by side then we feed two projectors a video signal from the same source and we let them do their thing and see.
Anybody else here interested? Ok sana kung may DLP projector na makasama like the NEC LT150 or the Infocus ScreenPlay 110.

I am still deciding what to buy at this point. Can I join you guys so that I know what to expect .....
-
Hello revski:
I think that double screen demo is great but I think it would be difficult to find
a place that can hold 2 projector screens.
My place is ok for a demo. It is a dedicated HT room with a 110" screen. Located near
SM city north edsa Q.C. I'm free 7:00p.m. onwards...
BTW: If you haven't bought the Epson yet then how can you bring it at my place?
-
Madrigal,
The schedule is OK.
I just paid a downpayment at this point. They gave me a service/demo unit. I can retract my order anytime if I am not happy with it.
Jambam,
You sure are welcome to join. But better ask Madrigal first as we are going to use his place for the shoot out.
See you guys.

To anyone out there with an lcd or dpl projector and is curious as to how it compares to other
brands and technology, try to go to my place.
To Jambam:
Sure, go here.
Revski:
What is the specs of the epson? an xga? what lumens? how much?
Call or txt me at 0919-594-1655. Nov. 9 is ok with me.

thanks guys for accomodating me, madrigal i will text you for the address if i can make it.

Madrigal,
Here is the review of the Epson TW100 at Projector Central. All details are there.

I recently had the opportunity to audition several brands of multi-media projectors for my company given a budget of 300T.
I really liked the In-Focus models especially one that was as small as a landline telephone. Among the brands I tested (Sanyo, Optoma, Panasonic, Epson etc), the In-Focus models appeared to be best in design and build quality. But I eventually opted for the Optoma EZPro 755, a 2000 lumens, XGA DLP due to its value for the money, features, and aftersales support. We got it for 245T.
The thing is I'd buy a big top-end TV or even a plasma one before I'd buy any of these projectors for HT use. Why? The projector bulb. These 2000 lumens bulbs will last you around 2000 hours, the last half of which hindi na ganoon ka bright (based on my experience with a bulky old In-Focus model). Easy enough to replace the bulb, but for 30T a pop, huwag na lang.
Sure you can buy the cheaper 1200 or 1600 lumens models but hindi masyadong sharp ang picture and it gets worse the more you use it.
-
Stradale,
I respect your opinion on the matter.
Let me just point out that there are a newer bunch of digital LCD and DLP projectors SPECIFICALLY designed for HT use.
They are far different from the usual "corporate presentation-use" projectors in that they are less bright and are designed for controlled lighting applications of HT. The bulbs evetually last longer because of this variation in their design. Resolution, color accuracy and contrast ratios have improved leaps and bounds.
IMO, nothing beats front projection in getting that ültimate home thater feeling"! They are the utlimate space savers (as opposed to big screen TVs) and gives you more value for money (as oppose to plasmas), plus, you measure your video screen in FEET!
Cheers!

I agree w/ revskie, I currently own a 50"Toshiba RPTV w/c has served me for 3 years , but is defective at the moment, it's shear size makes it difficult to get service.
A projector will be cheaper and project a bigger picture , and eat up a lot less space . I had to sacrifice my audio setup when I got the toshiba, due to lack of space in the bedroom.
Once I get to chose my projector I will bring back my audio setup.....
-
looks like i will miss your shootout , thanks for the hospitality ,
I hope you will share your agreed findings in the forum
Cheers !!!!

Something that can be bought for less than $500 or P25K. DaLite electric types, the cheapest ones without remote, already cost at least this much, so I wonder....
Thanks heaps.

welcome to the forum Arnel Enero! :)

I bought myself the sanyo sw-20a, and watched "the world is not enough". The family just loves it and they really liked it better than the toshiba 50" RPTV...
Thanks everyone for the tip
-
Hi Jambam:
Glad to know you got a Sanyo Projector. Ganda ng picture quality di ba? compared with the other brands.
I am an advocate of lcd projectors now. All dvd, HT audio lovers should buy a Projector, if not, sayang lang ang dvd collection and HT setup nyo.
I also own a RPTV but only a 46" sony. Parang sobrang liit nito and every TV is see as compared with the 120" lcd projector.
-
Hi Madrigal,
Thanks, I actually looked at the other sanyo clones too , just trying to get a better deal. I didn't have much chance to compare w/ other brands. Anyway I ended up w/ a dealer w/c gave me a 2 yr warranty and service unit clause in case they need time to repair it.
I would suggest that for people that can afford an extra P35K to get the xga version , so that there is less screendoor effect for bigger sizes of screen.
-
Hi jambam:
the xga is great. Too bad, i just got the svga. Anyway for that 35T spent more for it, i'll just buy a
spare bulb. I only used about 12 dvd views total or about 24 hours and now i see a little deterioration in
film brightness. It is a little dim now as compared when it was new 3 months ago.
Now, i seldom use it since i am scared it may become dimmer from being overused. Maybe psychological lang ito
in me. Ever since I bought it, people say that the bulb is very expensive. Now i am paranoid of this bulb being busted.
-
Madrigal,
I think it is just you getting used to it , but the brigthness is the same, it won't get that bad w/ 35 hrs only. Also a spare bulb is only 20K.
Use it and enjoy , as that is what you paid for.....
-
have a couple of questions:
do RPTVs have bulbs too? if they do, what are their expected lifespans? how do they compare with LCD projector bulbs in terms of durability?
are bulbs "upgradeable"? let's say i have an old EIKI xga projector which can project at 700 lumens. can i just buy a new bulb model that will allow me to project at 1000 lumens or more?
thanks guys!
-
Tuff, Generally RPTV mostly have CRT's , so no bulb.
on the subject of upgrading bulbs, i don't think so. but you could try the service center for your Eiki , and check if the higher wattage bulb will fit. If you can have total light control that would actually be the most beneficial for you.... rgds

yup, our curtains still can't keep all the lights out. will blackout cloth do the job? i'm currently using this same cloth as my projector screen.
by the way, i agree with you guys: a projector provides a totally different HT experience. i really feel like i'm making most of my 5.1 (hopefully 6.1 soon!) setup.
i'll check it out with EIKI's distributors.
-
tuff, Blackout cloth should really help, if you ever get around to buying some can you advise where you got it
-
tuff, Blackout cloth should really help, if you ever get around to buying some can you advise where you got it
You can find them at most Shell Canvass branches. there's a branch in glorietta. if you're from pasig, they have a branch in MC Home Depot (which is where i got the cloth for my projector screen). in cubao, there's one near the kamias/kamuning corner EDSA branch. for those down south, i think there's one along the hi-way. if you're going up north, its to your right. i believe its at along the service road between the alabang ang sucat exits.
if you're using it for a screen, make sure that you avoid folding the cloth to prevent creases. i think mine is 5'' x 6'' and it cost me a little over P500.
Off-topic: btw, i think you're glad i decided against buying your ADCOM amps. now that your projector has provided you more space, your amps should be back in business soon.
-
tuff ok i know shell canvas , do they call it as black out cloth or something else.
If you are looking for a new projector I would suggest waiting for the new infocus X1 when it becomes locally available . It seems like a new value leader...
P.S. I bought a Yamaha RVX-1200 and have found it sufficient to drive my thiels so the adcoms are still in the closet
-
tuff ok i know shell canvas , do they call it as black out cloth or something else.
yup! that's how they call it:black out cloth. it's supposed to serve as lining for curtains.

Sanyo, through MicroData (a local Sanyo distributor), recently released in the country the Sanyo PLV-Z1. I think its going for P93K.
It got rave reviews at ProjectorCentral.com and was specifically designed for Home Theater use.
You might want to check that out.

What are your thoughts on the InFocus ScreenPlay Series? Is it any good or are there better projectors?
Any idea on how much a projector bulb costs and it's lifespan?

I've seen demos of both the ScreenPlay 110 and the 7200. Was not impressed with the 110. For one thing its resolution is "only" 848x480 or 800x600. The DVD I watched looked skewed and the unit was noisy. Sayang, as its price is lower than a 57 in. RPTV's (at 100+k).
The 7200 was impressive. Resolution is 1280 x 720 so it can handle high-def signals. The HD tape and DVD (scaled to 720p) that I saw looked fabulous. There was some random flickering, maybe due to the specific unit I saw.
Choices at the same price would be the Sharp XV-Z9000U and Marantz VP12S2, like the InFocus they are all DLP. At a lower price, the Sony VPL-VW11HT, an LCD projector, would be worth looking into. Have only seen the InFocus, but the others have rave reviews.
At that price, the choice would be between a projector and a 50-in plasma. Which one would you guys pick?

Yung lamp? Any idea as to how long it'll last?

I've seen the Infocus, Sharp, Marantz and a couple of other DLP projectors (Runco and SIM Seleco). The worst was the Infocus and the best was the Sharp XV-Z9000U.
50-in plasma vs. front projector --> A projector can give you the "theater-like" experience due to the size limitation of plasmas. However, projectors are very sensitive to light. Your room has to be really dark to realize their full potential. If you have a dedicated HT and can control light, then go for a DLP.
-

Your price for the 7200 is lower than I remember. Lamp is rated at 2000 hours.
-
Thanks for the reviews, cyberaudionut, and welcome to PinoyDVD!
I will have a dedicated HT, and I hear that the newest DLP projectors can be enjoyed even with some light on. Of course, the cost is still the major issue. :)
What the projectors (and plasmas) offer is thin screen that doesn't get in the way of acoustics, like a big RPTV can, as I plan to use the system for music at least half of the time.
-
From a cost point of view it looks like plasmas come out tops vs. DLP based projectors. The lamp lifespan's too short at around 1 year (6hr/day) vs. 13 years (6hr/day)...
Then again you'd probably buy a new display after 8 years...

With the emergence of the X1 it looks like the price difference with a plasma TV would be a lot farther apart. I was about to buy the Sanyo/Eiki projector but then I also heard about the Infocus X1.
It looks like it has been receiving fantastic reviews, with the only bad comment about it is standard among DLP proj., which is seeing rainbows. Although not all owners have seen this in their units. It looks like some units are more affected than others.
Their local distributor here will be launching it around end of January. I'll be taking a look at it before I decide on my final purchase.

Thanks, DVD Addict. My brother, technogeek, sort of introduced me to this forum.
Not quite true about the newer DLPs and light...The smallest amount of light still messes up the picture. Like I said, I tried them all (in the past 6 months) before I bought one.
Are you building your HT from scratch or will you be using an existing room?

Where did you audition the PJs?
Auditioned some at home, some at the 2002 Home Entertainment show in NY, the rest at dealer showrooms in the NY/NJ area.
Am about to finish mine which was built from scratch and can offer various tips/techniques on design, construction, equipment, set-up and calibration if you're interested. Pics are under General->pictures of your HT set-up->page 6 (technogeek's sister).

Wow! That is one sweet room! Congrats!
I'm more audio-centric, but I'll take you up on your offer. I'll PM you (a lot of) questions soon if you don't mind.

