The yellow square Dude made it! Yay! ;D Great, WISEGUY made it, too. Mr. Spacey's Mel Profitt made this show all the more memorable. Double whammy for THE OFFICE huh! Once again, no raunchy series like MELROSE PLACE? ;D At least SATC Girls made it as well. No MURDER, SHE WROTE or even CHARLIE'S ANGELS? Old school like SESAME STREET well-deserved its spot on the TOP 100 as well as THE PRICE IS RIGHT. But where's JEOPARDY!? AMERICAN IDOL as one of the best TV shows of all time? Not quite.
-
Weird that they've put ABC's Wide World of Sports in there when it just shows highlights of different sporting events. I have to admit that the whole packaging and pacing of the show was exceptional.
I have soft spot for British TV series (which I think are consistently superior to US shows), so I think it is sacrilege that shows like The Avengers, Fawlty Towers and The Black Adder are not included.
Also, which Battlestar Galactica were they referring to? Hopefully, not the 70's series because if they did then they have criminally overlooked Space 1999.
-
Agree with indie about the lack of Brit shows specially the Diana Rigg Avengers but The Prisoner's there at least, so apart from the inclusion of Sex and the City (shouldn't this be on the Worst Shows of All Time list ?) and Survivor (American Idol is the only reality show that deserves a spot here I think) , a pretty good list. The exclusion of any of those terrible Aaron Spelling abominations (Charlie's Angels, Beverly Hills 90210,Melrose Place) is a grace note.
Michael Mann should be in there , I think, (Miami Vice, Crime Story, Starsky and Hutch) and at least one CSI but that's nitpicking.
The Wire and Deadwood are hands down and bar none the two best shows on TV in the last twenty years, Well, at least The Wire is. All five seasons of it. There's a reason every critic and their grandmother call it the best show on TV. Because it is.

I think there were too many HBO shows mentioned, and not enough older shows. Where's Bewitched, for one? The list is rather low on Sci-Fi (Stargate SG-1? Other Star Treks? Quantum Leap?), 70s cop/detective shows (Starsky & Hutch? Police Woman? Quincy M.E.? SWAT? Baretta? Cannon? Kojak? The Streets of San Francisco? Hawaii Five-O?), and there's an apparent David E. Kelley boycott (Picket Fences? L.A. Law? The Practice? Chicago Hope? Ally McBeal?). Also, I've never seen any episodes of them, but most of these Top TV show lists usually mention The Fugitive and Perry Mason. I'm not a big fan, but I'm surprised ER wasn't mentioned. And although I own a season of each, I'd never included Gilmore Girls (only pilot watched) and Felicity (partially watched) in a list of the 100 Best Shows of All-Time.

Yup. Came way before the Brosnan thingie,if memory serves. And before that there was MacMillan & Wife. ;)
-
If Mr. Hankey just copy-pasted the list from the site, I think they made a mistake:
Were they referring to The Late Show with David Letterman
or
Late Night with Conan O'Brian...?
ETA: My mistake! Letterman helmed Late Night pala before O'Brian. It's funny how none of the recent late night talk shows didn't make the list.

100 Best *American (and some British)* TV Shows?
Good question. Where is Little Britain? BBC tv show that is ROFL for the entire half hour it is aired. Used to air late Saturday nights on Star World, but you can view episodes on the BBC website.
