Title: Magnavision: Old Imported DVD9s at Php 199 (Extended to January 2008)
Post by: techdude on Oct 28, 2007 at 12:17 PM
Some older titles which used to sell for 333 (discounted from 895) are now going for 199!  These are imported DVDs.  Don't know if all video stores are priced like that but Astro and Odyssey Robinson Place are selling selected titles at that price.

Some good titles spotted:
Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade
Lemony Snicketts
Wallace and Grommit
Daylight
Spirit (animation)

Yes, this is Magnavision's sale until November 4.  P199 for all single discs, P299 for double discs, and 50% off on some titles.

50% din sa Da Vinci Code gift set.  50% off 2,300.  A chance for those who want the gift set to snag theirs!

A few titles like Zhang Yi Mou boxed set (Road Home, Not One Less, Riding alone...local DVD5/9) was also discounted 50% but regular price is 895 or 995 before discounting, they jacked up the price to 1,200.  50% off , so 600 na lang. ;)  still cheaper than before but not really 50% off.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised when I walked into Astrovision Shangrila and saw almost every old title - imported, local DVD9, local DVD5 - being sold for 199.

Bad, bad thing for an impulse buyer like me. I bought six more titles I really don't need... or even really want for my collection.  :-\

They will probably stay sealed unless you force yourself to watch it (para hindi sayang).  Given your huge collection, I reckon there's still quite a lot you haven't watched.

Lately, I stopped myself from buying titles I only half wanted even at sales.  The old titles I really want I probably have already bought (at previous sales ie 333, 50% off, etc).  But it really hard to resist the 199 pricing.  Next time, think of where you are going to stuff those discs and that might deter you from impulse buying. ;)

Those BBC Documentaries (WWII) I wanted...they are now 199.  But I keep resisting, baka in time 100 each na lang iyan, after all, they are locally minted DVDs, and given their total number (10 or more discs), the difference will be quite substantial... I reckon, hardly anyone touches those documentaries, so in six months, they will still be on the shelves.

Picked up some imported catalog releases, mostly for Php199:
Hard to believe that most of these titles started at the Php750 to Php895 range.

Ended up in Powerplant instead,

Was not able to get any titles as the wife and I were going to catch "Lions for Lambs".  That movie  is a potential center speaker workout  ;D. The "O" store is open but undergoing a renovation.   Saw a lot of titles ther with a 199P price tag.

Cheers!

is it true that the sale price of some DVDs depends on the branch's memo?

i went to podium to get a copy of the ultraviolet 2 disc and the saleslady said its 895 less 50%, while at MOA it is priced at 650 less 50%!

weird....di ba uniform naman pricing nila dapat?

anyway, i ended up getting my copy at megamall priced at 650 less 50%.

also, for those who has a copy of the 2 disc edition, can you guys confirm if both discs are DVD 5s? both feature film and extras disc.

thanks!

pol, i got Ultraviolet for P325 ( 50% of P650 ) at Podium.  i don't think it has changed till now.

the problem with some Sony releases is that it doesn't say whether its single or dual.  you have to look at the back of the disc and check those serial and code numbers but I don't know if that's reliable.  If there are two sets of serial numbers then it must be dvd9, otherwise its a single layer disc.

From the looks of it, Ultraviolet is dvd5.  Please correct me if I'm wrong guys as I'd really like to be mistaken!

Two bar codes on disc is dvd9.  Or pop it into your pc and Explorer will show you the space it occupied.  Anything over 4.4GB is DVD9.