I bought myself the sanyo sw-20a, and watched "the world is not enough". The family just loves it and they really liked it better than the toshiba 50" RPTV...
Magkano yung Sanyo SW 20 sa Pilipinas? Oks ba ito? 1,000 lumens nito at contrast ay 350:1 Sa Tokyo on-line ay worth Y160,000 at P0.45 bale almost P80K.. mabigat ba ito??
-
Any review for Epson EMP-505 and/or 715?
EMP505: 1,100 ANSI Lumens, 1.677 million pixels, contrast ratio 400:1, 800X600X3, SXGA, XGA, SVGA, VGA, 2.7 kgs.
How much is this unit in the Philippines? Equivalent model in Japan Epson ELP-505 has a catalogue price of Y498,000 but the lowest on-line Tokyo price is Y146,773 plus 5% tax (thats 70% off the MRSP). Roughly equivalent to P70K...

the sw20a was P99K w/ dvd player + screen. I am sure you can get a similar deal...

Where did you get this deal? in any Home Theatre store?
-
microdata , the distributor
-
What kind of screen is that? You can also get it as the Eiki LC-SM3 or the Boxlight equivalent. They are all the same. The Eiki sells for around 85k.
I'm still waiting to be able to demo the X1. Aside from this, I'm also considering the Sony VPL-VW11HT. If I don't find any of these satisfactory, then I may consider the Sanyo/Eiki
-
I'm also considering the Sony VPL-VW11HT.
Hi Hamann. Where is this available?
-
Hong Kong, unfortunately. You can get the Sony VPL-VW10HT for even less than the Sanyo. You should check that out too.

Ang mga standard weight ng LCD projector ay 2.7-3 Kgs.... mabigat ba ito ?? Alam kong mas mabigat ito kesa sa laptop... ??? :o
-
Yup thats about right. Some are even heavier.

I just auditioned the Sanyo Z1 and this afternoon and I'm speechless!!!!! I never expected a projector that cheap to look THAT GOOD. Pictures were sharp, colors were rich and saturated. I even viewed that projector with only an S video cable, against an ordinary presentation screen and it was not even calibrated. We just turned it on right out of the box.
I'm so glad I waited this long before I chose one. I almost bought the Sanyo Sw20a which I thought was already ok, but I heard the X1 was coming out. My friend has it in the US and because he has compared the Z1 and the X1 and cannot find any differences between the two excellent image qualities of the projectors. If you were to find a fault in each one, it would be that the Z1 still has that screendoor, but I have to say it is only noticeable when you do get close to the screen. With the DLP X1 it is the rainbows that annoy a number of people, although some can live with it.
At least now I know what projector I'm going to buy. With a price of just around 100k this seems like the steal of the year. The picture quality is so good it can beat so many rear-projection TVs you swing at it. In fact, the picture does not look like a projectors picture quality anymore. We even tested it with lighting and the results were excellent. Plus of course, viewing with a 100" screen ;D
-
I also wanted the sanyo z1 , but could not wait. so bought the sw20a late november.
I have finally built my HTPC w/c drives my projector and also the toshiba RPTV... I just move it between the 2.. And indeed there is a noticable improvement in picture quality

where did you auditioned it? are you in the phils btw? is the X1 still not available in asia-pacific?
the x1 is getting great reviews from casual users and professionals alike, and is selling like pancakes.....ive had it ordered like 2 weeks already and im still waiting for the stocks to arrive, im already starting to look for alternatives and im geared towards the z1 too,
i believe the x1 is cheaper than the z1 right?
-
The home theater in Salcedo village :)
I've been waiting for the X1 too but it's currently out of stock everywhere. What made up my mind is the shootouts in avsforum where people couldnt really tell them much apart. Having read that I jumped at the Z1. If they were that close then I probably won't feel that bad if the X1 IS better.
Plus I wouldnt know how I'd react to the rainbows if I did see them.

i see, so kay sonny ka pala kumuha, how much were u able to get it? (kung confi pm mo na lang s akin :-)
oo nga, since there is no clear winner between the two, id stick with the x1 since it is cheaper,i almost changed my mind buti na lang tumawag yung supplier and he confirmed na tuesday daw dadating yung x1
and besides, ive been using dlp pjs in the past and ive never seen rainbows (yet) though i get minor headaches when the settings are too bright, but since in film mode, its a lot darker than in presentation mode, i think id be ok with it...if not, i'll just return the unit and get the z1 probably
enjoy your pj and post your feedback here :-)

Hamann/kimera,
I'm also interested in the Z1 and the X1...I wasn't aware that they were locally available na pala. I've been dying to audition these projectors and see how they compare to the NEC LT150 which I have.
The LT150 is a decent machine and performs quite well. I partner it with an iScan so the images I get are quite great, particularly in a light controlled environment. I use a 80"x44" DIY screen and watching well mastered DVDs on it simply blows me away. Fortunately, I don't see the rainbows.
My only complaints are the LT150's slight fan noise and light leakage. I'd like to see how the Z1 and X1 handle these problems.
Hamann, how much is Sonny T. selling the Z1? MicroData and ImaTech also sell Sanyo projectors but their websites don't show the Z1 yet. May Z1 na ba sila?
Kimera, who's the local supplier of the X1 and how much are they selling it for? Doesn't ATI carry the X1?
Cheers 8)
-

official distributor is ATI yup, but the last time i talked to them is nde pa daw available, just give them a call to know when the units will be arriving
im quite impressed with the X1, great colors and impressive details, that's all i can say coz i really dont know much about the technical side of it so i cant give a thorough review...simply put, im satisfied, maybe bcoz its my first pj heheheh
i tried stand alone DVD player then my HTPC, looks like i need to configure my HTPC more coz i only get a minor improvement in terms of video quality
my only problem is ive got a small room, its a dedicated HT room (4m x 2.7m x 3.2m ) so pag 8ft yung projection, medyo masakit sa ulo so i had to settle with smaller screens, at 6ft diagonal oks na sya, kaso bitin hehehe...sayang, looks like i need to convince the wifey to convert the living room to HT room and vice versa
noise is tolerable, mas maingay pa nga yung PC ko eh but i dont mind coz malakas naman yung audio di ba?
-
i have a question lang. yun bang X1 is 16:9 or compatible lang ? i know that the sanyo Z1 is 16:9 native. because i'm choosing between the two.
thanks!
-
Hi everglide,
Welcome to PinoyDVD :D.
The In Focus X1 is a standard SVGA resolution (800x600)projector. To watch anamorphic DVDs in full resolution, you'll have to switch to the widescreen mode.
You are correct, the Sanyo Z1 is a native 16:9 widescreen LCD projector which uses a 960 x 540 resolution format.
Cheers 8)
-
thanks neo for the warm welcome!
so meaning no more black bars on the top and bottom when you switch to widescreen mode (X1)?
thanks!
-
hi everglide,
Actually, you'll still have black bars at the top and bottom of your screen just like when watching "letterboxed" movies because you are viewing a "widescreen" DVD on a 4:3 projector panel. However, unlike in "letterbox", these upper and lower portions of the panel are actually "turned-off" instead of just projecting black.
When watching an anamorphic DVD, the projector (switched to widescreen mode) will use only the middle 800x450 pixels for projecting the DVDs full 480 resolution lines. Although the native resolution of the projector is 4:3 (800x600), switching it to "widescreen mode" in effect turns it into an 800x450 widescreen projector.
Cheers 8)
-
thanks neo for the warm welcome!

thanks!
yes you'll still have the black bars, and depends on the aspect ratio of the movie, remember, maraming aspect ratios na naglabasan na widescreens, most popular is the 2.35:1, but if you're gonna watch movies with 16:9 ARs, bale mukhang full screen na sya but your resolution was cropped to 800x450 instead of the native 800x600, which is fairly ok since wala naman nawala dahil wala naman talagang data dun sa 150pixels na na-crop out
and yes, the X1 is native 4:3 but with widescreen (16:9) mode
-
Hong Kong, unfortunately. You can get the Sony VPL-VW10HT for even less than the Sanyo. You should check that out too.
Sony VPL-VW10HT is expensive here because Custom charged taxes to it like the projection T.V. Sanyo SW-20 is tax lower since the model most of you mentioned are for data projection. Thus it is much more for business presentation.
-
Hey Guys,
Baka interested kayo sa SONY PROJECTORS....we are having a SPECIAL SALE....
look at the general section
-
Both X1 and Z1 are now available, and I think prices have dropped a lot , since I saw advertising from microdata ( sanyo dealer) a xga projector w/ screen + dvd player for P79K i think...
Does anyone here have new prices for these ...
-
What's the farthest and biggest picture size have you guys projected? I'm getting a 15 feet diagonal screen and I'm a bit scared that the projector (Infocus X1) wouldn't project a good image on screen. I've used the display calculator on Infocus and it says I'd need to position the projector 22-26 feet away from the screen & the projector's rated to go back til 32 feet. So anyone experienced with this predicament?
-
Lots of owners say the X1 should not be projected to more than 80 inches, 90 max. Check out avsforum, lots of X1 owners there. It loses a lot of its brightness as the image gets even slightly bigger than that. Few DLP owners (of other models) project to greater than 110 inch diagonal.
The only one I've heard of that people project to more than 10 feet, with good results, is the big Sony LCD (model 10, 11, and now 12).
Good luck! Nothing like a pj.
-
Oh bugger... So I'm stuck at 8 feet diagonal? :(
-
I've decided to buy the X1 in the US. I'll be able to get the projector for $899.00 (after rebate) and the 9x12' projector screen for $402.
Can anyone suggest an online retailer for the above two item and what brand of screen is the best to get?
-
15feet diagonal is way too big for the X1 to handle...max you can get without sacrificing PQ is 100" across 4:3 AR at a distance of probably at least 3.5m and up...you can use infocus' distance/screensize calculator but as ive said, dont go over 100" otherwise its crap
so far, its quite difficult to find an online retailer from the US that accepts international orders, accepts credits cards not issued in US and/or delivers internationally
this was my option before but ended up buying from a UK based online retailer kasi nga wala ako makita, and besides, i computed the customs charge and VAT plus the delivery and added it to the cost, would turn out almost the same as ive gotten it over here so no difference at all
also, the free 3 year extended warranty and rebate is not honored outside the US and have expired already last 31 MAY
for screen, get either a blackout fabric or a parkland plastic...right now im using a blackout fabric and its doing great, somehow minimized the rainbows...am still looking for a parkland plastic though
-
For what its worth, I auditioned a NEC HT-1000 (yep, one of the Top Faves in AVSForum & Proj Cntrl) through
a local NEC dealer and it was fantastic.
To my eyes, it's as good as the Screenplay 7200 w/c
is an HD2 DLP and yet costs much less. It'll be a nice gift for Father's day..... keep dream'n.
-
BHPhoto.com (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/) sells & ships equipment to international customers.
I'm having the unit shipped to a US address. The $100 rebate on the above mentioned website is extended til June 30th. Dunno about the warranty extension though.
I'll probably buy the screen here. Hauling luggage 15 feet long is no picknick.
I find the pricetag of the NEC a bit too daunting but I feel the specs doesn't warrant this. Only improvements I see over the X1's the contrast, XGA resolution, inclusion of a DVI-D port, lower noise and a PC Card reader. With everything else medyo lugi ka.
-
The local price on the NEC HT-1000 I got was fairly close to the online prices advertised in the US, which is way below its MSRP.
I thought of ordering the unit online from the US and shipped to a US address, but the hassle of bringing it back here and the warranty coverage incase of service and repairs will be a major headache. Getting it from a local NEC dealer should take care of this problem.
I may also add that the HT-1000 has a sealed light engine/optic, a 4x speed six segment color wheel, and a few other features that make it a class of its own, and features found to units costing much more.
Goodluck!

i think ive tried getting one from them also and if i remember it correctly, they wont allow credit card purchase unless the card is issued in the US or it's a Diners or American Express credit card.....another way to pay is thru wire transfer
anyway, goodluck on your hunt

Dolpy, could you please PM the dealer and, if you don't mind, the price. Thanks!

