Title: Customizing your NMT : A Visual Perspective
Post by: [joms] on Nov 07, 2008 at 10:43 AM
Hi guys! I just want to share what i have accomplished with my NMT so far.

1) Ive backed up almost all my original DVD/Blu-ray/HD discs as well as that of my dad and brother's.

2) I tried installing the "jukebox filing system" and after several tiring hours (make that days), i have finally finished my struggle and am very happy with the results.

My collection which is also what you will actually see when you hit the HARD DRIVE selection in your NMT's main screen can be viewed here: WWW.JOMS.NET (http://www.joms.net)

A couple of pics of my accomplishment:

If you wish to copy what i just did, then all instructions can be found at http://www.treasure-cove.net/moviejukebox.htm (http://www.treasure-cove.net/moviejukebox.htm).

The process is very tedious so if you are impatient then i don't recommend this for you.

I am using Egreat EG-M31B with 1.5TB Seagate Internal HD. I also have an external 1.5TB Hard Drive which i will soon transform to the jukebox filing method as well.

I believe this filing system can be done on the Egreat/Popcornhour and all the other NMTs as they all have the same software/etc.

Thanks  :)

Automated naman most of the process. Matagal lang yung pag download ng cover art. Even if you have a fast connecton (I am downloading at 2.4Mbps) no use pa din. Mabagal kasi sa side ng DVDEmpire. Isa isa yung authentication.

Questions:

1.  Can this be done on a PC?
2.  Approximately how long will it take to organize about 700?

uy kamusta na mga pre =)

Actually its easy lang if you follow the steps one by one. very detailed naman yung explanation. Wag lang kayong mag mamadali. Iba kasi excited so they tend to miss a step or two which screws up a lot of things in the end. If you will be doing this, set nyo na sa utak nyo that this will take some time and will need your utmost patience.

A tip that i could give is to watch a movie sa PC nyo while downloading yung mga cover art. I download it on batches of 5. Previously kasi i tried downloading by 20+ pero nag hang yung PC ko nung nasa dulo na so i had to repeat everything again.

The hard part here din kasi is that when you get the links sa cover art, you wont be able to preview it yet. You still need to click one by one yung link sa right box to view the cover art but it takes like around 20-30 secs for each link and once you click 1 link, the program wont let you do anything so maghihintay ka until matapos yung 1 preview download na yun..... and when you dont like the cover art, you click on another link to choose again.

Note: Some cover art that you will download will be small in size so when played, hindi sya ganun ka pino. I had to re-do those and choose another cover art.

Sample cover art selections:

1) spiderman full screen [DVD]
2) spiderman widescreen [DVD]
3) spiderman criterion collection
4) spiderman HD DVD
5) spiderman Blu-ray
6) spiderman 20th anniversary edition
7) spiderman etc etc

Each link to preview the cover art will freeze your program for around 20-30secs (depending on connection)

You can actually just choose without preview and blindly download the cover art (which is what i did at first) but:

Note: choosing all blu-ray/HD isnt always a good idea because some blu-ray cover art has a white thing on the upper left and right edges which would not look good on the jukebox (yung box kasi ng blu-ray/HD eh hindi square. May curve yung top and bottom part nya)

Note: choosing all DVD isn't automatically a good idea either as most cover art are only user submitted scans or picture taken photos of the dvd box which has lots of dirt and noise in the picture.

medyo mahal kung 6T for two slots. it's much cheaper to buy 2 external enclosures+hdd or 2 mybooks for instance.  there must be a cheaper solution.  i've heard of servers hosting 8 to 10 harddisk drives.  i'm not sure if this is cost-effective at the moment.

Drobo I think is about the same price as 4x1TB hard drives.    Less fancy ones can be had from around $150.   High speed SATA boxes with PCE interface eSATA card maybe around $200.

hehe yeah go 1.5TB na! although sa US forum sites, medyo buggy daw performance ng 1.5TB in raid setups so do some research din. Yung 2x na nasa akin so far ok naman.

Also, can someone check kung yung cdrking na docking station has an esata option? Yung sa rising sun kasi may esata out and esata cables na kasama....

How much is the comparative price per GB of a 1.5TB compared to 1TB out there?

