Title: TV Series 2010 cancellation list
Post by: SiCkBoY on Nov 23, 2008 at 07:33 AM
Due to the recent cancellation of Pushing Daisies, let's start a thread that updates all the cancellation rumors and news.

Quote
ABC has elected not to order more episodes for sophomore series “Pushing Daisies,” “Eli Stone” and “Dirty Sexy Money.” "Stone" and "Dirty" will cease production after 13 second-season installments. "Daisies" finished shooting its 13th and final episode last week.

Producers of all three shows were informed this afternoon.

All three just hit or matched personal ratings lows.

The network is not using the word “cancelled” for any of the shows, but does not currently anticipate a pick-up down the road.

and more...

Quote
The CW is dumping all of its MRC Sunday-night shows, including “In Harm’s Way,” “Valentine” and “Easy Money,” in favor of old movies and repeats of “Jericho” and “The Drew Carey Show.”

The decision was detailed in a Thursday memo from CW COO John Maatta to affiliates:

“As you know, to focus our efforts on the earlier part of the week, we entered into a time buy agreement with an outside supplier to program Sunday night. While this move has clearly paid dividends for the overall schedule, the results on Sunday night have been below expectations. The MRC shows are simply not working. To that end, we have made a business and programming decision to protect our network and your local interests on Sunday for the remainder of the season.”

They're now saying Lipstick Jungle just may not be canceled.

(I'm wondering why my spell-check now tells me canceled has only one L, when I'm pretty sure cancelled is also correct - I've been using it for years.

(I'm wondering why my spell-check now tells me canceled has only one L, when I'm pretty sure cancelled is also correct - I've been using it for years.

When the last syllable of a word ends in a consonant and is not accented, the final consonant is not supposed to be doubled when adding ed or ing or whatever else we add.

However, the Brits dont care.   :)

NBC Towing KNIGHT RIDER To Talking-Car Scrapyard??

Quote
NBC has reduced its episode order for “Knight Rider” from 22 to 17; its first season will conclude Feb. 25, the network announced Wednesday.

James Hibberd at The Hollywood Reporter explains the show’s status:

This episode reduction likely spells the beginning of the end of the show, since "Rider" ratings have been abysmal. Unless there's marked improvement between now and the finale, it's tough to see NBC paying to bring back "Rider" next fall. Still, as with "Lipstick Jungle" -- which the network has not ordered new episodes for, but has also not pulled from its lineup -- NBC sources say they do not consider the show canceled.

NBC picked up "Rider" for a full season in late October, relatively early in the show's run. Though modestly rated, the numbers had seemed to level off. After the pickup, "Rider" declined -- and kept declining -- with the most recent episode watched by 5.2 million viewers and earning a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49.

It's only now that I realized that I've only seen three episodes of The Ex-List.

Quote
CBS has canceled The Ex List.

This Friday's show will be the end of the run. The four remaining shows in the can may be run off some time in the future, but more than likely they won't. For the immediate future, reruns of NCIS will fill the Friday 9 p.m. slot.

The Ex List is the first hour-long drama to be dumped this season. It's a sad commentary on CBS that they are so challenged when it comes to developing TV dramas that don't involve criminal activities.

I agree. I found it uneven in the First Season, with excellent episodes mixed with colossal duds, but I felt the show hit its stride in Season 2. I hope they air those last three episodes, though.

I hope they air (the) last three episodes (of Raising the Bar), though.

I'm glad they did air. Very engaging, among the best the show had. There was quite a lot of closure to most plot points, I guess they figured there was a chance they'd be canceled.

What a waste. I guess Americans prefer their legal shows more black & white, the various shades of gray this show presented didn't result in enough viewers.

Title: TV Series 2010 cancellation list
Post by: Mouldingo on May 07, 2010 at 09:44 AM
Is your favorite show in danger?

The new fall TV season means plenty of promising new shows — and canceling struggling old ones to make room. As the networks roll out new programs this month at their upfront presentations to advertisers, here's our list of 13 at-risk shows. Many have posted significant ratings declines. Others are expensive to produce, getting old, or just aren't performing as well as their time-slot rivals. Read about the issues each faces and then weigh in on which shows deserve to stay — or go.

Caprica (Fridays at 9/8c, Syfy)

Issues: The heir apparent to Battlestar Galactica hasn't performed at nearly the same level, averaging just 1.1 million viewers over its first nine episodes. (The second half of its first season will air some time later this year). More bad news: Stargate Universe: SGU, its closest relative at the network in subject matter and ratings, has already been renewed for a second season.

Cold Case (Sundays at 10/9c, CBS)

Issues: Although the show pulls in a fairly steady average of 10 million viewers each week, it consistently underperforms in the desirable 18-to-49-year-olds demo. High production costs and the fact that CBS almost canceled it last year make another renewal unlikely.

FlashForward (Thursdays at 8/7c, ABC)

Issues: The show's intriguing concept has failed to deliver much in the way of genuine revelation, which may account for the show's plummeting ratings. Its most recent episode only attracted 5.1 million viewers. The producers' room has a revolving door on it lately, a sign that the show might not be around much longer.

Heroes (Mondays at 9/8c, NBC)

Issues: Season 4 saw this one-time ratings powerhouse hit new lows nearly every week, averaging between 4 million and 5 million viewers an episode. The show is a moneymaker on DVD and in international markets, however, so there's buzz about a truncated fifth season to close the series out.

Human Target (Wednesdays, 8/7c, Fox)

Issues: Male viewers haven't flocked to this graphic novel-based action series in the numbers Fox hoped for, but the show is still winning its time slot, albeit one of the week's least competitive.