For those who might be interested on Front Projectors (FP), the local NEC dealer I earlier got a quote for the NEC HT-1000 is AVLS, All Visual & Lights System.
Aside from NEC FP's they also carry EPSON, models TW-100H, and the OPTOMA brand w/c are also very good-excellent for HT use. The prices are reasonable and provide full warranty and service on their Fp's.
-
Purchasing the X1 is proving to be most difficult. I hope I can find a reseller in Las Vegas.
-
i just got the sanyo plv-z1. i was surprise with the good image and clarity of colors, it's a good buy for the price!
thanks neo and kimera!

Are Sharpvision projectors any good?
-
between the z1 and the x1,which one would you choose?
-
you guys may want to take a look at the sony cineza vpl-hs1. talked to a guy from a firm called avidpro and he said they are selling these at p120k with free dvd player (sony dvp-k370). call marvs arcega at 843-9052.
on the other hand, you may also want to take a look at the lg rd-jt21 dlp projector. avidpro is also selling this at p95k.
-
Are Sharpvision projectors any good?
the Sharp XV Z1000 is one heck of a projector parekoy
try to audition the Z1 and the X1, best bang for the buck whichever you get between the two
-
Do you guys know if the x1 or the z1 is available in hongkong,I have a friend whos going there .
-
my friend agreed to bring in the sanyo plv-z1 at 85k landed price, anybody interested just let me know ;D
-
Wow, the projector boom has hit pdvd! :)
I can empathize; the last time I made a presentation using a business projector, I sneaked in a tape measure to see how many diagonal inches the pj was throwing. Sabi tuloy ng cliente, "Ang sama yata ng balak mo, a."
BTW, for those eyeing the Cineza, X1, and Z1, I hear that the Panasonic L300u is a great alternative.
-
yup,and so i hear but its selling here at 130k ;D.
-
I have a friend whos a reseller of Panasonic Projectors, for those of you who are interested, you can e mail me privately your contact details and ill have them send you the details i.e specs, pricing
-
Yipee,I Finally got my Sanzo plv-z1,but I need a 25 ft long male to male vga cable, does anybody have any idea where i can get one. Thanks
-
Congratulations bigbird!!! ;D
Since I'm kinda scared about the rainbow effects on X1...
I think I'm going to take the plunge with an Epson Powerlite S1(LCD) . I've seen it perform on TechTV - ScreenSavers ... Even with a TV studio environment, the video was still viewable (Pearl Harbor DVD)...
I checked out the specs, ok naman. 1200 ANSI Lumens, HDTV, 4:3/16:9... They have a fix for the screendoor effect, even though visible ok na daw.
BTW, it costs $999 (U.S.) ...
A local distributor (Audio Visual) sells it at 72k.
Guys what do you think?
-
Why not just go for the z1,I read the review of the s1 at projector central and it is not that encouraging. ;D
-
don,
get whatever gets you off. my preference for the X1 (i love my baby) is from being spoiled from my previous office DLP projector. I've seen a demo in a sharp, canon & ekea(?) lcd projectors and the issues that these projectors have before like the screen door effect is there.
also DLP technology is the choice for the forthcomming D-Cinema standard for digital projected theaters. sure the x1 doesn't do 2K or 3K resolutions but the technology is the same. so if it's good enough for George Lucas then it is good enough for me. :)
-
bigbird, $1k lang budget ko hehehe ;D
DViant,
I guess I really need to demo the X1 ;D I'll take my time to decide.
Thanks guys!

chief,
i've seen the S1 in action and comparing with the Z1 and X1, looks like it wont hit it big, esp that the X1 is still cheaper and the Z1 going down on prices lately
but then again it could be the setup of the seller, but what i saw didnt impress me
its up to you anyway, demo the S1 and try to at least do a side by side with either X1 and Z1
tip: for a few dollars more, id say get the Z1 (am i biased? hehehe but i do own an X1 too so not really biased at all...cheers!)
@bigbird: hows your Z1? its really quite a big leap isnt it? from a 28" TV to a 110" cinema like experience......what i did for my vga cable is i used UTP CAT5E cables and made it up myself, using the appropriate VGA connectors, i dont see any difference when im using that and the 6feet vga cable i bought
-
Yes indeed, actually i came from 7 years old conventional non flat tv,so you could imagine my shock when I saw how good a picture this thing can deliver even on my light blue wall.the reason why I went with the z1 instead of a x1 is because during my one month of research on the net,esp in the avsforum.I can probably recall at least 3 threads where in actual side to side shootout from people who have access to both this fp,the z1 came out on top .although many said this two can be made to be to look like one another,I guess it all bolis the to whether you want a 4:3 or 16:9,with regards to screendoor,it can be remedid by sitting further than the recomended 1.5 or by a slight defocus while rainbow has no cure if you can see it,bottomline just choose your poison.
PS:this is just my personal opinion. I hope I dont get flamed hehe.as deviant said ,get whatever gets you off ;D
-
nice one bigbird! congrats! enjoy your z1 !
-
thanks evergliden, until now i still can't believe how good this thing is.the only drawback is that I have a lot of P* disk and they look like crap when viewed at a 92" screen.so from now on p*disk wont be an option for me anymore hehehe.btw I'm right now I'm projecting it at a 45x80 DIY blackout cloth,I can only imagine what it will look like with a dalite highpower :)

I'll try to demo these projectors. Thanks guys! I still have a month to decide. :)

unfortunately, NO, these pjs are not good in well-lit rooms, well most front projection systems arent good at well-lit environments even the much expensive ones, and since we're talking about entry level pjs, sad to say they dont "shine" when there's light around
i believe only high-end CRT pjs can produce decent projection on lit areas,
and besides, mas oks manuod kapag medyo madilim di ba, btw, you can have ample lights in your HT room para naman nde ka mangapa sa dilim hehehe as long as the light doesnt hit/touch/reach your projection screen, display would still be fantastic
goodluck
-
There are two units of Epson S1 being used at Greenbelt 3 Food Court.
Screendoor effect, is quite noticeable when you're near the screen. But it performs well pag malayo ka, even in a well-lit environment.
Hmmm... I wonder if these LCD units will last... Around 12 - 14 hrs non-stop gamit nila... :o
--
Kimera,
Any new tweaks that you made for your X1?
I'm kinda leaning towards it. ;D Were youy able to get rid most of the rainbows?
Thanks!
Don

Hi angeline444, Welcome to PinoyDVD.
You may also want to visit Sonny Tuazon of Home Theater (812-52-35). :)

thanks Compaq, what brands of projectors does mr. Tuazon carry?, do u know his e mail ad?
THanks

Thanks in advance guys!

hi all,
I would just like to share my experience on projectors based on my experience.
back projecting to a tracing paper improves the brightness of the projector, any light source touching aside from the projector touching the tracing paper must be blocked for optimal image quality. my plan is to have a customized stained glass as my screen. My infocus lp400 dlp projector's capacity is only 700 ansi lumens, it is bright enough even with the lights on but what we all want is the brightest image as possible, that's why I thought of this idea.
hope this helps

Guys what do you think?
just my 2 cents:
at your budget of $999, get yourself a dlp projector.
a dlp is a dlp and an lcd cannot be a dlp. although lcd projectors have gone a long way in terms of picture quality, still it just comes close to a dlp performance.
hope this helps
-
Kimera and Dviant - How's the image quality, when you set the X1 to presentation mode? I'm planning to use it as a part time presentation projector (lit areas)...
Thanks in advance guys!
Don
Image quality is good but the resolution's not really for computer presentation. Don't get me wrong but the resolution of 800x600's isn't enough for regular use for Powerpoint or iPhoto slideshows. I dont notice the rainbow effect. If you're still unsure about this I suggest you ask for a demo from ATI before you buy from them.

Not to mention that DLP technology is the basis for the D-Cinema standard. D-Cinema's the platform/standard that'll be used for Digital Projectors in the movie houses of the future. I've done my rounds auditioning LCD projectors a few months back but all of them have the screendoor effect that I find annoying. While none of the DLPs I have seen exhibits this defect. Just like everything else this is a matter of personal preference so choose on the basis of the info given to you and your usage. :)
-
i see you also know about these stuff dviant ;)
As mass production begins and demands for these products goes up, we can expect price drops and picture improvements over the succeeding years including movie house cinema changes.
My current project is to substitute metal halide bulbs with white halogen bulbs which are cheaper and will suit my personal home theater requirements for everyday use. (right now i try to limit my usage since the bulb is expensive ;) )
so far, my problem is finding a dummy load for the ballast, as the projector won't display an image when it does not see a bulb connected.
I guess it will not be long when prices of metal halide bulbs also drop. :D
-
can you guys tell me what "rainbow effect" are you experiencing? coz I never experience anything odd when i use my projcector for watching movies or for pc projection.
-
DLPs use a color wheel to create colors, which sometimes appear on the screen as a rainbow-like splash of light. You can induce this by shaking your head quickly, or moving your eye across the screen quickly -- which is not how one normally watches movies.
Some folks are more sensitive to rainbow effects than others. Fortunately I'm not one of those. :)

kawboy - Tnx!

