ISKO - ADVENTURES IN ANIMASIA comes to mind. A bit promising but....is this any better?

After countless TV teasers on 7, I gathered it's a fusion of Pocahontas and yes, Mulan. Not to mention, the obligatory talking animal pals.

While I commend Tony Tuviera for making history with this movie, I just wish the animators didn't make the characters look too Disneyfied. Plus I find it objectionable to find Allan K dubbing for an equally irritating animal sidekick.

oo nga masyadong kamukha nina mulan and pocahontas. and are those clothes authentic pinoy attire? sayang naman ang creativity ng pinoy...

saw a trailer of this one - looks like a ripoff of Mulan and Pocahontas.

There was one particular scene that really reminded me of Pocahontas - i think when she was by the river/falls singing.

it would have been great to have the first filipino animation contain ORIGINAL characters or at least stay away from Disney looking scenes/character.

This is sad! I totally agree that this local endeavor looks more like a DISNEY RIP-OFF :(! I just wish that the animation would be more original since some of the world's greatest animators are FILIPINOs.

urduja is a rip off.

the first pure "true" pinoy animated film that is scheduled to be released is DAYO... coming out Dec for the MMFF. I have the trailer, how can I let you guys see it? Where can I host a video file?

You can upload in Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/) then post the link here. Thanks!

Much as I want to support our native animation industry, I don't think I can take hearing Regine Velasquez and Allan K voice out cartoon characters for more than a minute.

as usual, we are ten years behind the market.  i doubt this will spark any real interest in these times of po and wall-e, which is real sad.  we could have come out with something totally all pinoy in terms of look and visuals instead of going the disney clone route. and yep, those choices for voice talents leave much to be desired.  is asia's slutbird always a shoo in for stuff like this?

Unfortunately there will be people who will be saying, "Ang galing talaga natin, mukhang Disney!"  ::)

Still, considering how much we drool and wet our panties over every Hollywood movie that comes down the pike - - -just look at the Film Section here where we have a diarrhea of threads on movies that haven't even been made yet , all those superhero sequels coming out in 2010 and beyond, jeez, gano'n ba tayo kababaw at  kaatat? wala bang ibang pelikulang pwedeng pagusapan?::) - - - maybe it's just basic marketing to emulate the American model, since most Pinoys don't seem to care about any other model (don't see too many threads on upcoming Japanese anime (and there are a lot and they've been finished) or any upcoming movies from anywhere else except Hollywood.

I will reserve judgment on whether it's a Disney ripoff.  But as long it's different enough and done with class, then I wouldn't mind this as a first effort.  After all, they might be thinking financially here and even Walt has to make a few of those 'mainstream' movies to finance his more ambitious projects..

Watch the full trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05wy0Mjl_t8) and notice how Pocahontas-y the story is.

There's even a line there that goes "ang mga cute na katulad namin ay may pakinabang din naman". WTF!

Good point. Quite unfortunate since, as mentioned above, I'm sure we have very talented animators.

Oh yes there are. Tons. Talented artists and  talented komikeros and talented animators and with very distinctive ,very Pinoy styles. But what's stopping producers from making an animated film based on,say, something by Gerry Alanguilan, for instance? The fact that most Pinoys march to whatever new Hollywood movie comes out frothing at the mouth with excitement but ignore Pinoy product as a blanket rule. They'd much rather sit around and wait for the Iron Man sequel in 2011 than be caught dead watching anything Pinoy.

It's funny how most of us detest Filipinos for aping Hollywood, when we revel in Hollywood aping Asia.

Not bad for a first effort.

A little too long (@1 hour 35-40 minutes), it could be shortened by a few scenes (especially at the beginning involving those pesky animal sidekicks) and around 15 minutes and it would have been much tighter and a much better film.

A few stereotypes are portrayed and were really uncalled for.  Animation is decent (ala 1990 Disney).

Speaking of Disney, the Hollywood influence is all over (Pocahontas, Little Mermaid, Tarzan, Lord of the Rings, Aladdin, etc).  Many characters seems miscast.  I don't like Regine in the title role, a few of the characters tries too hard to sound 'Chinese' and fails miserably.  Eddie Garcia, as usual, seems at ease with his fatherly role. Ruby Rodriguez does nails her lines.

The comedic moments fails miserably at the start, but gets better as the film wore on.

Overall, okay. 7 of 10.  Although if this not a first effort, I would have probably rated it lower...

Even Ariel pala managed to influence Urduja? Mr. Eddie Garcia is without a doubt a thespian so doing voice dubbing is just a walk in the park for him. Nice to hear that Ruby gets to do just justice for her role. I just can't forget that eons ago, she was supposed to star in her supposedly 'launching' movie as 'Dyesebilbil'. You heard it right.

I can't speak for others but I don't like it when they do this either.

True, oggs.  And revel might be too weak a word. We froth at the mouth mostly. And totally ignore the Asian movie that Hollywood stole from.

The soundtrack of Urduja with Regine in full regalia reminds me of Rama At Sita.

For me, the only thing wrong about Urduja aping Disney product is that Disney prioduct  - - - at least the 2-D stuff and only from Little Mermaid onward with a few minor exceptions along the way (kinda liked parts of  Atlantis)  - - -sucks bigtime.

But . . Dyesebilbil. Hehe. First time I heard of it. Has the makings of a camp classic, in the right hands.

How come this news article (http://www.starmometer.com/2008/07/03/wanted-tops-philippine-boxoffice/) says otherwise?

I saw the trailer and it seems to that the quality is just comparable to those that are usually released for TV viewing. The art itself lacks details that pales in comparison to those released for the theater by Disney.
