Actually, it would be better to use it often, so that any flaws will be discovered during the warranty period.  Pag-naglapse na ang warranty, then hinay-hinay na... :)

All LCD had a rated lifetime, iba-iba but something like 50,000 hours.  Hindi naman 24/7 naka-bukas ang LCD, so it should last until your next upgrade cycle and then some...  Then again, the panel is just one component of the display.  So while the crt may last longer, in real world use, the difference would not be much...

i completely agree  ;) better to catch the problem while under warranty or else  :'(

been there, done that, make sure your warranty can be realised not just advertised (does it answer your first question)

but of course pray that you never need to use it   ;D

they say if its ok on the first year generally it will last its life, kaya dont worry, nothing on earth is sure except death and taxes sabi nga nila

I have a 17" widescreen Sony MFM-HT75W TV that I've been using almost everyday (for TV, DVD and even as screen for my computer). It'll be 2 years old by July of this year and so far I'm seeing no problem...

Please help us learn more about LCD TVs by giving us more details.

Does the buzzing or hissing come from the speakers?

Sometimes the source is the TV's speakers, sometimes it's from the backlight.  In foreign forums, I've encountered discussions about Aquos and Panasonic LCDs buzzing.

.. may hising sound na mahina ng parang livewire

kht i on meron padin....

U min kht on or of may hising padn?

Thanks for the quick reply.

We're sure that it's not the speakers.  Buzzing noise is common for Sharp Aquos and Panasonic LCD - the irritating buzz arises when the backlight is reduced, but stops when the backlight is brightest.

In your case, there's a buzz even on standby mode when the backlight is off.  It might be static noise from internal wiring or cables connected to the terminals.  Or it might be the transformer (I think it's a device that acts as a backlight dimmer) that buzzes even when the backlight is off.

Read a post from a U.K. site:

Sony Bravia KDL-26U2000 Buzzing Problem?
http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=452933 (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=452933)

In his case, Sony UK was not much help.  You might have to ask for a replacement TV.

Some forums say that a buzzing noise at the back of an LCD panel is normal --- it's just the backlight transformer.  The problem is that some transformers are just noisier than others.

How do you "easily" identify deadpixels?
Parang hirap kasi hanapin niyan eh -- you stare at your LCD and watch out for it.
OR there is a software used to check it -- sa mga PDAs kasi may sofware :)

Saka ano mas maganda gamitin na background black or blu to see deadpixels (kung stare method).

yung sa akin 1 month of use nagkaroon ng dead pixel, model sony bravia klv-32v300a, tinawag ko sa service center, they picked up the unit in my house then pinalitan ng bagong panel, after 1 week of use meron na naman dead pixel, i called sony again and they replaced it with a brand new unit.. then i purchased a 2 year extended warranty just in case a dead pixel shows up again after 1 year.. so far 2 weeks ko na gamit ngayon at ok naman no problems so far, i am using it excessively, i connected my laptop, ps2, dvd so that if ever may sira macocover agad ng warranty at if possible mapalitan uli ng bagong unit hehehe  :D  about the crt being more durable than LCD i have no idea since LCD's are just new unlike CRT which existed decades ago.

i think normal occurence lang yon even from other appliances, my laptop's charger also spark sometimes when i plug it.

Yes, it's due to it's having an autovolt transformer.

To avoid the spark, plug it to a 110v or utilize an adaptor with a switch when using 220v. ;)

Not clear about this. When you first plug into the outlet, it will be in standby mode. Then when you press the power button whether on the unit or on remote, mag power on na dapat sya.

Ang alam ko mga lcd at plasma TVs nowadays can last 60000 hours. Assuming na we watch tv around 8 hours a day multiplied by 365 = 2920. Then use this to divide 60000 hours, roughly 20.54 years. Not bad for an LCD.

Sa tingin ko naman in about 10 years suppressed na tong technology na to. Conservative pa yung 10 years. Newer models are saying na LCD can last up to 100000 or was it plasma  ???

Not really, only on dark scene. We've tried experimenting using strong power output (240-260volts) on lcd's na madaming dead pixel after a while nawawala. ;)

Hello, may I ask ano effect kung meron dead pixel? Kung marami na what will happen? Can you see them while watching videos? Thanks

ang effect ay annoying at nakakabuwisit lalo na kung bago pa lang LCD mo tapos may dead pixel agad, thousands ang worth tapos may defect.. you can see it clearly when you are close to the monitor.. at lagi mo na mapapansin lalo na kung alam mo kung saan lugar nandoon yung dead pixel kaya nakakabuwisit talaga. nakakaasar din pag naisip mo na non-repairable yun at palit panel ang solusyon pero ang worth nung panel ay para ka na din bumili ng bagong LCD tv.. kung cheap lang ang LCD tv mo e understandable yon kasi syempre pag cheap ay low end din ang parts pero kung branded gaya ng nangyari sa sony bravia ko e talagang nakakabuwisit!

These are the 3 factors for me sa pagkasira ng LCD TV:

1.) Factory defect (di maiiwasan minsan may problem tlga sa production)

2.) Environment (dapat tlga nasa naaangkop na kapaligiran ung TV mo like roper ventilation etc. or else mabilis tlga tong masisira.)

3.) Usage (lahat ng bagay may limit so dapat ganun din ang TV napapagod din yan  ;D)