Don
pre sorry ha, been busy lately kaya ngayon lang ako ulit nakapag PinoyDVD
anyway back to your queries, i believe ive mentioned here that ive set aside my X1 in favor of the SAnyo Z1, i just cant live with all the rainbows, ive done lots of tweaks and stuff, but i still see them, besides if i invite my friends to watch over, i wouldnt be happy if they get disapointed when they see the rainbow
with the Z1 though, havent heard any complaints, with the proper setup, screendoor is a non-issue and since its a short throw pj, works well with small rooms....screendoor is also evident on dlp projectors (yes even on X1)
if ur keen with the X1, it can double up as a presentation projector, just make sure you use presentation mode (duh ehehehe) so that it outputs all lumens and contrast which is needed on presentation
instead of the S1, i highly recommend the Z1, its 1/4HDTV and native 16x9
but if you need something for use in presentation, get a higher resolution pj
cheers!
-
kimera, maybe we can schedule a sort of demo so you can show me the rainbow effect, coz i don't see them on my infocus lp400. I will be glad to bring it.
Got back from HK yesterday and got myself an olympus eye trek fmd-200 (it's like a sony glasstron-lcd glasses) this thing rocks, it's like watching in a theater size screen. although it's only 180,000 pixel, it sure is a different cinema experience. I'm a bit hesitant on selling it or keeping it since it's kinda expensive just for my audio-video lust.
-
im in the uk right :-(
btw, not all people are susceptible to rainbows, so if you cant see raibows on your lp400, you're one of the lucky then
congrats on your lp400
btw, those glasses are really cool
-
Thanks kimera! I decided to pull the trigger... I chose the Infocus X1 over the Epson S1. I just wish that I'm not rainbow sensitive..... I also ordered an ND Filter just in case I need it. Before the month ends, I'll post my findings. Thanks guys!
-
Initial tests on X1.... I'm using a DIY screen (400 pesos only!!!) + svideo for my X1. Works great! I played black and white videos, xbox racing games, and subtitles. I only see the rainbows when I quickly dart my eyes sa screen (Black and white texts on screen + subtitles). The good thing about it is that it doesn't bother me when I see it.
I didn't see rainbows on my xbox games, but when I watched my cousin play a racing game medyo nahilo ako.... heheheh. I'm really happy with the purchase. I'll post a full review on the x1 thread, when I finish my setup.
For those who are looking for a projector, Infocus X1 is a great choice over the S1 specially if you don't detect rainbows. The image output is still viewable even when the lights are on, the fan noise is not bad.
To kimera, dviant, bigbird, slowhand, and the rest... Thanks guys! This thread really helped me choose a projector.
-
Congrats, don!
Good choice. Welcome to the ever-growing pj club.
Saw your gear over at the audio thread. Nice setup.

Thanks slowhand! :)

congrats, and enjoy your system

Wow, congrats Don, lupit na HT system mo bro.

btw, passed by G/F Megamall last night Bldg. B, tapat ng SM, yung malapit sa Naturalizer, swatch... may demo sila ng InFocus, di ko lang alam kung hanggang kelan sila run. :)

Hi don, where r u located.if it's possible maybe I can see a demo of your x1 in action and if you want you can demo my z1. I'm looking for a projector for my dad's home theater and I'm thinking of going dlp for a change.I'm actually choosing between the dlp nec ht1000 and the lcd panny ae300.

Don, di pa, para di OT: I'll just send you a pm ;)
Bro Bigbird, as I've mentioned, ongoing pa rin demo ng x1 sa gamol. check it out if you work nearby. :)

Big bird and don, maybe we can organize a projector comparison demo one of these days, I've always been anxious to see the difference between an lcd and dlp at a picture comparison point of view, and also a 5th generation dlp projector like the x1 against my 2nd generation dlp lp400.
-
sure teban,I'm would be interested in something like that.ikaw na ang official organizer.just tell me when and where:)

ok. let's wait for don's reply. confirmation na lang nya ang kulang :)

if ever the showdown pushes through,my new baby the sanyo-plvz2 has arrived.it is a 1280x720 lcd projector.I'I havent done a side by side comparison with the z1 since my dvd-d cable hasn't arrived yet.but my initial impressions even with an ordinary dvd player is that it is much better than my z1but not by much. ;D
-
Hello, Bigbird.
I am interested to see your Z2 in action. Your PJ has been getting rave reviews on the web. I can join you for a shoot out as I use an Epson TW100H. I want to see them operating side by side and see the difference.
How much did you get it for? Did you buy it here? or from the states?
Do you have a dvd with DVI output so we can see this PJs in action in pure digital format?
Let ma know.
Rev
-
revskie, don and teban.I'm looking forward to the shootout.Just tell me when and where :).I just hope that someone with a DLP projector can join us.Since I havent seen a DLP in action besides the x1.
revskie:I'm still looking for a player with DVI output like the MOMITSU.In the mean time I'm in the process of building another HTPC so I can maximize the projector's capabilities.
-
I want to try front projection too. Right now my candidates are the BenQ 6100 or Infocus X1 or possibly a new Infocus 4805.
I am starting out with an entry level unit and both the BenQ and Infocus X1 can be had for about $900 in the US.
I am coming from a RPTV 50"
Any advice from people out there?
Plan to order it abroad as prices here are almost double.
Thanks for whatever help you can give.
-
Looks like we have the same Projector in mind ha, TG. But I'm more inclined in getting the Benq. But as I read the X1 thread. Medyo naguguluhan pa ako. Ano nga kaya ang mas maganda?
-
Hi, Being the originator of this thread more than a year ago, I am very pleased with the projector I have bought. Got the Sanyo with a DIY 120" screen. As of now, it is still with the original bulb (my fingers crossed) The picture quality still amazes me and all visitors and friends who see it.
I do check out the newer models out there from various manufacturers like in focus, toshiba, panasonic etc.... but still i am not impressed with it for the price they want for their unit. spending more than P100,000 for an LCD or a dlp is such a waste INMO.
I do not see any screendoor effect or any rainbows people complain. Just paid around P85,000 for my sanyo.
-
Congrats! Good to hear you're pleased with your pj.
-
Just got my sony cineza VLP HS3. I cant believe it....I waited this long for this. Now I know what Ive been missing.

hello everyone, its been 15months since i got my Z1 and probably the same time since i last visited pinoydvd and a lot of thing has changed now forum-wise.....anyway, hows your Z2? did u say not much difference with the Z1? have u tried feeding it with progressive signals, im sure that's where it will shine against the Z1...though i dont think shelling out another big sum of money for an upgrade is what i need now, im still in love with the Z1 ;D
to all those who are into FP recently, congrats to all of you as its a BIG upgrade visually (literally)
cheers

Anyone using eiki lc-sm3?
-
I'm also considering buying a projector. The Brain Company in MegaMall is selling a Toshiba TDP-S25 DLP for 65K. It has 1800 lumens and 2000:1 contrast. I haven't seen a demo but the specs seem good for the price. I read a post here praising the Panasonic AE700 so I checked it out at Listening Room. It goes for 95K and it is indeed amazing (though I don't know how good a judge I am since I'm just a newbie). I'd like to try out the Toshiba in a proper setting. Has anyone seen this projector in action?
-
Anyone seen the Epson EMPS3 in action? It has 1600 ANSI lumens and costs cheaper than other LCD projectors around P52-54K lang. Uses 3 LCD technology and has a bulb life of 3000 hours in low brightness mode and 2000 hours in high brightness mode. It also boasts of having the cheapest replacement bulb at P11+++ only. Looks tempting....
-
a couple of things about pjs...
1. Specs, esp. lumens, don't mean much. There's no way to verify them. Anyway, more lumens is good for a business pj but not the main thing about an ht pj.
2. Estimated bulb life doesn't mean much too. Ultimate AV tested pjs and they reckon most pjs have a useful bulb life that's much shorter than the estimated bulb life. They measured 30% less brightness from the bulb after only 250 hours (that's right, two hundred fifty hours). That seems to echo my experience and observation. So, budget a couple of replacement bulbs with your purchase.
Happy shopping!
-
slowhand- that seems discouraging that the bulb's performance detriorates at around 250 lamp hours. it would somehow become expensive stocking up replacement bulbs considering their cost. :-\
-
nirv - oo nga. don't take my word for it, visit this link to read the report: http://www.guidetohometheater.com/videoprojectors/1004benq/index3.html
It must be said that the low number of hours is a perfectionist's point of view. Yun nga lang, a projector kinda makes you a perfectionist because the image is so good.
You do get used to an image that is less bright compared with when the bulb was new, but it's noticeable.
-
I owned the infocus 4805, they are brilliant. Paid A$3K (roughly P120K) for it late last year. PQ is awesome.

i read ultimate av's article and it appears their observation is not at all extensive and is actually limited to a small sample (2 pj's?)... hardly conclusive, isn't it? ive read before that projectors vary from unit to unit (even those of the same model) that one might extract varying performance from each (i.e. some observe vertical banding from the box, while others vb is next to non-existent). im also wondering why there are not enough posts in avs forums (pj forum) that highlight this "degrading performance"?
but then again, i also read about similar findings from a white paper i read a while back (can't find it anymore), but i doubt its objectivity as it was commissioned by a dlp pj manufacturer.
-
there are several threads about this on avs. many owners are reporting below 1000 hours life, with noticeable dropoff below that.
and you're right, v0elker, ...figures vary quite a bit from unit to unit. and, nope, no survey i've seen anywhere is conclusive.
btw i don't mean to be negative with these posts, in case that's how it appears... just trying to be helpful with a heads-up. bottom line is, just include a replacement lamp in your budget.
cheers.
-
hi slowhand,
yeah, there seems to be quite a number of incidents of premature lamp failure as reported in avs... there are even those who are on their nth bulb in just a short time. locally, would you know if such incidents are covered by warranty? my assumption is it should be, as it is far short of the quoted figures by the manufacturer. ahhh, but logic rarely plays in such matters sometimes.
i understand that the lamp life quoted by the manufacturers are often too optomistic (as is the case with other specs) but less than 1000 hours is far too short. the operating environment and other factors may play a part in the lamp's life, but less than 1/3 of the quoted lamp life is just plain absurd. i sure hope those who suffered such incidents were properly compensated or furnished with replacement lamps.
sorry if my previous post came across as a negative reaction to your helpful post. indeed replacement lamps should be considered as part of the budget, specially if one intends to keep the pj for quite some time.

I have seen both. I wasnt impressed with the S25 demo at the BRAIN. They used ordinary composite video connection with a room that wasnt very dark (Megamall). I saw a lot of lines and grains in the demo and they were using a demo disc already, not to mention that the projection distance was only about 4 feet away.
Take note that the S25 does not have our regular 3 rca component connection, nor a HDMI. You need some sort of VGA to component connector which is hard to find here.
My friend has the AE700 and its just superb, with breathtaking PQ. I would go for this if I can. I went way over budget with my house renovation so I have to shelf my desire for this projector for the meantime ;D.

locally, would you know if such incidents are covered by warranty?
warranty only covers up to a few months on the lamp...
-
lamp has a 3 mos. warranty if PJ is purchased bnew, but if u purchase tha lamp only (replacement) theres no warranty.
-
thanks for the info on the lamp warranty
that's a bummer on the replacement lamp's warranty, specially with the high incidence of lamp failures that's being reported on avs and other forums... is this true for all dealers? even if you purchased the pj from them?
-
AFAIK this is true for all dealers, yes , even if you purchased the pj from them, what you should do before getting ur replacement lamp is have ur dealer check ur pj if there are other problems.
Take for example the delta AV600 , some units (same model) are not compatible with the replacement lamp, and if not compatible will shorten the life or lamp will be busted immediately upon replacement, accdg to the supplier, you also have to check/replace the ballast if compatible with the replacement lamp. Diagnostic fee of more or less P 500 is worth it compared to the cost of the replacement lamp if you break it. :)
-
thanks for the tip!
mukhang best nga if one brings along the pj to have it cleaned na rin... as i understand from the posts at avs, dust can accumulate inside the pj, specially around the lens.
also from what i read, the sanyo z3 offers a novel (not sure if it's foolproof) way of ridding the lens of some dust-you can unplug some seals and use an included blower to blow the dust off the lens. shiny!

not sure sa brand, nakalagay sa box "Supreme Static Chiffons Secs" dun sa dust that gets inside the pj, u have to let the technician do the cleaning.

