"
When this fan was ran on 5v, it wouldnt spin, so 12v was my only option.

Its no louder than an xbox 360, and is genuinely bringing the operating temperature down inside the Popcorn. One thing i will note is that even when the PCH is shut down using the "Power + Delete" option, the fan still runs inside it. So,the only way to make it stop, when you boot down the PCH, its going to have to be switched off the socket im afraid. To make it quieter, a resistor could maybe be put in place between the connections, but right now it doesnt bother me much."

(Note: Adding a resistor won't work as per the thread i've read. However check out the "Zalman Fanmate 2 Variable Speed Fan Controller" on my 3rd post down below. They say that it works!)

Well for those NMTs with fans but thinks that it's noisy, you might want to check this out:

my pch a100 cooling mod

using bigger fan = best cooling connected to 12v but noisy. cover plate is not fully closed when installed
(http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a165/weng2x/DSC09405_exposure.jpg)

using a smaller fan = average cooling (chip gets luke warm) but noise can be heard only at 1-2 ft away

My egreat fan seems quiet to my ears since I'm seated several meters away from my tv.  Aside from the silencing the noise, what are the other benefits of modifying or adding a fan?  Would it make the unit last longer?

i used a 30mm fan, para maisara ng maayos yung cover.

yung blue na naka tape sa hdd is a heat sensor.

the fan goes on / off / change speed depende sa temp.

it's also connected to a controller so you can adjust the temp range.

here is the link to the circuit:

maiinit talaga yung popcorn ko. pero yung manufacturer claims that this device are designed to handle such heat. gusto ko lang mangalikot kaya nilagyan ko ng fan. para safe na rin.

di ba meron ng fan yung egreat kya d masyado umiinit? i think that should be enough.

Nice modifications... kakabilib! ;D

Lalabas talaga creativity sa hobby na ito e no.. ;D

Just got my PCH-A110 last week.. so hindi ko pa masyado nagagamit todo-todo pero pansin ko madali nga siya uminit..

Question:  Is the temperature really hot when you use it straight for.. say 24 hours straight? Will the heat have a negative effect on the Hard Drive inside?

TIA ;D

Depende sa room temp. Pag naka on yung AC di naman umiint yung PCH ko even watching for 3-5 movies. Pag naka off yung AC umiinit din kahit nagddowload lang ng torrent.

Meron naman temperature tolerance yung hdd, depende lang sa manufacturers.