Life Unexpected (Mondays at 8/7c, CW)

Issues: Critics love the show, but viewers are more lukewarm. The CW has announced several early renewals (90210, Gossip Girl, Smallville, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries), but the list conspicuously did not include this midseason addition.

Medium (Fridays at 9/8c, CBS)

Issues: The former NBC drama has been a nice fit in CBS' Friday lineup and consistently wins its timeslot, but after six years, Medium has become pretty expensive. It's not in as dire a position as Cold Case, however, and its survival will likely depend on the strength of CBS' development slate.

Melrose Place (Wednesdays at 9/8c, CW)

Issues: The network ordered up a creative change in direction in the fall that included casting changes, a new showrunner and more Heather Locklear. Thus far, the ratings haven't improved, and it was also left off CW's early-renewals list. Jessica Lucas recently signed on to the NBC pilot Friends with Benefits, which certainly isn't a good sign.

Mercy (Wednesdays at 8/7c, NBC)

Issues: Though it does well with a female demo, it's not a young female demo. Its last new episode attracted 5.5 million viewers, which wasn't enough to win its time slot. A three-week hiatus this month may have hurt its momentum.

Numb3rs (Fridays at 10/9c, CBS)

Issues:  The show's episode order was chopped drastically to make way for newcomer Miami Medical. Creatively, the show's season finale felt like a good-bye, and series star David Krumholtz has already landed a gig in Ron Howard's IRS comedy pilot at Fox.

One Tree Hill (Mondays at 8/7c, CW)

Issues: After losing a chunk of its cast this season, the series is showing serious signs of age. However, its average audience of 2.3 million viewers is more devoted than those of other CW shows (including Melrose Place and 90210.)

Trauma (Mondays at 9/8c, NBC)

Issues: This expensive, action-heavy drama has kind of already been canceled once. In October, NBC announced that it would not be ordering any new episodes past the original 13. When the network's late-night schedule imploded, Jay Leno's departure from prime time freed up real estate, and NBC ordered seven more episodes. With its ratings on the decline this spring after a three-month hiatus, the order was cut back to 18; the final episode aired April 26. And that's probably final.

V (Tuesdays at 10/9c, ABC)

Issues: The show's Olympics-mandated hiatus seems to have hurt its momentum. Though critics like the show's new episodes, it's getting killed by The Good Wife in its timeslot. Lately, NBC's Parenthood is beating it as well.

Well, I really believed that Tim Kring and Jeph Loeb ran out of ideas. Also, regardless of whatever denials they issued, they stole the concept from JMS's Rising Stars. Tim Kring should just have hired JMS to replace Jeph Loeb when he fired him from Heroes. Jeph Loeb is considered as the worse writer in comic books nowadays. In my opinion, Chris Claremont and Jeph Loeb are tied for that award.

Second (dis)honor - My Generation on ABC.

Yanked after 2 weeks of airing (2 episodes).

Bummed for Lone Star.  :'( It had so much potential. Couldn't understand My Generation, on the other hand. I don't know what kind of a series it wants to become. :P Didn't even finish the pilot episode.

Oh, you liked it? Parang bitin for me kasi. And I just find it strange that the two other members of the team -- Grace Park and that dude from Lost -- are supposedly Hawaiian natives but they don't even have Hawaiian accents. Yet all of the other people they talk to have the accent. I know, I'm nitpicking. :)

I'll check out the second episode and see if I warm up to it. Most entertaining show for me this season is The Event. ;D

Haven't seen Chase and Undercovers yet though.

Wait, Grace Park was in a bikini when introduced, then was forced to strip down to her underwear later, and what you noticed was... her ACCENT?

Hmm... seems your sex life is even better than you claim.  :P

Similarly, The Event was my biggest disappointment of the season! But here's the thing: it was my most anticipated show, so in the end, I felt it came up short. I watched Five-O, on the other hand, with the barest of expectations... just wanted to get nostalgic about the old series. So I was impressed that it was anything BUT a remake of that one, and quite entertaining.

Ah ok. Got it. I had similar low expectations for Nikita, which was the reason why I was pleasantly surprised when the series didn't revisit the "origin" story but propagated it instead.

LOL! Grace Park doesn't really do it for me. Maggie Q, on the other hand, brrrr--DOING!  ;D

Had little expectations for Hawaii 5-0 as well....and then enjoyed it so much! ;D Haven't seen the latest of The Event yet but I do think the first episode's cool. A bit worried they'll drag the mysteries, but I read a spoiler headline that there was at least an answer for episode 2. Ayoko na maloko utak ko like with Lost.

My Generation --- siguro kasi it's not...realistic? Could not relate to the characters, even when all of us should (reunions, seeing old classmates, what happened to this classmate and that). Basta ang labo ng concept.

I've got a feeling next one out is The Whole Truth, just basing on ratings, ang baba pa rin eh. And I  also really like this one. :(

ETA: I am looking for the LIKE button!!!  ;D

What's the big deal about Hawaiian accents?  Remember Hawaii is a melting pot of cultures - you've got whites, Pacific Islanders, Asians (different flavours pa!!!)

Remember that Alex "Steve McGarrett" O'Loughlin is an Australian, but he has a passable Neutral American accent (which should make for pretty interesting exchanges with fellow vegemite-eater Claire Van der Boom, who plays Joisey-expat Danny Williamson's veddy British ex-wife - no "Snooki"-types guidettes for Danno).

The native flavour is even more pronounced in the remake than in the original...IMHO,  Hawaii Five-0 has become like the Aloha-State version of Bad Boys