I suddenly have a budget for a projector, a gift of my balikbayan brod-in-law yesterday who pitied our huge, bulky RPTV in our tiny HT/Living room ;D.
Question is: How often does Panasonic release their new models? My friends bought the AE100 & AE300 a few years back (2002) and now there is AE500 & 700 na in just a few years. I was thinking it would be a good idea to wait for the newer model which in my estimate, will be coming this Oct-Nov., 2005.
Anyone know when Panasonic releases their new models? Or maybe you have links to their upcoming models?
TIA :)
-
MAtZTER, check out avsforum, details on the new AE900 is starting to emerge... pati yung sa competition like the Sanyo Z4, Hitachi PJ-TX200 and yung sa epson, forgot the model...
more details should be available soon, this week kasi yung CEDIA, most of the new pj's will be shown there... everyone seems to be saying that the new models will be out by end of Sept

Cool article! Sana the AE900 will have the same price as the AE700's introductory price.
Cant wait for it to be out in the market!
-
I just read the articles again, Grabe, the new LCD projectors have higher contrast ratio than our current plasma models!
The Z4 is at 7000:1 contrast! This seems interesting. Anybody knows who deals with Sanyo PJs here in Manila? (calling bro Voelker! ;))

Was inquiring awhile ago about the AE900. Still not here.
But the AE700 has dropped down to P85k!

Sanyo Z4 is out now in HK ...
http://www.avbuzz.com/audio-video/200510/ckl-sanyo-z4/index.htm
-
Very nice site! But the Z4 will be over Php110k if you buy it from HK. Taxes & warranty not included. I hope there is a local distributor here.
I was told that the new model projectors are always priced like this upon initial release then slowly drops until the next model comes along.
-
Hi Guys,
I just want to chime in my Projector experience here, Pany AE700. The reason I got this over the Sanyo Z3, aside from the "better" video quality is the better local pricing and service. At the time when I bought the Pany AE700 the Z3 was priced 20% more and there were no official Sanyo service centers.
The Pany AE700 has had several firmware updates from the initial release and these updates have to be done by your local Pany service centers. I have contacted Pany Phils. regarding these updates and that they will upgrade your unit to the most current firmware at the local service center. I havent upgraded, thinking that if it aint broke why mess it up, no problems with my Pany AE700 so far.
The specs of the forthcoming AE900 looks very promising, cant wait to see it.
:)

newbie here!
i'm canvassing for a 2000 Lumens Projector. preferably 3LCD technology
hope you could help me make a decision as to which product and model to buy.
Epson EMP X3: 2000 ansi
Panasonic LB10E: 2000 ansi (not sure if this is 3LCD)
Epson EMP 750 or 755: 2000 ansi (sa sing pa lang yata to, ala pa sa phils.)
which is better: epson, panasonic, sony or sanyo? and which has the affordable lamp replacement?
also, other than da lite and vega projector screens, any other brands available in the phil. market? i'm canvassing for a 7x7 or 8x8 tripod type.
thanks in advance... :)

Im planning to buy Panasonic ae900. Anyone interested w/ Sanyo Z1?
I can bring to Manila this Chinese New Year.

I'll appreciate if anybody could give reviews or narrate personal experiences on an Optoma H30 or EP716. These models are very affordable and has quite good reviews in some web forums. Mr. Sonny T. is selling these models but I thought of finding some more opinions from pinoydvd. I think the EP716 has 1800 lumens while H30 has 800 lumens only. I can manage to keep my room dim if required.

With a budget of 50K, the infocus x1 and x2 will be your best bet. I have the infocus x1 and the infocus 4805 (more expensive) and the picture quality from both is great!

eto choices ko... help me pick one out.
infocus x3
optoma h27
optoma dv10
panny pt900
optoma h31
optoma 716p
emp tw20
also, if you guys have any suggestions on where i can buy them, that'd be great. thanks.
-
go for panny or H31.
But H31 is for U.S. market PJ.
-
correct me if i'm wrong...but i think the panny nor the epson are dlps. i'd go for the optoma. the model would depend on your budget though.
-
If strictly DLP.....I'd go for the Optoma H31 ;D

anyway, is there really any visible difference between 480p and 720p ba?

yes bro, if budget permits, go for native 720p/1080i projectors, HD na kasi yun. you also mentioned that you have a high end htpc, so a higher resolution PJ would be a good match.
i suggest din not to limit yourself with DLPs. LCD PJs like panny ae900 is a "bang for the buck" purchase (love my own, hehehe). AV shops can accomodate you for an audition, so you can choose wisely sir.... ;D ;D

SIR: I have an INFOCUS X1 for sale. This is the machine that you qualifiably need. The X1 is THE breakthrough projector, it is called an entry-level DLP projector but it broke down the prohibitive price barrier set by other exploitative projector manufacturers. The superbiest beauty of the X1 is its high contrast and the embedded presence of the FAROUDJA deinterlacer-scaler chip. The Faroudja chip spells the quantum leap diff'rence between a quality film-cinema projector and a so-so, routine multi-media projectors that anyone could stumble upon even on outlets like Electroworld. Subsequent, modified models of the X1 that came after like the X1a, the X2, and the X3 has been stripped of the mighty Faroudja chip because it was very expensive. My unit has consumed only less than 150 hours of its 4,000 hours lamp lifetime, I'm letting it go with a heavy heart because I need the money and its my back-up unit for my projector rental part-time business. Hence I owned two X1s and I'm selling this good as brand new back-up unit. Please take a keen consideration of the Infocus, I am a long-time projector user, and have started with a Sony 1270 CRT, then a Starlight 500 DLP and then have held on to my Infocus X1 to this day. The GIANT SCREEN PROJECTION experience is a true magic, you're bound - I promised - to have your whole movie-watching horizon revalidated and expanded to cosmic proportion. You'll never go back again to paltry TVs and could even certifiably laugh with derision over those ultra-expensive plasmas and LCD TVs. The price is only P48,000, which includes a 90-inch Kodak tripod screen. I'm inviting you to evaluate this unit right in my own home, amidst a 200-meter meeting hall, with utmost privacy and liberty.

The problem with optoma is its limited zoom range, around 1.2x, this limits your flexibility in mounting the projector. Optoma are also known for very limited lamp life. the Panny 900 on the other hand cost just 85000 pesos and when properly set will probably make DLP's costing 2X heading for the hills.
The ptae900 at 720p and the Sony Ruby(1080p) are groundbreaking PJ's that made Good PQ available for the middle class.(Sanyo Z4, Mitsubishi hc3000 and the Hitachi 200 are also worth looking at). For me Infocus projectors are good also but their prices are not that attactive along with Optoma.
-
dobermaxx, in your shoes I would wait just a bit. Lots of new pjs coming out later this year. Possible Panny 1080p at $3500 if rumors are to be believed. Even if you don't go for the new ones, they would push down the prices of existing ones.
-
i agree completely with slowhand. i myself will unload my Panny if there is an affordable 1080p Pj in the near future as i am set for 1080p with my AVM50 Pre/processor
-
i passed by home theater today eh, i have the my list narrowed down to the optoma h27 and panny 900u. listening room is giving me the panny 900u for only 78k lang e, so its very tempting. on the other hand the h27 also has a very good pic quality for less than 60k.
may ibababa pa ba yung price ng panny after the 1080p pj come out? last time kasi, the price of the panny 700
didn't go down much after the 900 was released.
i'll look around some more before deciding.
-

Sa mga mag-uunload (in the future ;)) baka kaya ko saluhin yan just PM me!
-
optoma h27 is a SD projetor with the matterhorn DLP chip with a pixel count of around (854x480)300k for 60T
panny900 is a HD PJ with around(1280x720) 900k pixels at 78T
Its your choice
-
hirap naman mag-decide... :-\
ok here's another question... say i do purchase a panny 900 which is 720p, is there a special kind of dvd player i should be using to get the best pic quality?
-
bro, i agree with sir alvin, better choice ang panny ae900 than the optoma h27, more kung di issue budget sayo. future proof kana kasi High Definition na sya, unlike optoma h27. I was also in the same predicament before, no contest, I have the panny now.
A good DVD player to match with panny must be one with upscaling feature (720/1080i) and with hdmi/dvi outputs. Madami brands dyan (like samsung, toshiba, denon, pioneer etc), and would depend on your preferance, taste and budget. Try to research the net for reviews.

the longest i can wait is a month. i was supposed to buy kasi last december pa but i chose to wait for the prices to go down. but if i can't find a good deal, i won't have a choice...
most of the stores i went to don't accept credit cards so hirap maghanap. so far listening room lang yung store na nagustuhan ko yung price and tumatanggap ng card payments.

dude, san ka bumili?
i can afford the panny naman e. pero ang laki ng difference sa price between the two. i just think that maybe the money i save if i buy the h27 can go into buying a nice dvd player and some type of sound system. maybe a good screen.

how much do these players go for?
-
got my panny at SGT Home Theater......bro yeah laki difference coz SD lang yun optoma but tell you, dika magsisisi sa panny, you can look up the Panny ae900 thread, lots of satisfied owners there. Better look at this link Panny ae900 review(click) (http://www.audioholics.com/productreviews/avhardware/PanasonicPTAE900UProjectorReview1.php), scored 4.75 out of 5 in audioholics.com review.
Bro, regarding the upscaling dvd players w/ hdmi, iba iba prices nyan depending on the specs you want. you can check out the sources thread. prices start at around 7-8k...thats entry level for upscaling dvd players with hdmi. :)

how much did you get it for? i stopped by there today eh, pero wala si sir tuazon. did he give you a good deal? may freebies ba? ;D
-
The panasonic 900 has a good deinterlacer/scaler but not spectacular but at par with DVD players with 720p capability. The key here is to let your ordinary DVD player with component jacks output 480i resolution. The panny will then use this (nearly) unprocessed signal and do its own magic.

We are looking for the cheapest HT Projector.
Please give me recommendations.
My friend is buying within the week.