1TB is still the sweetest spot in Tokyo because ang daming competing hard drive makers.

yup someone actually pmd me asking about the 1.5TB seagate and i told him that i've read numerous posts in different forums saying that the 1.5TB seagate has problems specially in raid setups wherein they dont get detected sometimes, the drive crashes, etc etc. Some say that they are weak when used on video such that choppy yung video when you play it using the 1.5TB seagate. Even in amazon, 3 stars lang sya.

personally though, i havent had problems with both my internal and external 1.5TB drive. Ive watched several movies, both 720p and 1080p, in my computer using my external 1.5TB seagate connected sometimes via USB and sometimes via esata. I even copy 8GB movies from my internal drive to my external 1.5TB while watching a movie located in the external 1.5TB without any problems. Siguro i just got lucky with the drive that i got....

@joms/any other who can answer

hi just want to ask.  i have the pch-a100 and i tried the my li'l movie jukebox, but after doing all that, my external dvdrom won't play any dvds anymore.

before the my li'l movie jukebox installation, if i put a dvd in the external dvdrom drive, it will just autoplay, now it doesn't.

any ideas?

I got two of the 1.5TB Seagate SATA drives and I presume that the problem is related to the operating heat it generates.

I have not personally encountered the described problems, partly because I put both 1.5TB into a NexStar Vantec dual bay enclosure with active fan which I think is sufficient enough in cooling it down during actual play with my NMT.

To-date, a 1.5TB is about Php 8.5k based on promo price (I think non-promo price is about Php 9k plus)
On the other hand, a 1TB nowadays can just fetch about Php 5.5k

On a per GB basis (not yet formatted basis), approximately something like 1.5TB @ Php 5.66 per 1GB and 1TB @ Php 5.50 per 1GB.

Be careful when buying this product.  I just came from CDR-King Megamall Cyberzone.  The dock they're selling is USB 2.0 only.  No eSATA connector at the back.  Same price P990.

Or is the CDR-King dock USB2 only talaga?  Has anyone bought from CDR-King na meron eSATA connector at the rear?

We have a Thread on this, here's the link;http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=88161.0 (http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=88161.0)

And yes, it's USB 2.0 only and for SATA 1, but SATA 2 compatible(You'll get regular SATA 1 and USB 2.0 transfer rate.

The rising sun version has eSATA but costs 1.4K.

Still a good buy and once the eSATA version lowers it's price, it won;t hurt to have 2. ;)

Fully agree with Alfie... the CDRKing version only offers USB2.0 connection (but NO eSATA) for a SATA HD dock for 2.5" and 3.5" form factors.

On the other hand, the RSUN (RisingSun Computer Shop) version has both USB2.0 and eSATA connections for both 2.5" and 3.5" form factor SATA drives.

Any other PDVDer who has used the video jukeboxes? Will try to set-up also.  Which is the best jukebox to use?

almost done with our jukebox, finishing touches na lang.  i followed the instructions from the link in the first few posts - http://www.treasure-cove.net/moviejukebox.htm.  thanks joms!

i used movie posters instead of cover art and set the preferences to display fewer but larger images per page.  took extra hours to complete the collections/boxed sets and tv series pages.

here are some pics:

4-6 hours a day siguro, that includes searching for/downloading all the images.  had to do it manually kasi i opted not to use cover art.  i played around with the export settings din kasi kaya tumagal.

By the way hows the navigation, hindi ba mabagal? meron ba facility to quick search for the movie? yung hindi na dadaan sa category? tipong search by name na lang

i wasn't able to post a photo of the home page but it does include links based on the first letter of the movie title so you can use that for searching too.

di naman mabagal but it takes an extra click/screen before the movie is played kasi when you click on the cover art it goes to the movie details page where the play button is.  unlike sa normal nmt menu na pagclick mo on the file name play na sya agad.

Hi Pietra, I just want to ask how you indicated the movie title under the movie poster in your movie jukebox? Also, how did you put the harry potter series under collection? thanks

You can find the instructions for creating tv series and collections under the Appendix 7 Revision 6 Changes link in the tutorial site.

The option for displaying the titles is in the Index Settings tab of the export program.

I do not have any internal hard drive in the NMT, the guide only has instructions for those with internal HDs.  How, and where to put the index anf html files in the PC? Thanks.

If you want an easier way to customize your NMT, try Yet Another MovieJukebox. http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/ (http://code.google.com/p/moviejukebox/)  It's easier to use compared to My Lil Jukebox.  I've tried both.

I don't think you need an internal HDD as far as I remember with Lil Jukebox (not so sure now).  For YAMJ, I just save the index in my PC. To access it, I have to go to directory where it is kept.
