Is this new set of the restored Godfather films going to be available here in the Philippines? Any news about the price or release date?
Thanks!
-
No word yet.
Many from PinoyDVD purchased the R2 version of the set, which was in steelbook and a lot cheaper than the R1. Comments and quick reviews here: http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php?topic=77803.msg819863#msg819863

Malabo yata yan.
Sa Philippine R3, it's only Warner that regularly gives us new restorations.
-
You can never tell. Magnavision is very knowledgeable with these stuff, more than Warner (which rely on its Asia Pacific division) or Viva. Magnavision knows if it will sell, that's the reason it was pricing it's releases accordingly (ie price of Steelbooks, gift sets). My guess, is that they will but toward the end of the year unless they have minted a lot of the old Godfather trilogy sets...

OK thanks! I've never tried ordering sa Amazon UK before. Nagkaproblema ba kayo ba sa taxes (duties and etecetera) or anything when it was shipped out here sa atin (bukod sa problems I've read with the handling)?
-
Most of my online orders are from Amazon UK for two main reasons: First, their shipping is far more efficient than Amazon US for my particular address; and secondly, when they go on sale, their discs really hit bargain basement prices, much lower than sale prices at Amazon-US.
I've only had an issue with customs duties one time (in probably 100 or more orders with Amazon UK), and that was for a relatively large order.

Sir, for your Amazon UK orders, what carrier is used for delivery at your end?

I'm not sure I get your question, but they ship out the order via Royal Mail, I pick it up at the post office with the 35 peso standard fee, normally within 1-2 weeks of shipping.

REALLY! :o Like CDWOW? So are you telling me that you don't pay shipping at all?...Just the 35 pesos? :)
-
No, you DO pay for shipping, and the local Philippine post office holding fee of 35 pesos is what I was referring to.

I ordered last September 14 sa Amazon.co.uk.
Item dispatched the next day: Sept. 15.
Estimated date of delivery: Sept. 22
Package arrived at post office: Sept. 19
Package claimed: Sept. 22
So within 8 days nakuha ko na yung order ko. 5 days nga lang kung tutuusin kasi di ko agad kinuha nung 19 kahit may postal notice na.
Maayos naman ang condition ng item at as usual, P35 lang yung binayaran ko sa post office.
-

Sir Jp, when ordering from Amazon UK, do you indicate your direct delivery address here in the Philippines? :)
-
Not Jp71ph but yes.
Hope Magnavision might do something akin to their American Gangster Steelbook - ie R2 case with R3 discs. But the fact that this is Amazon UK exclusive might make that unlikely...

Thanks for the info Sir Techdude! ;D So I guess the only way to get this is to order it direct from Amazon UK. :(

whoa! thats cheap din pala. thanks for the info bro! ;)
-
Well yeah cheaper nga. Around P1800+ and babayaran total.

Meron bang nakabili nitong R3 set? P1500 nalang kasi sa mga DVD stores. I am wondering if same master ng mga R1 and maganda yung quality ng R3 version
-
Meron ako nung R3. I've already watched it, and mukha naman syang OK. Anamorphic widescreen sya, yung R1 is 2:35:1. Same number of discs. The Godfather 2 is divided into 2 discs, and you get a bonus disc.
-
yung R1 is 2:35:1.
No, it's not.
-
I don't think Magnavision has released The Coppola Restoration versions of Godfather.
-
In all Astrovision stores merong Godfather Trilogy Coppola sets nakasale P1500
-
No, it's not.
I just based this on the Amazon website.

I'll stand corrected then. Since I already have the steelbook r2, I didn't bother checking The Godfather sets on display, I just assumed they are the old sets they are discounting.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, those R3s being sold at Astrovision at P1500 may not be the Coppola restorations. They're the old versions but placed inside a cardboard slipcase/box with Coppola's "signature" on it.
I noticed this because I've been eyeing those sets for years now and the one's being sold at Astro look remarkably similar to the DVD cases of the old, non-Coppola restored set. Same DVDs, iba lang ang packaging.
And there's nothing to indicate outside of the box that it is the Coppola restoration. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong. It would really help if someone who has actually bought the set at Astrovision can list the features, especially on the bonus disc.
-
good you pointed that out, sana nga somebody can confirm this. In any case, I might have to order the bluray version instead para sigurado na hehe
-

Yup, that's a careless error on Amazon's part, since the films were all shot in a 1.85:1 ratio.
You know, what I've seen at Astrovision are copies of the trilogy in a box similar to the R1/R2 Coppola restoration (featuring the signature of Coppola) but without the words "The Coppola Restoration" printed under the film's title. This makes me think these sets contain just the old editions placed in a new box. I could be wrong, but owning both the original R3 boxed set and the R2 Coppola Restoration (as well as The Limited Edition Godfather Trilogy chronologically reedited LaserDisc), I'm not really willing to check out this "new" set. ;D
Edited to add: There, I see Dan & I have the same idea on this R3 set.

I'll stand ??? ... whatever. :)
Guess, until confirmed otherwise. Those buying the R3 should proceed with caution. Although you'd be doing the community a service by being able to check whether the R3 is indeed The Coppola Restoration.
Magnavision, are you reading this?
-
^ Personally, I've already made up my mind a couple of years ago to just order the R2 steelbook restoration version because I hear it's relatively cheaper/almost the same price to get than the local one -- which is under suspicion of just being the old set in the Coppola "signature" box.
I base it on one thing that I've noticed. Since the local R3 edition box has an open side where you can see the actual case spine of all 4 DVD cases you can already get what I'm driving at. They look exactly the same as the ones in another boxset from several years back. And as Mr. Hankey and I have said, there is nothing on the box or cases that say it's the "The Coppola Restoration".
I was so excited back then when I saw Coppola's golden signature on the box. But when I turned it over I immediately knew this was just a redesign of the plain old black design from all those years ago.
Then again, we should wait for someone who sacrificed thousands of pesos just to see if it really is the restored versions ;D
-
And the only way to really be sure is if that person owns both copies (original and Coppola Restoration), since as I pointed out on this post: http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php?topic=77803.msg819863#msg819863, it's really hard to tell which is the "restored" version unless comparing images side-by-side. ;)
-
Local variant is still the original version.
You can see it based on Godfather 2. The original version has 2 discs. The Coppola Restoration only has 1.
A. Original Version (5 Discs)
GF1 = 1
GF2 = 2
GF3 = 1
Bonus = 1
B. Coppola Restoration (5 Discs)
GF1 = 1
GF2 = 1
GF3 = 1
Bonus = 2
The one available in the market today is still Version A sporting the design similar to the Coppola Restoration.

Looks like you guys are correct. Decided on the Godfather Coppola set nalang, naka order na ako kay Oreoshake :)