LOOK for a Panasonic PTAX200 LCD projector - a certified bestseller all over the world for HT videophiles. It sells for around P48,000 plus or minus from several specialty A/V shops like SGT Home Theater, Image Video and Theaterworks.
If you wanted better, more reliable and nervous-free technical craftsmanship your choice is a DLP beamer like the Infocus Screenplay 4805, Optoma HD65, Optoma HD73, Mitsubishi HC1100 & HC1500 & HC1600. all of these models could be obtained by not more than P70,000 - for now, in the most conservative, optimistic estimate.
If you wanted a higher-end Darkchip 3 DLP beamer with at least 4,000 Contrast and gorgeous black level - I suggests Mitsubishi's HC3100, it sells for around P80,000 or lower by now. I could direct you to a dealer which sells them up at 25 to 30% lower than established stores. Or go for an Infocus IN78, the best Darkchip 3 720p DLP that Infocus has managed to released before it went to fullscale 1080p production. But its retail might be slightly higher than the HC3100.
The essential thing is to experience giant screen projection - it'll proved to be a magical experience, it'll forever alter your visual perception. Its actually one of Home Theater concept's best-kept secret!

We are looking for the cheapest HT Projector.
Please give me recommendations.
My friend is buying within the week.
if you are saying cheapest, what you mean is cheapest hd, 16:9 with hdmi projector? if so, then you can have three chioices.
panasonic ax200 - 48-50k
optoma hd65 - 48k
benq w500 - 45k
panny and benq are 3lcd projectors while the optoma is a dlp projector, all are 720p native pjs but are all capable of displaying 1080p image, all are in 16:9 widescreen format already, optoma and benq has 1 hdmi input, while panny has 2 inputs. both panny and benq have lens shift for easier placement, optoma does not have lens shift. benq has the hqv reon chip, which can upscale all your sddvd to near hd quality.
now of course there are other 720p pjs out there, but as @taurus cute said, it will be a bit pricey already.
now if you just want a projector even if its 4:3 aspect ratio (tv ratio), there are a lot of good data projector out there that has component inputs that goes for as low as 30k. ;D
-
go for the benqw500 or a panasonic both have good reviews and performs well for its price

the distirbutors of these pjs can provide the replacement bulbs, bulbs usually cost 15-20k pesos, but you can also buy from the u.s. which are usually cheaper there. ;D

Hi!
Maybe someone can help me, I'm looking for benq w500, panasonic ax200, or optoma hd65 projector. Most of the local a/v stores that I've checked don't have stocks of these models. Maybe someone from pinoydvd knows where I can get one. Thanks.
br,
kenn

i got my benq from avls in libis, qc. look for marc bajita, he is avintegrator here in pdvd but seldoms go online now. office number is 9950879, 9110904 & 9110947. look for him, he handles benq w500 specifically.
for optoma, you can try hi-fi lounge in festival mall, alabang. i ask it there a few months ago, but they have to order it pa. look for tito villaflores, phone is 8428133.
for ax200, try cosmotech, i dont have details, but they have branches in festival mall, alabang and king's court, makati.
its hard to find this models now because most companies are about to launch their new models.
-
Naku, medyo mahirap na humanap ng AX200, pati supplier wala na. The last one i heard sa cosmotech meron pa isa but that was a month ago. Pero try mo na rin. Contacts available sa net.
Benq, meron din yata sa theaterworks at SnS, kaso medyo mahal pa sya ngayon. ;D
Good Luck Bro! Those are really good PJs.

Sorry bro yung cheapest screen lang meron ako ;) ;D

better grab one when you see it, pati na yung ax200, these projectors are already in their end of life period. new models are coming out. sisi nga ako hindi ko kinuha nung kay jeff. pero ganun talaga. kahit mas mahal, basta masaya. ang mahirap pag wala na.
sabagay, pag wala na, eh di yung mga bagong modelo! ;D ;D ;D

Since meron na recommendation for cheapest 720p PJ... how about the cheapest/best-bang-for-the-buck na 1080p projector? I think mas ma-appreciate yung additional detail ng 1080p at a very large screen compared to 50" LCD or plasma. ;D
-

the only home theatre projector that we cater for benq is the w100 and w500. we don't have any models for the w5000 and w20000. What i have for 1080 home theatre is viewsonic Pro8100, @ 113,000. The Epson EMP-TW700 @ 97,900, Benq PE7700 @ 97,000
got this post from the old benq w500 thread, i got my benq from avls where @avintegrator works. they are the official distributor of epson and viewsonic data and ht pjs and benq ht pjs in the philippines. but the post was last feb 2008 pa. dont know if the price still holds. but knowing prices of these products are going down than up, its just a question of kung may stocks pa since this will now be the old models as well.
i think the epson would be the bang for the buck here, since they are the ones that invented 3lcd technology that the other companies are using now. @98K. mura ito compared with panny ae2000 @125k and the new ae3000 @165K pricing.

SELLERS like AVLS are the sort of inflexible businesses na hindi mo kailanman magugulangan sa presyo. You can't TRULY take a certified good deal from AVLS, they'd sticked to the manufacturer's MSRP and would never pull down their pricing realistically. Not in a hundred years. Katulad na katulad yan ng ATI, yung dating dealer ng Infocus, sobrang laki pag nagpatubo, palibhasa they monolithically control the brand's market. AVLS controls the Epson projector line, thats why they don't care a whet if you buy or not because the downline of Epson sellers are all locked in to sourced their units from AVLS itself.
Take the Epson TW700. I meant to take this unit last January 2008. I was quoted a price of P95,000. When I came back three days later to negotiate for discounting, AVLS is asking P98,000+ for the thing. Clarifying why the topsy-turvy, mixed-up pricing, AVLS would not explained, simply concluding that thats their final price. When I insists on talking to their Chinese boss, they said he's in Hongkong. 12 months later AVLS remains so stubborned in sticking P97,000+ for the TW700 when its already obsolete and could not have, by any qualifiable indication, ever became an HT bestseller. Why not give a price break for the masses, why be so stubborned adhering to the former, high-price-policy business scheme which is now hopelessly outmoded and piles up dead capital?
The fact is companies like AVLS and ATI and even JVC's Trademark (for the JVC RS1 LCOS projectors) only came to realized very LATELY that there's a (niched) market to be mined for Home Theater-grade projectors. I'd say even a mere 12 months ago they couldn't get it into their heads that there's such a segment awaiting to be served, they're just out of touch. But the problem is that they hound that specialized but rising market with the business projector marketing scheme - a poor, shortsighted ethics.
I'm not playing authority here but if I had to choose amongst 720p beamers, I won't ever picked up a BenQ. The W500 is the weakest performing unit evaluated by the presentation authorities, even if its helped by the HQV Reon video chip, it remains just an average performing unit with no excelling qualities to distinguished it among its peers.
(Now a side note: At last November's Vinyl LP-centric Hi-Fi Show, AVLS's Chinese proprietor boasted that he spent a whooping P2 million for his vinyl gears & setup. No wonder he's so tightfisted with his pricing policy, it may be because he's so into his hobby - one abandoned by the consumers 20 years ago.)
-
the tw700 which i was also interested in before is only 720p. at that price, which is almost the same from their official retailer in cubao (quoted me for 99k), is definitely depressing.
also, the tw700 was released last 2006 pa.
http://www.epson.com.ph/products/projectors/EPSON_EMP-TW700.shtml (http://www.epson.com.ph/products/projectors/EPSON_EMP-TW700.shtml)
in the end, i still think people who plan to build a home theatre should only allot 50 to 60k max for a projector. no matter how big the screen size is, i believe the real beauty of looking at images still fall within it's contrast output and black levels which can only be achieved by pj's costing more than 200k like the jvc dila.
buy a decent 720p pj, and invest more on a big-sized full hd plasma or lcd which can be viewed in most lighting conditions. at the end of the day, watching movies or playing games is a personal affair and most often than not, i believe i would not frequently use such a big screen as my display if i was the only one in the room.

stand corrected sir pig_freak, i just read the post as is, and thought the epson was indeed a 1080p pj, if it is a 720p, mahal nga! ;D

Why not give a price break for the masses, why be so stubborned adhering to the former, high-price-policy business scheme which is now hopelessly outmoded and piles up dead capital?
i certainly agree with you in this, they were pretty inflexible when i bought my benq pj from them too, but in the end from an asking price of 55k it went down to 52k then finally to 45k with two years warranty and 6 months for the bulb . i also have no choice but to buy it from them since all resellers here were out of stock when i was trying to purchase it. ;D
I'm not playing authority here but if I had to choose amongst 720p beamers, I won't ever picked up a BenQ. The W500 is the weakest performing unit evaluated by the presentation authorities, even if its helped by the HQV Reon video chip, it remains just an average performing unit with no excelling qualities to distinguished it among its peers.
i chose the benq over the ax200 because there are growing issues in avs forum regarding the degradation of the unit's polarizer (whatever that is) after 18 months of use. apparently because of this unit's vaunted high lumen output, it fries the said polarizer hence rendering the edges of an image with blue tint, this issue really made me think for a long time but in the end i chose the benq. with regards to optoma, really like this dlp pj, and the price was and still is very reasonable, problem is, i will have problems in placement. i really needed the lens shift of the ax200 or w500.
only time will tell if i made the right decision, and since i am not a very discerning video buff. w500 is just right for me and my family. ;D
(Now a side note: At last November's Vinyl LP-centric Hi-Fi Show, AVLS's Chinese proprietor boasted that he spent a whooping P2 million for his vinyl gears & setup. No wonder he's so tightfisted with his pricing policy, it may be because he's so into his hobby - one abandoned by the consumers 20 years ago.)
i believe you sir! ;D ;D ;D

ITO pa, more selections to closely consider:
1. OPTOMA HD27 DLP for P41,000
2. PANASONIC AE900U LCD for P43,000
Both units brand new. And its not being sold by me but could be negotiated with PETER FALSIS on his A/V shop PRO LASER on Quezon Avenue. You may contact this kindly fellow at #0917-516-5285.
If I had a deeper wallet I'd grab the AE900u, this is a real bargain, a chance you can't have more frequently.

Dude, malaki parin difference ng Optoma at ng 50PV80. You're projector can at least project 80" of image. Yun pa lang sulit na. :o

Aside from size, which one has better picture quality (contrast, colors, deep black) at same price---Optoma HD803 Full HD DLP vs. Panasonic 50PV80? ???

YOU'RE comparing a GIANT SCREEN PROJECTION from that of a puny 50-inch plasma? Bwahahaha! Is a gnat a more imposing king than a hipoppotamus? Will you dwell in a scrimping cardboard balikbayan box than a 2,000 square feet mansion? Please, leave the funny lines to the comedians - but if you do have a personal-witness acquaintance with front projectors - the certified Home Theater type - your perception would be forever altered. You would even begin to hesitate to to give your P80- to P90,000+ expendable money to Pioneer or Panasonic, because what they're asking you is SO MUCH money for SO LITTLE real estate.
Now if anyone here wants to immersed himself completely in a true Home Cinema, the Optoma HD803 can be had for even lower - considerably lower - than what's being asked here by S & S. But whether you take it from S & S or elsewhere, the essential thing is to bring home one. When George Star Wars Lucas developed the idea of "home theater" in the late 1970s - ninety percent of what he advocated is towards having a stereo or 2.1 or 5.1 soundstage. Its audio-centric, and thats because Lucas could not even envisioned that early that a home theater front projector could even be brought and enjoyed right in our own sala, bedroom, garage, lawn, swimming pool, carpark, and rooftop. But its now 2008, podiyosporsanto, at nagtitiis ka pa rin sa 50-inch plasma? Put that money to better use, start to experience the magic......
-
there are a lot of variables to look at.
50pv80 (almost same price range, could be cheaper) contrast 100k or more versus 8k (the optoma full hd version). some plasmas are no longer measuring their clarity via contrast ratios like the kuro.
2000 to 3000 max hours for the lamp life (add another 15 to 20k once the lamp burns out. don't forget to consider the hassle of finding a replacement) versus 60000 to 100000 hours for plasmas.
if i can place the pj anywhere i want (not burdening myself with keystoning, throw distance and etc,) or watch full hd glory in all lighting conditions. I would certainly recommend all folks throw out their inhibitions with pj cost and simply just go big.
I think a buyer should consider a more economical way of setting up his home theatre. all i'm talking about is practicality and nothing more. i firmly believe one reason why the HT pj madness caught on was because the prices came down below 50k. so the price really is a factor.
-

i myself am roaming about and looking for a cheap pj, can you pm me the shop? thanks. ;D
-
Most if not all PJ users and that includes me....chose a 2-display setup.
-PJ ( in my case a w500) for full on movie viewing ;D
-LCD/Plasma/Crt( in my case pana 37") for other viewing purposes ;D
In the end, it all comes down to the person's viewing style, preference, budget...
Cheers!

Aside from size, which one has better picture quality (contrast, colors, deep black) at same price---Optoma HD803 Full HD DLP vs. Panasonic 50PV80? ???
There is really no right way to compare contrast and color level between a plasma TV and a cinema projector. A cinema projector contrast level is measured or evaluated according to the quality of the room. Projector will certainly reveal better contrast in a darker room than in a less darkly room. In the same manner, the color will deteriorate--wash-out--in a lighted environment. Also, the contrast and color will vary according to projection size.
In a room that is fully lighted, a plasma or an LCD TV will certainly look better picture--superior contrast and color--than projector.
We should rather compare apple to apple: projector to projector or plasma to LCD TV. Also, comparison should be made according to size of projection picture.

usually this happens pag hindi talaga maganda yung measurement between the pj and the screen, ika nga hindi siya eksakto, use the pj's keystone to adjust this and make it square or rectangular again. but in ht, it is best that no keystone adjustment has benn made to the image. so, placement preparation is really the key.
-

Just wondering what you guys would recommend as a best buy projector now for around P50,000 ? That would be available....

we're currently setting up 2 conference rooms so I need suggestions on projectors and speakers, I also need help with the cabling (vga and speaker wire) since they're very long. thanks please suggest models and where to buy.

Good day,
Mga sir ask lang po ako kung ano recommend nyo na projector for outdoor, well not really outdoor, we will be using it in a gym.

i think if its for business purposes rather than entertainment. try to get the panasonic data projectors. cosmotech sells them, our office got the model (for got the model number) that has built in wifi already, cost around 80k. so in essence, you really dont need any cable anymore since almost all laptops now have wifi. it can transmit up to 15 laptops images. but if you want long vga cables i think cosmotech sells them too.
as for speakers. i think if its for business type presentations, karaoke type speakers are way better than ht speakers. its cheaper and it does a so so job for transmitting audio but great if you will connect the pa system too when people may need mic to talk and present to a bigger audience. but if the conference room is small, our office just use a bose system, pricey yes, but the cube speakers are very easy to hide.
:)
-
We use different models of InFocus projectors at the office. Would suggest getting better cables though.
Good luck on the search. :)

TRY MITSUBISHI. I suggest you go for the 3,000 lumen MITSUBISHI XD490U which could managed well with a gym's dimension. It has the TI DARKCHIP 3 which is superb for cinema-grade resolution, a versatile native XGA resolution with DVI connector, a zoom function for up to a 150-inch screen, and at a price of not more than P105,000. This is the only XGA DLP projector I knew which has the Darkchip 3, as if its being geared for both home theater viewing and as a multimedia beamer for that extra lumens and giant zoom.
If you go for Epson or Infocus, you'll be tolerating the monopolistic, high-price policy of its Philippine distributors who doesn't care a whet if you buy or not because they hold the exclusive stocking. Their pricing is very questionable ethically because they could imposed as much as 45 percent of a profit margin to any one model - this means that a unit which costs anywhere in the world at an MSRP of around P68,000 could be sold by the local Infocus or Epson to as much as P140,000.
Call Charlie for Mitsubishi quote at his electrical cables shop at (02) 241-4008 or text him at #0917-532-6496. He's a Chinese supplier, from the independent market. Thanks for heeding suggestion.

tama. for the OP's application you should be looking more on multimedia/business projectors for that extra lumen output.

Great! Thanks for the reply guys laking tulong. Will try to call Cahrlie for more info about the product.
Salamat din sa heads up about other brands hehehe ;D
@Taurus_cute: thanks sa technical details about sa projector na dapat kong bilhin mwah! :D

Baket parang namatay na ang PJ threads? What's the best bang for buck 720p projector today? Nakakawalang gana kasi since a lot of PJ's got more expensive now than 2 years back?
-
Going around I found these to be the more affordable projectors to be had (All 720p):
For those in the know which ones would be of best value:
ACER H5360 HD 3D - 39,900
Optoma HD 75- around 55k?
Infocus in76 - 65k
Panasonic AX-200 - 58k
I know the AX200 is highly rated but is it worth 20k more over the newer Acer?

My Panasonic PT-AE900 has served me well over the years but has been acting up lately. What projectors for home theater use are good buys in today's market? 1080p would be nice but 720p is good enough if the price difference is substancial.
TIA
-
You can search for some reviews of this projector sir, ACER H5360 HD 3D - P39,900. Came from Panasonic PT-AE900 as well before owning this. Worth the price!
-
Thanks! Actually, I saw your post/review on the acer H5360 HD after I posted in this thread. I went so far as to do the projector screen size calculator. This would be my first choice except or one thing. I plan to put the projector 4 meters away (where the PT-AE900 is) from the screen but after doing the projector screen size computation at the Acer site, a 4 meter distance means a screen size of 111 inches. My screen can actually do 111 inches but from experience, the max I really want is 80 inches. Am I missing a trick or something that will let me buy the Acer H5360 or do I hae to look for another brand/model?
Thanks again for the help!
-
ah yan lang talaga ang problema, short throw w/ limited zoom ang H5360 so, you really have to relocate your mounting bracket nearer to the screen to achieve a smaller screen size. I, too have the same problem but will be adjusting the size of the screen instead.
You're welcome.
-
Sirs,
I'm a newbie here. I planned to buy a projector with the manual projector screen. I don't know much about projectors. I'll be using it for HT purposes. I only have a small room 4m x 4m and height is 3m max. What projector can you recomment. My budget is 25 to 40k. I really confused from all the brands that I saw in Megamall.
Please help naman po. Thanks

Due to hectic sched recently, I have not used my SANYO PLV-Z5 for a whole movie and just warming it for 5 mins once a week.
Last weekend when got time to watch a whole movie, my projector goes blank after 10-15 mins with 2 red light blinking. Definitely not a bulb problem bec when I restart picture is ok again but it keeps going blank after sometime.
Hope anyone can advise the fix. Thanks in advance.
-
It's likely a heat issue. I'm guessing the unit senses that the temperature is too high and subsequently shuts it down. Assuming you have it installed in a well ventilated area, try cleaning the vents/filters.
Hope this helps :)

I got it fixed yesterday but Im quite surprised with the solution. In the settings there is option for HIGHLANDS where you can set as ON/OFF. It is initially set as ON, then when set to OFF it went ok and manage to watch for 2 movies.
Now Im curious why the problem only surfaced recently.

How does a mitsu 3800 compare with a panny AE4000?
-
I am still in the market for my first PJ. I think I've narrowed my search to 4.
Epson 8350 - appears to be best bang for the buck, but at the bottom of Epson line. Am I missing a lot by going with this model?
Epson 8700 - almost twice the money as the 8350. Is it 2x better?
Panny AE4000 - still a good candidate, and now severe discounts can be had. Had things changed since last year?
JVC HD250 D-ILA - trickle down technology from a company that makes a lot more expensive models. good review everywhere. Is this the one?

Mitsubishi HC9000D Projector
Any inputs on this?

Hi everyone. :)
I am planning to buy a viewsonic or benQ DLP HD projectors. Since I cant afford the inFocus. Are they good enough? Need some advice. :)
-
TRY BENQ over the Viewsonic. If you're bent on home cinema, go for the BENQ 1200 DLP PROJECTOR. This is the most applauded 1080p DLP model on the current BenQ cinema projection lineup. Its supposed to challenged and contend against the formidable Mitsubishi HC4000 neck to neck, delivering a brighter, more razor-sharp picture. If you'll insist on an Infocus, remember that the home cinema-grade units has a local distribution thats monopolized by American Technologies Inc.'s sister company. This distributor corners the Infocus market and by virtue of that, won't have no qualms in imposing as much as a 40% markup. Thats why if you'll asks for the Screenplay models' pricing - madi-discourage ka because its outrageous.
Read first about the BenQ 1200, or consider also the Epson 8350. Then after you've evaluated the strengths and suitabilities to your home setup of these two models, you may try to contact Anya here and see if he could serve the one or the other.
-
Thanks a lot Alice! :)
I"m from the province (Cagayan De Oro City)..can you recommend a dealer/store the sells ben q? Thanks much! = ) . . . BTW I am also planning to buy that Bose lifestyle V35 (I know its also an outrageous brand) but I am just so impressed by its jewel cube speakers and the unify-intelligent-integration-system, basically the simplicity of its operation with its powerful speakers. can you recommend?
-
ALEXX: I hail from Cagayan De Oro too, a wonder of a town to raise a family and to live a conservative, quiet, saner life...but only during the 70s and the earlier decades. I'm unable to cite any BenQ outlet anywhere in the land who is "crazy" or knowledgeable enough to sell the BenQ 1200 (or the entry-level variaton 1100). Hence my wisdom for you is to ask Anya - a.k.a. Philip - here to order one for you from Amazon. This is the fastest and CHEAPEST route you could take on to be able to enjoy the magic of home cinema. Exploit the critically low dollar exchange rate right now (at around P42 to $1.00). As to the Bose, its distribution is monopolized by Eleksis Marketing, its a Chinoy-owned concern who - again - would have no qualms in imposing as much as 40% markup for all their product line, marketing the brand as a sort of a status symbol rather than a populist-oriented A/V name. Take note, and others more authoritative than me can lecture better on this - when you pay for a Bose, you're also paying premium on its "exclusivity." Hence you're bolstering Eleksis' outrageous pricing policy. Its akin to paying $150 for a Monster 1.3 HDMI cable when another cable of the same length and HDMI version costs a mere $25.
Concentrate on the IMAGE, the picture. Ideally, the biggest you could find and afford. Bringing home a front projector is a magical experience, no user I know has come to abandon giant-screen home cinema after they started on the path. There's nothing like it, nowhere. For me, sound/audio comes only second and to proceed to a Bose seemed an overkill, I feel you're being bambozzled by Bose's expensive, multi-media advertising campaign (ad spots on the Inquirer's Business section, periodic press releases on the major spreadsheets, etc.).

Before you decide, search mo muna baka may mga negative feedback sa napupusuan mo. hth ;)

Not best for HDTV viewing master. Meron degradation sa picture quality dahil lagi nya i-scale ang HD material to 16:9 hence, the native res. of 1024x768 / 4:3. But if you are going to use it for presentation purposes ok lang.

i see. thanks for the insights master luther. I've been shopping around for the best bang for the buck ht projector and it seems the choices are really limited in the sub 40k range. are there any other options out there thats also a top performer aside from acer h5360?

is it okay to purchase projectors abroad or better local purchase for warranty ? planning to get a 1080p projector (2D) and was looking at the Epson 8350 or local Panasonic / Mitsubishi units

It depends. Projectors can sometimes be 30-50% cheaper abroad and that makes it tempting. Obviously, the problem is the warranty. Kapag nasira, laki problem.
Lots of members have bought their projectors from www.hivizone.com (HK). Me too. ;D
Still, it's a risk.

saan ba makaka audtion ng hd projector dito sa manila?

Thanks!

Hello sirs/ma'am I need your expert advice, i am planning to put a projector inside my room for gaming and blu-ray movie viewing, the problem is.. my bedroom's limited with space, i have measured the distance of the possible location where the projector will be installed & its exactly 10ft. Now my question is what type of PJ do i get with good picture quality and what size of screen will be best for this distace? or is it even possible? thanks!

The new Acer K330 has quite a short throw. IIRC, 8 ft should get you 80", 10 ft is 100". Thing is, it's LED. It should be perfectly suitable for nighttime viewing and with little to no ambient light. Totally not suitable for daytime viewing unless you have blackout blinds/curtains to darken the room appropriately.
Short run down of the K330:
- 500 lumens. Perfect for nighttime viewing. Will require a room that's dark for daytime viewing.
- LED lamp = 20,000 hour lamp life, quick shutdown and start up, runs cool and without worry of overheating for extended use.
- WXGA (1280x800) native, but uses diamond pixels. Effective resolution is lower. But still very sharp.
- DLP = better blacks, sharper than LCD and LCos, smooth motion (plasma-ish), and has "DLP-pop" effect that makes colors very natural but extremely vibrant. You'll love this if you love plasmas. May affect people sensitive to RBE (rainbow effect).
- Small, about the size of a Nintendo Wii. Power supply is built-in.
- VESA-compliant mount supplement on the bottom side, which means a typical projector ceiling mount will fit this.
- Has HDMI, VGA, Composite, Video/Audio-In, Audio-Out, USB port.
- 35K Php SRP. Villman offers it at 35K with 0% interest @ 12 mos. and they'll even throw in a 70x70 inch screen and a laser presenter.
Other alternatives include the Optoma GT720 which is also short-throw, but it's not readily available in the Philippines.
Sample shot of the K330 (taken from AVSForum):

For comparison, here's a shot from my own Acer K11 (858x600 native, 200 lumens):

I am also looking for a PJ for the same use and I have limited space in my room. Approximately 12 feet viewing distance. I have tried Viewsonic's distance calculator and below projector will provide approximately 100 inch of viewing area at 12 feet distance. With regard to specs, it is also DLP and has 2000 lumens. I read the higher the lumens the better because you can still use it in a room even if it is not very dark. What I like about this as well is it already 1080p however my concern is Viewsonic is not that known for its projector products. It is about 35k when converted to peso similar to Acer K330 but lamp life is significantly lower compared to K330 as I believe the higher the lumens the shorter is the lamp life. At any rate, I just wanted to know your thoughts on this PJ.
Thanks in advance.

I'm also in the market for a new HT projector. My Benq W100 was just diagnosed to have a motherboard problem so I will just retire and replace it. Looking at the Optoma HD20 or Acer H5360 for my 90" screen. Any other recos? My budget is around P60K but looking at value for money (durability, after sales service aside for picture quality). For movie watching only and no gaming.

Or sa Amazon check mo Epson 3010 and Optoma HD33. Palagay ko your 60K will cover the shipping already ;)

I notice that a lot of PJ user here or at least wanting to use a projector never considered a pj with shift lens.
Short Throw is good for small spaces
Hi Definition is a must
HDMI Inputs at least 2
Minimum of 2000 lumens
Lamp Life of 3k above and
Shift Lens for me.
Big comfort having shift lens as a feature of your PJ. Makes aligning of the image to your drape hassle free (or at least lesser).
Good Luck everyone!
-
Sa Amazon purchase ba it is shipped to your doorstep? Hindi na dumadaan sa Philpost?
Nope, you have to have it shipped to a courier service that is based in the USA but ships to the Philippines as cargo/balikbayan box.
If you want it to be shipped by air. Use Johnny air cargo, if it's through sea, then you can try forex cargo.
Try to look at the buying online threads on how to avail of this services. Amazon ships directly to the Philippines items like DVD, bds, books and in some instances watches. But it will pass through philpost, if you use couriers like FedEx, it won't pass through philpost but you will still be assessed with taxes.

sa amazon, i waited for a while to get a new PJ, pero everytime you are about to buy, biglang umaakyat ang presyo grrr. have no idea bakit ganun

thanks gnew.
weird, the pjs are supposed to go down. pero mukhang malakas ang demand. tsk tsk. will just wait for the new models to come out.
im choosing between ar100u, 3010 and hd33.
-
thanks all. got a pre-loved Benq W500 720p projector c/o toys4geeks. beautiful pj with an equally great picture quality + lens shift. my gears are now connected to both my pj and 51" plasma via 4-way switcher and 2-way splitter. very happy!
-
I'm planning to buy Panny AE-7000 is it advisable to go for the newer AE-8000? From the review it's more on the perfection of the 3D image.
By the way, is there any supplier of PJ Screen with customize size and automatic na rin?TIA
-
thanks gnew.

mag 3D ka na. both the 3010 and hd33 are bright enough in a standard-sized room.
before i did not bother much about 3D after watching from my bro's 51" plasma. i get distracted by the surroundings around the tv viewing from a 11-ft distance.
now, with 120" of 3D image, i can sit close to the screen to simulate an IMAX size vision or move back to my regular seating position at 13 feet, w/ a little distraction around the screen ;D
-
if anyone is interested pwede tayo magpasok ng 3010, PM me just in time for Christmas ;)

Anyone using sanyo plv-z6?
-
Any good projectors under 25K ?
Target screen size is 6 feet across
-
I heard that in 2014, all projectors will no longer have the VGA connector which connects to older laptops. The current laptops have both VGA and HDMI. The new and upcoming laptops only have HDMI.
-
anyone here using Optoma hd21? so far this is the only available model that I can afford, though I'm into Panasonic brand but there's no available model lower than the ptae7000.
and 2d lang po ba yung Optoma hd21 and can't play 3d movies unlike Panasonic pta7000?
I'm just for 2d viewing only not that much interested on 3d viewing.
any reviews about Optoma hd21 or better yet I'll get Epson? which is better?
thanks in advance for reply.
-
what projector is better? The Optoma HD33 or Benq W1070?

My next upgrade from sanyo pl-z5 is either panasonic pt-ae8000 or epson tw8100.

If 3D without gaming its the Epson tw8200 / 5030...
If 3D with gaming its the Sony hw40es...
For 3D viewing alone, the Epson is better according to reviews.
Picture Quality wise the Sony and Epson beats Panasonic AE8000... Saw all this 3 PJs during the Hifi Show
Both are price at 120K to 140K locally ;)

Yup sis, medyo mas matimbang si Sony because of the lower input lag sa gaming.
Based from reviews online kasi very noticeabe daw ang input lag nang Epson sa gaming kahit may Game Mode cya...
-
3d with the Sony is quite good really , at the hifi show I tried the 3d demo of the LG , and the sony is comparable . I have not tried the epson though , but really I dont think I could watch 3d for a whole movie .
off topic I suddenly remembered this topic and wow 12 years ago na pala ang 1st projector ko ..(Page 1)

Mura yan bro, if for office or company used. BUT for individual or home used, its very expensive & not practical.

Decided to go for the Epson EH-TW7400 as I wanted 4K and 3D. Time to finally retire my trusty Hitachi TX-PJ200. Saying that, it’s gonna take some doing to beat the 2D produced by the Hitachi.
-
Have an EH-TW9400 on order. Should have it in about a week
-
My Epson EH-TW9400UB arrived this afternoon. It’s fooking huge. Lots of settings to go through. Watched a couple of episodes of Westworld on Sky in 1080p and out of the box the images looked amazing. A real light canon tho. Went to turn the brightness down and noticed I was already in ECO mode. 4K is gonna look awesome on this.
-
WOW! that is one awesome pj! hopefully it's not plagued with the dreaded power supple issue from other models.
Blue Planet II 4K would look pretty awesome on that baby, hope to see some pics.
-
I'm thinking of getting my first ever projector. Looking for short throw at least 1080P output, which will be for daily media viewing and gaming. Budget is 40-50k max. Of course the more affordable the better.
Please give your recommendations. TIA

Bought a 135” Silver Ticket Screen to go with my 9400 and it looks the business. Had 10 metres of Black self adhesive velour flock material delivered today. This will cover the walls and ceiling around the screen to kill reflected light. Also had 4 Atmos Ceiling Speakers installed and the sound is through the roof.
-
Where did you source out the TW9400UB sir? Local?
-
I am selling my Nierbo Max500 dlp mini projector with 70" silver screen material only, you have to framed it.

My review here in Pdvd.. http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php?topic=211139.0
This mini-projector is equipped with the active shutter 3D-imaging technique used by DLP cinema projectors. The 3D movie source that i've tested so far, is just coming from video streaming on this projector, and the result is GREAT! This mini-projector almost have it all. It has an ethernet port, wifi, bluetooth, auto keystone correction, usb2 and usb3 port, mira-cast, Hdmi/MHL, and full Android functions. SPDIF audio out not tested yet, but there is a Raw feature in audio settings for digital out. The audio output from the internal speaker of this pj is also good, but not great, but remember you can connect your bluetooth speaker anytime. Really bright projector, with fair contrast, good image color in general but it has an intense red color but you can adjust it in user's color settings. Since this is an Android projector it can handle my air mouse remote for convenient operation.
Anyone interested pls. pm me. :)
